Margot is a romance writer who is met with a disgruntled audience due to the release of some personal writing regarding her opinion on Happily Ever Afters. In order to escape from the situation, bad publicity, and stress; her sister Savannah convinces Margo to go to Alaska for some R&R. Upon arriving, Margot immediately meets Forrest, in a trope-worthy meet cute…except Forrest has a surly attitude.
And the R&R Margot expects to enjoy while writing her newest mystery novel turns out to be impossible, as she’s landed at an adventure lodge. Margot must prove herself with weekly excursions in order to receive information from her sister. Of course, during these excursions, trope after trope occurs with Forrest, the incredibly attractive son of the lodge owner.
My first book by Victoria Lavine, and I will definitely pick up her next book. Her characters were fun to read and easy to attach to. Her description of Alaska, particularly the lodge, played a huge part in the book and my enjoyment of it.
While I do feel some of her characters stories were not smooth introductions and integrations, things became smoother as the book continued. As I said, her depiction of the Alaskan wilderness and lodge, made me feel like I was there. I could smell the trees, picture myself in the cabins, and the sauna…oh the sauna.
Overall, this was a cute little book for those who love rom-coms. Thank you Atria Books for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
I will be the first to say that I HATED the beginning of this book. The idea that a romance author can’t have her own beliefs on love and a private file on HER stories is wild. I did not think it was realistic at all that she was immediately cancelled by her ENTIRE fanbase. I did almost DNF’d it at around 20% but I held on hope and I am glad I did.
I liked the overall development of ALL of the main characters throughout the book and how they overcame their fears. I loved that the FMC and the MMC both shared a lot of the same struggles with their family members and having to uproot their lives to care for someone else. I think without this part, the relationship between them would have been very surface level.
HOWEVER I didn’t really love Margot. In the beginning she felt like an entitled brat who expected too much. She didn’t really even treat Forrest good until she got to know him better. One thing that really bothered me was how she had to pick out everytime a trope happened to her - I found this super annoying and kind of took away from the story for me. Forrest also had his issues and while he was good at validating Margot, he struggled to see his own flaws.
This was a cute read. It felt very hallmark-ish!!!! I would recommend this book to friends for sure. It is a bit sad at times but overall, a very good read.
I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was such a fun read! I really enjoyed the chemistry between our love interests, and Alaska was a great backdrop for the story. Pick it up!
Basically, Book Lovers in Alaska (but not as good):
-Self-sacrificing cynical older sister (MC)
-Meddling younger sister plans a getaway for her big sis
-Love interest has lived near MC but returned to his home to help out after a health scare with his father
-MC is working hard on a book, parking herself at the love interest’s workplace because it’s the only place she can get the internet.

I didn't particularly like the main characters and found myself wrinkling my nose a lot during their interactions. Also it’s kinda weird Margot's so determined to complete her weekly mission for **that reward** (trying to be vague here to avoid spoilers). You wouldn’t catch me **doing those things** just for **that reward**.
Overall, it was fine. 3⭐️
Nothing new here! In fact, that is the premise of this charming book by Victoria Lavine. Margot is a romance author who’s been cancelled by her fans. Her sister sends her off to a remote “resort” in Alaska for 6 weeks to get her writing mojo back. Once there, she’s thrown into every clichéd romance trope you can imagine with handsome Dr. Forrest.
This is a sweet, quick read that will have you longing to book a snowy retreat in search of your own HEA.
Thank you NetGalley and Atria Books for this complimentary ARC. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I really enjoyed the premise of this and the first half of the book. The second half dragged a bit for me, and the characters got a little melodramatic for my liking. However, I was still charmed by Margot and Forrest and would recommend to people interested in romance novels in a fun location. Thanks so much to netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy!
I really enjoyed this! It was such a weird meta-premise, the ironic romance author cringing her way through every cliche and trope in romance lit, but it worked! Loved that the author was able to get some very real caregiver burnout/heartbreak without making the book too heavy or making the disabilities into yet another trope. Loved Margot and Forrest, loved the witty banter, loved this author’s writing style. Can’t wait to see what she puts out next!
Are you Looking for an adorable winter escape from everyday life book? Do you live books about grumpy MMCs who try to resist the charms of the Sunshine, sparkly FMC set in yhe snowy setting of Alaska? If so, pick this book up immediately.
I thought the FMC, Margot was charming and had a effervescent personality that eventually melted the MMCs, Forrest's frozen heart💙 .
This book had the following tropes that I loved:
💙 Enemies to Lovers
💙 Grumpy/ Sunshine
💙 Forced Proximity
💙 Vacation or Getaway Romance
Margot is a romance Author who has her reputation sink when her latest novel is leaked before publishing. Her sister Savannah who she takes care of arranges for her to go to a resort in Alaska to getaway from LA and the stress and write her new crime thriller. She falls into the arms of the owners son, who is a Doctor also from LA who let the hustle and bustle of the city to take care of his father. Forrest does his best to resist Marhot's flirting and charms but slowly his heart thaws.
Will Margot and Forrest have their happily ever after or is their romance fot just anotherctrope is Margot's romance novels?
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this arc!!
What a good book! I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I loved the main characters! They had great chemistry and worked so well together. I loved how the book just flowed. My first by this author but will not be my last!! I love a good Christmas book!!
Thank you Netgalley and Atria Books for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Margot is a romance author who gets “cancelled” when it’s leaked that she doesn’t believe in the love or happy endings she often writes about. It’s a fun concept that was really cute to read through. There’s SO many tropes, as the name suggests. But they’re adorable, giving you that blushing x kicking feet feeling. It’s a great slow burn full of humour, growth and complications. Right when you think things are going great, a wrench is thrown into it.
This was well written with a well developed story and characters. I can’t wait for the world to get their hands on it and fall in love!
I thought this book was absolutely adorable. Any Trope But You follows the journey of Margot, a famous romance author who is suddenly thrust into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. When it is revealed that she doesn’t believe in happily-ever-afters, she escapes her very public downfall to a remote resort in Alaska. There, she meets Forrest, and soon finds herself living out the many tropes she once wrote about. The book is filled with witty banter, heartwarming moments, and plenty of laughs. Plus, there’s an adorable moose named Periwinkle who gives us the perfect meet cute.
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC.
This was a cute book. I wasn't entirely sure where it was going to go, I thought maybe Margot would find herself in one of her books, but that's mostly because of other books I've read lately where people are going into the worlds of books or TV shows. Once I realized she was not in one of her books, I was able to get into it more. I think it's a good romance, and Forrest was fun to read about. I liked that there wasn't a huge miscommunication like there sometimes is in romance. Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for this ARC!
This debut novel is one you won’t want to miss come April. With its unique and fun premise, I genuinely couldn’t put it down!
Meet Margot, a jaded romance writer who’s lost faith in happily-ever-afters. After a broken engagement, a career blunder, an absent father, and years spent caring for her chronically ill sister, she’s in desperate need of a reset. Her sister sends her to the Alaskan wilderness, hoping a fresh start will help Margot rediscover herself.
In the wild, Margot meets rugged mountain man Forrest and finds herself living out every romance trope she’s ever written about: enemies to lovers, forced proximity, a sweet meet-cute, only one tent, and tender moments where he takes care of her.
This book is packed with heart, humor, and adventure—resulting in a truly delightful and unforgettable read!
I loved this romcom! Romance author Margot Bradley finds herself, at the behest of her best-friend and sister Savannah, reinventing, or aka discovering herself for the first time, on a wild Alaskan trip. This happens because she is horrifingly embarrassed and basically black-balled by everyone in the publishing industry, including her loyal readers. The thing is, Margot doesn't know anything but taking care of her ill sister; life has pulled the rug out from under her multiple times and she has stopped living for herself. Her sister for one doesn't want that for her anymore.
Forrest, the quarterback built, handsome lumberjack she meets on her arrival in Alaska is in a similar boat. He has left his promising medical career to take care of his invalid father and their family business, North Star Lodge. But is it what his father wants for him as well? Forrest yearns for his old life in L.A., but he will not lose time with another parent by living for himself or getting involved in distractions.
These are two people who will do anything, and I mean anything, for their family. They totally get one another. And that is why they are a perfect pair; and don't forget the chemistry! Their first meeting is so adorable it had me chuckling. Margot cannot believe the trope after trope she goes through with him, but I will not list them all, because. spoilers. You need to read this for yourself. If you love a good romcom, this one is for you!
In addition, the letters that Savannah sends to the lodge for a reward each time Margot completes a wilderness excursion are priceless and provide great insight into how Margot became the Margot she is today. If I am right, you will find yourself rooting for this couple's HEA and want to hold both of them in your heart for a long time to come! I happily await another story by this author. :)
**Thank you to Atria Books and the author through netgalley for reaching out with a DRC in exchange for my honest review**
Be safe, but not too safe.
ANY TROPE BUT YOU is a steamy romcom with an adorable meet cute that is set in Alaska. It was a cute read full of fun tropes like enemies to lovers and one tent 😉 One thing that bothered me is the overuse of the term “sweetheart” and I felt like the MMC was almost too perfect. All in all it was a cute read that would be good for winter cuddled up on the couch with a spiked hot chocolate ❄️
Thank you Atria Books and Netgalley for the arc ☺️
This book was the perfect romantic read. I fell in with with Forrest just as hard and fast as Margot did. As an author who also sometimes questions if love is real I could also relate to Margot's plight. I couldn't put this book down.
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book.
Great concept that didn't work mainly due to the awful FMC, Margot. I couldn't stand her and had no idea why the MMC, Forrest, was so infatuated with her. My favorite characters were Forrest's dad, Trapper, and the dog. The story didn't keep my interest (again, mainly due to Margot) and took me forever to finish. Why in the world did Forrest allow Margot to join in the wilderness adventures when she had zero ability to keep up with the group? Their first trek was rock climbing - really?? And he ended up carrying her for HOURS to get back to the lodge? I was already rolling my eyes. Should have DNF'd at that point. Too many ridiculous scenarios for me.
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC. This story was such a fun read. I was captivated the entire story. It was witty and entertaining. I loved how this story told the story of a romance author who gets cancelled when a document is leaked that shows she herself doesn’t believe in the HEA’s she creates in her stories. The Alaskan setting of this book was SO good! I want to visit!!! Forrest and Margot, I am so happy you both got the HEA you both deserved! I can’t wait to read more books by this author in the future!
4 stars! ⭐️ Romance girlies, this is for you! I loved it. FYI - it does get spicy!
