I adored this book! The banter between the main characters had me kicking my feet and chuckling the whole book. The only thing I struggled with was some of the pacing. Some sections couldโ€™ve been longer (the ending, excursions, etc) and other sections couldโ€™ve been shaved down. Overall I really enjoyed this book!

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

My favorite ARC Iโ€™ve read in a LONG time + the easiest 5 ๐ŸŒŸ

Thank you to @atriabooks for this E ARC in exchange for my honest review.

๐ŸŒŸ: 5 stars easy! At first, I hadnโ€™t planned on reading this book because my child and the FMC share a name, but I am so glad I did! Margot, a famous romance author is going through a rocky divorce so she writes secret alternate endings to all her romance novels. This file gets leaked in a huge, public scandal. Her sister decides to send her to Alaska so she can write in a new genre. Once there, she meets Forrest, who is back in Alaska caring for his father.

If you are a fan of It Happened One Summer or Beach Reads go ahead and preorder this asap. This book is hilarious, romantic, and emotional all at the same time. Margot + Forrest both have things to work on, but watching them come together was nothing short of magical.

โ€œwhat I didnโ€™t understand about Happily Ever After is that there are some people who come into your lifeโ€”even for just a momentโ€”who have the power to fundamentally change you forever. Theyโ€™re the people who see right through all your masks, and all your bullshit, and love you anyway. And not just despite all your wounds but because of them too. Youโ€™re safe in their hands for as long as you can hold on to each other, but even when itโ€™s time to part ways, you leave knowing youโ€™ve been truly seen.โ€

This is such a good debut book. This book had so many different tropes in it, but the fact that that was part of the joke made it feel less like throwing things at the wall and seeing what stuck. This was also SO funny. I was actually laughing at so many of the lines in this book. I cannot wait to read more from this author in the future.

Thank you to Atria and Netgalley for the advanced copy of this book!

This is a romance novel making fun of romance novels and it pulls that off perfectly. *chefโ€™s kiss*

I especially enjoyed the setting of the FMC city girl Margot being at a remote Alaskan lodge. But Iโ€™m still wondering where her tent wentโ€ฆ

Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for an ARC of this book! This is my honest review.

I loved this book! Who doesnt love every troupe being thrown at a person. Things i loved inlcuded the setting in Alaska with a "city girl", steam room (wink wink), the sisters relationship. And lasty Forest is the perfect man!!! He is now in my top 5 book boyfriends.

I thought this was a very predictable book.
It does have a few funny parts. If you like your romance with heat definitely add this one to your list.

This book was an absolute delight! Truly surprised to hear this is a debut and looking forward to reading more from this author. This book had so many of my favorite things: a cozy setting, character development, and lots of heart. Appreciate the opportunity to read this early and canโ€™t wait for others to enjoy it as well!

Rating: 4.25 stars

This book delivers all the rom-com vibes you could want! It features some of the best tropes, and the fact that the FMC is a romance writer makes it even more swoon-worthy. Enemies-to-lovers? SIGN. ME. UP.

Forrest and Margot had amazing chemistry from the start, making it impossible to put the book down. The MMC is flawed in the best wayโ€”his imperfections only make him more lovable. Their dynamic kept me hooked from the start!

Another highlight? The Alaskan setting. The snow, the woods, the natureโ€”everything combined to create the perfect backdrop for a cozy rom-com.

The only thing that fell a little flat for me was the ending. There was a perfect moment between them, and thenโ€ฆ it was just over. The last 15% felt rushedโ€”I wanted more. More time with them, more details about certain encounters, more closure.

Still, I highly recommend this book if youโ€™re looking for a fun, binge-worthy rom-com that will keep you smiling.

Thank you, NetGalley, for providing an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

3.5/5 Stars

I will admit I am probably not the demographic for this book.
I mostly picked this book up to see how well it represented Alaska, as someone who is born and raised there.

I think my biggest nitpicks are: (This is just my personal Opinion and will not affect anyone whatsoever if they read this novel)
-Domesticating a Bull Moose while hilarious for plot, would probably lead to the disastrous and life threatening consequences listed in the leases Margot had to sign.
-On the first Wilderness Excursion, if it was near Talkeetna and say somewhere in November. It would have already been near sunset by the time Margot and Forrest crested the peak. Making their journey down a lot more perilous.
-Snow camping, the fact there is no mention of a insulating foam layer or at least a simple cot makes it seem Forrest is an amateur. Cause in a small one man tent with nothing between a sleeping bag and the cold packed snow. You are either getting wet in minutes to an hour, or dying from Hypothermia.
-The cost of electricity and running hot water seems a bit far fetched, especially if this is as wild as it should be. Either they are using generators, gas burning, or romance plot armor.

Other than the Alaska bits, the romance did give me a bit of whiplash with how quickly they were madly in love vs. wanting to have nothing to do with each other. A good book overall.

what a great debut novel!! this was so so good!!! โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ stars!!!

this features some of my fav things in a book: forced proximity, enemies to lovers, cute nicknames, the banter, and he reads her books!!!!!!! we also get a one bed moment but a one tent instead on their camping trip hehe ๐ŸซŽโ„๏ธ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ”๏ธโ›บ๏ธโ˜•๏ธ๐Ÿ“š

i loved the relationship development between forrest and margot. both characters are caregivers for a family member and can connect to the fact that they would do anything for them. the story had a great pace and flowed nicely.

while reading i put on a cozy fireplace ambience video and it was the perfect vibe to match the book which i totally recommend. margot (a romance author) is booked a trip to alaska to rejuvenate after an incident by her sister. there she finds forrest who works at the north star lodge and takes care of his dad. they soon find comfort in one another and go on adventures with other visitors! the characters felt so real to me. a perfect laugh out loud novel with some spice and emotional moments (check tw)

โ€œReading novels is one of the most time-honored ways of understanding and processing the human experience.โ€ Like Victoria Lavine says, this book is a love letter to the romance genre.

I laughed, I cried, I longed and yearned. This novel really highlights some very important topics: family, illness, sacrifice, independence/co-dependence, being seen, and taking chances. I could barely put it down.

Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC! Canโ€™t wait to read more from this author.

This book was so much fun! When best selling author Margot Bradleyโ€™s Happily Never After document is hacked and released to the public, which shows the alternate endings she write for all her characters where their happy endings are swapped for divorce papers, sheโ€™s cancelled and dropped by her publisher. Desperate for a new start and a way to still support her sister who is chronically ill, her sister Savannah books a six-week stay in Alaska where Margot can work on her first murder mystery. Upon arrival, she doesnโ€™t expect literally to run into the arms of a handsome proprietor, Dr. Forrest Wakefield, and land in the middle of a rom-com instead. With snowy nights and tropes bringing Margot and Forrest closer and closer, they will both have to set aside their own fears or risk becoming their own Happily Never After story.

Victoria Lavine, Iโ€™ll read whatever you write! I knew from the dedication page that I was going to love this book and I was right. From the characters, to one of MY favorite tropes (enemies to overs), to the setting in Alaska, to the chronic illness and caretaker rep, to the moose that stole the show! I even loved the Acknowledgments section. Lavine wrote this manuscript while going through a significant battle in her life, and knowing all that sheโ€™s gone through and her resilience makes me appreciate and love this book even more.

Having read almost 400 romantic comedies since I stumbled upon this genre less than three years ago, Iโ€™ve discovered that my absolute favorites are the ones that poke fun at the tropes themselves (looking at you, Nora, from Book Lovers!). With Any Trope but You, Victoria does exactly that through Margot. All the tropes that make us smile, swoon, and giggle are cleverly woven throughout, almost like a game of โ€œWhereโ€™s Waldo,โ€ making the Happily Ever After even more rewarding - especially when the one person who knows all the rules does everything in her power to avoid falling victim to the magic they bring.

Bestselling author Margot Bradley has the life most romance writers dream of: adoring fans, a new book deal, and a monumental interview that promises to boost book sales, solidify the success of her upcoming book, and secure the lifestyle she needs to care for her sister. What the world doesnโ€™t know is that Margot has been living a lie.

Happy Ever Afters are fairytales for the naive - at least in Margot's eyes - and her true feelings about romance are hidden in her secret "Happily Never After" file, where she writes endings grounded in harsh reality. This little outlet kept her balanced and is one of her best kept secret, even from her sister - until an interview goes horribly wrong, when someone hacks her files and shares them with the world.

Now canceled, ousted, and with her newest book (set in Alaska) officially scrapped, Margot is left reeling, unsure of what to do next. That is, until her sister comes up with a "brilliant" idea: six weeks off the grid in Alaska to reinvent herself and take a stab at a new genre - mystery. With no other options and an inability to say no to her sister, Margot reluctantly agrees and embarks on what she considers one of the worst ideas ever: a trip to North Star Lodge.

One moose encounter, a gorgeous lumberjack straight out of her novels, and a classic meet-cute later, Margot quickly realizes her new home (with no internet, by the way) is a prison of tropes. Determined not to become one of the characters in her own books, Margot steels herself, unleashes her icy demeanor, and keeps as much distance as possible between herself and Forrest. Sheโ€™s in Alaska for one reason only: to salvage her career. No distractions!

Dr. Forrest Wakefield misses his life in Los Angeles, but for now, his home is North Star Lodge as he cares for his father, who is recovering from injuries sustained in an accident. Having left behind his work in cancer research, Forrest now focuses on helping maintain the lodge and caring for its guests - a role he almost single-handedly ruined when he got too cozy with a guest, leading to a scathing review.

The past is the past, and Forrest thought heโ€™d learned his lesson - until the moment a gorgeous blonde literally jumps into his arms out of nowhere. Stunned by the most beautiful woman heโ€™s ever seen, he quickly reminds himself of the mistakes of the past and vows to put as much distance between them as possible.

But as time passes, and both Forrest and his unexpected guest begin to let their guards down, they start to realize that maybe romance tropes hold a little more truth - and a little more magic - than they ever thought possible.

This book is hysterical! The wit is off the charts, and Iโ€™ve lost count of the number of one-liners that deserve recognition. Is it odd that my favorite character in the entire book was Savannah, Margot's sister? Donโ€™t get me wrong - Margot nailed the woman-scorned vibe, and Forrest did every trope justice, but Savannah had me cracking up every single time she spoke.

I loved how realistic the third-act breakup was. Honestly, I appreciated how realistic the entire story felt (within fictional reasoning, of course).

I also loved how the secondary characters took the reins of the Happily Ever After.

Obviously, a book thatโ€™s a montage of the greatest tropes was bound to have steam, spice, and everything nice - and Victoria did not disappoint. What made it even more entertaining was Margotโ€™s commentary as the โ€œexpert,โ€ poking fun at how romance often hypes up certain situations, only to find herself validating their possibility in her own โ€œreal world.โ€ It almost gave hope to the idea that, if weโ€™re lucky, real life might just reflect fiction.

There were moments that could have cast shadows over this sunny story, but Victoria did a stellar job keeping it lighthearted.

What I loved most of all was how the story didnโ€™t rely on a grand gesture or wrap everything up magically in the end. The continuation of the story felt grounded and realistic, more in line with what might actually happen to someone we know - again, within reason.

An ode to everything romance books stand for, Victoria knocked it out of the park with this debut novel. Any Trope But You pays homage to everything we know and love about romances, while shining a light on the most dedicated community out there - romance readers. As Victoria said (and my shelves can confirm): we buy all the books!

Synopsis: Margot is a romance writer that doesnโ€™t believe in love. She secretly keeps a happily never after spreadsheet with different endings for her romances. When this spreadsheet is exposed, she is cancelled. Her sister forces her to go to Alaska on a research trip to write her new book. However the remote inn has a very cute staff and soon finds herself in all of the tropes she writes about.

What I liked : I think for the die hard romance fans this book is perfect, it covers all of the tropes and had some very sweet moments. Maybe Iโ€™m too cynical but I found it to be predictable and too much. I think I would have enjoyed it if it wouldnโ€™t have covered everything.

Okay, this was HELLA CUTE!! ๐Ÿ˜ Obviously, as someone who only reads romance, I found it hilarious how Margot (a romance author) keeps using book jargon and points out all the tropes sheโ€™s in while experiencing her own love story ๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ’˜ The way she was basically screaming at the universe like, "Are you kidding me?!" while simultaneously falling hard for him?? The storyline was so good!!! Margot leaves California for a secluded lodge in Alaska to write after her scandal where she publicly declares that, as a romance writer, she doesnโ€™t believe in love ๐Ÿ˜ฌ And then?? She literally jumps into the arms of the handsome man sheโ€™s stuck with for six weeks?? Tell me that doesnโ€™t scream romantic comedy. Iโ€™m here for it!!! ๐Ÿคญ๐Ÿ’–

The banter, the tension, the flirtatious touches I donโ€™t know what it was, BUT IT WAS ELECTRIFYING๐Ÿ”ฅ And donโ€™t even get me started on the one tent trope + the "stay close to me" skin-to-skin contact because sheโ€™s cold and needs to survive the night ๐Ÿ’€ SCREAMING.

Now letโ€™s talk about Forrest the handsome, broody man who, from the moment he sees Margot, you already know heโ€™s gonna fall fast and hard ๐Ÿฅน And letโ€™s not forget heโ€™s doing EVERYTHING in his power to not give in, even while we read this POV and you see sheโ€™s literally all he thinks about?? I could keep talking about how freaking cute this book was, but then Iโ€™d spoil it, so Iโ€™ll leave it at this: read this super swoony book and then try not to romanticize your own life while counting how many tropes you are in right now actually experiencing irl โœจ

Any Trope but You is every romance readers ultimate dream. It follows Margot Bradley, a disgraced romance writer who flees to Alaska to go off the grid and avoid the scandal surrounding her. What she doesnโ€™t expect is getting caught up in every trope imaginable with the resort ownerโ€™s son.

This book had me hooked from the first chapter. A romance writer who doesnโ€™t believe in HAE and gets caught was such an interesting plot. Margotโ€™s chemistry with Forrest was insane right off the bat. I could tell that they would be an explosive couple the second they got together. Forrest was the perfect MMC! Every scene with him and Margo had me giggling and kicking my feet. I usually donโ€™t love a grumpy x grumpy story, but this worked so perfectly for them! The pace moved PERFECTLY in this and not one single part dragged. Adding in a lot of popular book tropes worked in this book because of Margotโ€™s career as a romance writer. Iโ€™m such a fan of enemies to lovers and only one bed (or in this case, tent). There were also some Taylor Swift references that I loved as a swiftie! Overall, this book was so cute and such a quick read! I highly recommend!

I thought this book was really cute! The Alaska aspect of the story was fun and it was easy to see how the couple fit together in their real lives. A bit on the nose for romance tropes but I think that was kinda the point. Either way a fun read!

I finished Any Trope But You by Victoria Lavine (ARC- release day: April 3)

โ€œHow can she write romance novels if she believes love is Satanโ€™s pyramid scheme?โ€

4 โญ๏ธ

Margot is a successful romance author known for her love stories that all end with happily ever afters.

But her own personal life has been quite the opposite. She writes alternative more โ€œrealisticโ€ endings from her books as a private outlet for herself. But when these accidentally get out to the public, her readers turn on her.

Escaping to a remote location in Alaska to write her new novel uninterrupted, all of the clichรฉ romance tropes start happening to her as she meets Forrest, the owner of the lodge.

Forrest is a broody lumberjack who encompasses all of the main male character energy sheโ€™s written about all these years.

Both Margot & Forrest have reasons to not believe in happily ever afters but soon enough, cannot deny their connection anymore.

What to expect:
๐ŸซŽ Broody lumberjack MMC
๐Ÿ“š Romance tropes
๐ŸซŽ Close proximity
๐Ÿ“š Slow burn
๐ŸซŽ Witty & sarcastic
๐Ÿ“š Autoimmune disease representation

Thoughts:
The sarcasm & witty banter in this book were top tier! I was laughing so hard & probably highlighted way too many times. My only negative thing to say is that the third act break up frustrated me.
