MY FAVORITE..... Women's fiction mashed with romance. Not to mention Dr. Forrest got me swooning. Now, I'm seeing the name Forrest in a new light

I was seriously impressed by the writing in this book! I've never read anything by Lavine before, but I was thrilled with the strong voice, turns of phrase and sheer personality that resonated throughout. This book had a bit of a "meta" feel about it (a writer writing a main character who is also a writer), and it honestly read like a love letter to the romance community. We got dual POVs, which I enjoy, and it was rather fun to read a book set in Alaska and all that entailed. A very pleasant read, overall, and perfect for true fans of the romance genre.

Any Trope But You by Victoria Levine was an adorable love letter to romance readers. When Margot Bradley, an extremely popular romance writer’s career goes up in flames, her sister sends her to remote ALASKA in an attempt to make her reinvent herself and rise from the ashes of her career. Or — uhm — in this case snow. She plans to hide out from the backlash of what has happened as well as the entire romance idea as a whole as she chooses an entirely new genre to explore. But as she attempts to write her new manuscript, she finds herself unable to escape all of the romance tropes she knows like the back of her hand. Margot has an adorable meet-cute that involves chopping wood and a moose (Bullwinkle was one of my favorite characters) with a man who seems to be an embodiment of every book boyfriend she has ever written who just happens to be the son of the owner of the resort where she is staying.
Lavine playfully and affectionately pokes fun at the romance tropes that readers have come to love and expect. (Case in point: if a book says it’s fake dating, I will be adding it to my TBR immediately.) This book was fast paced with more going on than just the romance to keep you reading. One of my only gripes with this story could just come down to personal taste but I felt like the amount of spice was pushing it. The story and the relationship was so cute and it just took away from it for me. Again, this is my personal opinion so if that isn’t something you have a problem with I think you would love this book!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!

Lots to love in this book! I love the trope-focus and breaking of the fourth wall in that way. There was a bit of dialogue that felt cringey but the steam was good and loved the representation of caretaking in this book. A solid debut!

Forced proximity! Bright and clever rom com with all the wintery feels. The book was so well written and funny that it instantly made me fall in love with the main characters. They were very easy to relate to and I instantly liked them. I was pleasantly surprised by how deep the plot went, but it just made me love the book more. This is a definite 5 star read for me. I can't wait to see what other books this author has in store for us in the future.

"A love letter to the romance genre..." and a gorgeous debut
Laugh out loud moments as trope after trope happen upon a pair fighting for their lives not to fall in love.
Reminds me of The Rom-Commers, though this is more trope filled and sometimes feels a little gimmicky, though it's still entertaining.

I started this book on my snow day (I'm a teacher!), and I was so excited to cozy up with a blanket and read about Forrest and Margot in snowy Alaska. Margot is a romance author, but her fans turn on her when they realize that she doesn't really believe in the happily ever afters that she writes in her books. WIth the encouragement of her sister, Savannah, Margot heads to Alaska to reset, recharge, and work on her next book. When she first arrives, she is scared by a moose, and she jumps into the waiting arms of Forrest.. Forrest is the embodiment of so many romance tropes- he's tall, strong, good looking, a doctor, and cares about his family.
Forrest falls for Margot when he first sees her, but he keeps his distance because he knows he shouldn't get involved with guests at his family resort. Based on a negative experience with a guest in the past, he fights the urge to be near Margot, but he can't escape his growing feelings for her.
Margot has taken care of her sister, Savannah, who has autoimmune disorders, and Forrest cares for her father as he recovers from an accident. Forrest gives up his life in California to come back to Alaska to help his dad. This is something that bonds Forrest and Margot.
They embark on journies together that leads to more tropes: only one bed, only one tent, snowed in together, and giving into feelings. They share some steamy moments in the sauna!
I loved the discussion about second chances with careers and finding love again after heartbreak. Margot and Forrest were great for each other, and I also enjoyed the setting and side characters. I would give book the 5 stars, but I'm going with 4 because the ending felt rushed and I wanted more.
Thanks to NetGalley and Atria for an ARC of this book.

While I sort of liked the premise of the book, the first chapter seemed to just roll by so quickly with her Happily Never Afters being hacked and displayed it felt almost too fast to set into motion. I think I would have found that more believable if maybe she had said she had a rival author or maybe a crazed fan that she’d been worried about doing something like this. It just seemed too convenient and out there. I got to 11% before I had to call it quits on this. Margot is just so rude right out the gate so it’s really hard to believe that Forest is able to see past that and instantly feel attraction for her.
Wish I had liked this more but thank you Simon & Schuster for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Thoughts:
A funny, “trope-tastic”, sweet and spicy romcom. With forced proximity, a snowed in Alaskan setting, and enemies to lovers tropes, this romance brings both humor and atmosphere. I loved the wintery vibes, the familial relationships, and the character dynamics. Forrest was giving possessive jealous hero vibes, and the “Mine” trope will always be one of my favorites. The beauty of these characters was their individual and relationship journey - overcoming their fears and finding comfort within each other.
With the many positives of this romance in mind, I did feel there was something missing. It didn’t quite have that five-star feeling, and the third act breakup was a bit of a miss for me. Despite this, the overall tone of the romance was very entertaining, and I still think this romance will find its loving home amongst romcom readers.

Eh, I didn’t really care for the main characters in this book. The fmc was embarrassing at times and read pretty childish. The premise was what caught my attention but the execution fell flat

This was all things winter, cozy and enemy to lovers vibes. This book made me laugh out loud and swoon- all the things a great romance book should do!

Any Trope but You is such a cute romance!! The way that the author poked fun at romance book tropes while also using them in the book was hilarious and so well done. Read if you want all the cozy, winter, enemies to lovers vibes.

This was a cute book. I liked the take on it being a romance author who no longer believed in happy ever afters. I really enjoyed the enemies to lovers trope and all the cute like plays on tropes throughout the book. The book seemed a little long in the middle but the ending tied everything up. The spicy aspect was very light in my opinion. Most of the scenes faded to black with maybe one or giving a little more description. All in all it was a cute romance.

I’d like to give a big thank you to Atria Books, NetGalley and Victoria Lavine for allowing me to be an early reader!
This book was fantastic! Any idea or expectation I had was blown away. It was recommended by one of my book besties and I have to say, she was right on the money!
It was very well written, easy to follow and never slowed down to a point where I felt bored. In fact, it had me laughing and smiling pretty consistently throughout the book- if the characters inner monologues and funny remarks are any reflection of this author’s actual personality, she’s probably a blast to hang out with!
The author also did a great job putting you into the book- everything was so well described, I had no trouble picturing every scene or the beautiful landscape. The characters were also all pretty relatable and likable (for the most part). The FMC had a few moments that were eye roll worthy, but who doesn’t?
This is definitely up there on the rom-com list for me, I am so glad that I had the opportunity to read it and would 100% recommend it to anyone looking for an enemies to lovers, rom com that will make them smile.

Bestselling romance author Margot Bradley doesn't believe in Happily Ever Afters so for every romance she writes, she secretly drafts an alternate ending filled with chaos and heartbreak. When her 'Happily Never After' file gets hacked and leaked, Margot is publicly cancelled and dropped by her publisher.
Margot flees to a remote Alaskan resort (thanks to her sister, Savannah) to reinvent herself as a murder mystery writer. Frightened by a moose when she arrives, Margot jumps right into the arms of the proprietor's handsome son, Dr. Forest Wakefield. Forrest left his dream job to care for his father and isn't interested in any distractions. The snowy nights and the barrage of romance tropes make it impossible for Margot and Forrest to fight their attraction, but will their romance end with a HEA or a 'Happily Never After'?
Thoughts:
This book hits SO many romance tropes but never feels over the top, probably thanks to Margot's cynical perspective. Margot and Forrest are layered and relatable characters. It makes their journey heartfelt - especially for anyone who has made sacrifices for loved ones. There's this incredible tension between them as they navigate their fears and growing attraction.
It's almost almost funny how perfect Forrest is. And just when you think, "okay, he's great" we learn another fact that just makes him even better. Poor Margot never stood a chance! This story is fast paced and the third-act break up makes so much sense, you won't be mad about it (shocking, I know). This doesn't feel like a debut book- Lavine knocked it out of the park and I can't wait to see what she writes next!

A cute, light hearted rom com, with a pretty solid amount of spice (but definitely skippable). This book actually made me laugh out loud a few times, and on the whole, I rather enjoyed it. I haven't been a huge rom com fan lately, as I was getting tired if all the tropes. Something about making fun of these tropes was very enjoyable! I also tend to be a close door romance reader, if anything, and while I did skip a few of the spicy scenes in this book, there were a few others I did read through. The intimacy felt genuine and was so hot, without being crude, which I really enjoyed!

Any Trope But You felt like such a unique read. Victoria Levine is a fresh voice from the oversaturation within the romance industry. This book made me laugh, cry, rage, and giggle. For a debut author to possess that power from the jump is incredibly impressive.
Margot and Forrest were such genuine and likable characters that even through my busy schedule I kept aching to pick up my kindle and read. The chemistry. Was. There. I loved the way that Margot called out every trope Forrest embodied as it happened, it made me laugh every time. It really brought the “com” back to rom-com.

There were lots of things I liked in this book. The setting, the setting, and most of the characters.
What I didn’t particularly care for was Margot the female MC. I found it irritating when she wouldn’t admit she didn’t know how to do something, or accept help and then take no responsibility when things went sideways. For example, she wouldn’t admit to Forest (the male MC) that she didn’t know how to start a fire, refused help and then almost burned her cabin down. If I was Forest (whose family owns the resort) I would have been irritated, especially and she doesn’t apologize or accept any responsibility for her actions. I also didn’t like it when she tried to blackmail Forest by threatening him with bad online reviews of the lodge. I wasn’t really rooting for them to get together after reading about half of the book. I was hoping that Forest would come to his senses.
Overall this was a miss for me.

Thank you NetGalley and Atria Books! I was so excited to see this one pop up in my shelves and it did not disappoint!!
The premise is unique—an author, Margot, who gets cancelled after the alternative endings to her romance novels get posted online. She takes a six week trip to a remote cabin in Alaska (because why not?) and meets Forrest, the real-life version of all the tropes she writes about. Margot knows she has to guard her heart because HEAs are for fiction.
This story was full of banter without sacrificing the angst. There were emotional moments that were heavy and relatable mixed in with cozy adventures that had me giggling. Any Trope But You is everything you want in a romance book!

This a book about a romance novel author who doesn’t really believe in love or happy endings. When her readers find out, there is a chance her career is over. So her sister convinces her to take a trip to the wilds of Alaska. While there, she meets a man who meets the standards of every possible romance trope there is.
I highly recommend this book. It is absolutely adorable. It is humorous and entertaining to the very end.
