I can't say enough about ANY TROPE BY YOU. What a fun, cozy debut! Victoria Lavine is officially one to watch. The story is well-paced, witty, and charming from start to finish with characters that pop off the page. Its hook—a romance writer who doesn't believe in Happily Ever Afters—becomes both realistic and complex thanks to Lavine's thoughtful storytelling. Margot and Forrest have palpable, page-turning chemistry and the side characters make just enough appearances to add a richness to the love story. I've already recommended ANY TROPE BUT YOU to several friends and I can't wait to see what Victoria Lavine writes next.

“i’m forrest. from the forest.” 📔🪵🤍🏕️
thank you atria & victoria lavine for “any trope but you” arc!
OH EM GEE! this book truly was one of the funniest romance books packed with such an incredible meaning and two characters who have only ever put themselves first. margot & forrest are the perfect match for each other and i have so much love for them!
everyone deserves their own happily ever after. and i was giddy reading about theirs together! the two of them have placed their family as the priority, and with the situations they are both dealt, it could only be each other (what a great trope)!
UGH loved very single second of this!

I really enjoyed this fun, heartwarming book by Victoria. The main characters Margot and Forrest are wonderfully written and I liked their character arc's. I felt bad for Margot in the beginning after being cancelled and I wasn't sure how she was going to come back from that, but I think it's done well and I love that Forrest was right there with her the whole time. Also, the fact that Forrest downloaded and read her books on his kindle was the cutest thing I've ever heard. The chemistry between these two was palpable.
Great read from a debut author and I'm looking forward to reading more of their work!
Thank you NetGalley and Atria Books for access to the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A fun and quick read! Occasionally the focus on ‘tropes’ as a plot theme felt a bit too forced, but generally sweet and enjoyable.

Okay, this was recommended to me and at first i was like oh fun she’s a writer, she’s going to alaska and gonna fall in love. and it’s true, those things all happen. HOWEVER, no one prepared me for the amazing journey of these two. They are reflections of each other, they see each other, and it’s stunningly gorgeous and made me actually sob like a baby. and then just knocked it out of the park.

Thank you to the publisher / author / NetGalley for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
*Immediately and expeditiously adds Any Trope but You by Victoria Lavine to my Best Reads of 2024 list*
After hearing some rave reviews about a debut set to come out in 2025, I requested it on NetGalley thinking, why not? Little did I think I would actually get an ARC. Even less so, did I think that it would be one of the greatest books I've read this year.
Margot Bradley is a romance novelist who, after some daddy issues and a broken engagement, is a huge skeptic of the classic HEA. When this skepticism comes to light in dramatic fashion, her romance-reader fanbase turns against her. Margot retreats to the Alaskan wild to reinvent herself and pivot to the murder-mystery genre at her sister, Savannah's, urging.
Forrest lives at his family's North Star Lodge, where he is a caretaker for his father who had a debilitating accident, resulting in lifelong disabilities. Forrest has also found himself hurt in the past by an entanglement with a previous Lodge resident, which has left him jaded when it comes to relationships.
Margot and Forrest have the most adorable meet-cute (a moment for the stunning cover!), and despite their undeniable, immediate attraction, the two fight to keep things platonic. Cue weeks of pining & classic romance tropes that lead to their inevitable love story. However, with Margot and Forrest both facing caretaking responsibilities in California & Alaska respectively, will they find a way to make their own Happily Ever After?
A few remarkable notes about this book:
~Lavine's writing is absolutely hysterical! Any Trope but You deals with some tough, heavy topics. But, she approaches these topics with humor and levity that had me chuckling to myself from the second chapter.
~The spice in this novel was top notch - I'm looking at you, sauna scene.
~There are so many fun Swiftie moments in this book! If you've had TTPD on a repeat since it came out, you'll love this book.
You launched yourself at me the first time we met, and it was like the whole fking sun fell right into my arms.
I will rave until I'm blue in the face about how much I loved this. Don't wait until it comes out in April 2025 - request it on NetGalley TODAY. You're welcome.

I don't know if I can say enough good things about this book. Funny, sweet, heartwarming, all of the above?
Absolutely head over heels for both Margot and Forrest in this one. And a debut???? Victoria Lavin is without a doubt going on my list of authors to watch.
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion 🫶🏻 and my honest opinion is that it sat on my shelf waaaaaaaay too long unread. This was EXCELLENT.

Wow! I really enjoyed this book!
I loveeee when the characters are bookish/ have bookish interests! And a romance author is the perfect main character for a romance novel!

This was an enjoyable, cute romcom that gave all the feels. It had the right MC chemistry and the right amount of tension. This is a great winter romance! Thanks NetGalley!

I loved this one! I laughed; I cried. Even being able to see the ending it had me on the edge of my seat. I loved everything about it, especially the setting! Give me all the Alaska books!

Loved this bright and sharp take on all the romance tropes. It was a love letter to romance fans while still standing on its own as a wonderful tale about two people.

Thank you to Atria books and NetGalley for the advanced E-ARC of this title.
This book really is a love letter to romance books everywhere. After Margot, a bestselling romance author, becomes the latest victim of cancel culture, she finds herself needing an escape to reinvent herself. She lands in Alaska and in the literal arms of Forrest. The last thing Margot wants or needs is romance in any way shape or form. To her dismay, she becomes the embodiment of a walking romance novel. The author gives nods to all the best romance tropes in this novel. Perhaps the best in the form of the well-endowed mountain man and sexy lumbar jack MMC, Forrest.
This book is just proof that you can take the girl out of the romance genre, but you can't take the romance out of the girl.
To find out that Victoria Lavine was undergoing cancer treatment at the time of writing this novel, it is no wonder she included the themes of family, trust, and utmost selflessness for the ones you love.
A must read for all romance readers!

This is the perfect love letter to the romance genre and the readers of those beloved books. It’s for those who need a reminder that they deserve their own HEA and it’s for those who may want to do their everything for family members but have to learn to live their own life as well.
When Margot Bradley, the famous romance author gets hacked; it results In her private diary of her hatred towards the happily ever afters to the public. Resulting in her being canceled; her sister books her an off grid trip to Alaska where while trying to forget about romance she meets Forrest who embodies every single trope there is.
This book is absolutely perfection. It has heart, grief, emotional turmoil, disability rep and it is one of the FUNNIEST books I have ever read. If you like romance this is THE book for you. It does get a little spicy at times but not once did this take away from the story. At times predictable, it all flowed so well, the writing style really put you in the Alaskan wilderness and nothing was ridiculous over silly like some romance books can be.
Overall, a fav of the year and on the list of my fav romcoms ever.

Thank you NetGalley for the eARC of Any Trope but You. This was a heartwarming, fast paced read. I didn’t quite connect with the characters like I had wanted. But I definitely think this book will be a huge hit. Looking forward to reading more from Victoria Lavigne.

Any Tope But You has an extremely solid foundation which will capture any romance readers interest.
When Margot, a beloved romance author, has her private “Happily Never After” document outed to everyone about how she doesn’t believe in HEAs, it starts a downward spiral leading to her ultimately being cancelled.
Her sister sends her on a trip to Alaska for a little time to rediscover who she is. While there she meets Forrest who literally embodies every trope she has ever written about. During her time in Alaska, Margot will push herself in ways she never thought possible and maybe even have her own HEA.
There was a lot I enjoyed about this book, the bond between sisters, the personal growth of our lead, and the fun atmosphere.
But I have to point out that there are some bizarre analogies and comparisons in this novel that really ruined certain scenes for me. Two examples are listed below:
1. “On the contrary, my mouth is falling open for him like a fucking guest book, and I feel the responding growl he makes in my toes.”
2. “Slowly, I lift my hand to her face, and it's like a paint can of relief spills through me when, instead of pulling away, she leans her cheek into my palm.”
I think if these were not so out there and forced, this book would have really knocked it out of the park.

What I thought would be a breezy holiday romance was so much more! Not that there weren’t cute and funny moments but we meet Margot and Forrest — two sides of the same coin, trudging through some real responsibilities, trauma and conflict, and dealing with the consequences of their choices and actions. The writing was easy to get into and I’d be interested to pick up more of what the author puts out in future.

Margot is a best selling romance author who can’t find romance in her life so she is off to Alaska to write her first mystery. She meets Forrest all almost all of the “romance tropes” are in their experiences. Enemies to lovers, sharing aren’t, saving her, etc. both Margot and Forrest must focus on their own life and love. . Some parts were too spicy! Yikes!

Thank you to NetGalley and Atria for the ARC in exchange for an honest review
I would recommend if you're looking for (SPOILERS)
-idiots to lovers
-vacation romance
-snowed in together
-what happens in the sauna stays in the sauna
-lumbersexual dr
I had so much fun with this one. A jaded romance author on a forced vacation to the wilderness in Alaska. A lumbersexual of a cinnamon roll. Two people not looking for love but they smack into it (and each other). I loved how tropey and fun this book was, with a beautiful thread of caring for others yet also taking something for yourself. Both MCs have disabled/chronically ill family members and I really apprecaited how that brought them together yet also kept them apart. A beautiful sister relationship. This was a tender hearted read with great chemistry and I cannot wait to read whatever Victoria writes next.

Arc review: 5 ⭐️
Hooo boy I loved this one. The writing was fun and made me actually LOL- but that didn’t take away from the tenderness and humanity of the story at all. If anything it made it more real, because I’m a ball of emotions both good and bad.
As someone with a chronic autoimmune illness, it was interesting reading from the perspective of the caregiver - and it wasn’t done in a way to make the ill party feel like a burden. It was done tactfully, with love and care.
There was such obvious love for storytelling and craft in this book and I’m so happy I got to read it!

While I did find the premise of this super fun, the execution was not, I’m afraid, and I’m kinda sad about it.
The idea of a romance author secretly rewriting the endings of her novels to reflect the harsh reality (in her opinion) only for everyone finding out and basically upending her whole career and then her going to Alaska to change it up and write a thriller while meeting a hot doctor? That sounded great to me.
My reading experience though was mostly filled with some serious second-hand embarrassment, an unlikeable fmc and a romance I didn't care about.
I just couldn’t stand Margot. She came across very rude and entitled and defensive. I can’t for the life of me figure out why Forrest would ever be interested in her, seeing the way she acted towards him.
And with an unlikeable main character, you can’t win in a romance setting. I need to like the main characters in a romance, or it won’t work for me.
I did enjoy the Alaska setting but that was about it.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
