Such a unique and refreshing swoony love story. Absolutely adored Margot and Forrest- their chemistry was amazing and I loved seeing them grow as individuals and as a couple. My man Forrest- he's literally perfect and the spiceee 🥵 (we love a man who begs). It was also really nice to see how much they cared about each other and had an understanding of what they were going through with their families which gave them such a deep connection. Margot and Savannah's relationship as well as Forrest's relationship with his dad both felt so real and so heartwarming.

“Until this moment, I hadn’t realized how truly exiled I felt from the world. But having another person in my corner- having him in my corner- makes me feel braver.”

“I’ve got nothing to give anyone else if you’re not with me.”

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.

I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley in trade for an honest review.

I struggled to get through this book. I liked the idea and the plot, as well as the storytelling and dual perspective (which was necessary to make the characters more understandable and likeable). But I struggled with the length, as it felt like there was a lot of fluff and unnecessary additives. I felt for the characters, and what they were going through, but at one point wanted them to get a break from their difficult lives, and was frustrated over how long their struggles continued in the book. BUT, the growth the characters went through and the happily ever after at the end was definitely worth it.

thank you so much to atria books and netgalley for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review!!

This was a fun book. It can be fun when an author, or I guess an author character talks about tropes and what's happening in real life. However, I do think she mentioned it a few too many times. I like meta romance books to an extent! I loved the adventure part of this story and found the sister relationship to be a great part of this story.

Forrest's jealously got kind of annoying to me, and I feel like they were very instalovey! But I mean he was a sensitive, hot, caring, thoughtful doctor taking care of his sick dad...I get it. haha

Overall I liked this but didn't love it.

Goodness did I love this book’! I was so fortunate to get my hands on an early read and while I wish I read it sooner. I needed to get into the colder weather to truly emerge myself into this story! This was such a fun story and the storyline was well rounded!

This book surprised me in all the best of ways. It was an amazing romcom with all the tropes and an HEA, but it was so tender. The plot line was unique--I've probably read 100 romances this year--so that's saying something!

Margot is THE romance author. Legions of fans. (Think Abby Jimenez, Emily Henry.) Her HEAs make her fans SWOON. But, Margot does not believe in HEAs. Her heart has been shattered by her dad, previous lovers, and most recently, her fiance. She doesn't really have time to figure it out though. Margot is the primary caretaker of her chronically ill sister. This is her personality.

When promoting a new book, it's leaked that Margot has a Google doc with a "Happily Never After" list. She has slammed all of the FMC and MMC with alternative narratives about how miserable their lives ended. It ,through a series of events, gets leaked to the public and she gets CANCELLED by the entire romance community.

Margot is freaking out. She has to support her chronically ill sis. Right? Her team and sister decide that a change of scenery and genre is warranted. So, Margot leaves for the Alaskan outback in a primitive lodge to write a thriller. Yep.

When she arrives, she is thrust in the arms of Forrest who is chopping wood. He's the son of the owner. We learn that Forrest (MD, PhD) moved home to care for his dad six months ago after his dad's injury. There are tropes on top of tropes. It's absolutely precious romance in the best way.

If you love an HEA and all the tropes, you will adore this. It is spicy, but scenes can be easily skipped if that's not your cup of tea. Laughing at every turn because this romance author finds another naturally occuring trope within their "Meet Cute," is absolutely hilarious.

If you are solidly a romance girlie, read this. You won't regret it. Every trope under the sun with a side of real life is MY ideal romance novel. If that sounds like you, read this NOW.

*Any Trope But You* is a charming, witty rom-com. The chemistry between the leads is electric, and their banter is sharp and hilarious. Lavine’s writing is full of surprises, keeping you hooked with clever twists and a perfect mix of humor and heart. It’s a slow-burn romance with real emotional depth, and the ending will leave you smiling. A must-read for anyone who loves a fresh, feel-good romance!

Just finished reading my first ARC from NetGalley and Atria Books — ANY TROPE BUT YOU by Victoria Lavine.

I read a lot — over 280 books this year! — and this warm, cozy gem *instantly* landed amongst my favorite books of the year. So, yes — I willingly fell into the forced proximity trope with this book! I could not put it down.

Any Trope But You is a bright, clever rom com that sets itself apart from the rest with its confidence and heart. The premise is ridiculously clever, the humor is top notch are the chemistry between the two main characters is [chef’s kiss]. And any card carrying romance reader will get a HUGE kick out of every single nod to the genre.

Any Trope But You by @victorialavinewrites comes out in April 2025!

Big thanks to @atriabooks and @netgalley for the ARC!

The book was a cute read, I liked how it differs from most romance books published lately. It was nice that you knew MB would've been okay if Forest didn't come back to get her. It was good exposure for caregivers and what their relationship could look like. I would definitely recommend it to people you want a good romance book without a whole bunch of explicit references on spicy stuff

Omg! Who doesn’t love a good romance novel with a twist. I adored this book. It was so easy to get lost in. I was immediately sucked in and didn’t want to put it down. It’s the kind of story that makes you forget the world is happening around you. Well worth dedicating my weekend to it. I can’t wait to read more from this author!

I enjoyed this book so so much. Margot and Forrest are what dreams are made of! Throw them in the Alaskan wilderness and it’s seriously giving romance novel of the year.

I love the way this story was written, with two POVs. The characters are entirely relatable to real life situations, despite meeting every possible trope of a typical romance story. I love how this author brought them together on common ground despite all the stress and drama that comes with basically being a caretaker for a family member. Bravo, I must read more from her!

This was an enjoyable story, but I wish it were a quicker read. I don't know if it needed additional editing to cut down on repeat comments, but was a slog in some parts to get through. The characters were drawn well and the romance was not overly dramatic, especially in the end. Romance readers will enjoy each new trope that pops up. This was a solid, but not great title.

🩵📖ARC R E V I E W📖🩵. Thank you @atriabooks and @victorialavinewrites for the @netgalley ARC of Any Trope But You. I absolute devoured this one! A listener voicemail on the @badonpaperpodcast touted this as her favorite book of year and said that this author was going to be the next big name in romance. I was immediately intrigued and wholeheartedly agree, I loved it!

Margot is a best-selling romance author based in LA and lives and cares for her sister who has an auto-immune disease. Margot herself has had a lot of disappointment in her life and doesn’t believe in the HEAs she writes for her characters. Her secret is exposed when her Happily Never After document was hacked and released to the public. She’s cancelled and dropped by her publisher. She decides to switch genres and write a murder mystery since the romance community has shunned her. 🔪

Her sister, Savannah, books Margot a 6-week stay at a remote Alaskan resort for her to get away and buckle down to write her new manuscript. There she meets Forrest, an LA-based cancer researcher who is back home caring for his father. Both main characters don’t know what has hit them when Margot arrives in Alaska and the romance tropes start and don’t stop coming.

This is truly the perfect romcom. It’s hysterical, heartfelt, tension for days, and the perfect amount of spice. Such a fantastic debut that I’ll be recommending to every romance reader I know. This one is being released 4/1 (not a joke), but so worth the wait! ❄️

I absolutely adored this book! How is it a debut?! The fact that this isn’t coming out until April is really sad to me because I think it would do so well in the fall/winter.

I loved the setting of Alaska and the tension was off the charts. Margot and Forrest were so good together and the way the title wove into the story was perfection. I may never recover from the sauna scene 🥵

My only thing that I struggled with was the long chapters, which is a me problem. I usually cannot stop mid chapter in a book but had to a few times in this one. It didn’t stop me from loving the book any less. The character development was unmatched and the ending was perfectly wrapped up.

I cannot wait to see what Lavine does next!

I just finished reading "Any Trope But You" by Victoria Lavine, and what a fun surprise! The story follows Margot, a romance author who's lost faith in happy endings, as she embarks on a journey to rediscover herself in the Alaskan wilderness. The dynamic between Margot and Forrest is both heartwarming and hilarious. Their banter kept me entertained, and I loved seeing their relationship evolve. The book beautifully captures the struggles and joys of caregiving, adding depth to the romance. It's a perfect blend of humor, emotion, and steamy moments that kept me hooked from start to finish.

Ok - loved this!!! Such a fun take on one of the characters being an author. I loved the grumpy sunshine vibes but also how warm and caring Forrest could be with Margot. This is the perfect winter read!

This book has what so many romances are lacking: reality. There are real-life challenges that aren’t resolved, but managed. We get our HEA, but it feels real. The dialogue is sharp, witty, and roots us in the present. The characters aren’t caricatures, and the knowing references to all the tropes are fun without being heavy-handed. I really enjoyed this book!

This book was okay *shrug emoji*

I want to be WOWED by a romance and unfortunately this one just didn’t have what I was looking for. I didn’t connect with the characters, I found the inciting incident unrealistic, and the writing a bit cheesy.

I did like the way illness and caretaking entered the plot - it was a little different from what I usually see in books like these.

Overall, though, it was a miss for me…but if you’re looking for a ln easy wintry read with lots of common tropes, it might be for you!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for this honest review.
