The Murder Pit was a light, breezy read which I like in a cozy. Daisy is out there doing her sleuthing bit and we get lots of set up for her world and family since this is the first book in the series. Homeschooling is a big part of the family's life and activities. But, a unit on crime scene protocol prior to the events in this story... really.... for 12, 10 and 8 year olds??? Daisy has very strong opinions and could be a bit abrasive. It didn't cross the mark for me, but it made me curious about the later stories.

There were problems with poor proof reading. I'm not the most observant reader, particularly when I am really into a story (if I'm bored I tend to pick). I noticed at least 5 errors which included the wrong name for her son, a word ending after the first letter, the wrong word substituted for another like listed for listened, etc.

The real short fall are details for the crime. How was the person killed? When? What about the signs of decomp?

The prose flowed well, but the book definitely needed better editing. It seemed like the work of a newbie author with promise.

I received my copy from Netgalley in exchanged for my honest review.
