It is Jess's bachelorette weekend, her and the girls are off for an unforgettable trip to Las Vegas. They head down the strip, full of glitz and glamour in their limo with a glass of fizz in hand to prepare for the night ahead. Will the secrets each girl holds destroy the evening, or worse, the entire friendship.
The opening scene to this mystery was very exciting, with regular thoughts of what on earth happened to these girls. However I kept expecting a tiger in the bathroom as it was for too similar to The Hangover.
I enjoyed the book and read it quite quickly but found it rather repetitive it kept me wanting to know what happens next and I didn't guess the outcome, which I quite like from a book.
It is listed as a psychological thriller, in my opinion it was more young adult, chick lit though.
Overall I would recommend this book to young adults or anyone looking for an easy read that is full of twists and intrigue.
Five Bestie Girlfriends go to Vegas for one of their bachelorette parties. With all kinds of activities and nonstop fun planned what could go wrong? Well, it seems quite a bit that turns these besties into armchair sleuths to figure out who, what, when, where and why the weekend turned out the way it did. Lots of fast paced action in this one. Thank you to Netgalley,, Little Fox Publishing and the Author J.E Rowney for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Five best friends. One unforgettable bachelorette weekend. A Vegas adventure that will change their lives forever.
Jess has always been the responsible one, the planner. But for her bachelorette party in Las Vegas, she's ready to let loose with her four best friends. VIP passes, exclusive clubs, and a weekend of carefree fun – what could possibly go wrong?
Everything, as it turns out.
When Jess wakes up in a bathtub full of ice with no memory of the night before, she knows something has gone terribly amiss. Her maid of honor and best friend Rachel is missing, and the other girls are scattered around their luxurious suite in various states of disarray. As they piece together the events of their lost night, they uncover a web of secrets that threatens to unravel their tight-knit group.
In the glittering, high-stakes world of Las Vegas, Jess and her friends must confront their deepest insecurities, question their trust in each other, and navigate the complex dynamics of female friendship. With each revelation, they're forced to reevaluate not just their weekend, but their entire lives.
Loved it. Will recommend to others.
Thanks to NetGalley, publishers and author for and
ARC of Waking Up In Vegas.

Described as a psychological thriller, I would move this book somewhere between suspense and chick lit. While I found it a gripping and easy read, with many unexpected twist (and some not so unexpected) the book was slightly too 'Hangover' for me. I still managed to finish it quickly, and it hasn't put me off reading any other works by this author.
Recommend, but not if you're looking for a heart pumping thriller.
My first thought is, wow. This book definitely kept me reading. It's was crazy, not silly. I had no idea where it was going until the very end. Genius idea, makes me wonder if stuff like this really happens in Vegas. It was definitely different from any book I've read, and I totally loved it! Looking forward to more from this author.
Thanks to netgalley, the publisher and author for super fun ARC read.
As someone who got married in Vegas, I was so excited to read this! A bride to be has her bachelorette party and things turn dark. This was very fast paced book, which I loved. This is the first book I have read from this author, so I will be checking out her other books.
Amazing book. My first by this author. I would definitely read again. Love the twists and turns of this book. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC of this book! 4 big stars!
All I could think about when reading this book was the movie "The Hangover" except they are all women and there are no face tattoos and tigers.
They show up to in Vegas to have the ultimate Bachelorette Party for Jess. The book is told in back and forth from the night before and the morning after.
It starts out with the women waking up in a trashed hotel room. One in an ice bath, one in a closet, one handcuffed to a blackjack dealer, another in a showgirl costume and one of them is missing and cannot be found. None of them have any memories about how this happened and they work to retrace their steps trying to find out what happened last night.
This is a fun light read. I started it on a plane ride thinking I was going to get through a few chapters and then take a nap on the flight but it was so entertaining I stayed awake the entire flight and binge read the book.
The quest to find out what happened the night before kind of reminded me of an Escape Room, except in this case, the Escape Room was the city of Vegas. There were clues to finding their friend and they had to follow them.
The ending made me laugh out loud. Seriously, it was a modern day Wizard of Oz ending. Not giving out spoilers, but when you read it, you'll get my analogy between the two if you are an Oz fan lol
Don't take this book too seriously or overanalyze it. It's a silly, humourous read, much like the over-the-top comedy of "The Hangover."
This book is definately Hangover movie vibes. I devoured it in a couple of sittings. I really enjoyed the back and forth on the timelines. That was a lot of fun to see how their night had progressed along side their morning. I was not expecting that type of ending. It was almost an anticlimactic ending, would have loved more suspense and twist to the ending. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.
I was super excited for this book after reading the premise! Sadly, it did not live up to my expectations.
The characters were really annoying! Was unable to connect with any of them. The amount of repetition was actually insane. The amount of times that we heard the same thing about the women in each chapter was beyond receptive. I don't know if this book was properly edited, as I feel like this should have been caught.
This was a fast read. A quick paced fun romper through Vegas. It was a bit predictable but I enjoyed it. Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book
Jess and her closest friends are headed to Vegas for a bachelorette party and what could go wrong? This was a quick read that takes you back and forth from the night of to to the next morning. It has a mysterious air to it that keeps you going from chapter to chapter to find out what happens!
Thank you so much for allowing me the chance to read this as an ARC!
I found some of the writing to be a bit cliché especially the constant references to 'a night to remember' or 'a night you'll never forget especially considering the main characters end up not remembering anything from that evening. However I really enjoyed the duel timelines and charecter growth.
I truly enjoyed the twists and turns in this book! When the girls on a trip wake up after a night in Las Vegas, their night rivals The Hangover in mystery. I never guessed the ending, and was always looking forward to finding out what REALLY happened that night. This was a fun read that I recommend that others enjoy, as well.
What could have been one of “those” women’s fiction novels veers in the thriller direction rather quickly. Jess, the bride for whom all the plans have been laid, wakes the morning following their inaugural night out in Vegas in a tub of ice water.
It doesn’t take long before Jess sees the destruction of the hotel suite but does take a little longer to find three of the others, Rachel is missing. The common denominator between them all is that none of them have any memory of the night before. So what happened? And where is Rachel?
After some deliberation, they begin to pool what little memories each have of the night before. They determine their first consideration has to be to find Rachel.
As the day wears on, each character is fully developed, and the reader fully engaged.
In the meantime, Vegas is depicted as the exciting spectacle it is with lights and sounds and then the somewhat dark, sinister crush of humanity in the underbelly. Each nuance adds to the tension and lays on another level of psychological stress. Trust each other? Trust Jess’s fiance’s warning?
I have to admit I tired of some redundant angst and was also thrown by several twists. Certainly unusual and well paced after a leisurely start and kept my interest. It is unique and entertaining.
Waking up in Vegas by J.E Rowney was a good read! I enjoyed the book. I liked the mix of different personalities and how they each played a role in the plot. I was always finding myself chuckling or in suspense of what happened next! It is a great book if you are looking for a quick read or a palette cleanse from other books! Great Job! Well done!
I dig the "girls' trip gone awry" trope, and this book definitely fit that bill! Bachelorette parties are the perfect scene for a murder mystery in my opinion.
An enjoyable and exhilarating girls’ trip takes an unexpected turn when they awaken disoriented and unable to recall the events transpiring the previous night. Compounding this predicament is the absence of one of their companions. This situation bears a striking resemblance to the aftermath of a hangover, yet it also incorporates elements reminiscent of several other films that I found particularly captivating. Despite the challenges they face, this group demonstrates remarkable resilience, surpassing my own expectations. Overall, this captivating mystery novel provides an entertaining and engaging reading experience.
Can a book be both fast-paced and have you wanting it to go faster at the same time? This Hangover-like mystery uses alternating timelines to reconstruct a bachelorette party gone awry. The two threads are both evenly interesting and keep the intensity high.
Thank you NetGalley, author, and publisher for this ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book does a great job delivering on the mystery and thriller aspects, drawing readers into Jess and her friend group’s adventure. The author has a knack for sparking vivid imagery, immersing us in the scenes through imagination. However, I did notice a lot of repetitive information throughout—sometimes only just a chapter or two after the initial details were introduced. Additionally, the story feels a little drawn out in some places because it delves into descriptions that do not really advance the plot. Another aspect that didn’t work as well for me was the introduction of some ideas, characters, or background information. Occasionally, there’s a lot of backstory given all at once, wherein a more gradual introduction could’ve made it feel more natural.
The characters are generally likable, but a few feel somewhat two-dimensional. They’re often so confined to certain personality traits that they can come across as unrelatable, and at times, their actions seem questionable or frustrating. Despite a few plot holes or loose ends, the author did a solid job wrapping up the story with a “full-circle” ending, which felt satisfying.
I’m also not entirely sure who the target audience is supposed to be. While the ending feels aimed at teens or young adults, some of the book's themes suggest it could be for a more mature audience.
Overall, I still think that this was an engaging read!
