I would have thought I’d be tired of this series by now but it honestly #5 is just as fun as the first book!
I really enjoyed the latest installment of Finley Donovan. After searching for a good summary of the last books and not finding one, I was worried I would be lost since it has been a year since the last book. However, the author does a nice job reminding the reader of plot points and this one relied much less on the previous books’ plots and instead had a plot that felt more separate. However, I would 100% read these in order!
I thought this one might be the last at end but the author leaves it open for another and honestly I’m here for it.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc!

Finlay Donovan Digs Her Own Grave mostly delivered on everything I love about this series—witty commentary, fun odes to motherhood, and Vero’s ever-entertaining personality. It had a nostalgic feel, reminding me of what initially drew me to Finlay’s chaotic world. After the third book fell flat for me, I wasn’t sure I’d continue the series, but book four and now this one have been pleasant surprises. While not without its over-the-top moments, it kept me engaged and entertained, making for an enjoyable read. Fans of the series will appreciate the humor and fast-paced plot!

4.5 stars. Finlay & Vero at it again. I just love these books! They’re so fun and silly and over the top and I’m just such a fan.
I didn’t expect to love Mrs. Haggerty, but here we are 🤣🙌
My love for Detective Nick continues.
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for the chance to review an advance copy!

I love this series so much! Elle Cosimano has such a sharp sense of humor and the banter between her characters flows so easily. It’s always such a fun read and I’m never disappointed.
I really grew to love Mrs. Haggarty in this book, I know we didn’t see much of her other than being Finlay’s nosy neighbor but I really loved how everything ended up with her character. I also loved her little friendship with Cam, the kid’s an icon and I love him.
Super excited to see what happens in the next one!

I was not familiar with this series or the author. This probably impacts my review as the book felt very disjointed. Maybe if I had read the books in order, some of the confusion would not exist. I enjoy murder mysteries. This book felt more like a frantic Lucy and Ethel episode. This type of slap stick action is not my favorite.
Finlay and Vero are friends who seem to find themselves in a pickle. The author eluded to prior books where this is a common theme. Finlay is a murder mystery writer and Vero is wanted in another state.
For such a short book, I was not drawn into the characters or the plot. It was easy to put it down and grab a different book.
Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy.

Sharp, witty and strong, Finlay and Vero make every single entry a home run! Once I start reading a book in this series it’s hard to put it down until I turn that very last page.

I absolutely love this series! The fifth installment might just be one of my favorites yet. I enjoyed getting to know the new supporting characters just as much as reconnecting with the familiar faces we've grown to love. I'm already looking forward to the next adventure!

Another fun installment with Finlay Donovan. This may be my new favorite. No spoilers, but I loved the book club and their mission. Why do they always end on a cliffhanger? Can’t wait to read the next one.

Finlay Donovan does it again! I just love this cast of characters and all the antics they get up to! Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review

Finlay and Vera help nosy neighbor Mrs. Haggerty when a body is discovered in her backyard and she becomes an unwelcome guest. Fast paced and female forward amateur sleuths back at it again. Thanks to NetGalley and Minotaur Books for an advanced copy for an honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for access to this title. All opinions expressed are my own.
As usual, I have done things backwards. I had noticed that the Finlay Donovan series was quite popular and in requesting book 5, I have just begun my journey with the amateur sleuth. That's right, I have started with book 5. Finlay and her children's nanny, Vero, host their neighbor Mrs. Haggerty, while trying to make sure Finlay's ex Steven doesn't spend the rest of his life in prison for a crime he didn't commit.
I enjoyed my read. The characters were well written and the dialogue made me laugh more than once. The whole potty training with Finlay's son. It was hilarious and believable! I think a lot of us know a Mrs. Haggaerty in our neighborhoods. I like how she keeps Finlay on her toes and the readers, too!
I received the first three books in the series, and now having received a little taste of Finlay Donovan, I am looking forward to it.

I loved this, another amazing edition to the Finlay Donovan world. This book wasn’t as high stakes as the other ones, this felt more like a comfy cozy mystery. As always I love the characters, Vero is an icon and Nick is just the ideal man. Being as it wasn’t as high stakes as the others, it felt like a nice little break from the dramas of the others, not saying that this is boring because it’s NOT. This isn’t my favorite but that’s only because how can you top the original first Finlay book.

In the fifth installment of the Finlay Donovan series, Finlay Donovan Digs Her Own Grave, author Elle Cosimano once again delivers a delightful blend of mystery, humor, and unexpected twists. The story follows Finlay Donovan, a novelist and single mother, who, alongside her loyal nanny and partner-in-crime, Vero, becomes entangled in a perplexing murder investigation. When a body is discovered in the backyard of Finlay's elderly neighbor, Mrs. Haggerty, the duo is reluctantly drawn into the chaos that ensues. As Mrs. Haggerty temporarily moves into Finlay's home due to the ongoing investigation, Finlay and Vero find themselves navigating a series of secrets, all while striving to keep their own past misdeeds concealed.
The book is filled with wit and charm, capturing the suburban and amateur sleuthing. The novel evokes a spectrum of emotions, from genuine laughter at the protagonists' antics to suspense as the mystery unfolds. Readers are treated to a fast-paced narrative that balances comedic elements with the tension of uncovering hidden truths.

After a bit of a bumpy ride in the 4th book, this intallment of Finlay's story finally felt more on-par with the start of the series! I found the character arcs much more satifying and deep this time around, without quite so many ridiculous hi-jinks that pulled me out of the story.

Rating 4 .25 stars
All my favorite (Finlay, Vero, Cam and Nick) and not so favorite characters ( Mrs. Haggerty and Steven) are back in the addictive Finlay series. Finlay and Vero find themselves pulled into a police investigation when a body is found in their neighbor Mrs. Haggerty's backyard. Mrs. Haggerty needs their help and they get stuck with her as a roommate.
I loved a many things about this book:
*I loved learning Mrs. Haggerty's backstory (started to like her character a little more by end of the book)
* The scenes with Delia and Zach were so relatable. Especially the boy bully(my daughter took down a boy bully similarly at that age) and the potty training which had me laughing. I wish this series existed when my kids were this age.
* Finlay Donovan Digs Her One Grave is a fun mystery mixed with women supporting women at the heart of the story.
My only negative:
* I have to wait for the next installment in the series after the huge cliffhanger.
Thanks to St. Martin's Press, Minotaur Books, NetGalley and author Elle Cosimano for the digital ARC for the honest review . Release date: March 4, 2025

I deliberately waited to listen to this until I knew I had a block of uninterrupted time to do so and, though it was difficult as I wanted to dive in right away, it was worth the wait! The whole gang is back and trying to prove Steven’s innocence in their trademark somewhat less-than-legal way. There’s plenty of laughs and questionable investigative tactics throughout but also a more serious side as they dig deeper. I love everything about this series and can’t wait for more!

Finlay Donovan and her nanny/partner-in-crime, Vero, have not always gotten along with Finlay’s elderly neighbor, Mrs. Haggerty, the community busybody and president of the neighborhood watch. But when a dead body is discovered in her backyard, Mrs. Haggerty needs their help. At first a suspect, Mrs. Haggerty is cleared by the police, but her house remains an active crime scene. She has nowhere to go . . . except Finlay’s house, right across the street.
I read this book on an airplane and y’all…I tried my hardest to keep my laughter contained. And I was not too successful!!
As usual, Finlay is a hot mess! Add in Mrs Haggerty and you have a team that just might get their happy little butts into hot water. But Vero takes no prisoners. She is probably my favorite character. Talk about some one-liners…Vero is full of them..SASSY is an understatement!
This is part of a series. It is not necessary that you read them in order…but I would read them!

Finlay Donovan Digs Her Own Grave (Finlay Donovan, #5) by Elle Cosimano opens where the last installment ended. Mrs. Haggerty has been arrested after the body of a man was found buried in her back yard but is cleared by the police. Finlay is roped into letting Mrs. Haggerty stay at her house until the utilities are turned back on at Mrs. Haggerty's house. Finlay and Vero are on their best behavior and in no hurry to be involved in another murder but ends up helping to solve who buried the man in Mrs. Haggerty's yard so she can be rid of the old woman.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for approving my request to read Finlay Donovan Digs Her Own Grave (Finlay Donovan, #5) by Elle Cosimano. I received an Advanced Readers Copy (ARC) for free in exchange for my honest review.
I absolutely loved the fifth installment in this series. The thing I enjoyed the character development of Mrs. Haggerty along with some of her backstory. It gave me a new found respect for this character, and I found myself actually liking her. Yes, I am baffled by this too after disliking the character for so long. Additionally, the relationship between Nick and Finlay is finally growing, and I enjoyed this development. I also enjoyed the fact that Finlay and Steven are getting to a better place in their co-parenting relationship. Delia and Zach are more present in this edition, and some of their hijinks are funny.
The mystery portion is a bit subdued this time around, which is actually nice for a change of pace. The motive behind it was a bit far fetched though. And, yet again, we are left with a bit of a cliffhanger.
All in all, this was a fun read that let me escape from reality for a few hours. I gave Finlay Donovan Digs Her Own Grave (Finlay Donovan, #5) by Elle Cosimano five out of five stars.

4.5 Stars rounded up
Finlay Donovan is back! This is such a fun series to read, I always look forward to a new Finlay mystery. The characters feel like family, it's always so fun to spend time back in their world. Finlay Donovan Digs Her Own Grave is the fifth in the series, and Ms. Cosimano continues to keep the storyline fresh and fun as she mixes a healthy dose of comedy and a little romance in with the mystery.
Mrs. Haggerty becomes the focus of this book when a body is discovered in her backyard and she’s the prime suspect. Since her house is a crime scene and she has no where else to go, Finlay takes Mrs. Haggerty in. Regular series readers will know Mrs. Haggerty as the nosy neighbor who is always watching, but Finlay isn’t sure how much she may (or may not) have seen. Having Mrs. Haggerty live with Finlay and crew sets up plenty of laughs for the readers as Finlay works to get to the bottom of the mystery.
The fourth book wrapped up some overarching storylines, so if you’re new to the series, this book is a good place to start. (Although I do recommend starting from the beginning!) If you’re into audiobooks, I definitely recommend listening. Angela Dawe is terrific, I find myself laughing out loud quite a lot as I listen to the latest mess Finlay and Vero have gotten themselves into.
Many thanks to Mac for letting me listen to this audiobook, and Netgalley for the digital ARC.

This series is just fun! Book 5 picks up right where book 4 left off and doesn’t slow down. I loved Mrs. Haggerty! She was so funny. If you loved the other ones in the series, you will love this one too.
