There are some things about this book that I loved. Larry the Cat lives with the PM and his family and interacts with them quite a bit. There is a lot of political shenanigans in the books. Backbiting and ambition are only two. When someone is murdered in the Houses of Parliament, it reveals some shady dealings. Theo’s father, Will, is facing confrontation not just from the Opposition but from within his own Party. But rather than being open, the plotting takes away the focus from some important Bills.

Theo and Sammy are both working as unpaid aides and use the tools at their fingertips to try to figure out who killed the victim and how it all is caught up in the political machinations. The story is interesting and the little bits of information about how British democracy works is fascinating. But our two protagonists.get to go some unbelievable places and do some unbelievable things. It is only towards the end of the story that either one of them begins to twig about how very dangerously they are skating near the edge. What does save the story from falling into the Darwin trap is the relationships between the friends and the relationships within Theo’s family. And of course Larry. Four purrs and one paw up.

The second in the Westminster Mysteries series and I thought this was even more gripping then the first to be honest! Theo and Sammy make a great team and their friendship and actions feel very realistic for their age. The level of politics included is just right for the target audience too. It's definitely a series I'd recommend to middle-grade readers.

**Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read an advanced e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own **

This is the second book in the Westminster Mysteries series by Susan Lustig. It can stand alone, but the first book does cover quite a bit of background that would be helpful in reading this book. The main characters are still Theo, the Prime Minister's son, and Sammy, his friend with opposite political views. Together they investigate odd events related to the British Parliament and the members of the House of Commons and the House of Lords, specifically against the orders of Theo's father who does not want him involved..

In this book they are investigating the sudden drowning death of a parliamentary aide, who had information about secret plot by a group of ministers from the leadership party that would disasterously affect Theo's father - whose hold on the leadership reins is tenuous at best. The plothas some good twists and surprises but as in the first book in the series, also gives a wonderful glimpse of the workings of Parliament but even more so on the true nature of politics and what some people will do to stay in power and protect their political party.

I think that this series will open the minds of its intended readers to the ideas of what motivates politicians, and what happens when these people then perform acts that contradict their true beliefs. I found it very eye-opening and I think that young readers will too - as well as enjoying a well-written, character driven story.

*Body in the Thames* is an engaging mystery that combines political intrigue with a young detective adventure. In this sequel to *Mystery in the Palace of Westminster*, Theo Duncan—son of the Prime Minister—and his friend Sammy are thrust into a murder investigation when a body is found in the Thames. As they navigate their work experience in Parliament, the duo teams up with journalist Erin Connelly to dig into the mystery, uncovering secrets and political tensions that could tear Will Duncan’s party apart.

The plot is fast-paced and filled with suspense as Theo and Sammy work to connect the clues, evading heightened security and questioning MPs within the Palace of Westminster. The setting adds a fascinating layer to the mystery, immersing readers in the world of British politics while maintaining the accessibility and excitement perfect for younger readers. The two young sleuths’ determination and cleverness drive the story forward, keeping readers invested in the case and its political stakes.

*Body in the Thames* is an enjoyable, well-crafted mystery with relatable characters and a suspenseful plot. It’s an excellent read for mystery lovers, especially those who appreciate stories of intrigue, teamwork, and high-stakes adventures.

Sarah Lustig does it again in the Westminster Mystery series, I enjoyed the mystery to this series and how it worked with the first book. I was invested in what was happening and enjoying the concept. The characters had that overall feel that I wanted and was glad I got to read this. I can’t wait to read more in this series and from Sarah Lustig.
