Soul of the Stone is book two in the Soul of the Slayer Series by Sharina Harris.
I really enjoyed book one Sign of the Slayer and was very excited to have received a copy of the second book in this series.
This was a great follow-up to the first book and picks up where the last one ended.
I loved being back at it with Raven and these characters.
These characters are diverse and full of heart. I truly enjoyed reading about Raven and Khamari’s journey.
The magic system in this world, and the overall worldbuilding, also feels very strong.
The storyline is captivating, and the witty banter adds to the thrill of the story.
Soul of the Stone is an enemies-to-lovers, forbidden romance.
This story was so much better than I ever could have imagined.
Sharina had me glued to the pages of this young adult fantasy that’s full of betrayal and mystery. There are so many twists, turns, and surprises in this story.
A witty, gritty vampire/vampire slayer story!
I hope there will be more books in this series.
Thank You NetGalley and Entangled: Teen for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
Picking up from the mayhem of book 1 we see Raven aka Texas training harder and learning how to control not her the darkness within but the power of the prophesied stone she inherited when she became the maximus.
This book takes us on a journey as Raven and Khamari race through the underworld seeking an artifact that can change the fate of humanity and vampires alike.
All I want if for Raven and Khamari to have their Seco d chance but after that ending I can see it will be a long hard road ahead. Raven must now prepare to face her most dangerous foe and it will take everything she has within her to win. Even if it means tapping into the darkness that causes her berserker to come forth.
My overall rating is somewhere between a 3 and 4, so I am rounding up here. This picked up right where the first book dropped off, and the witty and cleverness of the author during this book was great! I loved the Waffle House and Mean Girls reference, along with all the other pop culture in the book. I also do not read as many books that are set in the current world, but it made this such a fun read seeing places I was familiar with and knew. The second half of the book I think was better than the first half, and I overall wish I had a little more imagery in all the places the characters went. I loved the romance and the internal fight on what to do, and I cannot wait to see how this book series finishes! I love the twist (or at least I felt it was one) at the very end, and I am excited to see how this plays out in book 3.
3.5 stars rounded to 4
Soul of the Stone picks up right where Sign of the Slayer left off as Texas (Raven) and her team continue on there high stakes journey to defeat Alexander. The book dives deeper into the lore of vampires and slayers, enriched by African and African American cultural influences. Action, banter, emotional growth, cliffhanger, this YA book has it all! It was a bit slow at some parts, and Texas and Khamari almost brought me to tears, but this is hands down one of my favorite reads of this year.
I’m not okay.
Thank you to entangledteen, to Britney to be able to be part of the tour and to get this arc. I got so lucky that I got the arc for the first one and the second one.
This book made me laugh a lot, the things they say oh my gosh. Love it. 🖖
It has a lot of “adult” theme, what I mean by that, a young teenage girl, who is feeling so beyond betrayed, that everyone around her keeps wanting to keep her safe, but letting her have a choice is hard. Texas is hard headed, but she wants to prove everyone that she doesn’t need to be rescued, but she can rescue everyone else.
There’s a lot of quotes, that I love this book that I could so relate, especially what I’m going through right now.
It’s very well written, I could not put down. It was so good. I cried at the end. So I’m not okay, and that cliffhanger! It’s so good, but I want more haha
….. so when does the third one come out???
Better than the first book! Raven aka Texas is coming into her own and really growing in the one. The development of everything regarding the souls in the stone, their powers, b*tch Rich and his questionable role in the beginning of it all. I can't wait to learn more and experience more from the 100. I absolutely loved all of the Egyptian mythology and gods. The trials and overcoming one's own self to become their best and strongest version was awesome. The continued evolution of Khamari and Raven's love was so good, and while I have intrigue when it comes to Anton...are you kidding me? I'd always pick Khamari, he's gorgeous inside and out. I love his POV chapters, I love how fully he loves Raven, and he doesn't hide from his flaws because at the end of the day he knows his heart is in the right place and stands by his decisions. Sharina, one character request (ok, maybe two) - more Rose PLEASE! But, also more Khaven even though I know with that ending we're about to get some more. THE ENDING!!!! I can't stand the wait for the next book....
Thank you Entangled Teen, Sharina Harris, and NetGalley for this e-ARC. My posting is slated for October 12th and I will link below after posting!
The FMC, Texas, is so snarky and bad ass! I would call her sassy, but I learned she does not appreciate that. Throughout the books we see Texas try to overcome her past trauma and heartbreaks and prevent those from affecting her present day choices and feelings.
Soul of the Stone picks up where Sign of the Slayer left off. The slayers are regrouping in preparation for another battle with Vampire Daddy Alexander. Texas is trying to understand all of her new powers and grapple with the fact that her ex- boyfriend and vampire betrayed the world. We learn even more about the world and the lore surrounding both vampires and slayers. The Egyptian history aspect was super interesting to me. Texas must overcome her past, stop fighting the darkness inside of her, and learn to trust again in order to help save the world against Alexander.
Texas and Khamari’s story arc was truly chefs kiss and also incredibly heartbreaking!
The authors humor shines through with the funny chapter titles, witty banter, and hilarious pop culture references.
What a great follow up to Sign of the Slayer, if you enjoyed the first book you will enjoy Soul of the Stone! If you are looking for a YA series, this could be a good hit for you!
This book was absolutely amazing. The storyline completely captures you with all the events taking place as well as character growth. I loved Khamari and Texas and all that they have to go through in order to grow. Definitely check out if you get emotionally invested in your books! Can’t wait to read more as the story continues
“Soul of the Stone” serves as the sequel to “Sign of the Slayer,” picking up right from where the first book concluded. I completed both books in just two days! The storyline is captivating, and the witty banter adds to the enjoyment. The authors’ humor shines through, especially in the clever chapter titles. Book two is packed with events, showcasing beautiful emotional and spiritual growth. I found myself tearing up for Khamari and Texas and all they endure. I anticipated a heartbreaking conclusion, knowing it wouldn’t be straightforward—this journey has only just begun. I eagerly await the next installment in this series.
If you’re in search of an engaging YA fantasy, this series is an excellent choice!
This was a great sequel in the American Slayer Society series, it had what I enjoyed from Sign of the Slayer and improved on it with this world. The characters felt like they were supposed to and enjoyed the overall story being told in this. It uses the vampire element perfectly and glad I got to read this. Sharina Harris always does a great job and I wanted more.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this book.
I enjoyed the read. The characters were amazing and the plot easy to follow. I read it over the course of the weekend on and off and had no difficulty jumping right back into it.
Recommend.
Book 2 will grip you from the beginning. You'll find character growth as well as an exciting adventure.
We pop back in to Raven and the team as the regroup after the drama of the end of book one. Shout out to one of the best in-story recaps I've read in a while! We are able to get a refresher on what happened without it feeling out of place. I enjoyed the pacing and plotline of this book, maybe even more so than in book one. Raven starts to embrace her new powers and her role within everything. There is so much activity in the third act, and omg the last 5%!!! I can't wait to see where this goes.
Thanks to Entangled Teen and NetGalley for an eARC of this book for an honest review!
I absolutely loved the first book and this next installment was even better. I found the lore in this one really fascinating. And the world building was amazing. I felt like I was right there with the characters. This book pulls you in and captivates you from beginning to end. If you like vampire books then I highly recommend this!
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for allowing me to read this book ahead of release in exchange for my honest opinion.
This was a good follow-up to the first book and picks up where the last one ended. I know YA vampire books especially with Black vampires/vampire slayers are popular at the moment so if you like that you should read this/start this series. This second book continues with more lore and worldbuilding, especially with the history of the vampires and the slayers. We find out more about the voices of the fmc here and how they relate to the world and vampires. I enjoyed the lore in this and how it seem to draw from diverse African/black American cultures and history.
Like I said in the first book I liked the diversity in characters and seeing black romance in books. It's still sort of a forbidden romance between enemies and lovers. I feel like this one also ended on a high note so I hope there will be another one. Thank you entangled teen for this arc.
