This was a cute hockey love story and I enjoyed it very much. Thank you for allowing me to read and review this ARC
This book was not for me. It read like someone picked up their dolls and started playing with them. There was no backstory, no set up, no tension, no character growth. There was also no romance, but that's a different issue. The characters read more like brother and sister than love interests. But back to my first point, everyone automatically understood everything and got on board with the plan despite having no reason to. Where was the depth, the tension, the push and pull?
Nolan is a zamboni driver for the Sea Lions. Zena is the daughter of the owner of the Sea Lions. When Mr. Dalton wanted Nolan to date his daughter, he was skeptical. Mr. Dalton had to just hired Mitch, Zena's ex boyfriend to play. Will Nolan and Zena hit it off for real or will Mitch still Zena away?
This book was so refreshingly funny! I love when a book has a cutesy storyline, has a plot but also has humour and keeps it fast paced. I really enjoyed reading this book although I did find some parts quite unbelievable… ignoring that though I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone wanting a good laugh!
Well, do I love a hockey romance or what? This book was such a unique spin on a hockey romance! Instead of it being about a player, it was about the Zamboni driver and the owner's daughter. They team up to fake date to make a new player jealous (hopefully improving his game through jealousy), I mean, what could go wrong? Lots, apparently. I loved that both characters were in on the scheme to start, and the fake dating did not last very long. Their chemistry was off the charts!
I loved that Nolan was such a sweet man, that had really developed who he was in adulthood even after losing his dream of being a professional hockey player. I also really liked that Zena was not a "spoiled rich girl" much like the story could have gone. While the fake dating is what brought them together, they really work through sticky situations together as a team throughout the book.
The parents of both characters are so unique and really added a layer of fun to the story.
I think that this book could have been a bit shorter and maybe focused a little less on all of the woes of the side characters, or picked a side character and really just went with their story, but it got a bit overwhelming to have the parents' issues, the professional player's issues, the meet cute of their friends, the team, etc all at once.
Overall a really interesting take on a hockey romance with a HEA of course!
A fake dating romance the story of Zena and Nolan. I thought Nolan was a great character. I liked how it was told from both points of view and the fun along the way.
This book was so good! The cover is absolutely beautiful and the story was so addictive and funny. Would highly recommend!
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the ARC
If you're looking for your next hockey romance, look no further. I've never heard of a faking-dating book where the father asks the boy to date the girl. That's a new one for me and it was really fun. I enjoyed the fake dating trope and thought this was done well. I also love when there's no third act break up. Highly appreciated. More of those please.
I was captured by the cute cover and catchy title for this not so usual hockey romance. If the genre appeals but you’re not up for the high spice levels that lurk beneath the covers of most books about hockey then this one could be for you. Apart from being definitely of the sweet variety, the characters are a pleasant deviation from the norm. MMC Nolan is not a big burly player (although he could have been) but the Zamboni driver. Zena, daughter of the billionaire NHL team owner is also a refreshing character-confident and sassy but not the spoilt brat one might expect given her privileged upbringing. This was a light read, some good banter and slapstick humour but nothing too taxing on the brain.
I've seen books by Rich Amooi floating around and several reader friends talking about them. I've been eyeing them and I think I even have snagged a couple from Amazon but then I didn't read them, even though I've wanted to. Well, I did it! I read one! And I loved it! I laughed out loud so many times! Good thing I wasn't reading it late at night because I probably would have woken up my husband. Seriously, so funny! I'll definitely be picking up more from this author.
I loved Nolan and Zena's fake-dating relationship, that doesn't stay fake. These two are fire! I loved how real and open they were, especially considering the situation that they find themselves in. They just made me smile so much. Watching them work through all of the challenges, hiccups and fun that comes their way was a delight! They are a cute couple and I loved their story!
Content: There are several kisses throughout. The characters do share a hotel room/bed together. Nothing occurs between them but they make another hockey player think they are sleeping together. There's another scene where the main characters walk in on her parents being amorous and skin is showing. There are some innuendos. Some talk of drinking.
I received a copy from Victory Editing Co-Op via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
Happy Reading!!!
I picked this book because I absolutely love the title and read it because it is a sweet and sexy, laugh out loud romance that left me with a Zamboni sized smile on my face. Kudos to you Rich Amooi for writing fantastic characters with big hearts. I enjoyed everything about Nolan and Zena’s “pretend” relationship especially the fact that there was absolutely nothing fake about it. Truly a fantastic couple that left me wanting more. This was my first romcom by this author and will certainly not be my last. Highly recommend. I’m giving ICE ICE MAYBE the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval, TBR & Enjoy!
This was a great hockey romance, especially if you love sports themed romance books. The chemistry between Nolan & Xena was fire and I couldn’t enjoy the witty banter between the two more than I thought I would! Very cute read and would make a great movie
Clean, funny, witty, and more!
What do you get when you make a zamboni driver and a billionares daughter fake date? A jealous ex, amazing families, and a quirky story!
However, this isn't your typical miscommunication. Does he / does she book. Nolan and Zena are zero nonsense people. They clearly communicate and work through the messes they make. Their interactions are lively, full of quick witty banter, and so many good one line comebacks.
It's a wonderful, cozy romcom that will have you laughing and pulling for them from chapter one.
This book was such an easy treat, once I started I couldn’t put it down.
What I loved the most was that all the plotlines were interesting and not just the one focusing on the main couple (I loved the story of his parents, her parents, their friends) and the character development for the dad.
One of the best parts of the book was that I could enjoy it without the frustration of miscommunication or unnecessary breakups. Every problem thrown their way was handled in a way that felt satisfying to me, keeping the story engaging but free from the usual angst. It was exactly the kind of feel-good read I needed to shake off my moodiness and get me out of a reading slump. Highly recommend for anyone in need of a heartwarming, uplifting book!
Thank you NetGalley, the publisher and author for providing me this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
This was such an adventurous read! Sometimes I felt like it was a little over the place but still enjoyable! It was a very cute, kisses only, fake dating romcom that kept me hooked from the beginning! I finished it in one day.
I received this free via NetGalley for my honest review
A sweet clean hockey romance with a twist!
I loved that the MMC (Nolan) was the Zamboni driver - and it’s his absolute passion! I really loved reading about how Nolan embraced life after his career ending injury, but rather than escaping the ice he embraced it by being responsible for the smooth surface to prevent any injuries on his ice.
Mr Dalton approaching Nolan to set up a fake dating arrangement with FMC (Zena) was brilliant, and so funny!
I loved how Nolan instantly fell into the role of besotted boyfriend and doted on Zena.
An absolutely heartwarming, comforting, easy read with no miscommunication, third act breakup or spice.
A fun & wacky fake dating romcom.
I read this because the premise sounded wacky and I love wacky sounding romcoms. I was hooked by this right from the start. I really liked the premise and the characters. Plus the romance was super cute.
Would recommend!
