A Fun Read
This is a fun and entertaining read with a mix of mystery and intrigue blended in. I loved the quirky characters, which include a naughty parrot, that added moments of laughter to the story. Although the different characters had their own stories and backgrounds blended in, it was easy to keep up with each one and follow the threads of their stories as they added to the main plot. There are also plenty of great nuggets of information and faith quotes that were a nice touch in the story and had me pausing to reflect more than once. The great characters, the mystery and everything else made this a fun and entertaining read one that should not be missed.
Thank you to NetGalley and Barbour Publishing for providing me with an advanced copy of this book. All comments and opinions are voluntary and completely my own.
I love shows that have to do with baking competitions, and I have never read one that is Amish themed. Sadly, a good majority of the story takes place outside of the competition. There are a number of characters, and it sometimes it felt like there were too many. However, this was an enjoyable story overall. There is a nice mix of Amish and non-Amish characters. It is fun to try and snooze along with them. It was a bit confusing because past cases were referenced, though this is supposed to be the start of the new series. there is a nice mix of mystery, faith, and romance. The pace is a bit slow to beginning, but it picks up as the story unfolds. The ending sets the stage for future books.
Thr Rise and Fall of Miss Fannie's Biscuit is a truly inspiring story written by Wanda Brunstetter and Martga Bolten. I absolutely loved everything about this story from the cover to the epilog. Together these two authors have written a story that readers from all genres can enjoy. The characters are so realistic that they bring this story to life. The storyline moves along at a great pace and never gets boring. There are several lessons to be learned throughout this story.
I did receive an advanced copy of this book to read through Netgalley. All opinions stated are my own and not solicited from anyone.
Congratulations to both Wanda Brunstetter and Martha Bolton on a truely entertaining story for readers.
As someone who has been a longtime fan of cozy mysteries, I love that more and more of these titles are starting to pop up within the Christian and/or Amish fiction genres. This one sounded like a sweet delight, and I couldn't wait to give it a try.
Set around a baking contest taking place in Amish country, The Rise and Fall of Miss Fannie's Biscuits takes readers on a worldwide journey where our female protagonist isn't only trying to win a baking contest with her mouth watering biscuits, but also trying to help the town's private eye solve the mystery surrounding suspicious activity around the contest. With plenty of good natured hijinks abounding, Wanda E Brunstetter's telltale storytelling, and a unique plot that sets up sequels pretty wonderfully, I ended up wholeheartedly enjoying this fun title, and would definitely find myself recommending.
Unfortunately, it did fall a little short of the five star reading I was hoping for, however. I thought there were too many characters, and it was often hard to keep track of who was who, and I found that this muddled the story a bit. I also found the mystery part to be lackluster, and the ending was kind of anticlimactic. It also would have been nice if the baking contest it self had been a bit more front and center, as most of the story takes place away from the contest itself.
Overall though this was a cute and heartwarming read, and I really adored both Fannie and Foster. I loved her big heart for the world around her, and his quest to see justice served at all costs.
Final Rating: 4/5.
I'd definitely recommend this one to anyone who is a fan of Amish fiction and/or clean and cute mysteries.
Thanks so much to Barbour for allowing me to advance read and review this title!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance reader copy of this novel from the publisher (Barbour) via NetGalley. I was not required to give a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own, and this is my honest review.
This is a fun read from Wanda Brunstetter. Set in Amish country, this book centers around the baking contest that has everyone abuzz. Fannie wants to enter her biscuit recipe that her Aunt Selma passed down to her. The prize for 1st place is a check for $25,000.00! When contestants start disappearing, Fannie turns to her good friend Foster who is a retired cop from Chicago that moved to Amish country and opened a private investigation business. They put their heads together and take on this case to see what is happening to the baking contest contestants and to track down who is sending various people threatening notes, including Fannie and Foster. They encounter a lot of dead ends in trying to solve this mystery. As the contest gets closer to the final bakeoff, many of the missing contestants are "found" unharmed and the mystery of the threatening notes is solved. Who will win the baking contest and the prize money? You'll need to purchase this book and find out. It releases on January 1, 2025. I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review. #netgalley #barbourpublishing
Cute story. A mystery in the Amish community has bakers on edge during a baking contest. I enjoyed reading this story. I received a complimentary copy of the book. No review was required.
This was a very cute and warm-hearted cozy mystery. This story will fit right into your cozy, Christian fiction Ahmed and give you a some happy reading hours. I’m very interested to see what these authors do with this series. I give this book 5 stars.
Readers who like cozy mysteries will envoy the light-hearted humor in this story. Miss Fanny teams up with Foster to find the missing contestants of the baking competition. It takes awhile to get into the heart of story but once in readers will enjoy the humor. Lots of characters to keep up with and as much of the actual competition. The biscuit recipe is included which will please some readers.
Mystery solved! This book is different in many ways from others I have read by Wanda E. Brunstetter. I
still found it very engaging and an enjoyable read. Fannie is Amish and has entered the Tuscarawas and surrounding counties baking contest for years. This year there is a large grand prize. As contestants begin to disappear Fannie partners with PI Foster Bates to solve the mystery. The answer to the mystery is a bit of a surprise and the ending is definitely a big surprise.
I received an advance copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
This was a fun cozy mystery. It had some serious moments, but it also had some humor. There was a little bit of romance; I'm not sure if anything is going to come of it. The only thing that I didn't like was the ending.
Most of this book takes place outside of the cooking competition, which was a bit of a disappointment for me. The mystery and suspense were a bit lacking as well. I enjoyed the relationship between Foster and Fannie but there were a lot of characters to keep track of.
Thanks to netgalley and Barbour Publishing for the arc. The opinions are my own.
Wanda Brunstetter and Martha Bolton Are a good team at writing Amish mysteries. Both being wonderful authors in their own right. You will really enjoy this cozy mystery,The Rise and fall of Miss Fannie’s Biscuits.
A baking contest is being held in Sugar Creek. Fannie Miller has been trying for years with no success, to win the contest. This year should be different because she is entering her famous biscuits recipe, But first, she and her private detective friend, Foster Bates, have to solve the case of the missing contestant.
The characters are realistic and all have special elements of their own. The storyline is is interesting and moves along at a good pace.
Thank you Barbour Publishing for allowing me to read an ARC of this cute mystery. I recommend reading this book. All options are my own, and I was not ask to give a positive review.
Wanda Brunstetter and Martha Bolton have teamed up to write this cute and humorous cozy mystery for their readers. The cozy takes place in Sugar Creek Ohio and the story weaves itself around a baking/cooking contest for Tuscarawas and surrounding counties. The event is to be held in the Sugar Creek Carlisle Inn. The winner of this contest will receive a check for $25,000. Our main character Fannie Miller hopes to win this contest. Every year she has entered but never did make the finals. This year it will be different because she intends to enter her Aunt Selma’s biscuit recipe that Fannie has learned to make almost as well as her late Aunt did. But Fannie isn’t the only one that hopes to win this contest. The Bluster, or excuse me I should say Beiler Sisters from the local bake shop plans to bake a Deviled chocolate cake. Then there’s Michael and Melissa Taylor who are hoping to save their failing marriage by joining together in this baking contest and entering their wedding cookies. Others of course have signed up too but when contestants start to disappear Fannie seeks the help of her reluctant friend Foster Bates who happens to be a retired cop from the Chicago police Department. Now in his retirement years he has set up an office and is a Detective. Can Fannie and Foster solve the case of the missing contestants and find them before someone turns up dead? Would someone kidnap the missing contestants in hopes of getting rid of the contest competition?
I am especially drawn to this book because my husband and I love Sugar Creek Ohio and have stayed at the Carlisle Inn there on more than one occasion. I love shopping at the Dutch Valley complex. I think it makes the story more interesting when you are familiar with the location of the story. The humor was a plus for me and I enjoyed the mystery part of it also. I hope there will be more books about this Sleuthing friendly couple. Foster is English and Fannie is Amish.
I highly recommend this cozy to mystery book readers. If you like Amish fiction with a side of humor you will like this book. How could you go wrong with a book written by Wanda Brunstetter and Martha Bolton? This book is scheduled for release on 1/1/25.
I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions expressed here in this review are entirely my own.

As always I love Brunstetter's novels and this one was no exception.
I really enjoyed this one because of the mystery part of the story. Where were the people disappearing to? This was what kept me turning the pages.
I finished this one in one day it was sooooo good.
I loved Fannie. She's funny and adorable. She's also very competitive which made her an interesting character.
5 stars from me as always. I highly recommend.
My thanks for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.
It has a very interesting ending!!..I like also that It is a CLEAN Amish story, without dark scenes and inmoral topic.
I enjoyed reading this cute, cozy mystery. When baking contestants start disappearing, Miss Fannie and PI Foster try to figure out whodunit! Who has the most to gain or lose when there is a $25,000 prize? They can’t seem to narrow it down. Can you figure it out? There is light-hearted humor, some tougher subjects, a little Amish faith and lots of mystery going on, with surprises along the way too! There have been other cases these two have worked on in the past, but this can be read as a stand-alone. I received a complimentary copy of this e-book courtesy of Barbour Publishing through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I received an ARC through net galley to honestly read and review this book.
It took me a while to get into this book. I was confused at the beginning and had to double check to make sure this book wasn't in a series. Miss Fannie and Foster refer to past cases they had solved and it left me with so many questions. Also the crime happened off page and the first you hear of it is in Foster's office. Once you get past that though the story picks you and gets your attention. I even found myself laughing audibly at times. I enjoyed my time with this book and didn't mind how the crime was eventually "solved". The ending even brought a tear to my eyes. I enjoyed seeing growth and repentance in some of the characters. While this wasn't a favorite in would still recommend it you want a sweet and wholesome read.
This was I felt like a little different than the ones Wanda writes. It had mystery in it and a little romance, but not my favorite in her books. It was good, but I definitely have others that are more my favorite.
The Rise and Fall of Miss Fannie’s Biscuits is a light hearted mystery. Fannie Miller wants to win the annual baking contest that she has entered for years in Tuscarawa’s county. After the contestants seem to disappear and people are getting anonymous threatening notes, Fannie goes to Foster Bates, a retired cop running a detective agency. Let the sleuthing begin. I wasn’t sure if this was the first book or I missed others because of the references to them working and solving other mysteries together. I looked but didn’t see any others. I thought it was good but disappointed in the ending. Thank you NetGalley, the authors and Barbour Publishing for this ARC book. This review is mine alone.
miss fannie brings a delightful mix of charm and mystery to the table, perfect for cozying up with on a lazy day. it’s a lighthearted, fun read with endearing characters that kept me smiling. the story is clever and cute, making it a great escape when you need something less serious. while there were some moments where the pace felt slow and a few details seemed repetitive, the overall charm won me over. for those who appreciate a touch of whimsy in a mystery, this one’s worth a try!
