If you like cozy mysteries, “The Rise and Fall of Miss Fannie’s Biscuits” is for you. Fannie Miller enters a baking competition. She moves on to the next round but some of the other contestants start disappearing! Fannie teams up with Private Detective Foster Bates to figure out what happened!
I enjoyed the banter between Fannie and Foster. The story mentioned that they worked on previous cases, including finding a stolen baby. I thought I was missing a book in the series. After some research, I realized this storyline was based on “The Daughters of Lancaster County” series. The play “Stolen” was based on the story. Now o have to read that series, but good thing I have it on my bookshelf already.
I noticed that Wanda Brunstetter wrote the book with Martha Bolton. I think the story was more consistent with some of her other works. I hope there are more books in this series! Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

A cute cozy mystery with both Amish and Englisch people as main characters! There's an interesting variety of personalities in this story. I don't read a lot of Amish fiction, but when I do, I like it to have a mystery. This one also has happy endings for several characters, which is nice!!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance e-copy of this book! All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

I love Wanda's books. The background you get into Amish life is amazing and her storytelling is fantastic. Fannie and Foster were made for each other.

The Rise and Fall of Miss Fannie’s Biscuits was quite different from any other Wanda Brunstetter book. Its main character, Fannie, loves to read mysteries and her best friend, Foster, is a retired policeman. Fannie gets herself involved in this mystery when people start disappearing from the baking contest. The whole story is pretty light and entertaining. I really liked Fannie and Foster. The ending was sweet. Foster’s addiction to cinnamon rolls and repeated references made me crave cinnamon rolls. Overall, I really enjoyed the book and would definitely read more if this series were to continue.

IMay Contain spoilers:

f you like cozy mysteries with a sweet ending, you will like this book. There is no blood or gore, and no murders in this book. In fact if you get right down to it, there is NO mystery at all. All just misunderstandings. The book was a definite easy cozy read, but there was nothing to try to figure out and no edge of my seat mystery as I love in a cozy mystery.

The characters were sweet, though, and I enjoyed the ease of reading. But the writing and storyline was boring, slow and predictable. I hate to even say that because I wanted to like and enjoy this book so much. But by chapter 5, I was bored out of my mind. And there are 35 chapters and an epilogue to this book.

The best part of the book is the last page where you get the recipe for Fannie's famous buttermilk biscuits.

The Rise and Fall of Miss Fannie’s Biscuits by Wanda E. Brunstetter and Martha Bolton is a lighthearted Amish cozy mystery. I was looking forward to this story because it combines two things that I enjoy, which are baking competitions and a mystery. I like that the story has Amish, Mennonite, and English characters. I did struggle in the beginning as the point of view switched between the various characters. I would have liked the two main characters, Miss Fannie and Foster to have been more developed. The story references a previous case that Fannie and Foster had worked on together, but this is the first book to feature these characters (I could not find another book that with Fannie and Foster). Fannie’s mystery was a letdown. I kept hoping it would develop into something more, but it did not. There is a hint of romance in the story. I enjoyed the interactions between Fannie and Foster. I did feel the story was too long (thirty-five chapters plus the epilogue) with repetitive details and it was predictable. The recipe for Miss Fannie’s mouthwatering biscuits is at the end of the book. The Rise and Fall of Miss Fannie’s Biscuits had a cute ending.

Who knew a baking contest could come with a side of mystery and just the right dash of mischief? The Rise and Fall of Miss Fannie’s Biscuits is the kind of cozy read that feels like slipping into a warm kitchen, where something delicious (and maybe a little dangerous) is always in the works.

Fannie Miller’s biscuits are legendary, but it’s her knack for stumbling into trouble that steals the show. When contestants start vanishing faster than a tray of free samples, Fannie ropes in her friend Foster—because what’s a little mystery between friends, right?

This story wrapped around me like the scent of fresh bread, comforting and familiar. I laughed, I craved biscuits, and I felt right at home in the charming, small-town chaos. Sometimes, a lighthearted mystery with heart is exactly what you need.

If you’re craving a cozy escape, The Rise and Fall of Miss Fannie’s Biscuits is the perfect treat—just be sure to have a biscuit (or two) within reach!

The Rise and Fall of Miss Fannie’s Biscuits by Wanda E.Brunstetter, Martha Bolton
A Cozy Amish Mystery
Why Are Baking Contestants Disappearing?
Mysteries have a way of following Fannie Miller, so when she makes it into the finals of the Tuscarawas County Baking Contest and contestants start disappearing, she calls on her old friend Foster Bates, a retired cop and part-time private investigator. Could it be that other finalists are somehow responsible for these disappearances, thinning out the competition? Like the couple on verge of divorce who need the prize money, or the three Beiler sisters, always in a huddle whispering. One thing is for certain—Foster and Fannie will stay on the case until the end, and everyone involved will have learned something important about baking contests, solving mysteries, and life.
New York Times Bestselling Author Wanda E. Brunstetter and Emmy-Nominated Author Martha Bolton have teamed up to deliver a delightful whodunit from Ohio’s Amish country.

A Fun Read

This is a fun and entertaining read with a mix of mystery and intrigue blended in. I loved the quirky characters, which include a naughty parrot, that added moments of laughter to the story. Although the different characters had their own stories and backgrounds blended in, it was easy to keep up with each one and follow the threads of their stories as they added to the main plot. There are also plenty of great nuggets of information and faith quotes that were a nice touch in the story and had me pausing to reflect more than once. The great characters, the mystery and everything else made this a fun and entertaining read one that should not be missed.

Thank you to NetGalley and Barbour Publishing for providing me with an advanced copy of this book. All comments and opinions are voluntary and completely my own.

I love shows that have to do with baking competitions, and I have never read one that is Amish themed. Sadly, a good majority of the story takes place outside of the competition. There are a number of characters, and it sometimes it felt like there were too many. However, this was an enjoyable story overall. There is a nice mix of Amish and non-Amish characters. It is fun to try and snooze along with them. It was a bit confusing because past cases were referenced, though this is supposed to be the start of the new series. there is a nice mix of mystery, faith, and romance. The pace is a bit slow to beginning, but it picks up as the story unfolds. The ending sets the stage for future books.

Thr Rise and Fall of Miss Fannie's Biscuit is a truly inspiring story written by Wanda Brunstetter and Martga Bolten. I absolutely loved everything about this story from the cover to the epilog. Together these two authors have written a story that readers from all genres can enjoy. The characters are so realistic that they bring this story to life. The storyline moves along at a great pace and never gets boring. There are several lessons to be learned throughout this story.

I did receive an advanced copy of this book to read through Netgalley. All opinions stated are my own and not solicited from anyone.

Congratulations to both Wanda Brunstetter and Martha Bolton on a truely entertaining story for readers.

As someone who has been a longtime fan of cozy mysteries, I love that more and more of these titles are starting to pop up within the Christian and/or Amish fiction genres. This one sounded like a sweet delight, and I couldn't wait to give it a try.

Set around a baking contest taking place in Amish country, The Rise and Fall of Miss Fannie's Biscuits takes readers on a worldwide journey where our female protagonist isn't only trying to win a baking contest with her mouth watering biscuits, but also trying to help the town's private eye solve the mystery surrounding suspicious activity around the contest. With plenty of good natured hijinks abounding, Wanda E Brunstetter's telltale storytelling, and a unique plot that sets up sequels pretty wonderfully, I ended up wholeheartedly enjoying this fun title, and would definitely find myself recommending.

Unfortunately, it did fall a little short of the five star reading I was hoping for, however. I thought there were too many characters, and it was often hard to keep track of who was who, and I found that this muddled the story a bit. I also found the mystery part to be lackluster, and the ending was kind of anticlimactic. It also would have been nice if the baking contest it self had been a bit more front and center, as most of the story takes place away from the contest itself.

Overall though this was a cute and heartwarming read, and I really adored both Fannie and Foster. I loved her big heart for the world around her, and his quest to see justice served at all costs.

Final Rating: 4/5.

I'd definitely recommend this one to anyone who is a fan of Amish fiction and/or clean and cute mysteries.

Thanks so much to Barbour for allowing me to advance read and review this title!

This is a fun read from Wanda Brunstetter. Set in Amish country, this book centers around the baking contest that has everyone abuzz. Fannie wants to enter her biscuit recipe that her Aunt Selma passed down to her. The prize for 1st place is a check for $25,000.00! When contestants start disappearing, Fannie turns to her good friend Foster who is a retired cop from Chicago that moved to Amish country and opened a private investigation business. They put their heads together and take on this case to see what is happening to the baking contest contestants and to track down who is sending various people threatening notes, including Fannie and Foster. They encounter a lot of dead ends in trying to solve this mystery. As the contest gets closer to the final bakeoff, many of the missing contestants are "found" unharmed and the mystery of the threatening notes is solved. Who will win the baking contest and the prize money? You'll need to purchase this book and find out. It releases on January 1, 2025. I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review. #netgalley #barbourpublishing

Readers who like cozy mysteries will envoy the light-hearted humor in this story. Miss Fanny teams up with Foster to find the missing contestants of the baking competition. It takes awhile to get into the heart of story but once in readers will enjoy the humor. Lots of characters to keep up with and as much of the actual competition. The biscuit recipe is included which will please some readers.

Mystery solved! This book is different in many ways from others I have read by Wanda E. Brunstetter. I
still found it very engaging and an enjoyable read. Fannie is Amish and has entered the Tuscarawas and surrounding counties baking contest for years. This year there is a large grand prize. As contestants begin to disappear Fannie partners with PI Foster Bates to solve the mystery. The answer to the mystery is a bit of a surprise and the ending is definitely a big surprise.
I received an advance copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

This was a fun cozy mystery. It had some serious moments, but it also had some humor. There was a little bit of romance; I'm not sure if anything is going to come of it. The only thing that I didn't like was the ending.

Most of this book takes place outside of the cooking competition, which was a bit of a disappointment for me. The mystery and suspense were a bit lacking as well. I enjoyed the relationship between Foster and Fannie but there were a lot of characters to keep track of.

Thanks to netgalley and Barbour Publishing for the arc. The opinions are my own.

Wanda Brunstetter and Martha Bolton Are a good team at writing Amish mysteries. Both being wonderful authors in their own right. You will really enjoy this cozy mystery,The Rise and fall of Miss Fannie’s Biscuits.
A baking contest is being held in Sugar Creek. Fannie Miller has been trying for years with no success, to win the contest. This year should be different because she is entering her famous biscuits recipe, But first, she and her private detective friend, Foster Bates, have to solve the case of the missing contestant.
The characters are realistic and all have special elements of their own. The storyline is is interesting and moves along at a good pace.
