I read this book with my 9 and 7 year old girls and they both enjoyed it. A fun and quirky with fun historical ties.
Nina is off to a rough start in middle school - one of her best friends, Zoe, isn't talking to her and the other, Maya, seems like she is going to lose the school election she really wants to win. On top of that, it seems like her moms might be getting divorced. Things take a turn though when she writes a letter to Cleopatra as part of detention. She puts it in a random mailbox and thinks nothing of it until she gets a letter back from Cleopatra with advice on Maya's campaign. As she and Maya try to figure out what is going on, they learn more about being a good friend.
I thought this was a quick and easy read! I loved all the themes it talked about because I think they are really important issues that kids this age can face. I think the author did a good job navigating them and creating empathetic characters. I'm not surprised though because I love all the Rebel Girl books I've read! I'm intrigued to see if they will do more fiction books because I enjoyed it a lot!
I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is such a fun concept. I loved the "going through time" and being pen pals with Cleopatra. I look forward to other books in this series.
I think middle graders will like this one a lot.
Thanks NetGalley for this ARC.
This was a great concept for a children’s fiction novel, it had that concept that I was looking for and enjoyed how it worked. It was a strong entry in the Secret Society of Rebel Girls and had that writing style that I was looking for from Marti Dumas.
