Ellie's, best friend, Carla, has been missing for 12 years. Now she's engaged to Carla's brother, Nick, and thrilled when she learns Carla is finally coming home. But she starts to have doubts that this is really Carla. Who is this woman then and where is Carla?
Ellie is finding it hard to convince everyone this is not Carla. Carla is working on discrediting Ellie at every chance she gets. I was really believing Ellie myself, but then Carla was really making her sound unreliable, so I didn’t know who to believe. I like when thrillers mess with me like that.
Overall, the plot is not necessarily new, but it was fast paced and I really liked the ending that took me by surprise.
Side note ~ may I ask what was with all of the tongue clicking? Is that something one does and talks about in England because I’ve never heard it in the US?
Narration notes:
She did a pretty good job.
ARC audiobook provided in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed Jodie Harris’s narration on this book! She seamlessly covers all the characters, both male and female, and was always clear and concise. The story was interesting and held my attention throughout, though at times I found it a bit predictable. There were some big twists at the end that I didn’t see coming. All in all, a very enjoyable read. I would recommend to anyone who likes psychological thrillers and mysteries!
Thanks to Netgalley, Nicola Sanders, and Dreamscape Media for an ARC in return for an honest review.
Imagine your best friend disappeared when you were 16, and 12 years later, she shows up like nothing happened. Everyone seems so excited that she's home, but something doesn't seem right about her.
This domestic thriller was so twisty, I thought I figured it out the plot multiple times, but I was always wrong. This book is very fast-paced, and I couldn't put it down. I feel like fans of Frieda McFadden would especially enjoy this book.
I listened to the audiobook, which was brilliantly narrated by Jodie Harris. She had all the characters' voices down, and she was very easy to listen to.
I highly recommend this book, and I definitely think everyone should check it out when it comes out October 15th!
A twist at the end you'll never see coming. The way the narrator told this story had me on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what will happen.
Can you imagine looking for your missing childhood best friend for decades only for her to finally show up at your door? Everyone is so happy to see her, so happy she is home. There is only one problem. You know it isn’t her. And no one will believe you.
This is my favorite from @nicolasanders. This was exciting and fun and I couldn’t stop reading it.
Thank you so much to @netgalley and @dreamscapemedia for providing me with the advanced audible copy in exchange for an honest review.
What a ride! Ellie has never given up hope that her missing best friend from school, Carla, will be found, and even though everyone else has given up searching, Ellie refuses to accept that Carla is gone forever.
After returning to her hometown for her fathers funeral, Ellie meets Carla's brother, who she had a crush on years before and finds that there is a definite spark there, for them both. And then to make everything perfect, Carla is found safe and well. Everyone is overjoyed, except Ellie. She knows this isn't Carla, but nobody believes her and everything she thought she knew is brought into question. They were so close, yet Carla's mother tells Ellie that Carla hated her!
As Ellie searches for the truth, there are twists and red herrings at every turn and I was absolutely gripped! When the truth came out about who the fake Carla really is, I was stunned! The action doesn't let up right to the end! Brilliant!
I listened to the audiobook which was brilliantly narrated by Jodie Harris.
5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Nicola Sanders and Dreamscape Media for an ARC in return for an honest review.
What would you do if your best friend one day vanished and never returned after multiple efforts throughout the years to just find her?
Many years later Ellie is living at her best friend’s house with her best friend’s mother and brother when suddenly Carla returns back to her life. Everyone but Ellie seems thrilled because no one can see that the stranger in-front of them is not Carla.
This story gripped me instantly and I thought I had it figured out multiple times only for me to be wrong. I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed the narration as it kept me engaged throughout the duration of the thriller. I recommend this fast past thriller to anyone that enjoys to figure out mysteries and be surprised.
Thanks Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for allowing to listen to the ALC!
There were a few times when I was reading this that I thought I guessed the twists but I was still shocked. 😳 The ending was good, the characters were interesting and the narration was great.
I really enjoyed this twisted, unpredictable and dark thriller!!
Ellie’s friend Carla disappears when they were 16 years old. Ellie never stops searching for her. Fast forward 12 years - Ellie’s engaged to Carla’s brother Nick and they are living with his mother Marjorie. One day Marjorie says that she’s received a post card from Carla saying that she is coming home for a visit.
Ellie is convinced it’s not Carla but no one believes her.
Every time I thought I had it all figured out another twist would emerge. Very fast paced read and would recommend!

Don't Believe Her on audio was a solid domestic thriller that pulled me in from the beginning, and had me guessing to the end. The plot, in brief, includes adult Ellie, mom and fiance to Nick is initially thrilled when Nick's sister, and her childhood best friend, reappears after being missing for a dozen years. But is it her? Well done audio narration moved the story right along, and was super impressive that a single narrator had enough skill to make me think there were multiple people speaking the story. Good job Jodie Harris.
My only tiny complaint is there was no real hero character. None of them were truly likable and, as a reader, that makes it harder to stay invested in the final outcome.
Listened to it in one day, and happy to recommend.

Ellie believes her life is finally in order: she has an adorable daughter Karly who is six years-old. Additionally engaged to Nick whom she has secretly had a crush on for years,
Nick is the brother of her Ellie’s best friend Carla who went missing twelve years ago.
When Nick, announces Carla is finally coming home, Ellie is truly excited.
Carla ran away when she was sixteen; no one has seen her since.
However, when Ellie meets Carla she did expect a change from when she was a teen but Ellie is surprise when her friend doesn’t have the same memories. Ellie fears the woman claiming to be Carla isn't actually her!
As time goes on and “Fake Carla” seems to fit in she isn’t nice to Ellie.
Ellie and Nick are living in his mother Marjorie’s home as she needs assistance. Marjorie is thrilled with her daughter Carla returning. When Ellie states Carla does seem the same. Marjorie tells her that Carla didn’t see their friendship same way and states she really did not like Ellie and thought she wouldn’t leave her alone. Ellie is shocked by this.
Ellie keeps insisting that this Carla is a fake however, no one believes Ellie! They think she has come unhinged and needs therapy.
The audiobook narrator did a great job in performing the character – true I wanted to put a gag over Ellie’s mouth to get her to stop screaming!
Although I was somewhat sure I knew where this story was going, Of course I was wrong!!
Story turned out to be a wild ride and well worth hearing Ellie’s screams!
Want to thank NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this early audiobook.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for October 15, 2024.

This novel exceeded all my expectations by leaps and bounds. I had read Don't Let Her Stay, and while I enjoyed it, it wasn't as captivating as this book. From the minute I pressed play, I was completely engaged and ended up listening to the whole book in one sitting. It has everything you could want from a psychological thriller and more.
There is intrigue and intensity. The plot twists actually gave shock value, and it kept me guessing until the end.
The pacing was perfect as the tension built throughout the novel.
Ellie was a strong FMC, and I was so frustrated for her. I kept hoping someone would eventually believe her story and help her.
Jodie Harris was a wonderful narrator and took the story to another level with voicing of all the characters. The atmosphere and eerie feel were enhanced by listening to this audiobook.
It was a fun, twisted read filled with lies and deception and a satisfying ending. Those who love Freida McFadden's work will definitely enjoy this book.
Thank you to the author, Netgally, and Dreamscape Media for my gifted copy. My review was voluntary.
I couldn’t put this one down and finished it in a day. What a ride! My head is still spinning from all the twists! Perfect psychological suspense. Narration was very good as well.
This book was great, the twists and turns never stopped. It always kept me on my feet. The characters were fun to get to know and I thought the ending was well written.
This was a wild, twisted, unpredictable ride! Every time I thought I knew where the story was going, it immediately went in a direction I never expected.i really enjoyed the story and I will be recommending it.
Wow, this book totally blew me away! Ellie’s best friend Carla disappeared years ago, and now Ellie is engaged to Carla’s brother, Nick, and living with their mom, Marjorie. Ellie has always been convinced that Carla is dead, but Nick’s been secretly working with a private investigator to find her—and guess what? They do! Through a Facebook post, of all things. When Carla finally returns, she’s this stunning, glamorous version of herself, claiming she’s been living a fabulous life in Paris all these years… but there’s something off. The Carla I knew isn’t the Carla who came back. Could it really be her? And if it’s not… who is this woman?
This book had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. It’s one of those stories that messes with your head in the best possible way. Just when I thought I knew where it was headed, I’d be thrown completely off-track. I found myself doubting what I believed over and over again. It’s one of those rare thrillers where the author leads you to think one thing and then bam, everything changes at the very last moment. I LOVE surprise endings, and this one did not disappoint!
The pacing was fantastic, and I loved how the tension kept building and building. The characters felt so real, too. I couldn’t help but put myself in Ellie’s shoes, wondering how I’d feel and what I’d do if I were in her position.
Also, a shout-out to Jodie Harris for her incredible narration of the audiobook. Her voice added so much depth and intensity to the story that I felt every twist and turn even more deeply. It made the whole experience so much more gripping.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
When Ellie's long-lost friend Carla reappears decades after running away from home, Ellie is excited. .... until she actually sees her and realizes that woman who has returned isn't Carla. As children growing up, Ellie are Carla were inseparable. Now, years later when Carla returns, the situation is surprising for both of them: Ellie has spent the years Carla has been missing growing up, having a baby, and then returning to their hometown and falling in love with Carla's brother, Nick. Ellie's even moved in with Nick and mom, Marjorie, to help her recover from a fall. It should be the dream; your best friend about to become your sister-in-law......except that Ellie is convinced the woman before isn't Carla.
I really enjoyed this one! The situation was such a good set up for a maddening situation. If you have siblings, you can see it from both sides: I am 100% confident I would recognize my best friend a an imposter anywhere, anytime, no matter what anyone said.... BUT if someone tried to convince me I didn't know my own sister I would laugh at them. Of COURSE I would know my own sister better than anyone, even her best friend. It was just a really brilliant set up. The second half was also stellar, providing a potential explanation and veering off into a crazy story with tons of twists and turns while managing to avoid becoming convoluted. Absolutely just loved it all around. Highly recommended!
Wow! Another fantastic read by Nicola Sanders. I totally enjoyed this domestic thriller. Great cast of characters that kept me flipping pages long into the night. It was a roller coaster ride and made it impossible to know who to trust. Lots of tension, suspense and big creep factor. Enjoyed the narration.
Thank you NetGalley, Nicola Sanders and Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I had high hopes and thought I was going to love this book, but the FMC was so insufferable. The first half of the book seemed to drag on forever with all the action happening at the end.
