Thanks so much to Kristy Boyce and Random House Children's | Delacorte Romance for the eARC of this title. This is the second book in the Series. I loved Quinn and Logan! Quick cute read. Can’t recommend enough
The way I zoomed through this one in less than 24 hours. It was fun, unique, and h D&D aspects made it really stand out.
Wedlock he FMC Quinn as she starts at a new school, looking to make friends. She finds a D&D group and quickly develops tension with one of the members. Logan very clearly doesn’t want her to join the party, is it because of dislike or because this group has a strict no dating other members rule? Quinn and Logan are constantly being thrown together, mostly by Quinn’s grandma (ily grandma. The true mvp of the story).
Look I said, I flew through this one. I had a great time! But there were so many moments when everything was a little too dramatic considering the stakes. Which perfectly describes a teenage experience. It really is a great YA story. I actually found user wanting more from them playingD&D, which is not like me but the author did a great job with making this D&D newbie super interested!
No one likes to be the “new” kid, especially when transferring to a new high school in the middle of the February. Quinn is definitely not an exception to this experience. Rather shy and quiet, Quinn’s goal is to find a sense of community and friends. With the help of a glamorous grandmother, whether she wants said help or not, hopefully that goal can be achieved. One day after school while looking for clubs to join, she strikes up a conversation with Kashvi. Kashvi extends an invitation to join her Dungeons and Dragons group. Quinn, who desperately wants to get back into playing, with a less toxic group of players than her last is nervous yet terrified. I LOVE KASHVI!! The twins energy in general is just so fun, and the dynamic of when they play together during the campaign is hilarious. Although trouble arises after finding out the group has strict rules about dating within the group. Logan, another player and Quinn have an instant spark that does not burn out. They try to fight against the feelings but nothing slows them down. I also love the aspect of how they live stream their sessions, I don’t particularly watch D&D campaigns but I was obsessed with Dungeons and Daddies for a long time. Overall this book is super cute and fun!

Dnd is a cheat code to my heart but beyond that this book was just perfectly angsty and absolutely adorable! If you’re wondering if Kristy Boyce can create magic again, she absolutely can!
Quinn moves to a new high school and joins a D&D group in search of friendship, only to discover their strict no-dating rule. As she develops feelings for a charming yet frustrating player and faces drama from her past campaign, she must navigate her loyalties and emotions beyond the game.
Even though I know little about Dungeons & Dragons, this book was a fun read. I really enjoy Kristy Boyce’s writing, but I could have done without the characters referring to the '80s as ancient. ::panics in midlife crisis: I think Boyce is becoming auto-buy for me though. I know this girl needs a little lighthearted read now and again.
Thanks to NetGalley and Delacorte press for the ARC!
This book has been on of the most heartwarming books I’ve read so far this year. All the characters were likable and relatable, they had their own lives and insecurities and personalities all so defined that everything they did made sense. The main character were so adorable and sweet, by the end of the book I just wanted to hug them. I was so filled with joy with this book that I ran to get Dungeons and Drama (by the same author) just because I wanted to experience that level of joy from a book again.10/10
***Thank you to Netgalley and Delcorte Press for an e-arc copy of Dating and Dragons by Kristy Boyce! All thoughts are my own!***
After moving to a new high school, Quinn is desperate for friends, so she joins a D&D group with their own livestreamed sessions. They have serious rules in place, one being no dating fellow party members.
But when sparks fly with the cute but irritating, Logan, and ex-friends from an old school and campaign start stirring up trouble, she’ll need to figure out where her loyalties—and heart—lie beyond the game.
Dating and Dragons was one of my most anticipated books for 2025, so I'm SO happy I received an advanced copy to review! And even happier that it will be coming out at the end of this year!
I loved everything about this book. The Critical Role reference, the small Dungeons and Drama Easter egg, Quinn's grandma playing matchmaker, the depth of the D&D sessions and the party, the amazing group of friends Quinn joined, the cutest epilogue I have read in a book in a while. This book is probably going to be a comfort read for me, as well as Dungeons and Drama.
Reading a Kristy Boyce D&D book just makes me the happiest reader ever. I hope we get more D&D books in the future. Best believe I will read all of them and probably love them.
Dating and Dragons by Kristy Boyce is available December 31st!
After reading Dungeons and Drama, I was very excited to see that the author was writing more dungeons and dragons themed novels! I was very happy to pick this up, it very much captures the whimsy of DnD while also making it easy to understand for those who have never played. A very sweet romance that will have you giggling and kicking your feet.
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an advance reader’s copy of *Dating and Dragons*. As a fan of Dungeons & Drama, I was thrilled to discover this title and even more delighted by the engaging story it delivered.
The world-building in this book is truly impressive, immersing readers in a vibrant and imaginative setting that feels both familiar and fresh. The romantic tension between Logan and Quinn is skillfully crafted, creating a palpable chemistry that keeps you invested in their journey. I also adored the dynamics within the D&D group; their interactions were lively and relatable, capturing the essence of what makes tabletop gaming so special.
While I would love to dive into my favorite scenes and share specific moments that stood out, I want to respect the fact that this is an ARC and refrain from spoilers. I can’t wait for the book’s official release so I can discuss it in greater detail. Overall, *Dating and Dragons* exceeded my expectations, and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a blend of D&D, romance, and friendship.
To start off thank you Netgalley and Kristy Boyce for the ARC! This book had all the right levels of D&D and romance! I read Dungeons and Drama and I couldn’t put it down. Getting the opportunity to read Dating and Dragons was amazing!! Quinn and Logan are my absolute favorite! But hear me out Grandma over here being the sneaky self she was throughout this book just made it ten times better! If you have a love for role playing games and romance than I would highly recommend this book! It has such a balanced level of both but you also can’t help but fall in love with the characters and how they develop throughout the book!
I've heard so many wonderful things about Dungeons and Drama, so I was really excited to dive into this one.
As someone who's never played D&D before, I was worried I might not connect with the story. But to my surprise, the D&D sessions and all the intricate details drew me right in. However, the romance between Quinn and Logan didn’t quite hit the mark for me. It relied on an insta-love connection, which is usually a challenge for me unless it develops further as the story progresses. Sadly, that build-up wasn’t there, and I struggled to feel much chemistry between them. Their relationship lacked the emotional depth that could have made their connection feel more meaningful to me. The plot itself was also quite predictable, and at times, it felt like not much was happening.
Yet despite these points, the found-family theme really stood out and made the story memorable. The supporting characters brought warmth and depth, especially the hilarious grandma, who added a lot of charm to the story. So, while it wasn’t a perfect read for me, there were moments I really enjoyed, and I’m still interested in reading Dungeons and Drama because so many people seem to love it.
Thank you to Netgalley and Random House Children's - Delacorte Romance for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I'm not into D&D but I love fantasy and a "nerd" romance sounded like a lot of fun. I really enjoyed this book, though near the end I admittedly got irritated with the main characters and wanted to finish it just to see how it ended. To say that I was invested would be an understatement. The book also made D&D sound kind of fun, though I am way too intimidated to try. It will probably have me looking for more D&D themed stories though!
Kristy Boyce is back with her completely bingeable YA romances centered around Dungeons and Dragons! While this is 100% a YA read, there is just something about a D&D group starting a new campaign, teenagers completely being themselves, a meddling grandma, and a budding new romance that just always slaps for me. If you enjoyed Dungeons and Drama, then definitely add this one to your list!
We have a new group of friends, lots of super enjoyable campaign time, and all the emotions that come with being a teenager trying to fit in after a midyear move. I will say while I really enjoy the D&D time in these stories, Quinn’s grandma completely stole the show for me. I could read a whole story about her life alone! The meddling grandma trope (I don’t know if that is a thing, but if it’s not it should be) is one of my all-time favorites. Nothing will make me swoon quite like a love interest that also loves grandmas.
Pick this one up if you like:
-Dungeons and Dragons! We get a lot of on page time explaining the ins and outs of the dynamics of a group as well as get to see some player development and campaign time.
-Loveable Grandmas
-Pickleball
-YA romances. While I know I am not the target audience for this story, I still found it quite enjoyable
-Slow Burn. Our two main characters fight their feelings for most of the story but it plays out nicely!
-Cozy, sweet, bingeable reads
I think I enjoyed Dungeons & Drama more than this D&D installment from Boyce, but it was still a good time for a YA rom-com. The two main characters romantic connection was a little too strong after too little time for my taste, but in the grand scheme of the story, I could ignore it and enjoy it for what it was. I’ll probably pick up Kristy Boyce’s next novel if it’s in the same D&D rom-com vein as these previous two. All in all a fun and light read!
Thank you Delacorte Romance and NetGalley, for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I adored it! I read the first one, Dungeons and Drama, and it was so easy to get into, so when I saw there was a sequel, I instantly wanted to dive in. I loved the slow burn and banter. The rivals-to-lovers vibes were perfect, and the found family trope was terrific. I loved the tie into DND
This was such a cute book! I am thankful to have gotten an eARC for free from Netgalley and Delacorte Romance to enjoy which gave me the opportunity to voluntarily leave a review.
I had read Dungeons and Drama a few months ago when I was looking for a quick read from the library. It pulled me in as both a DND player and theatre director so
It was a perfect fit.
I had assumed this was a sequel when I saw it on NetGalley so I requested it right away only to find out that it’s not connected at all! At first I was a little
Disappointed as it would have been so easy to connect them
but now I ended up enjoying it for its own merit!
I really enjoyed that the author really delved into the playing mechanics of the game. DND is a popular mention right now in books and cinema but it’s just that.. a cheeky mention so it was nice to have a book really delve in while still maintaining its plot goals.
I liked all the summaries between the characters as they are very “real”. It’s definitely a YA book but I think gamers who like romance, especially clean romance of all ages will enjoy this. However, there is a bit too many subplots thrown in and the romance does get a little annoying with the “no dating” rule. The interactions at time are just silly but maybe that’s because they are 16.
The book comes out December 31 2024. So start next year off with a critical success/ Nat 20 and grab yourself a copy!
My rating system since GoodReads doesn’t have partial stars and I rarely round up.
⭐️ Hated it
⭐️⭐️ Had a lot of trouble, prose issues, really not my cup of tea (potentially DNF’d or thought about it)
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Meh, it was an ok read but nothing special
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Really enjoyed it! Would recommend to others
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding! Will circle back and read again
If you thought this would be like Dungeons and Drama you are wrong, but that's not a bad thing. This book is way more heavily DND focused and gets into the game a lot more. It’s cute, but felt really juvenile.
Kristy Boyce returns with another D&D-centric romance, but rather than the fake-dating we saw in the wonderful Dungeons and Drama, we instead are treated to a will-they wont-they romance within a group that has a strict no-dating-group-members rule. . Quinn has just moved towns, leaving behind her school and her ex-friend group after a disastrous date with a guy from her last D&D group. Now, she determined to make a good group of friends and not let anything--not even romantic feelings towards the cute boy she meets on the first day of school--get in her way. Quinn quickly integrates into a new friend group--and their D&D group that they livestream every Saturday. Everything is going great, except for the fact that Logan is there and he admits his growing feelings for Quinn. Add in a spunky grandmother, a cute baby cow, and some fun D&D role-playing, and this romance is a recipe for a great time. Quinn's struggle with working through the pain of her last friend group kicking her out--and the betrayal of her previous best friend--makes Quinn's hesitancy and motivations very understandable and very real. Logan is an all-around sweet guy who loves his friends and family, and he has some very romantic one-liners that would make any girl squeal. On the other hand, his attraction to Quinn did feel a little like insta-love, and I felt the story was lacking in seeing why exactly he liked her from the very beginning, since they almost never interacted at school. There were also a few lines that the author relied on a little too heavily, as I noticed them repeated several times throughout the story (namely, "its as if we were the only two people in the world".
I appreciated that Quinn's family also showed some growth over the course of the story, as they came to show interest and support in Quinn's non-sporty interests. And her brother especially was a character I didn't care for at first, but I kinda warmed up to him by the end. Oh, and the book really made me want pancakes!
Overall, a fun read. I personally enjoyed Dungeons and Drama more, but if you liked that book, or just want a nerdy romance, then this book should hit the spot.
This book was an absolute delight. I love how D&D is really spanning the generations. The book deals with several elements of growing up and being a teen that I felt were handled really well. The romance in this was age appropriate and so sweet. I also love the importance of friendship in this and how that was as big a part of the plot as the romance was.
Cure and mythical, needy and fun absolutely adore this series and need way more of it yesterday also the voice of this author is killer
