In a similar vein to Dungeons and Drama, this book takes unique characters and crafts an equally delightful story. The story is crafted really well. I hope to see these books continue!
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
Quinn Norton hopes to make friends at her new school by joining a D&D group, especially since it includes the charming Logan Weber. But as their playful banter turns into something deeper, Quinn must navigate the group's strict dating rules and decide if she's willing to break them for a chance at love.
This book was just as cute as Dungeons and Drama! I loved Quinn and I thought she was such a fun character. She was quirky in a very endearing way, and I loved her sense of style. Her romance with Logan was so sweet - he sure knows how to make a girl swoon!! Plus their banter was off the charts.
Equally as wonderful was the friend group. I adored them and how quickly Quinn became a part of the game. I loved their vibes. They were such a great group of teens. Not only that - but Quinn’s grandma was fantastic and so funny. I loved how she schemed. I also adored her love of Logan. Quinn’s parents and brother also watching the livestreams had me emotional.
That first kiss was electric!!! I swear I felt it in my bones. It was so sweet and yet full of passion. And that epilogue are you joking!!!! I want another book about the retirement home and teaching them how to play.
Loved it!! Comes out in December so make sure you grab a copy!
this was a sweet and easy read, I was able to binge it in one sitting!
Quinn is the new girl at school and finds herself welcomed into a group of D&D players. there were many moments that made me smile. I loved the family and friend relationships represented and how wonderful they were to Quinn. I really felt like I was part of the group when they would play D&D and having their games live-streamed added such a fun layer to the plot!
this is perfect for fans and lovers of D&D and for anyone who just wants a fun read! at times it felt really juvenile, but seeing as the target audience is YA that fits perfectly.
big thanks to Netgalley for giving me access to the ARC!
this was so cute, cheesy, and sweet. it’s a shorter read and a forbidden ya romance with d&d. quinn’s grandma also a top tier character who brought tons of humor. definitely would recommend.
4⭐️
Pre read: I was drawn to the beautiful cover, even though I knew nothing about Dungeons & Dragons.
This book turned out to be so adorable! I thought I was over YA books, but this one had me giggling and kicking my feet like crazy. I absolutely loved the sweet little moments between the characters, especially with the touch of forbidden romance—it made everything even cuter. The friendships were also such a strong part of the story, and I couldn’t get enough of how genuine they felt. Logan’s love for Quinn was incredibly heartwarming; they would totally be the perfect high school sweethearts. Overall, this book was just a joy to read, and I adored every part of it!
3⭐️: When Quinn’s family moves to be closer to her grandmother, Quinn must make new friends in the middle of the school year. She finds a group of friends to play D&D with who take the game very seriously and have a no dating rule. When sparks fly between her another player, they must fight their feelings to keep the group together.
Kristy Boyce does an amazing job at writing YA romance. I would have devoured this book in high school. Logan and Quinn have some cute moments together that just makes the reader smile. I have never played D&D before but I surprisingly loved the in depth detail of how they were playing the game.
My main issue with this book was too much happening for its length. The grandmother (all though adorable), the descriptions of game play, all of the different friends, and the issues with Quinn’s past D&D group took away from allowing us to see Logan and Quinn’s relationship grow. They really went from instant attraction to saying I love you in no time. I also would have loved to see Quinn stand up for herself with her old friends.
Overall, if you are into YA and D&D, I would recommend this book to you.
This is an incredibly cute book! I love how the story includes an exploration of friendships and important real life issues along with the gaming and romance. The characters are very relatable which makes it easy to fall in love with them. And the story is super fun and sweet. If you like YA romance with humor and heart then this is for you. I highly recommend it!
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House for allowing me to read this book ahead of release in exchange for my honest opinion.
Book Review:
Quinn is a 16-year-old girl who’s family moved in the middle of the school year to be closer to her grandma. Now she must start at a new school and maybe try to make friends? It’s a lot, especially after what happened at her last school and with her last group of friends…
Her sweet grandma is driving her and her younger brother Andrew to their first day of school and insists she must take a picture with them. This is when we first get a glimpse of a fun group of teens who honestly, I would love to be friends with.
One thing leads to another and suddenly Quinn finds herself watching that same group of teens play D&D in a basement on a “trial run” to see if she might want to join their next campaign.
I don’t want to say much more than that because I already feel like I’ve said too much! Trust me though, if you love to be happy and giggling out loud while reading you will enjoy this book. Plus, it’s about D&D and who doesn’t love a good D&D campaign?!
Thank you again to author Kristy Boyce and publisher Delacorte Romance for gifting me an eARC of this wonderful book!
This is literally one of the cutest books I’ve ever read in my life. After loving Dungeons and Drama I was so excited to get an ARC of this one, and it did not disappoint.
Dating and Dragons had the perfect balance of wholesome slow burn romance, gaming, and real teen issues. The plotline with Quinn’s grandmother was well done and relatable and dealt with the real struggles of grandparents getting older. I adored all of the characters, and the dynamics of the d&d group were so fun.
I have zero complaints about this one. It’s the most adorable YA romance with lovable characters and a fast paced and fun plot. Definitely pick it up when it comes out at the end of December!
Review posted on Goodreads and will be on instagram.com/aleciareadsitall soon!
I was thrilled when I got accepted to be an ARC reader for this book. This book was amazing in my opinion. The storyline was very well written. The characters were thoroughly entertaining. I especially loved the FMC's grandma and her dynamic with her granddaughter's friends. This book had me laughing, swooning and tearing up at all the right places. I also love Dungeons and Dragons so getting to read about a group of people who enjoyed it as much as I do was absolutely amazing and so much fun. I can't wait to read more!
4.75/5 stars
This was so stinking adorable! I devoured it in two sittings
I adored the friend group so much. The way they were so supportive of Quinn.
This does read very lower YA and seems to be targeted at younger audiences. But that didn't temper my enjoyment at all.
Its also insta-lovey. Despite the main couple being a bit bickery and putting their feelings aside for the sake of their D&D group's "No dating group members" rule.
The D&D portions were fun, you can tell its something the author is passionate about.
Anyways. I had fun reading this one. I hope we get more cute romances with D&D twists from this author.
I may have only began my D&D journey this past year, but I’ve been on my young adult romance journey for nearly a decade. Dating and Dragons by Kristy Boyce hits all the key points: teen angst, family drama, friend group dynamics, forbidden romance, taboo activities, and a sweet, lovable old lady. The best parts of this book were what Boyce clearly has a passion for: the campaigns and role-playing. The relationships the characters had as a friend group were heartwarming, and their dynamics in-game made the book even more entertaining. However, I found the main relationship between Logan and Quinn to be lacking, especially considering that they really don’t know each other that well outside of D&D. Despite never acting on their mutual attraction, the pair fall head over heels to the point where they consider breaking up their campaign party for a relationship. Perhaps I’m aging out of the YA genre, but this unrealistic and over dramatic situation took me out of the story, and I kept wanting to go back to the campaign (which sounded quite interesting!). Overall an easy and lighthearted read for fans of Twelfth Knight, Dungeons and Drama, and KL Walther romcoms.
This book was cute! I love all the nerdy things and people who embrace it so it was fun. It’s a book my younger self would have loved and gotten much value from. I think maybe I’m a little older than the target audience, which isn’t the authors fault, but that did dampen my enjoyment a little. I got a little bored at parts but I think that’s me, not the book! Overall, cute for YA audiences!
3.5 stars rounded up.
This was a fun read but I felt like at times it was trying to do too much all at once. I liked the main friend group and the pairing between Paige and Logan was cute, but I don't know if the plot needed to have the 'no dating in the DnD group' rule when Paige already had a good reason to be wary of dating Logan due to all the drama from her old friend group and how they turned on her after dating one of the members.
Also, I never thought I’d say this but the DnD portions of the book felt like too much. I understand that DnD is central to the plot, but reading about them playing the game was kind of boring and I didn’t really care what their game characters were doing since nothing that happened in the game seemed to have any impact on the plot that was happening outside of playing DnD.
Overall it was still a cute story that I enjoyed reading, but I didn’t quite enjoy it as much as the other one in this series.
SO cute! I wasn't sure what I was expecting going into this book, but I knew the other similar romance was popular that Boyce wrote a while ago. I've always been intrigued by dungeons and dragons and to see it play out in this adorable YA romance was perfect. I loved Quinn and Logan. I could read more and more!

Dungeons and Dragons, forbidden romance, banter, tension, found family
Written by Kristy Boyce, Dating and Dragons follows Quinn as she transfers to a new school in the middle of her junior year. With a passion for Dungeons and Dragons (D&D), she joins a new group to make friends. Unlike the last group she was in, the campaign is livestreamed and has strict rules. One of the main rules being no dating other members in the group. This proves to be difficult for Quinn when she finds out the handsome boy she started crushing on her first day at her new school is in the group. Although he makes it easy to follow this rule by bickering with her and giving her the cold shoulder, she can't help but wonder if it's all a ruse? Is there a reason he went from friendly to difficult so fast?
I am obsessed with this book; I finished it in two sittings in under 24 hours. I loved the plot, the speed at which the story developed, and the writing style. I was giggling my feet and feeling like a lovesick teenager all over again. I loved the dynamic between Quinn and Logan. Their personalities compliment each other so well. Every one of the characters were loveable, side characters included. One of my favorite characters was Quinn's grandma, and I only hope to be like her when I become one! She was very entertaining. I haven't read any romance books that are based on Dungeons and Dragons before (aside from Dungeons and Drama, of course). It was an immersive experience! I loved how we got to see more of how the game works; it felt like I was on their campaign with them! Adding streaming into this story was a very cool aspect as well. Streaming is a huge part of gaming now-a-days, and I wasn't aware D&D was streamed! Dungeons and Drama inspired me to seek out D&D and now this book will encourage me to watch others stream! For a YA romance, the characters' actions did not enrage me or make me cringe. I loved every second of it. If you enjoy YA romances, I HIGHLY recommend reading this book. It is perfect for a light read or to get you out of a slump.
This is an HONEST review, and all opinions in this review are MY OWN. Thank you so much, NetGalley and Kristy Boyce, for the opportunity to love these characters ahead of the release! I look forward to following Kristy's future works. I don't really read romances, but she's created a big fan out of me!
“Dating and Dragons” is a cute romance that balances the portrayal of the romantic relationship while also exploring the main character’s friendships. Quinn was a really good main character, and the entire main friend group were enjoyable. I really like how the author wrote character dynamics, and how well the characters were developed. I’ve not played much D&D, but this book has made me want to get into it. I like the unique aspects that the inclusion of the game provide, and I think the author did a great job of incorporating the game into this book.
i didn't expect the book to be ever cuter than the cover. quinn and logan were sooooo freaking adorable!!!! kristy boyce, you did it.
thankyou netgalley for the arc. all opinions are my own!

Ahh this was sooooo good! I devoured “Dungeons and Drama” when it came out, so I was excited to jump on this new one!
Quinn and Logan are the cutest couple. The banter was fantastic and the slow burn was great. I am officially going to read every book Kristy Boyce writes from now on.
If you loved Dungeons and Drama, you will love this. It captured the same heart and feeling as the first book. I was absolutely obsessed with the characters. Especially Quinn's grandma. The tension and chemistry between the main characters was so good. I was kicking my feet and giggling the majority of the book, which I read basically in one sitting because I just couldn't put it down.
Also, after now reading two of these books, they make me really want to try D&D.
