Kristy Boyce returns with another D&D-centric romance, but rather than the fake-dating we saw in the wonderful Dungeons and Drama, we instead are treated to a will-they wont-they romance within a group that has a strict no-dating-group-members rule. . Quinn has just moved towns, leaving behind her school and her ex-friend group after a disastrous date with a guy from her last D&D group. Now, she determined to make a good group of friends and not let anything--not even romantic feelings towards the cute boy she meets on the first day of school--get in her way. Quinn quickly integrates into a new friend group--and their D&D group that they livestream every Saturday. Everything is going great, except for the fact that Logan is there and he admits his growing feelings for Quinn. Add in a spunky grandmother, a cute baby cow, and some fun D&D role-playing, and this romance is a recipe for a great time. Quinn's struggle with working through the pain of her last friend group kicking her out--and the betrayal of her previous best friend--makes Quinn's hesitancy and motivations very understandable and very real. Logan is an all-around sweet guy who loves his friends and family, and he has some very romantic one-liners that would make any girl squeal. On the other hand, his attraction to Quinn did feel a little like insta-love, and I felt the story was lacking in seeing why exactly he liked her from the very beginning, since they almost never interacted at school. There were also a few lines that the author relied on a little too heavily, as I noticed them repeated several times throughout the story (namely, "its as if we were the only two people in the world".
I appreciated that Quinn's family also showed some growth over the course of the story, as they came to show interest and support in Quinn's non-sporty interests. And her brother especially was a character I didn't care for at first, but I kinda warmed up to him by the end. Oh, and the book really made me want pancakes!
Overall, a fun read. I personally enjoyed Dungeons and Drama more, but if you liked that book, or just want a nerdy romance, then this book should hit the spot.
This book was an absolute delight. I love how D&D is really spanning the generations. The book deals with several elements of growing up and being a teen that I felt were handled really well. The romance in this was age appropriate and so sweet. I also love the importance of friendship in this and how that was as big a part of the plot as the romance was.
Cure and mythical, needy and fun absolutely adore this series and need way more of it yesterday also the voice of this author is killer
I absolutely love this series! Such a sweet heartfelt story. Fun love story for us fellow nerds. Makes me want to get into Dungeons and Dragons.
So cute! I loved reading this sweet, light romance. The characters were fun, the relationship between the MC and her grandmother was great (the grandma was amazing!), and I enjoyed learning more about D & D.
I had a lot of fun with this read. I felt the characters were flushed out well and the plot was entertaining. I am finding that I may actually like some D&D romance. :) I will be recommending!
Kristy, what do you put in these books? I’m 8 chapters in and my cheeks hurt from smiling.
Quinn is the new girl at school and Grandma is embarrassing her on day one. Luckily it’s in front of nice, non-judgmental kids! Who all turn out to be a part of a DND group that live-streams their sessions. Quinn is quickly offered a spot in their campaign— small rule: no dating other players in the group. Which wouldn’t be a problem, except the cute boy (Logan) she met on her first day is in the group. Logan was nice and friendly on day one but the instantly Quinn shows up for DND he’s standoffish… is it because he’s upset her joining means she’s off limits?????
Omg omg omg this book is my drug— I’m kicking my feet from the start. All the characters are great and I love seeing the friendship element. The DND sessions are equally entertaining. But the bickering between Quinn and Logan?? CHEF’s KISS!
I started this book before bed at 9pm… kept saying “one more chapter” until 2:30am and it was finished!! Such a fun, cute book!
I'm a huge fan of Dungeons and Drama and Boyce's new book Dating and Dragons is equally as cute and entertaining. Although I am not all familiar with the world of D&D, I appreciate that Boyce makes it accessible--as a teenager, I would have loved to read more books like this! This book takes on a slightly more serious tone than her previous book. Quinn is juggling young adulthood and family problems with her aging grandmother. Quinn is an interesting main character and I enjoyed getting to watch her grow and change throughout the story. The romance and friendship between Quinn and Logan had me at the edge of my seat and the slow burn had me kicking me feet in the air the entire time!
This would have been one of my nerdy teenage selfs favorite books, adult me is going to give it 5 stars and reccomend that you make it available to all of the nerdy/geeky teens in your life.
Dating and Dragons is absolutely stellar! This was one of my most anticipated reads of the year and Kristy Boyce does not disappoint. The characters are sweet, the story is engaging, and the banter is so well written. Quinn's family and friendship struggles are genuine and make the book feel like more than a cute YA romcom. The multiple layers of the characters (particularly Quinn's grandma) makes me care about each and every one of their lives and issues. These standalones are some of my favorite books.
This was cute! But it didn't have the same heart as the first one did for me. This one felt younger somehow, I liked it but the characters didn't hit me as hard and the chemistry wasn't as fun to read. I still love Kristy Boyce and will be picking up more of her books though!
This is a feel good, wholesome romance that had me smiling and swooning. I really liked the characters in this one and they felt true to their age. I like that Quinn's grandma was trying to play sly matchmaker and making convenient excuses to run into Logan. I am a gamer, but have never played D&D although I know the general idea. I think this book explains the nature of D&D without making it overshadow the rest of the story. Overall I was really impressed with this book and it's a cozy, sweet story that is great for all ages.
Thank you NetGalley and Random House Children's | Delacorte Romance for access to the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I had the absolute pleasure of reading Dungeons and Drama, so I was beyond excited to get the opportunity to request to read this title. After such a delightful read, I requested this as soon as it became available.
After moving to a new high school, Quinn is desperate for friends. So what does one do? She joins a D&D group! This group has their own livestream and some serious rules to follow, including not dating any other group members. with their own livestream and serious rules—most no dating fellow party members. So what is Quinn to do when sparks fly with a cute but irritating fellow player?
I loved the drama of this book, as I expect a book about a 16 year old to be. And I am an absolute sucker for gamer references and content, as a fellow gamer myself. I found this every bit as enjoyable and delightful as the previous one. I'm grateful to have been chosen to read this one as well.
Woooow! Ok I’m an adult romance book reader 99% of the time. When I jump to YA, it’s because I know I’m feeling something here. I loved this book! It had me giggling in the attic and on the pickleball court and soooo many other places. Logan is such a heartthrob and what every high school girl (or boy) could ever dream of. And Grandma… omg…new favorite geriatric book character of the year! Maybe ever!
I played Hearthstone and Magic The Gathering for many years so I was always in the same-ish community with Dungeons and Dragons and even still watch some
DnD on Twitch! Kristy put the spin on this that Ali Hazelwood puts on STEM imo and just has me actually geeking out and googling all the things 😂
Dating and Dragons made me miss high school soooo much and in the best way. I loved how Quinn found amazing friends, an even more amazing boyfriend all while getting closer to her family and her kick-ass Grandma.
This book is going to be ALL over the YA book community! You will definitely want to read it! Zero spice…just some sweet kisses. Loved this. Get it when it comes out!
Thank you, NetGalley and Delacorte Romance for the opportunity to leave my honest review!!
Overall:
I REALLY loved it! Boyce just knows how to write a leg kicking, squeal out loud, swoony YA rom-com that has almost nonexistent swearing and stays closed door.
This book had me reflecting on my high school experience while also having me strongly identifying with, relating to and loving the Grandma in this story!
Characters:
What these characters are going through is perfect for the genre and age group! Real life friendship problems that rattle your whole world, family drama and boys, boys, boys!
Our FMC Quinn is likable and has kind of a one track mind which fits the story well. Our MMC Logan is lovable, attentive and says the cutest things (too cute maybe because no 16/17 year old I ever dated was that smooth lol) The side character friends are awesome and the kind of friends you hope people find and wished you had had in high school!
Writing:
I enjoy Boyce’s writing. It flows, you are well oriented and her dialogue is so great!
Romance:
I’ve read both Boyce’s “Dungeons and Drama” and this one.
The romance in “Dungeons and Drama” was more prominent to me because it was fake dating x forced proximity, where in this one it is more forbidden love.
So I did miss having more FMC & MMC interactions in the first half of this book just due to the plot circumstances but overall I still liked it and the last half made up for what I thought I was missing in the first.
∞ stars!!!
This was the cutest YA forbidden romcom! I am so in love with this book and all the characters, especially our sassy matchmaker/pickleball-playing Grandma. I'm giving all my love to this book and Dungeons and Dragons. I will jump at the chance to read anything Kristy writes.

I think I liked this even more than Dungeons & Drama?? It was everything I wanted it to be. Super cute overall, the romance was warm and fuzzy, and all the characters were really fun. I especially loved the grandma! Everything with the friends group was very sweet, and I was just rooting for all of them to be happy. I really enjoyed the D&D campaign scenes, they were well written and made me want to jump in and play!
I really enjoyed this book especially since I read the first one when it came out! I'm amazed at how Kristy Boyce can come up with these D&D centered plots and can't wait to see the next one she invents. I do wish I could see some more alone time with Logan and Quinn to help build their relationship but other than that, I thought it was a cute and easy read.
As a D&D player, I was super excited that I got the chance to read this book!
Super cute! I loved the banter between Quinn and Logan! It did at times feel a little too YA for my taste but it was still a cute and fun read nonetheless!
Thanks NetGalley and Kristy Boyce for the chance to read and review this ARC!
I was skeptical about this book at first because I know absolutely nothing about D&D. Although that was the case, I found this story absolutely heartwarming! Quinn and Logan are so sweet and I was rooting for them from the beginning of the book when he takes her photo on the first day of school. I loved how this brought elements of forbidden love and turned them into a true understanding between the 2 characters. Overall I will give this book 4 stars only because there were certain parts of the book that dragged on and left me wanting more. I think that If you love a good forbidden love, strangers to lovers, and YA romance then you will love this! It is also a slow burn and man was is killing me because all I wanted was for our main characters to just give it up and KISS! I now need to go back and read the first book in the series because I need to know what that was about! Also... I NEED a book about Andrew! I loved his character throughout the book and an curious to see how he evolves as a person during his high school years!
