I have mixed feelings about this book. On the plus side, this was a fast-paced, tightly plotted adventure with a really likeable gang of characters that's sure to appeal to middle graders.

I also love how Dee shows the importance of spreading positive energy in such a fun, literal way.

So why not a higher rating? Unfortunately, the amount of pseudo-science in this was seriously concerning and quite off-putting. Which is unfortunate, because this is an otherwise great read that can teach valuable life lessons.

I thoroughly enjoyed Energy Wars. While it is listed as a children's, I would buy this for myself and gladly recommend it as a book all ages can relate to.

Myles's world is turned upside down when Sally Munson walks into school in balloon pants, and the kids begin to make fun of her. This is not unique in itself. After they are teenagers, they make fun of everyone. What is unusual, however, is that Myles sees their unkind words as balls of energy being thrown at Sally.

Soon, Miles finds himself dodging energy balls everywhere as people's emotions and harsh words are thrown around.

This is a clean book of self-discovery with a message on how to treat others. It made me rethink what I know about the world and definitely see it's parallel in how words and emotions affect us all.

I highly recommend this book as an excellent read for all ages.

I enjoyed this book so much I will look out for book 2. It is a must-read for me.

Energy wars by Jodi Dee is about Myles, a thirteen year old boy who can see your energy. He sees the energy thrown behind each insult in the form of a fireball. Yes his school looks like it's at war lol! But there’s also something fishy going on in connection to this power and he has to figure it out before it's too late.

This book has some really interesting concepts and I enjoyed reading it. The writing style was easy to consume however I did find at times things were a bit too lengthy. There would be chunks of descriptions that just kind of took me out of the story. The book also had some odd moments, like why was a literal middle schooler being compared to Jesus…? As well, the ending of the book felt very abrupt (makes sense since it’s just a cliffhanger for the next book), but just something to keep in mind. I did love the various character relationships, they all felt distinct and real. I also like the introduction of the book where Myles talked to us directly, it sucked me right in.

There was some really good build up in the book and it felt like a great introduction to the series. Honestly, I’m pretty excited to read the next one!

Love this book- absolutely love it. It is so real and perfect for middle grade. It’s as if one of my students was telling the story to the rest. My class loved it. The conversations and topics were spot on for what coming of age is and the truth of growing up. It also touched on self awareness and kindness and how we all affect each other in ways we don’t even understand. Highly highly recommend for any child 8-13

Wow. I need to read the next one. Love how it shows the energy of our feelings. Also how just being kind to others can change the energy in a person.

this was a strong start to the energy wars series, it had a strong concept and enjoyed the superpower elements. It had a great middle grade element to it and worked overall. I'm excited to read more in this series and from Jodi Dee.
