Thank you to the Entangled team for the ARC. I thoroughly enjoyed A Lady Would Know Better.
The plot of this book is very creative and fun. The main female character lost her memory, and falls into the hands of a handsome, single English lord. Lucky her! He takes great care of her, and while he is in the middle of his grief, he gets romantic feelings for the female main character who can't even remember her name. The story is a page-turner and the pacing is really well done while the characters try to figure out who the mystery woman might be. It is easy to root for the main characters, especially give the topics of loss that emerge in the story.
The writing and voice of this story was really enjoyable. I think the author is quite talented. The writing was very easy to read, and I think any romance lovers would really enjoy this book. I did want to point out that there is one spicy scene at the end. I am not a spicy reader, and skip over those scenes. If you're like me, you can skip the scene since it is at the end.
Overall, I really enjoyed the plot! The ending was very sweet and this standalone book was a wonderful story. But it would be nice if there was a follow up book! I wish the best to the author, publisher, and the entire team at Entangled.

“A Lady Would Know Better” by Emma Theriault is a delightful and utterly charming historical romance that effortlessly blends wit, heart, and an engaging plot. From the very first page, Theriault pulls you into a world of societal expectations, hidden desires, and characters who challenge the norms of their time.
The story centers around two strong-willed protagonists, whose chemistry is undeniable and whose personal growth is just as captivating as their romance. The witty banter between them is a highlight, full of sharp humor and clever repartee that keeps the reader both entertained and invested. Theriault’s writing is crisp and full of emotion, effortlessly moving between moments of tension and tenderness.
What makes “A Lady Would Know Better” stand out is how Theriault weaves in deeper themes like self-discovery and the quest for independence. The heroine, in particular, is wonderfully complex, breaking free from the rigid constraints placed upon her and proving that a lady can indeed know better than to simply conform to society’s expectations.
The historical setting is richly drawn, with vivid descriptions that transport you straight to the world of the upper echelons of society, while also giving a voice to those who might otherwise be silenced. It’s a perfect balance of romance and social commentary, all wrapped in an intriguing and immersive narrative.
If you’re a fan of historical romance with a strong, relatable heroine and a love story full of heart, “A Lady Would Know Better” is a must-read. Theriault has crafted a captivating tale that will keep you turning pages long into the night. Highly recommended!

Thank you Entangled for giving me the opportunity to read this one before its release!
What happens when the new Earl finds a woman on the lawn but she has no idea who she is?! And that my friends is where the story begins.
I should also mention that Jasper and his siblings have been grieving the loss of their mother for quite sometime when Jane quite literally appears.
This is a cute story that follows Jane as she builds relationships with all of the characters, including Jasper. Throw in a touch of romance, comedy, and mystery and this makes for a fun historical fiction!

Overall, I really enjoyed this! I was glad to see that it lived up to the “Bridgerton/Jane Austen” comparison. The characters really drew me in and I found myself attached to them by the end. I think the plot was well paced most of the times though maybe dragged a little slow once or twice. I would recommend this to people without a second thought though!

I was not able to finish this book, it was a DNF for me. I had a hard time connecting with the story. I have read historical romance before but it took me out of the story completely the way everyone was overly familiar in their address and would call each other by their first names, when that was not the way for the time. I just didn't connect with the story or the writing style unfortunately. This book just wasn't for me.

Thank you so much to Entangled Publishing for providing me an ARC of A Lady Would Know Better!
I love me a good historical romance and so I immediately jumped on this one. I will start out by saying that I felt like this book started out very slow after the initial major plot point. Granted I'm not sure if there's any way around that due to the tropes involved but I did feel like it was a little slow for my liking. However, once I hit the 50% mark the book flew by. Like I was kind of shocked at how quickly I inhaled the last half of the book.
There are a few times where I did feel like the man was falling in love during the weirdest and most improper times times like when (spoiler) she was literally dying or in the middle of a blizzard. But then again that might just be how men fall in love in general. Hard to say. I also really wanted a little more dimension out of the female main character but also I understand due to the tropes involved how that could be a little hard.
I definitely think if you are new to historical romance or you just need a little palate cleanser, this is a great book to pick up. 4 stars!

When Jasper Maycott, the Earl of Belhaven, went out with his sisters to visit their parents on the cemetery, he never expected to find an unconscious and hurt woman.
The Maycotts take care of her, but sadly, she doesn't know anything about her life.
Deciding to be known as Jane from now on, she tries to find out more about herself, which leads to a lot of surprises and so much more.
A Lady Would Know Better by Emma Theriault was a charming historical romance I enjoyed.
The Earl of Belhaven stole my heart from the beginning. Jasper is this handsome Earl with truly a heart of gold. He takes care of his siblings after the death of their parents. Oh my heart... ❤️ and how he treats Jane? Awwww!
The siblings? Are quite charming and absolutely lovely! I laughed so much because of them! 😅
And Jane is the woman without any memory. She's such a strong character who doesn't lose hope, although she doesn't remember a thing.
All in all, I really liked the whole story of Jane and Jasper, and there were a lot of swoon-worthy moments between them, but I didn't connect with them 100%. 🥲
That's why I decided to give it 4 stars. ✨️😘
If you like the amnesia theme, swoon-worthy and also spicy moments, grieving characters who'll get their HEA, mysteries and drama, slooooow burn and charming siblings,
A Lady Would Know Better is the perfect story for you.
Thank you so much to Emma Theriault and Entangled Publishing for this ARC via NetGalley.
This is my honest review in my own words.

ARC Review of A Lady Would Know Better by Emma Theriault

A historical romance where our love interests are on the edge of taking a change or hiding their growing feelings in the face of uncertainty.
Jasper and his siblings have been through a lot recently, and are now hit with another interesting twist in their lives upon finding the mysterious young woman near death - lying in snow covered in blood.
She has no name.
No idea where she came from.
No easy quest.
One thing is for sure, she's in trouble.
As they help 'Jane' find out what happened to her, it is become difficult for Jasper to not have his emotions tied to Jane. A blossoming love that could be doomed.
A smooth nice read that were perfect for my mood today.
With mystery and family and romance, you are pulled into the story as much as the attraction is pulling Jasper and Jane together. Saucy moments alone in the shadows, very risque for the period.
With initals engraved on a gold ring on her finger, the possibility of her marital status hangs in the balance. Without knowing who her possible husband or family is, the connecting and friendship she is builing with Jasper's family could led to heartbreak.
However, as the mystery to Jane's past unravels, it is easy to understand the real danger in her life was far more complicated.
Playing detective, steamy scenes, some swordplay!
Enjoyable read!

Thank you net galley for the advance reader copy of this novel. This was a Regency style historical romance. The story of Jane with anensia falling in love with an Earl was a great read. I was disappointed as I thought this was a clean romance and it was not and skipped many many pages. I loved the sense of family the author laud out with all the Earls siblings. Only two stars because this was not a clean romance.

A Lady Would Know Better is not your typical historical romance and I loved it. I thought the amnesia aspect and how Jane struggled to figure out who she really was a unique storyline. Add in Jasper, his siblings, and the tragedy they are shrouded in and it was hard to put this book down.
Jane and Jasper were hot and cold with each other from the start which made the story more believable and had me rooting for them to figure their relationship out. I really enjoyed most of the characters in this book and really hope we’ll get some of their stories in the future.

The description and cover for this book really attracted my attention and it started well. For me it was far far too drawn out and then the actual reasons for the accident were too rushed at the end. I did find myself skipping through whole pages in the middle section I’m afraid. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for giving me access to an early copy of this book.

I liked this, but there was a lot of back and forth on feelings and arguing, making the ending feel rushed.
But if you like romances where one main character has amnesia, this is for you!

I’ve loved every historical romance I’ve read lately and this book is no different! It’s been so fun seeing more traditional current romance book tropes be placed into historical and become more mainstream, amnesia is one I rarely come across in current time romance books, much less a historical romance, but it worked so well in this story. I loved how strong Jane was not knowing anything after her accident, but yet she was also willing to be insecure, sad, and feel every emotion surrounding the loss of her memories.
Jane and Jasper were hot and cold this whole book and I loved it! They had passion and chemistry in spades and for a time when they couldn’t act on it, it drove them both crazy to the point they couldn’t leave each other alone and yet tried to avoid each other at every moment! I also loved how Jane connected with each of Jasper’s sister’s individually and really focused on an individual connection for each. I hope we get to see more of the sisters and that this book becomes a series!

This is a hopeful historical romance with a strong female character. I can easily see this becoming a series as this novel introduces us to a whole host of interesting family members and friends.

If you enjoy regency romance this book is perfect. It will keep you swooning and smiling, blushing, and giggling.
I enjoyed this book so much. I highly recommend if you want a feel good cute romance that keeps you smiling after you read it!

While out walking with his sisters, Jasper Maycott, the new Earl of Belhaven discovers an unconscious woman in the snow and he brings her home to nurse her back to health, but when she wakes, she has no memory of who she is or what happened. Having suffered much loss in the last year, including the woman he loved, Jasper has sealed his heart and never expected to have feelings for the woman they are calling Jane. But Jane manages to pull him out of his grief, but without her memories, what future could they possibility have?
When Jane wakes in Mulgrave Hall, she has no recollection of who she is or where she is from but knows something is wrong. She is drawn to the brooding, grief-stricken Jasper as well as his sisters. But without knowing her past, she can’t risk her heart or causing Jasper and his family more pain. Yet when she is reunited with her family, things don’t go as this reader expected and HEA seems like an impossibility.
While I will not deny that this book was technically well-written and the author has a gift for writing a character’s emotions, I cannot say that I enjoyed it. The characters are likable, but formulaic, and the “I was in love and will never love again” trope is one that annoys me to no end. The story starts out promising, but it drags until the ending, which was anti-climactic and frankly, disappointing. Add to that the complete disregard for the protocols and etiquette standards of the Victorian era, and you end up with a contemporary romance in period dress. Overall, I didn’t care for this book, but the writing has promise and I would consider reading another book by this author.
2.5 stars, rounded up

I absolutely loved A Lady Would Know Better! From start to finish, it was a total page-turner. The story was engaging, the characters were so fun to read, and the writing had just the right mix of wit and intrigue. I couldn’t put it down! If you enjoy historical fiction with strong female leads and a touch of romance, this book is definitely worth reading. Highly recommend!

This BOOK. Inject it straight in my veins. This is Emma’s adult debut historical romance and it is a must read.
Jasper finds Jane unconscious on his property during a snowstorm before Christmas. Jane doesn’t remember who she is or why she’s on his estate. Jasper has just had a year of grieving for unspeakable tragedies in his life and he’s holding his family together by threads. And Jane? Jane doesn’t know who she is, but by gods is she funny, smart and attractive.
I love this book. It is a romp, a reminder of why historical romance is SO good, and has a whiff of mystery. Emma takes a hard trope – amnesia – and makes it such a comforting, thoughtful and sympathetic experience. Jane, as we shall call her, doesn’t remember anything about her life, but she remembers odd things like the German language, her favourite painter and how to dance the waltz. She doesn’t know if she’s married or promised to someone, but there’s Jasper…. The Earl of Belhaven is handsome, funny, loves his family deeply and is so stoic it hurts. Emma throws them together and adds in a house party of all of Jasper’s closest friends and surviving family, a snowstorm, and the cheer of the impending holidays. And then she threads so much longing through Jasper and Jane. There is banter, there is humour and there is such caring comradery from the cast of characters.
I shall riot if we don’t get more of the Maycott clan’s story. A Lady Would Know Better is perfect for those of us who love big strong families with feisty women and fearless men who would do anything for their families ala the Bridgestone and the Cynsters. The Maycott’s have earned their place in my mind as the next family saga I am ready to be obsessed with.
Jane and Jasper have a fabulous relationship built on misunderstandings and tentative friendship. Jasper is very aware of the power dynamic of having a young woman with amnesia in his household. He is obviously attracted to her but does not wish to compromise her partially because he fears she cannot truly know what she desires without knowing herself, and because he has sworn off of all love and only lives for duty after the staggering loss of his fiancé, mother, father and eldest brother due to illness. Jane may not know her mind, but knows her heart. What follows is a sexy, wound tight relationship, with no third act breakup; the lovers are separated because of the mystery of Jane’s past. There is a lot of grief in the book – both Jane and Jasper have known serious loss in their loves, and Jasper has younger siblings who are still figuring out how to live life after everything they know is uprooted. However, the grief never overshadows the characters vitality for life, and for the exploration of love even through sadness.
Emma’s storytelling is strong with vivid characters, fast-paced plot and a clear and deep admiration for the historical elements of the novel. A Lady Would Know Better feels current but also deeply respectful of the giant authors whose shoulders Emma stands on. This is hopefully the first in the series of a powerful new voice in historical romance. The genre is done? Pfft, not with authors of such talent and skill as Emma. I can’t wait to see what she writes next.

What a delightful read!
This was a very sweet historical romance. I enjoyed the characters a lot, especially Jasper. He was such a gentleman! Jane and Jasper had good banter and chemistry. The tension between them was palpable too which is always fun to read in a romance. I also liked how respectful they were of one another, especially considering Jane had amnesia. These two were really a great pairing.
The plot is interesting with all the different twists and turns. It certainly kept me entertained.
Would recommend to fellow historical romance lovers.

I really thought this was a cute read and I enjoyed the characters. I did feel that the story was a little too long and slow. The story itself was good. I would have liked a little more to the ending as well and not feel like it ended so abruptly. Overall it was good, regency read.
