The new Earl of Belhaven, Jasper, and his siblings at Mulgrave Hall have experienced tragedy and have been grieving for the past year. On the birthday of their deceased mother, while out on a walk to her grave, they discover an injured woman unconscious and bleeding in the snow. She briefly wakes up to indicate she is in danger but then passes back out. They discover she is suffering from amnesia, not remembering anything, including her name, so they begin to call her Jane and try to help her recuperate physically and mentally.
Jane is a very mysterious character, and we are left guessing most of the story as to who she is and her background. She develops meaningful relationships with each of the siblings, and with them helping her try to heal, she is also helping them heal from their grief. There is also immediate attraction between Jasper and Jane, but due to decorum, the past, and uncertainty of Jane's status or identity, Jasper is cautious with his feelings and self sabotages to prevent any further exploration of an emotional connection.
I enjoyed this story, and the plot kept me intrigued by wanting to solve the mystery of Jane. There was a budding romance as well, which gave this a slow burn vibe, which I'm very partial to reading. There were also plenty of other characters introduced in which spin-off stories could be created, which makes me excited to see what this writer comes up with next!

The beginning of this book had potential, but there was a lot of back story given before the actual story had a chance to take off. I had a hard time getting into it because of all the “extra” happening before the plot began. Then, there were historical inaccuracies that got distracting, too. However, it was a cute story to enjoy, once I could get past some of those distractions.

I love Jane Austen and the vibes that I picked up while reading this book really satisfied my love for Austen. I really never pick up historical romances but after this one I think I might start. Jasper is definitely going to be a book boyfriend. I loved his character so much. And Jane I felt myself within her. These two characters deserved each other and I loved the romance throughout.

The premise of this story had potential, but the execution fell short in some areas. Initially, I appreciated the depth of the characters’ struggles—Jasper’s grief over the loss of his loved ones and Jane’s battle with amnesia. However, the repetitive cycle of uncertainty in their relationship, coupled with Jasper’s tendency to push Jane away under the guise of self-preservation, became tiresome after a while. <spoiler>While I was glad that Jane began to regain her memories, it seemed implausible for both characters to trust a suspicious “cousin” who appeared out of nowhere.</spoiler> That said, the supporting cast was engaging, and I’d consider reading more from this series to see where the Maycotts’ story goes.

As always, thanks to Entangled Publishing for the opportunity to read this ARC!
Historical Regency Fiction is always such a vibe. These books keep me going until a new season of Bridgerton comes around.
This was a cute story. The characters had great personalities and could banter so well. The MMC, Jasper, had so much great depth to him. But the story was way too long. The slow burn burned way to slow. The story was drawn out entirely too much in the middle, too much inner monologue. I skimmed chapters because it just became repetitive. And then the end felt rushed instead of giving us more action that could of enhanced the mystery and give the "ah ha" moment more value.

A historical romance with a young lady with amnesia. It reminded me of another favorite of mine called Until You. That was a really good book. Unfortunately, I couldn’t help comparing the two of them. It wasn't the same. The beginning of this story was a bit slow. And it lagged for a bit . I have to be honest the mystery of her identity was the only thing keeping my interest for the first half of the book. Jasper and Jane were good characters and their first kiss was nice. I liked his siblings and best friends. They added humor to the story. The mystery of Jane was solved but wasn’t unexpected. The ending was cute and definitely needed. Overall, it was a nice romance. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for my ARC.

Enjoying a Historical English romance was NOT on my 2024 Bingo Card, but here we are! This delightful gem follows Jasper and “Jane,” our main characters, as they navigate a “Will they, won’t they” budding romance. They are joined by a wonderful cast of lovable characters that have their own strong personalities to boot.
The story begins with our surly main man Jasper finding a thoroughly sodden “Jane” in the snow after being thrown off her horse. “Jane” has lost her memories and does not know where she comes from, how she got there, or why she was even on a horse! Jasper takes her into his home, much to the chagrin of his overbearing Aunt, to see to her recovery. Jasper’s sisters, on the other hand, are very excited to get to know “Jane” and help her discover her past. “Jane” would also like to re-discover her past, but her potential future might make that an impossibility.
Without giving too much away, there is a plethora of “will they, won’t they” situations, intrigue, and mystery that will leave the reader wanting to know more and loving every minute of discovery.

A Lady Would Know Better by Emma Theriault is a pure, sparkling delight of a novel that had me utterly enchanted from the very first page. With its perfect blend of Regency romance charm, intrigue, and swoon-worthy tension, this story offers a delightful escape into a world that feels both elegant and thrilling.
The moment Jasper Maycott, the brooding yet oh-so-compelling Earl of Belhaven, discovers a mysterious woman in the snow, unconscious and vulnerable, I was hooked. Emma Theriault weaves together sharp, witty banter and sweeping emotion as Jasper and "Jane" (whose past is as mysterious as her arrival) navigate secrets, memory loss, and undeniable chemistry. Both characters are brilliantly crafted—Jane’s cleverness and strength in the face of uncertainty paired with Jasper’s stoic, conflicted heart make for a duo that’s impossible not to root for.
What sets A Lady Would Know Better apart is its balance of tension, romance, and mystery, reminiscent of Jane Austen’s sharp observations and the sweeping drama of Bridgerton. Theriault’s prose is elegant and sharp, effortlessly drawing you into the story’s twists and turns, while the relationships feel deep, natural, and beautifully paced.
This book is a swooning, addictive, unforgettable read—perfect for anyone who loves their historical romance with a dash of intrigue, a pinch of heartache, and a whole lot of chemistry. Emma Theriault has crafted a story that’ll linger in your mind long after you turn the last page. Don’t miss it!

Considering that regency romance usually isn't my thing, this book more than pleasantly surprised me. I loved it! This couple's love for each other was breathtaking. For someone who has grieved too many, it was wonderful to read about people who work through grief in their own way yet together. After losing the love of my life, reading about Jasper finding love again even if fictional gives me hope.
Thank you to Emma Theriault for gifting me this ebook in a giveaway. It was truly my pleasure to read it!

Earl Jasper, the second son, never wanted or thought he would become an Earl. Finding himself the Earl after family tragedy while grieving with his siblings an unexpected Lady has fallen on his property. She wakes up with no recollection of her name and why she was running. Jasper and his family take in this unnamed woman-they decide to call her Jane- and she brings a much needed warmth and happiness to the Manor. Jane feels like a burden to this grieving family, but without even a last name, she feels lost on what to do. Jane and Jasper exchange longing glances, despite it being inappropriate for the time period. Will Jane be the light Jasper needs? Will Jasper be the salvation she was running from? Dear reader, a Lady would never tell. You must find out!

I've been immersed in tales of dragons, magic, and pointy ears for quite some time, so I felt it was the right moment to explore something different. I'm so pleased that I made that choice. "A Lady Would Know Better" was an absolute joy to read. The characters were captivating, and the sibling dynamics were beautifully portrayed. Jane's journey of self-discovery, paired with her unyielding spirit that surfaced when it mattered most, resonated deeply with me. Additionally, the theme of women's rights, subtly threaded throughout the narrative, serves as an important reminder that remains relevant today. I look forward to delving into more stories about all the siblings and their individual journeys. 💜
Thank you Emma Theriault, Entangled and Netgalley for allowing me the opportunity to review an early copy. All thoughts are my own.

A man who is lost in the past and a woman who lost her past, met to make their own future together. Mystery, tragedy and loss, supporting families and friends, and relative out to get you! All elements that will keep you engaged all the way through. Lovely read!
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and leaving my review voluntarily.

a fun pretty fast paced read with multiple POVs with amusing and interesting MCs. I really enjoyed the witty banter throughout and the sweet although a little predictable romance. this is definitely a book o would recommend to anyone who enjoys historical romance

4.5 stars rounded up. This book was full of excitement and intrigue and tension with the added stakes of the society standards and rules that come with historical romance.
Without saying too much about the intrigue surrounding Jane’s amnesia mystery so as not to give anything away, it was such a great element to lend additional tension to the already forbidden-by-the-times attraction between her and Jasper. Also along the lines of not saying too much, I do love a headstrong heroine who can save herself.
Jasper and his family had faced an extreme amount of loss and hardship in their pasts and were doing their best to muddle through. Jane brought a breath of fresh air into their home that impacted not only Jasper but his sisters as well. I loved the relationships she formed, especially with Viola.
With all the discourse around the historical romance genre lately, this book is a reminder of how great it is and how the naturally higher stakes of society make it that much more exciting to read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Setting: 1877 England

👍 short chapters, multi POV, amnesia, witty banter, char growth, grief rep, book loving FMCs, very little cursing
👎 predictable at times (but cute)
Description:
The Earl of Belhaven finds a woman in the snow, unconscious and nearly frozen to death. Then her luminous gray eyes open just long enough for her to plead, “Don’t let them get me.”
Now Jasper Maycott has his hands full with a woman who has absolutely no memory of her name or who she is or where she came from! Just a gold ring, some fine clothes, and a penchant for pert conversation. But while “Jane” dresses and speaks quite like a lady, Jasper can’t make any assumptions. After all, she could be a crafty fortune hunter...albeit a charming and unutterably beautiful one.
Only there’s no room for romantic love in the Earl of Belhaven’s world. There is just grim duty, a lingering sense of loss, and the knowledge that love can only bring heartbreak in its wake.
But while a lady should know better, the heart heeds no rules...even if its every beat portends the danger she was running from.
My opinion:
Fairly fast-paced storyline with amusing and intriguing main characters that grow throughout the novel. The short chapters and multiple POVs make for easy reading. I love that the female main characters love reading. I always appreciate when personas enjoy books like I do. I delighted in the witty banter in this story. I appreciated the very little cursing in this novel. The romantic plot is predictable but cute and delightful. The rep of people grieving makes the novel more realistic and heartfelt. I enjoyed this novel and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical romance.

Super cute book but it did have major Bridgerton vibes. I could distinctly pick out which charter was based off the other but over all a cute light read.
I loved how each person is broken in different ways from the tragic event that happen over a year or maybe three yrs ago but also they seem to know what each other needs and become the need.
The story starts off with the siblings getting to gather and take a walk outside when a snow storm is blowing in to find a lady laying unconscious and bleeding in their path on their property. Jasper sends his sisters back to the house to prepare the house for her as she picks her up and carries her back home. However, as he starts to walk the women’s eyes flicker open for a brief moment to tell him “don’t let them get me” before she looses consciousness again.
When the mysterious women come a to later she no longer has memories or remembers her name. The Maycotts are worried about her giving how the society treats women in her predicament and the fact her accident is similarly close to someone else’s they knew.
So the Maycotts agree to allow her to stay as long as she needs to recover and remember who she is.
But, there is just one problem. They forgot that they were having guest and have to come up with a cover story for who “Jane” is while also helping her discover her memories.
All is going well until it’s not and then the big plot picks up…….
The only real complaint I have about the book was it seem to take forever in the build up to the plot but once the plot was reached ( around 70% ) the book really did pick up with new material and then I flew through the book!!
But if your looking for a
Slow burn
Amnesia lost damsel
Forbidden love
Grumpy sunshine
Then this is the book for you

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters and the story and it talking about women’s rights at that time. A lot of people probably don’t think about that.
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing, LLC | Entangled: Amara for this book. ~I was given this book and made no commitments to leave my opinions, favorable or otherwise~

I was given this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This was an okay read. At times the story moved a little bit slow. I also was not a fan of the main guy he was a big Jerk for 99% of the book. Otherwise it was a decent read.

*thank you to the publisher and the author for the opportunity of an advance reader copy. Due to my personal rating and opinion, I will not post this review until two weeks after release*
Rating: 3.25/5 stars
General opinions: The initial plot was there, the character personality was there, and the opportunity for a memory restoration love story was there.
Before I expand upon my thoughts, this book wasn’t bad by any means and I did stick through the end. However I had a lot of opinions towards the main character and her development through the story. Firstly, I enjoyed the beginning of this book. At times it did feel like it was slowly moving along to only be a week times span in twenty chapters but I ignored that. There was tension and want but it was always interrupted and that was okay with me. My gripe comes over halfway through when she willing goes off with her family. The strength and determination of the character is built up in my mind was ruined because I personally only saw someone naive and desperate for knowledge no matter the danger she knows she’s in. It became annoying at point (which to that I know people wonder, why did I keep reading), however I was invested in other characters and if this story could steer us back to safety. Sadly, for me it did not and elements of the story like her dismissing things she heard like plotting behind her back, last minute steamy scenes, and surprise recovery of skills with perfect accuracy/timing (once you read it you’ll get it, I’m tiptoeing around things as to not spoil too much). In short, it felt like too much of a plot shift from the flow of the story I’d started off reading, and it altered my interest in the remainder of the story. I did enjoy the beginning, and overall feel this book had so much more it could’ve offered than the whirlwind ending.

I honestly couldn’t get into this book. Even though it’s set in a historical time, it felt way too modern in terms of writing style. It made it hard to really get lost in the setting. The romance between the main characters was pretty flat too. I couldn’t feel any chemistry between them, and the guy wasn’t nearly as brooding or intriguing as I’d hoped. He just didn’t have that “hero” vibe.
What I actually enjoyed more was Jane’s interactions with the hero’s sisters. Their relationship felt more natural and had some actual warmth to it, which was a nice change from the awkwardness between Jane and the male lead. But since I couldn’t connect with the main couple at all, I ended up DNF’ing the book. It just didn’t pull me in like I was hoping.
