This is a fun historical romance. Jane has amnesia and the Maycott family are grief stricken. It starts as an enemies to lovers, then a near instalove. The ending has some adventures, and shows Jane as a daring heroine. All in all a fun read.

A Lady Would Know Better by Emma Theriault
The Maycott family has endured so much heartbreak, losing loved ones one after another.
But one fateful evening, everything changes when they come across a woman thrown from a horse. With no memory of who she is, they name her "Jane," and she is the perfect distraction for Jasper, who can't decide if she's saving his sanity or driving him mad.
As Jane works to piece together scraps of her past, the bonds she forms with the Maycott family are nothing short of beautiful. The found family dynamics are heartwarming, and the story pulls you in as Jane faces the ultimate question: Will she uncover her true identity, and if so, will she choose to leave the family she's come to love?
This book had me hooked from start to finish, with every page delivering a delightful mix of heart, intrigue, and romance. And yes, there are a few steamy moments to spice things up!

A delightful historical romance with an amnesia trope. After being thrown from her horse in a snowstorm, a woman is rescued by an Earl and brought to his manor. Upon awakening "Jane" has no memory of her life or who she is. The Earl and his family care for her injuries while trying to help prompt any memory to solve the mystery. Topics include grief, discovery, women's rights, love, and of course, witty banter. I received an ARC in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

This was the longest book ever. 😩

A year ago a family tragedy left Jasper with an earldom and five younger siblings to care for. He’d sworn off love, ghosted his friends and has been busy making himself miserable. While on a walk with his sisters, Jasper finds an unconscious woman in the snow. As it turns out, she has suffered a severe hit on the head and doesn’t remember who she is.

What I liked about this book was that Jasper had been in love before and that was the reason he was holding back. In a world of “safe books” I respect an author writing a hero who had loved and lost, and whose fiancée was a genuinely good person. It gave his character depth and it made him more relatable.

Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to enjoy this book. It started off well and initially I liked the writing, but then it went downhill.
My biggest complaint is that it was way too long. The constant push and pull between Jasper and “Jane” was repetitive, every single scene dragged and it took me forever to finish this book.

Another problem was lack of the historical accuracy. Everyone was on a first name basis with everyone, including ladies with gentlemen and earls with servants (?!). Gentlemen were visiting ladies in their bedchambers, gently bred ladies were calling an earl a “stern bastard” in a polite company etc. It all felt more like a corporate icebreaker team event than a romance set in Victorian England. I’m not sure if it was on purpose, to appeal to readers who never read a historical romance before, or if the author just hadn’t done her homework. In any case it didn’t work for me.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

A wonderful Regency era Romance to add to the list.

This is a fast-paced story helped by multi-POVs. It has the feel of grumpy man in Jasper with the "I don't need a man" in Jane. Their dynamics are entertaining and engaging. Their romance is a slow burn but worth the wait.

I loved the writing and the style especially as it had all the features I love in Regency era lit. It kept me turning the pages and I loved how it ended.

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled for the eARC of this book!

Missing the charm of Bridgerton? This book is the perfect fix! The story begins with a family stumbling upon a mysterious woman in the snow, seemingly thrown from a horse. Her final words before losing consciousness are, "Don't let them get me." When she wakes, she has no memory of who she is, kicking off a suspenseful and captivating journey.

Fortunately, she’s taken in by Jasper Maycott and his kind-hearted sisters. Jasper, burdened by past losses, has locked his heart away, but the enigmatic "Jane" begins to melt his defenses and find her way into his heart. The question is: will Jasper let her in, or will his sense of duty keep them apart? Dive into this enchanting story to find out!

Thank you #netgalley and #EntangledPublishing for this ARC.

"𝑰 𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒅 𝑰 𝒅𝒐𝒏'𝒕 𝒎𝒖𝒄𝒉 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒎𝒆𝒏."

Jasper was quite rude/curt in the beginning and it was a slow start for me, but the verbal sparring between him and Jane pulled me in. Being a fan of Jane Austen & especially Pride and Prejudice, I like this type of FMC. Plus, there were several mentions of P&P that I enjoyed. The Jane in this story doesn't need a man and can save herself. She has her own mind & is strong-willed. When the MMC is drawn to those qualities, even though it goes against Society, is when it becomes intriguing. He was stern, often rude and drowning in grief, but also incredibly protective of those he cared for. The family was lovingly chaotic. Trying to figure out what really happened to her was fun!

Overall, it was a fun, regency-era story for fans of Jane Austen and Bridgerton!

Great fun! Classic amnesia trope plus regency romance plus mystery. This cross-over worked really well. I read it all in one sitting and loved it!

As a huge fan of Entangled Publishing, I was thrilled to dive into my first book by Emma Theriault, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! From the very first page, I was completely captivated by the story and the characters.

Emma’s writing is so engaging and vivid; I felt like I was right there in the world she created. The plot was filled with delightful twists and turns that kept me turning the pages late into the night. I loved the dynamic between the characters—there was such a wonderful blend of tension, humor, and romance that made every moment feel electric!

What really stood out to me was how well Emma captured the nuances of her characters’ emotions and relationships. I found myself rooting for them every step of the way, and the themes of love and self-discovery resonated deeply with me.

If you’re looking for a book that combines wit, charm, and a touch of intrigue, I highly recommend!

This was a very cozy romance read. The characters are witty and the background family is fantastic. I found myself loving the sisters and aunt throughout the story.

The plot line was fantastic with some turns I didn’t see coming but it was a little long winded for my taste. Several times I felt like they had repeated the same conversation over again.

The writing style was well done with clear descriptions.

Jasper Maycott, Earl of Belhaven, is a broken man. A bout of scarlet fever took both his parents, elder brother, and fiancé in one foul swoop. As the spare, Jasper jumps into a role he never imagined he would take on. His three sisters and two brothers grieve with him, but Jasper puts his grief aside and gets on with life. All the Maycott's lives are tossed into chaos again when they find a bloodied woman in the snow on a frigid winter night.

Once the young woman regains consciousness, they all realize she can't remember her life before the moment she woke. The Maycott's agree to call the woman Jane and agree to help her recover in any way they can. Under the roof of Mulgrave Hall, Jane goes through several tests to see how much she knows in what a lady would be educated in. Some things she is useless at, yet other more unique talents are discovered. Things about her slowly come back as she and Jasper become much closer than they should. They discover their love of literature is something they have in common besides their instinctual physical attraction. While Jasper fights it with every bit of his being, he can't help himself. Love finds him and takes a hold of him, body and soul.

This is only the second book published by Emma Theriault and it has made me a fan for life. I love her third person writing style which you don't see much in romance novels these days. Yet, this type of writing style still gets you deep into each character's mind and heart. The authenticity of Jane's struggle to remember her past while contemplating what a future with Jasper could be was incredibly imaginative. I really felt the progression of Jane's memories coming back in small stages was a brilliant strategy. Jasper's journey in this story was an epic arc. Jasper, as well as Jane, learned holding too tight to the past could bring more heartache in the future.

While I don't know at this time if this is a series, there are plenty of Maycotts who also need to find love. The character I would like to see most would be Jasper's widowed sister, Helena. I know I won't be the only one who will want to enjoy more stories in this world Theriault has created.

I received A Lady Would Know Better for free. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

*I received an ARC of this book thanks to Entangled Publishing and NetGalley.*

This book was wayyyy too long to just be reiterating the same internal dialogues of both main characters. The chapters were extremely long and the time frame was quite confusing. It felt like weeks had passed and then you come to find out it has only been three days. In a span of a few days Jasper goes from swearing off love to professing his love of Jane and wanting to marry her, I’m not into insta love books and that is exactly what this is. I understand the time period difference but I don’t think courting back then is as different as it is today, the book was just highly unrealistic. Jane did not act the way she should have for the time period, there was talk about how she should behave but I didn’t get the ah ha moment when the author ties in the book title into the actual book itself because it never happened. The first 80% of the book was just rehashing the same ideas over and over again. The last 20% of the book was when something actually happened but was quickly resolved and anticlimactic. There was not much sustenance to the story. I found the book very lackluster and disappointing. It was just very hard to get through and I did not enjoy the book.

I thought this was a cute story, I loved the FMC in this story she seems very relatable and strong willed and the tragedies the characters have lived through will pull at your heart strings. The MMC defiantly gives off the grumpy vibes I love.

This book is a bit long winded for my taste, I felt like as soon as were were getting somewhere in the story it would take 5 unnecessary steps back to where we had just come from, and while there was so much back and forth with our main love interest in the story, when it came to the ending it felt very rushed.

Thanks to NetGalley and Entangled for a DRC of this title.

This was so lovely! I really liked that this was kind of a throwback premise with modern characters and sensibilities. If I were being nitpicky, the only thing I might say is that the romcommy cartoon cover doesn’t seem to fit the vibe of this book, which delves deeply into grief and identity, but I would definitely recommend this one to other lovers of historical romance! Looking forward to reading other books by this author. 4.25/5 stars.

This was a super cute romance. Strong feminist vibes and great side characters. The amnesia was almost beside the point, but it worked. I think the kitten named Mr. Darcy might be my favorite part. More kitten content, please.
