4.5 Stars!!
Jennifer Hartmann was a new to me author last year, and she has officially become a favorite. I'm convinced I'll love anything she writes. Her writing style has a way of making me feel deeply for the characters. The Wrong Heart wasn't any different. I was so caught up in them that multiple times I was laughing, swooning, or crying. This book was so heartbreakingly beautiful. While Melody has a traumatic past and heavy grief, her character was still the light you look for in a dark room. Parker is broken inside and didn't want to put himself back together until he met her. I ended this book feeling so tender for the both of them.
Jennifer Hartmann STAYS breaking our hearts and putting them back together. This DID NOT disappoint. I was invested from the very start. Will reread via audio as well.
Wow, this book was both heartbreaking and beautiful! I absolutely loved the couple—Melody and Parker had such great chemistry, and Melody is one of my all-time favorite romance characters. She’s like a real-life Rapunzel: sweet, kind, funny, and a baker—what’s not to love?
Parker, though a tough nut, was such a complex character. He’s been through so much, and his journey of healing had me tearing up. The ending totally blindsided me—I didn’t see that coming!
This story gave me all the feels. It’s raw, heartwarming, and reminds me of *The Notebook*—an epic love that spans more than just this life. It’s the second book I’ve read by this author, and I honestly think I loved it even more than *Still Beating*, which I didn’t think was possible. It’s emotional, healing, and absolutely beautiful. Highly recommend it! I’m going to miss this story so much.
This was such an incredibly raw, beautiful written and captivating story. Jennifer Hartmann sure knows how to pull at my heartstrings, but as with the other stories I have read by her, the strong emotional reactions are so worth it by the end. My heart just absolutely ached for both Melody and Parker throughout this entire story. I wanted their happily ever afters so freaking badly.
No surprise here - another 5 star read from Jennifer Hartmann!! This book will make you feel all of the feelings and lots of tears. The Wrong Heart covers so many real life traumas with loss, death, heartbreak but also covers love! Proof is in the pages that two broken people can heal and grow together.
Jennifer Hartmann does it again and breaks my heart!!! I have not read a book by her that was not above a four star rating! The book is not light. It is not “suns and flowers” type of love story. It has loss and grief in it. The first 100 pages or so are hard to read because of the sadness and depressive mood of it. The book deals with hard topics. The characterization is great, there are enough monologues and dialogues to get to know them. I knew going in the author would crack my heart wide open and slowly put it back together, and she did just that. She sets the bar high with every book and has yet to disappoint me.
4.5 star rating for this one! The plot twist is unexpected and I loved it. It took me by surprise. The book definitely convinces you about how real their love and connection is. I believed in it. I felt it. And I never questioned if she loved him as much as her husband or not. They were totally two very different relationships. This book was beautiful, in the most tragic of ways. These characters are so vivid and multilayered. My heart broke for both of them. If you're looking for a romance that will be a straight punch to the feels and that will stay with you for a long while, do yourself a favor and pick this one up.
This was my first book by Jennifer Hartmann and I absolutely was NOT prepared. Like normal, I went into this one completely blind, and oh my god. Going into a book blind has never been so fucked up. ☠️
This book follows Melody and Parker. After the loss of her husband, Melody is struggling with grief and it eating her alive. At her support group, she meets Parker - who struggles with his own sense of issues. He’s usually grumpy, bitter, mean, and stays far away from anyone that isn’t his foster sister.
Knowing that her husband’s heart was donated to someone, she thinks she found the person who got his heart and starts a little “online friendship” with him via email and instant messaging.
For the love of all that’s great, please make sure you read the trigger warnings. This one is dark, has a lot of triggering components like self harm, miscarriage, child abuse, and lots and lots of grief.
This little dark gem was spicy and a great way to get lost in a book. I also love that Melody goes from being someone’s sunshine / sun, to someone’s moon because it shows that we can continue to grow and that change isn’t a bad thing.
The Wrong Heart by Jennifer Hartmann was an emotional read. If you like opposites attract, scarred MMC, grieving widow, organ donor, opposites attract, trauma, slow burn, HEA, spicy, contemporary romances then you will love this book.
This book takes you on a journey with Melody as she is dealing with the loss of her husband. It was a realistic look at what it’s like to deal with losing your husband and the grief that takes over. Her husband’s heart went to someone in need. Melody meets Parker, who has her husband’s heart, at a suicide prevention group. Parker has had a rough life, is grumpy, and he is completely broken. His solution to not feel or get hurt, cut off as much human interaction he can. As different as Melody and Parker are and against Parker’s protests he lets Melody in. They are able to heal each other in ways no one else could.
Hartmann writes amazing stories that take you through emotional and healing journeys. She writes stories with amazing storylines and plots. They are authentic, raw, gut wrenching, beautiful, and spicy. She goes straight for the heart breaks it into a millions pieces then she eventually puts back together. I would recommend this book to anyone and the audiobook adds to the story even more. Thank you to Bloom Book and NetGalley for letting me read this ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts and opinions.
This was my first book by Jennifer Hartmann and I can't wait to pick up her others! Wow! This one had me feeling so many emotions. I felt deeply connected to the characters and their stories. This book broke my heart so many times, but had me smiling just as much. This author does an incredible job with detail. Highly recommend!
I've read several books by Jennifer Hartmann and have enjoyed all of them. This one was no exception. There were several things I liked about this story. The complete opposites attract aspect, both back stories, their interactions with each other.
However, one thing really bothered me. Parker was gruff and stoic -- which fit his personality. He didn't speak eloquently and was often tongue-tied. But then he's suddenly poetic and has these running monologues... It just didn't jive. I wish he had been clumsy when he tried to talk to her instead of suddenly seeming like a different person.
This is the first book I read by Jennifer Hartmann and man this one was so good but also so tough to read.
Jennifer brakes my heart multiple times with this story but also puts it together in the most beautiful way.
Melody and Parker are amazingly described so are the side characters (especially Walden). This comes from the dual point of view (my fav) the book is written in. Otherwise, I’m not able to love Parker this much and he is not easy to love (but worth it).
You think this book can be shorter? No. It takes baby steps and therefore a long time until Parker learns how to love Melody.
The Epilogue(s) is (are) amazing by showing how much the human soul can overcome and be happy again.
The Wrong Heart by Jennifer Hartmann is an emotional rollercoaster that hits you right in the feels. The story is raw, beautifully written, and filled with heartbreak and healing. The characters are deeply flawed yet relatable, making their journey all the more impactful. I was completely drawn into the themes of grief, love, and second chances, and it kept me turning pages late into the night. It’s a poignant and powerful read that lingers long after the final page.
The Wrong Heart is an absolute gut wrenching novel. @author.jenniferhartmann always gets me with the seriousness of her topics and the way she handles them, but this one truly sets itself apart. It’s been a long time since I loved a book as much as I loved Still Beating*. This one is definitely tied for being my favorite.
Melody and Parker are such a study in grief and trauma. It was absolutely gutting to read what they went through and how both of them were dealing with it. I am so glad that we got to watch them find each other and learn how to move past it all.
*Other than the angst, this is book is nothing like Still Beating.
Definitely recommend for anyone looking for heavy topics, including mental health and grief. Please check the trigger warnings before starting.
*******TW--- Suicide***********
wow.... that was quite a ride. This was alot of feelings. Im not usually triggered by suicide but i felt that this was so emotionally charged and i was not in the best mind space.
I feel that if i write more, it would give things away. I feel that you need to go in somewhat blind to fully appreciate this book.
Thanks NetGalley for this ARC.
THIS BOOK WAS SO PAINFULLY BEAUTIFUL.. I don't think there are any other words to describe it that sums it up so perfectly.
I haven't read anything else this year.. it put me in a slump because once again, Jennifer has put me in a state of wonder and confusion that has me re-evaluating my life.
I really enjoyed this. It was my first of this author and she writes such an emotional story! I really enjoyed the twists that this had as well. I would definitely recommend this book to friends!
This book absolutely wrecked me I can't express enough how much I loved it. I cried, I laughed, I cheered, I mourned, I celebrated. If you’re looking for a tear-jerking, heartwarming, and hope-filled romance, look no further. This book was a beautifully devastating ride from start to finish.
Thank you to the publisher for this arc in exchange for an honest review!
Honestly, Jennifer Hartmann never misses for me. As always, her books hit every emotional chord I possibly have. This book was an emotional rollercoaster and felt with some very heavy topics. I laughed, I cried, I grieved. Parker and Melody deserve all the love in the world. Owen is so precious and I loved the almost big brother like relationship Parker developed with him. The little twist I honestly didn’t see coming. The ending had me choking down tears while also smiling. Just beautiful.
This was such a beautifully written story of love and loss. It touched on sensitive subjects like mental health and suicide, which are rarely addressed in books especially in the romance genre and I deeply appreciated that. The complexity of the characters added so much depth to the story, and I found myself truly captivated by the journey.
The narration was incredible, bringing every emotion love, grief, loss, sadness, and heartbreak to life. Jennifer’s writing never fails to amaze me, and this book was no exception. It’s a story that I’ll carry with me for a long time. I especially loved how the narrative gave us both the beginning and the end. So often, we’re left to wonder about the characters’ futures, but this story provided a full circle resolution, which I found incredibly satisfying.
While I occasionally felt frustrated with the characters, it only underscored how deeply invested I was in their journey. The character development was exceptional. We see these individuals go from being broken and lost to becoming the best versions of themselves. It’s rare to notice such a clear and intentional transformation in a story, but in this book, it was beautifully evident.
The relationship dynamic between the main characters was heartbreaking yet profoundly beautiful. Reading from the perspective of a grieving character added a layer of realism that was both eye opening and deeply moving. It’s a reminder that trauma and loss can touch any of us and that resilience and healing are possible.
The biggest takeaway for me was the powerful message to keep fighting, no matter how dark things may feel. This book is a poignant reminder that, even in our darkest moments, the sun will shine again.
Jennifer Hartmann did not disappoint. Her books always make me questions what I would do in that situation and she doesn’t care to push social boundaries.
