Thoughts:
Jennifer Hartmann is an amazing author. Her 'Pen' is something so incredible. She writes the saddest stories, yet she seems to always capture the beauty within the saddest.
I would recommend this, but please read the trigger warnings as there are heavy themes.
Jennifer Hartmann is my current author obsession, and I want to read everything i can get my hands on by her. This was yet another tragic emotional romance where the MCs find healing in themselves and in each other after tragedy strikes them both separately, and they come together in a suicide prevention support group. Beautifully written, you can really connect with the characters' emotions and know exactly how they are feeling throughout the book.
Another 5 star Hartmann read! From start to finish this book was fantastic. I loved all the little twists scattered throughout the story. The epilogue had me grabbing all the tissues and not knowing whether they were sad or happy tears. AND then Walden's story right after! So much crying in the best ways. Loved it!
Jennifer Hartmann can do no wrong - and this book is proof. This story was such an emotional rollercoaster - it had me crying (multiple times), and it had me praying for a happy ending.
Please note that this story is heavily based around loss, mental health, suicide and domestic abuse, so please read your trigger warnings.
Melody is sunshine. Her life is sunshine. She is happily married and has been with her husband for the past 7 years. But Melody's life turns black when he is suddenly taken away from her - leaving behind his heart for someone else. Someone who needs it. Through this tumultuous time, Melody goes through the motions, she ends up reaching out to her husbands heart recipient, though legally she shouldn't be... and she also winds up at a suicide support group. Enter Parker... he is brooding, he is cold.. he is the opposite to sunshine, and to her deceased husband Charlie. But Melody is drawn to him. Together can they help each other come out of their dark place? Or will the secrets that surround them get in the way?
This story was just beyond beautiful. It was heartbreaking, and emotional and it had me turning the pages and not wanting to put it down. It is told in dual POV - both Melody and Parker's. You couldn't help but fall in love with these characters.
If you love Jennifer Hartmann books you wont be disappointed with this one.
“The right words are easy when they come from an unselfish place. Don’t listen to anyone who doesn’t have your best interest in mind, babygirl.”
"I’m Charlie’s sun, and I’m Parker’s moon. I can be both. I’m an eclipse." 😭😭😭
✨️ grumpy/sunshine
✨️second chance
✨️friends to lovers
The emotional turmoil that I went through because of this book me is unbelievable. Jennifer Hartman is the queen of emotional turmoil. Be prepared for a roller-coaster of emotions from this book, but if you've read Jennifer Hartman before then, this is probably what you're looking for.
It's best going blind and I don't want to give away too much of tbr book without revealing any spoilers but this is a book about loss, and grief, depression to healing, hope, about love. A reoccurring theme to dark and light. This book is hauntingly beautiful.
Melody and Parker, though. Goodness, they did a number on me. Melody loses her husband and in her grief, seeks out her the recipient of her husbands heart transplant. She finds Parker, and there's this instant pull to this man with such a darkness. This is their story.
However, this book may have triggers for some with the loss of a loved one and self-harm.
Thank you to Netgalley and Sourcebooks Bloom Books for this arc in exchange my honest review.
A good story overall with flawed characters but engaging and heartbreaking. It was a beautiful storyline wonderfully told .
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review book
**ARC REVIEW**
3.5 ⭐️
The beginning of the story was so interesting and beautifully written. Then the middle kind of dragged on. I was starting to get bored and felt like the book was too long. The conflict felt unnecessary. Then the ending was perfect until the epilogue. I could’ve been fine without reading the epilogue but I get why it was there. I’m gonna be honest this book was depressing but it had to be for the story to work. I really liked both characters. I loved watching them go through their struggles and come out of the darkness together. Overall I enjoyed this book just wish it was shorter.
Thank you Netgalley and SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books for letting me read this ARC for an honest review.
I love Jennifer Hartman books and this one was no exception. Her characters were believabley flawed and you could feel their heartache and loss. I was in the mood for a good cry and I got one, or maybe 3 as I read through this lovely story.
This book gave me all the feels. I laughed, I cried, I wanted to throw it across the room. Jennifer Hartmann is becoming an automatic buy for me and this one is no exception. It was incredible.
Thank you NetGalley and Jennifer Hartmann for the chance to read this.
This was my first Jennifer Hartmann book, and now I need them all.
This book shatters your heart. This book makes you believe in true love.
The story follows Melody, who has suffered a tragic loss, and Parker who suffered a horrible childhood and doesn’t believe in love. Together they heal, together they grow, and together they make you believe that there can be happiness after the darkest moments.
As a child of neglect, the emotions Parker experiences are so very real, and the author shows that so well.
I loved this book so much. I didn’t plan on waking up at 6 AM on vacation and crying, but that’s what happened with the last 20 percent of this book.
This book was so tragically beautiful. I hate that there isn’t much talk about this one!
The pain and loss that was shown in the book, the way they chose to cope…it was just so well done. I’m certain that Hartmann is unable to write a book I don’t thoroughly enjoy.
If you love a cut and dry cute romance, this one won’t be for you. This one was deep, moving, and gut wrenching in the best way. I felt every word of this book.
You definitely get a little grumpy sunshine in this book. I loved Parker’s character. Rough edges and all. His character was so fun to watch develop. To find his footing in everything new he’s experiencing. The amount of emotions I went through while reading this one was intense.
Hartmann is re-releasing this book December 30th, if you love an emotional yet beautiful read, this one should be on your TBR
I believe this novel is getting republished, which is how I was fortunate to receive an ARC. Thank you so much Bloom Books | Sourcebooks! I devoured this one. The revised publication date is December 31, 2024.
Now let me preface this review with the fact that this book had me weeping. Not just once...multiple times. Certain topics and moments scattered throughout truly gutted me. I went into this book blind and I highly recommend doing that but I think doing that set me up for a little more unprepared heartbreak. This is my second book by this author so I expected tears but this book really gutted me. Jennifer Hartmann's writing style is so unique and I love that she provides so much in one book. She will surely have you feeling all of the feelings.
This story takes you through the span of an entire lifetime in less than 400 pages. As a reader, you will be completely engaged and feel connected to each of the characters. The plot is orchestrated in the most seamless manner. The tension between the main characters is palpable and it will have you at the edge of your seat. There are no dull moments.
This is an easy four-star book. For myself, I definitely teeter closer to the 4.5 star line however, I'm rounding down because the ending had me yearning for just a bit more information.
If you enjoy adult, contemporary romance this is for you. I highly recommend this book and this author. I look forward to reading more of her books.
As always, all thoughts are my own. ✨🖤
Oh Jennifer- how I love you! I craveeee her dark romance books. I loved this one. The relationship was great, the steaminess was next level. I will continue to read her books!!
I’ve heard a lot of great things about this author so was very pleased to be given a chance to arc read this.
Not my usual type of book, this is very heartfelt and emotional!! It truly grips you and I even had watery eyes towards the end!
Perfect for anyone who love an emotional read! Beautifully written and very easy to follow and understand!
I am not okay right now 😭😭 I knew this story was gonna be sad, but dang it Jennifer, you had me crying the whole last 20% of the book 😭😭😭
I love an angsty and tension filled book with an intriguing storyline and Jennifer Hartmann has delivered this for me again! This book pulled so many emotions from me. It was so heartbreakingly beautiful.
The story follows Melody and Parker, two broken people who met at a suicide prevention group. Melody lost her husband, and Parker was a defeated man who faced so much suffering in his life.
"We are both two broken souls, fractured in opposite ways. She loved and lost… And I was lost before I could ever love at all. "
It was through each other that they each healed and learned to love again. The way that their relationship and chemistry developed throughout the story felt so authentic. Even the spice felt emotional. This was truly a beautiful romance. I was rooting for these characters so damn hard. Even the secondary characters.
Through grief, pain and heartache, Melody and Parker learn to live again. Heartwarming and heartbreaking all at the same time. It reminded me to appreciate all the little things in life and that each moment is precious.

Jennifer is the only author I trust to completely shatter my heart and put it back together again.
This book was unbelievably tragic with both Melody and Parker surviving so much pain and heartache but it was also so beautiful. This book showcases the highest highs and the lowest lows and how hard the struggle is to simply survive when you are at your lowest. That in the end all the hard work was worth it.
I loved how flawed and vulnerable Melody and Parker were and how they dealt with their trauma in completely different ways. They were the definition of grumpy/sunshine even if Melody felt like an extinguished sun.
Their connection felt kismet and I absolutely loved their healing journey and how they found comfort and peace with each other, after an incredibly rocky road.
This book was absolutely worth the roller coaster ride of emotions. I can’t wait to add this new stunning cover to my Jennifer shelf
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc of this book. This book follows the dual perspectives of the female main character Melody and the male main character Parker. Melody's life is turned upside down when her Husband is killed on their anniversary. Both main characters embark on an emotional journey in this book. This book does address some series issues such as suicide and grief. The main characters journey sucked me in, I could not put this book down.
I’ve always been drawn to stories about loss, healing, and starting over, but this author takes those themes and blends them with passion and intensity in a way that feels fresh every single time. Even though I’ve read books with similar themes before, there’s something uniquely raw and relatable about how this story unfolds.
The way the author captures the fears of losing someone, the tangled mess of grief, and the tentative joy of finding a new beginning is so vivid, it feels personal. On top of that, the steamy, electrifying chemistry between the characters adds another layer of emotion, making every connection feel deeply authentic.
This book explores not only heartbreak and healing but also the fiery, complicated dynamics of desire and intimacy. If you enjoy deeply emotional, well-written stories with a dash of heat, this one is absolutely worth reading.
When faced with significant tragedy how it effects you can forever change your life.
The Wrong Heart took me on a roller coaster of emotions and that was just without the romance aspect of it all. After Melody loses her husband to a robbery gone wrong she struggles and she struggles until she feels there is no other way out.
Parker has been dealt a bad hand since he was young and withdraws from everyone except his sister who loves him unconditionally.
I loved the healing aspect that this book had in so many ways, but I will admit that Parker made it hard to like him let alone not want to punch him in the throat with how he treated Melody. Their road to happiness is rough but is well deserved.
