This book messed me up in the best way, like all Jennifer Hartmann books do. They are heart-wrenching and gut-punching, all wrapped up with the fact that I simply cannot stop reading once I pick it up. I loved the characters and the twists & turns. At times I was confused about who was telling the story (POV) but once I got about halfway through, it was smooth sailing.

Thank you Netgalley for a copy of this book.

The story follows Melody, and her navigation of life after losing her husband. She joins a lifelines support group, where she meets Parker, a visibly closed off and very emotionally unavailable man.

The two make an unlikely pair, but in time, we learn just why their stories connect.

The Wrong Heart is a dual POV that follows Melody March as she navigates life after the sudden passing of her husband. Along her journey, she meets Parker Denison, a man who is struggling through his own past and trauma. As they get to know each other they slowly start overcoming their individual wounds. This book also contains heavy topics such as, but not limited to: grief, loss of a loved one, self-harm, suicide, and child abuse.

While I enjoyed the premise of the novel, it was not for me. While I appreciated the discussion of the heavier topics and interactions between Parker and Melody as they worked through their relationship, the overall plot did not feel satisfying. At times the pacing felt off or there were points that I felt could have been expanded upon for smoother transitions.

Thank you NetGalley and Bloom Books for gifting me the opportunity to read this ARC! All opinions are my own.

This is my sixth Jennifer Hartmann book that I’ve read, and this one is HANDS DOWN MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE! Jennifer’s books always start off devastatingly heartbreaking, but she always finds a way to bring you all back together at the end, and this book was this to a T. Everyone should pick this one up when it comes out on December 31!

Loved it! It was a tragically sweet story. The grief of losing a spouse was written authentically and from a place of respect. It shows the struggles of being human and that life goes on even when you’re numb to it all. The characters aren’t prefect and remind us that growth and change are necessary.

"All broken things can be fixed. The hard part is deciding that they're worth fixing."

The Wrong Heart is a beautiful and heartbreaking second-chance romance that will hit you with all the feels and leave you with a story you never saw coming. This story is deep, and heartwrenching, and will take you on one heck of a journey. It's just the angsty read I never knew I needed.

I'll definitely be checking out more from this author in the future.

All I can say is WOW.

Jennifer Hartmann has a way with her words. She writes the most heartbreakingly beautiful stories that never fail to make me smile and cry.

As soon as I read what this story was about, I knew I had to read it immediately. The way this story was woven was so beautiful.

We meet Melody on a happy moment in her life. She is out with her husband and everything is perfect. Until it’s not. Her world gets thrown upside down and she doesn’t know how to handle it all.

We also meet Parker. A man who has a horrible past and a grumpy disposition. We don’t know his reasoning for being in the hospital at the beginning, but we can only assume what it’s for.

These two meet in the most unlikely of places at the most unlikely of time. They need each other, but they are both stuck in the past. Melody is trying to find her sunshine again, and Parker is trying to work through his past and put his sights on the future, which is Melody.

This story has me in tears, but it also had me smiling at times. There were so many sweet moments that stuck out to me. Parker worked through so much to get to Melody. He did so much for her, both big and little. Melody had to work through her own thoughts, but she was always there for Parker, whether he wanted her there or not. Their happy ending was the sweetest thing to read.

Thank you so much Netgalley and Jennifer Hartmann for this ARC. This was a wonderful story.

Jennifer Hartmann books never disappoint. I surprisingly hadn’t read this one yet, so I was really happy I was chosen to review it.

Melody and her husband are out celebrating their anniversary when tragedy strikes and Melody is suddenly widowed. Parker has been through the worst of the worst in life and is a pretty miserable, grumpy person (rightfully so). Their lives intertwine in multiple ways and the roller coaster of their story begins.

One of my favorite things about this story is the fact that there was a twist towards the end I didn’t see coming. I knew something was coming, but didn’t actually guess the real twist and so thats always a pleasant surprise for me.

If you’re a JH fan and you haven’t read this one yet, check it out. I really enjoyed it!

Jennifer Hartmann really knows how to rip your heart out. This book is a beautifully written masterpiece. It’s poetically written and has so many musings about life, mental health, and how to heal after experiencing trauma.

I would definitely recommend you don’t read this book if you’re feeling down and depressed, or having struggles with your own mental health. Prioritize your wellbeing.

This is the ultimate grumpy sunshine romance. The two main characters almost don’t make sense at first but their chemistry inevitably draws them together to make an unbreakable connection. This couple has my heart.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Bloom Books for proving me with this advanced copy.

📚 ARC Review 📚

The Wrong Heart⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

After losing her husband in a tragic accident on their wedding anniversary, Melody is now dealing with her grief. One of those ways, is by contacting the recipient of her husbands heart via email. She has also been going to a support group, where she meets Parker. He’s grumpy and very closed off. The opposite of what Melody is. Even though she’s been through a lot, she still lets her smile shine like the sun.

Everyone irritates him and he doesn’t even want to be at support group, but Parker goes because his sister wants him to. Half the time he takes a nap during group discussions. Well that was before she started coming. Melody has captured his attention and he finds it annoying that he can’t stop thinking about her and that smile.

Where to start…this book will make you feel all the emotions. It deals with heavy topics, such as loss of a loved one and self-harm/suicide but also is a beautiful story of recovery and finding love again after loss. The growth that both characters have is amazing, given their past. Even the side characters are ones you want to know more about. This is not a closed door romance and does have heavy topics throughout, so be sure to check the trigger warning before starting. Overall, this was a really good book.

This book will publishes on December 31, 2024. Thank you Netgalley and Sourcebooks Bloom Books for my advanced readers copy. This is my honest and voluntary opinion.

5 stars, I honestly couldn't put this book down and highlighted so much of it. It was definitely hard to read, but it was so raw and real.
It delves into dark topics of self-harm and suicide and grief, so check trigger warnings! Melody has lost her husband in a tragic accident, and she gets in touch with the recipient of her husbands heart. She's dealing with her grief and just wanting to have a conversation with the recipient. Melody is going to a support group where she meets Parker. He's grumpy, very closed off, and emotionless. Melody is the opposite. She still smiles even through everything she's been through. Melody and Parker's relationship had so many ups and downs, and getting to see them both struggle and navigate the relationship and open up was so hard but heartwarming at the same time. There were twists I definitely didn't see coming. I think this book will stick with me for a long time! This is my first book by Jennifer Hartmann and definitely won't be last. Thank you to Net Galley, Bloom Books, and Jennifer Hartmann for the ARC!

Jennifer does it again... whenever I need a good cry, I know I can rely on her to bring the tears.

This was such an intense story of loss, grief in its most raw form, a second chance/ a first chance... and at the heart of it all, the undeniable truth that you are worthy of so much love no matter what life has dealt you.

Melody and Parker have such heartbreaking pasts, and the way they are able to find love and strength in each other despite it all is absolutely beautiful. They were the truest definition of the grumpy/sunshine trope, and I absolutely loved watching the transformation that Parker, especially, goes through.

The epilogue absolutely broke me in the best way possible. We should all be so lucky to have a beautiful ending like that. 🖤

Unfortunately this one just wasn't the book for me. I liked the idea of it, but it overall just fell completely flat for me. I couldn't ever get myself to like Parker or Melody at all, I understand their trauma and that was sad but man they really irritated me. Charlie and Melody were so adorable for the small time we got to see of them tho.
Regardless of how I felt still a big thank you to NetGalley and Bloom Books for the early edition of this second release.

The emotional gauntlet that I went through while reading this book… whew. It is a heavy read but so so worth it. The heartache, the hope, the pain, the vulnerability - the surprises!

Melody and Parker are characters that will stay with me for a long time. Both characters have broken hearts for wildly different reasons and reading about their journey of healing and moving forward was beautiful. So glad Bloom is re-releasing this because it deserves to find the largest audience.

This was an absolutely stunning story. It was a bit heavier than I was ready for at this time but once I got reading I quickly fell in love with the characters. So much heartbreak, so much trauma and yet so damn beautiful.

The relationship between the MCs had me frustrated a few time because it was so back and forth. He was a mess, she was a mess. It was just MESSY. But it made for such a captivating page turner. I’m so glad I got the opportunity to read another one of Jennifer Hartman books. Even though this is a romance, it’s veering towards dark romance territory in my opinion and has very heavy themes throughout the book. I recommend it for someone who likes a highly emotional romance with dark themes.

A very big thank you to @netgalley , @read_bloom , and @author.jenniferhartmann for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC.

5 stars for The Wrong Heart by Jennifer Hartmann - originally published Aug.2021 — being re-released 12/31/2024. The cover has changed (I like the new one so much better. I hope they update it on all platforms) I’m not sure if anything else has been changed from the original.
**“We are both two broken souls; fractured in opposite ways. She loved and lost… And I was lost before I could ever love at all.”**
This book is a journey of emotions through hope and heartache; through healing and forgiveness. Highs and lows and all the real work in between.
This will be the book I will compare all future romance novels to.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bloom Books for the early edition of this second release.
