I am always excited when I see a new Joy Ellis book. This one was as good as all the others I have read. Her characters and descriptions are exceptional. I hate giving long descriptions of the story of books I read, so suffice to say this was full of twists and turns and kept me guessing until the end. A worthy finale to the Nicky Galena series.
It’s 5 stars from me!

When DI Nikki Galena's mother, Eve, bumped into a person from her past, she and her good friend Wendy were astounded. Apparently Justin had bought the rundown old Jacobs Mere House, and with both Eve and Wendy having worked with Justin's father Lionel, they knew each other well. It was the morning after Eve and Wendy had dined with Justin, with lots of memories to catch up on, much laughter and promises to see one another again, that the grim discovery was made - Justin had been murdered.

Nikki and her partner Joseph Easter, were immediately on the scene, and with two previous suspicious deaths in the same amount of days, this one being the third, Nikki's team were stretched thin. With Eve and Wendy the last to see Justin alive, apart from his killer, Nikki decided they could quietly investigate in different areas. Their past jobs before retirement meant they had access to much - maybe even more than Nikki had. But would their combined efforts help to discover the killer/s before another person died?

Echoes on the Fens is the 15th in the DI Nikki Galena series by Joy Ellis and I loved it! I'm thoroughly enjoying this gritty, tension filled and chilling series, and although I've jumped from #10 to #15, there was no issue for me. The team of characters all work well, and it's great that they all have a supportive superior. I'll be reading #11 soon and recommend this one - in fact the whole series - to fans of the genre!

With thanks to NetGalley & Storm Publishing for my digital ARC to read and review.

I eagerly await novels by Joy Ellis, and this book was no exception. I like the way the plot starts off gradually, with tidbits of family life, and it then increases in complexity. The inclusion of Eve and Wendy is always great, as their sleuthing adds to the plot. I enjoyed the crossover of crimes that lead to involving the other DI in the station, as well as including the sergeant from another series of Ellis’ books. The plot is intricate and multilayered and certainly keeps you up reading just ‘one more chapter’.

Joy Ellis never fails to disappoint and this was no exception. Warm fire, good food. Great read. I was in my happy place again.

Wow , how can this be book 15 of the Nikki Galena series already and as some one who has always enjoyed Joy Ellis's novels this is no exceptiotion, its been nice seeing how Nikki and Josephs relationship has developed over the years not only as police detectives but also in their romantic life and how Joeseph has helped Nikki to mellow from the angry woman she used to be at the start.
I did feel this was a little disjointed as there were two crimes being investigated at the same time and you do have to suspend your belief a bit for it to make sense. and it was good having a little crossover with one her other Detectives, Marie Evens and of course the flamboyant pathlogist Rory, is always a delight depsite the difficult job he does. My only worry is the ending had an air of finality too it, which I hope I am wrong about, I wll just have to be patient and see.

DI Nikki Galena #15

Family dynamics is what makes this series more enjoyable. Nikki and Joseph don't just work together, they are partners in their personal lives too. There's also Nikki's mother, Eve, and Joseph's daughter, Tasmin. Nikki and her team are trying to solve three murders. Three people from different backgrounds - two women and a well-known local celebrity.

There was lots going on in this book, but it's so well-written it makes it easy to read. The pace is perfect. I love Eve and her effort to help Nikki solve the case. The characters are well-developed and likeable. The plot is multi-layered. This book can be read as a standalone.

This is a terrific addition to this excellent series featuring DI Nikki Galena, her partner (in both senses of the word) DS Joseph Easter and their team at the Fenland Police. Their workload has suddenly got quite busy with two major new cases. Firstly, a malicious campaign against a grief counsellor is ruining her reputation and turning away her clients and now her employee has been killed in a hit and run making the police concerned for her safety. Secondly, a TV celebrity who has recently bought and restored an old house in the Fens is murdered in his home. In neither case is the perpetrator and their motive obvious and Nikki and the team soon find themselves with two very complex cases that keep becoming even more complex..

With plenty of twists, the two strands are cleverly woven together into an exciting plot. The broodiness of the fens and its’ little villages is well drawn as always and it’s always pleasant to spend time with these characters and their families and friends.

This is the latest in the DI Nikki Galena series, set in the Lincolnshire Fens.

A very wealthy widow is found dead in her bed, apparently from an overdose, but Nikki isn’t comfortable with the cause of death. The next day, there’s another death when a young woman is the victim of a hit-and-run. While Nikki and the team are trying to work out if there’s any connection between the two women, a third body is found. This time, it’s a young man – a well-known and popular television presenter - and he’s found on the floor of the dining room in his beautiful country house.

The last person to see the young man was none other than Nikki’s mum, Eve. Eve and her friend, Wendy, just happen to be amateur sleuths and they want to help Nikki and her team as much as they can.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author, and it worked well as a standalone. I enjoyed it very much and would highly recommend it.

Thank you to NetGalley and Joffe Books for an advance reader copy in return for an honest review.

It's been a long time without Nikki and Joseph and I was so happy to be able to read Echoes on the Fens! Even though it's about murder it feels very cozy as they all have a kindness on them. Maybe it's also the setting, because I imagine all the cute little cottages :).

This murder devastated me this time, because the Victim was such a great, interesting person and he would have been fun and great to keep around. The precious Golden girls ( you know who!) were also involved and it made such a fun read.

The ending was great and sentimental. Thank you!!!

Another excellent, well written addition to the DI Nikki Galena series, which never disappoints. It's great to revisit the cast of characters, from Nikki to Eve and the whole team. As usual, the plotting and characterisation is very believable and the atmospheric Fens setting is beautifully described. Three different cases in this latest book keep the entire team busy with their investigations, right up to that ending we have all been waiting for! Thanks to Net Galley for this excellent read in the Fens series, I think this must be the best yet.

A woman dead in a questionable suicide. A young woman killed in a hit and run accident. A TV personality shot to death in his dining room. Three seemingly unrelated cases. Or not. Detective Nikki Galena and her team are stretched thin investigating these cases so she relies on help from her mother Eve and her friend Wendy. Eve was once in love with Lionel, whose son Justin was killed in the historic stone mansion he planned to restore. Links between the cases are found and discarded until a surprise breakthrough leads to a totally unexpected conclusion.

ECHOS ON THE FENS is the latest in the excellent Nikki Galena series. Characters you feel you know are joined by some you wouldn’t want to and mixed in a complicated, satisfying plot. The Lincolnshire location and the fens add atmosphere. If you enjoy British police procedurals, you’ll want to follow this one! 5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, Joffe Books and Joy Ellis for this ARC.

Loved this one. The characters are people I’d like to know. The pace was fast. She vividly built a world I could envision. I think Joy continues her tradition of excellence. A very well written 5⭐️story that grabbed my attention from the beginning and didn’t let go till the end. DI Nikki Galena and the rest of her team work tirelessly to solve a string of murders. As the body count grows so does the list of suspects. And, I promise you will never guess the guilty one. Clever twist at the end that I never saw coming.

Without even reading it, I would give this book five stars, as Joy Ellis has gone from being something of an undiscovered gem in my eyes to being one of my favourite authors.
Finding Nikki Galena by pure chance was a stroke of luck and this new title is simply a continuation of excellent story lines and characters.

I really enjoy books by Joy Ellis. They are fast paced and entertaining. The plots and dialogue are sometimes a bit off the wall but I still enjoy them and look forward to the next one.

There sure is a lot going on in this book! So many crimes that DI Nikki Galena’s team can’t handle them all and DI Mercer has to step in and share the load. Between an overdose that appears to be murder, a hit-and-run that was definitely not an accident, and the death of famous celebrity, they’ve got their hands full. They believe that the overdose and hit-and-run are related, as both victims are associated with the local life coach/crystal shop owner Clare. She had already been receiving cancellations and bad reviews, but now it seems whoever is out for revenge is taking it to a completely different level. Would anyone really commit murder because they’re unhappy with her services?

As for the celebrity, he’s a renowned archeologist named Justin with a successful TV program who recently moved into the same neighborhood as Tamsin and Neil. Another connection is that his father was very close with Nikki’s mother, Eve, decades ago. So not only does his death cause a media frenzy, but it hits everyone in Nikki’s circle particularly hard.

Never ones to pass up the opportunity to put their skills to work, Eve and her friend/roommate Wendy offer to assist with investigating Justin’s murder. This time, Nikki is grateful for their help rather than frustrated with them for overstepping boundaries. One of the best parts of this portion of the plot is Justin’s dog, Bernie! I love how the author keeps him involved in the story and no one dismisses him as unimportant. Except for Justin’s sister, but she’s an overall terrible person, anyway!

There’s also quite the satisfying reveal at the end of the story regarding Nikki and Joseph’s relationship relative to their careers. I must say, that’s long overdue in my opinion! And I haven’t even mentioned the secrets buried underground! Although there’s so much to keep track of, the story flows seamlessly as usual. This author is incredibly talented at creating characters and locations that feel like home and this book is a perfect example of that.

Yet another crime thriller in the series.
The characters in this series are getting better and better. I am looking forward to the next one already

This one hits the ground running!
Nikki, Joseph and the team find themselves dealing with 3 apparently unrelated deaths which occur in rapid succession. One apparent suicide, a grief counsellor who suddenly starts losing clients and receiving death threats. A local television celebrity found killed in his home. Having not long been a resident there seems to be no obvious suspects.
As you can imagine when the celebrity turns out to be the son of one of Nikki`s mother, Eve`s, old friends and admirers there is no way she and her friend Wendy are going to stay out of the investigation.
With three active cases there is a lot going on.
Filled with twists turns, red herrings, the reader is lead up and down blind alleys until finally the light goes on at the end of the tunnel and everything comes together seamlessly.
A fantastic read that I couldn't put down.
Highly recommend this along with the previous books in the Nikki Galena series. Many thanks to Netgalley and Joffe books for the opportunity to read this one.

Joy Ellis is a wonderful storyteller and takes all her readers on a rollercoaster journey. This Nikki Galena is, in my opinion, the best one so far. Congratulations to Joy on a fantastic read.
