The rhymes were awkward but the lesson was good and I enjoyed the pictures. Anyone can decide to do what's right and learn to be nice to people. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
I actually liked this book a fair amount! Even though some of the rhymes were a bit clunky, I still enjoyed the author's idea to add something onto the last phrase, each phrase getting longer and longer. This gives the book an almost interactive feel, because readers can latch onto the pattern that the author is creating, and read (or sing!) along just by knowing the past lines. However, despite my admiration for the writing choices that the author made, I didn't like the plot. A squirrel educates Kiki on how to be kind and that alone changes her behavior completely? This is so unrealistic and such a lazy ending that even young readers will notice it and think that it's a bit odd. I would have liked to see a bit more development in Kiki that causes her to see what she's doing wrong and causes her to change her ways. If that were to be fixed, I would definitely give this book five stars. Lastly, the illustrations were awesome because they perfectly mirrored what was going on within the writing, and each aspect of the book complemented the others flawlessly.
This one was nice and cute! Cute way to rhyme and teach kids to be kind! Oop look at that! Colors of the book were pleasing and the illustrations was cute!!
A book with a simple heart – the lesson for a girl who does everything wrong, like scoff at people, hide their toys, fart a lot, and so on. That's all corrected and witnessed by a squirrel, which adds cuteness – which may be more necessary than you'd think. There are some odd design choices going on visually, and as for the text, we have not one repeating-and-ever-building thread, but two. Yes, we have the building line-by-line narrative of what she did, and then the ever-increasing-but-always-rhyming line of her name. And neither are perfect here – the line length changing for the narrative, losing the instant appeal it started with, and the name side of things being a bit forced. Still, it's fun for a while to see both sides of things expand, and the effort was just about worthwhile in the finish. I certainly don't think it's a four star read, mind, so three and a half it is.
I have used this book with some kids I tutor in English as their second language and it was easy to understand, very funny yet educational.
It generated the spark for some questions and topics for discussion.
I really liked the cute artwork used and the use rhyme throughout the book. I loved having the actions build up alongside rhyming descriptors of Kiki. I would have loved if the chalkboard writing was also in a chalk like font. Nice interactive activity for readers to continue the conversation afterwards.

I liked the idea of this book but neither the drawings nor the copy worked for me. And when I need to explain a picture book to my child, that's a clear sign that it doesn't work for her either. The moral of the story is very important though.
This is a really cute book. Would recommend for parents whose kids are having behavioral problems! Easy to understand and straightforwardn
“Cheeky Kiki Learns to Be Kind” is a delightful children’s book that follows the journey of a young girl named Kiki, who initially struggles with kindness and empathy. The narrative unfolds over the course of a week, showcasing Kiki’s unkind behavior towards her peers, which ultimately leads to her being left out and lonely.
At the end of the book, readers are presented with examples of kind actions that children can take in their daily lives. There is also space for them to write down their own ideas for practicing kindness. This interactive element encourages children to think critically about their behavior and fosters an environment where kindness is prioritized.
Overall, “Cheeky Kiki Learns to Be Kind” serves as both an entertaining story and an educational tool that helps young readers understand the impact of their actions on themselves and those around them.
Cheeky Kiki does a great job of teaching kids the consequences of being mean. Twiggy the squirrel watches as Kiki laughs at kids and hides their toys. Each day her behavior continues to grow worse and finally no one will play with her. Twiggy teaches her to be kind and soon she has friends. The illustrations by Dom Filipek are adorable. The book starts out adorably, as each behavior earns her a new rhyming adjective. Unfortunately, about half way through the book, the rhymes become clunky. The short snappy sentences are replaced by long ones and the rhythm disappears. This awkward poetry detracts from the story. This book would be a great teaching tool to emphasize lessons about acts of kindness, consequences to behavior, and taking action to change a wrong instead of being a bystander. Little kids will enjoy the silliness.
A super cute fun little read with my daughter. Her nickname is Kiki so she got a kick out the girl's name being Kiki. We enjoyed this book and I appreciated that it went over acts of kindness. We are definitely adding it to our nighttime reads!
This book was soooo cute! My daughter enjoyed it a lot and asked me to read it again for bed. Now, she keeps calling me cheeky or those around her.
Cute little book about a girl called Kiki, who starts off being really unkind to others.
It was read in a fun, rhyming verses which is more appealing to children but it really reminded me of the Wonky Donkey books.
As the story goes on, Kiki's unkindness gets worse, but then she learns how to start being nice.
This was a really sweet little book.
The book was really well written to get the points over by the author, who is a mental health nurse specialist.
The book teaches children to love who they are, to respect others, your friends and family and most of all, to be kind to yourself and others too.
The illustrations work well with the story.
It is 4 stars from me for this one - highly recommended.
