I received a gifted audiobook ARC from Netgalley. I voluntarily read it and am leaving an honest review.
I am OBSESSED and CANNOT WAIT to continue this series. I was happy to have some of my theories confirmed and loved being surprised by other things. Nisha remains an Auto read author for me.
Ugh. The Nightfire Quartet has so many aspects that I love so much. Nisha does such a good job developing characters and building unique and complex worlds. I think I enjoyed listening to this one as an audiobook over reading it as the narrator really captures the Asian culture with the pronunciations and diction. They also did a great job making the different character voices seem distinct with appropriate inflection.
Thanks so much for an ARC of the audiobook. <3
Storm of Ink and Blood is book three of The Nightfire Quartet. Zarya has been devastated by Rabin’s betrayal and finds herself fighting for the freedom of vanshaj workers in the city of Ishaan. The vanshaj are born into magical slavery, and Zarya finds out how to free them…but she needs Rabin’s help.
This book is full of adventure and I was invested in the story from the very beginning. In typical Nisha J. Tuli fashion, the world building and character development were fantastic. I loved that Zarya was able to explore her magic more. It was clear that she was becoming more confident in herself and independent. The romance was spicy and I loved that it didn’t get in the way of the storyline.
I listened to the audio which was fantastic. Shiromi Arserio did a fantastic job differentiating between characters and spoke clearly, even with the audio sped up.
Many thanks to Dreamscape Select and NetGalley for the advance copy!
Holy this was another great book in the Nightfire Quartet. Full of plot and lore and culture. I have so enjoyed learning new to me terms. Nisha is killing it. the narrators did a fantastic job and I liked the overall production of the audio. Can’t wait to read book 4! Thank you so much for this ALC opportunity.
This was so good! I loved seeing Zarya and Rabin finally communicating well and getting to see their relationship progress. I do love them together so much, but Rabin's actions (while understandable in theory) were giving angry toddler throwing a tantrum at the end when he didn't know where Zarya was. It was really fun to watch Zarya come to learn her powers more and become more confident in herself and her abilities. Zarya and Yasen's friendship is so elite, I'm obsessed with them and need even more of them in the next book. Also hoping we get to see more of Amrita again, as she was just chilling as a pregnant tree in this one and we didn't see much of her. There are a lot of characters in this series which made it a little confusing to remember who everyone is. BUT Nisha made it very easy to reference who characters are by including a glossary of names, terms, places, etc. at the beginning of the book for my poor forgetful brain as a refresher! Thanks Netgalley for the e-ARC!
I realized briefly upon beginning that this is Book 3, so I gotta go get books 1-2! (and then have to wait - wah - for book 4). I could tell from what I listened to that this is right up my alley and I'm going to absolutely love it. Big Nisha Tuli fan!!
Thank you to NetGalley for this eARC audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
I love this series so much and book 3 was just as good as the first 2! It is full of nonstop action, intricate world building, political intrigue and some spicy romance! I love these characters so much, they are so well written and complex. I love that Zarya now has such an amazing found family and people who love her, after such a lonely start in life! I'm a little anxious, but very excited to see what happens in the next book!
Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Select for the ARC of this audiobook for my honest review
I really enjoyed this audio book, it was so interesting. I know I’d be absolutely in love if I had read the first and second but even getting my bearings on where we were in the story it was easy and so interesting I felt just as connected to the characters. I really loved the characters and the magic is fascinating. I recommend but I’m sure it would be even better starting from the beginning !
I'll be publishing my review on Goodreads and StoryGraph 28th October and on Tik tok most likely will add to a monthly wrap up post with review the beginning of November.
Storm of Ink and Blood is the third installment of the Nightfire Quartet, following Zarya on her journey from basically a captive in a small area growing up mostly alone with her adoptive father to the chosen one who will save them all. I want to thank Nasha J Tuli for the fun glossary introduction cast of characters review. It did great at getting the reader back up to speed with who all the important characters are and a little snippet of their part in our story.
Zarya is basically hiding from Rabin in the city of Ishaan with Yasen. They may have went there with the intention of Zarya introducing herself to her half siblings, the Prince and Princess, but after arriving in the city it was clear that Vanshaj are treated really poorly and Zarya end up supporting the revolution in the city aiming to free them. Yasen is of course eager to help Zarya in this new adventure and is having a great time in a new city away from the expectations of his family. But we, the reader, know that the magical bond Zarya and Rabin share is going to mean they will have to work out their issues soon.
Zarya needs to learn more about her secret six anchor if she is ever going to be able to help the Vanshaj. The thing is she has a lack of control on her own. This could be due to focus as she is still fixated on Rabin or just on the time she has had with learning how to use her powers. Rabin has spent his time wisely though after returning to Andhera and Zarya’s fathers court. He is learning more about the bond and how to control the dreamscape they can enter together. I was the most interested in this part of the story since Zarya’s father is a bit of the unknown and Rabin seems to trust him but the prophecy Zarya is in the middle of seems to indicate he will kill her and steal her magic. There are some pretty big hints in this that Raja (Zarya’s father), isn’t really a good person and probably has done some pretty horrendous things but we will see how that all plays out in the next book I have some theories though from the hints dropped.
The romance and communication between Zarya and Rabin was at the forefront of the story and got a lot of time. My issue with the last book revolved around a miscommunication and Zayra’s overinflated (in my opinion) reaction to it. But that said, I was happy to see how their relationship progressed in Storm of Ink and Blood. Zarya is growing to trust herself more and more and because of that, she will give Rabin the benefit of the doubt. Rabin also does a great job of just expressing how he is feeling and never leaves Zarya in any doubt of his intension or wants. I liked that he was so honest with her.
“I love you. The more I’m with you, the more I love you. I want a name for us. I want to be the world to one another, and I want everyone to know it.”
We didn’t get a lot of time with the darkness that has been leaking into the realm and the demons that come from it. I do hope in the next book of the series this is explored more and we get some answers on that. I also would have loved to see Amrita, but she is busy being a tree and we get a small cameo of Vikram being grumpy and controlling. Hopefully that arc will sus out a bit more in the next book.
I am looking forward to seeing the wrap of of the series in the final book. I have a few theories about Rabin’s tattoo of a dragon, the bond between him and Zarya, Amrita and her tree transformation and the world in general. There are a lot of things to get some closure on and so it should be a wild ride to get to the end. Just happy that Rabin, Yasen and Zarya seem to be going into it all together.
Narration:
The nice thing about Shiromi Arserio as the narrator is I think she captures the feel of Asian culture in this. Her pronunciations and diction are fantastic for all of the worlds that source from Asian/Indian lore. She did well with all character voices and making them seem distinct and easy to tell who was speaking. My only complaint is really that I perfect multiple narrators if there are different PoVs but Shiromi did very well with both PoVs and capturing the different voice and feel of each. I was able to listen to this at my usual 1.5x speed.
The third installment of The Nightfire Quartet was fantastic! The new dynamics between characters built on the cliffhanger from the previous book, introducing a wealth of important new figures that enhanced the narrative rather than detracting from it. I appreciated that the spice wasn’t overwhelming; it had just the right amount of intensity, allowing the scenes to be more than mere smut—they truly contributed to relationship development. The main characters and their shifting perspectives were enjoyable, especially when they found themselves apart, each wanting different things.
However, I wished for a bit more depth in the battle scenes (I love a well-crafted battle), as they felt somewhat lacking. Additionally, I think the dialogue and confrontations between the main characters could have been more extended.
Overall, I’m certain I’ll be shedding tears when the next book arrives. I’m completely hooked on this series!
At this point I will devour anything Nisha writes! This was the best of the series, I loved all the character and relationship development we got in this book. And the world building she's done in this series is my favorite of her work yet. I really enjoyed this listen and the way she is telling this story.

Thank you so much, @netgalley, @nishajtwrites @dreamscape_media, and @secondsky, for the advance eARC and ALC of Storm of Ink and Blood.
@shiromi.arserio You're an amazing narrator and had me captivated the whole time!
So much has happened in this book, and I really enjoy that it's not overwhelming. The book is fast-paced but not overly that you miss information. The opening came in with a bang, literally! I loved all the new characters, good and evil. I really don't think Nishja can do any wrong with her books. That ending had me shooketh but excited for the 4th book ! I knew it was coming because Zarya hasnt met him yet but damn, I need book 4 now, haha.
I absolutely gobbled this series right up! I binged all 3 books within 2 days! Nisha has become one of my favorite authors so quickly. She always manages to keep me on the edge of my seat, rolling on the floor cackling, or kicking my feet and blushing. Her writing style is incredible. This series has absolutely altered my brain chemistry.
I love the relationship between Rabin and Zayra because it shows that not all relationships are perfect.
This is the third installment of the Nightfire Quartet. I am really enjoying the series and cannot wait to see how it concludes in book 4. I enjoyed that this book really expanded on the world. Zarya, our FMC, has finally left Daragaab. We got to see glimpses of a few other countries and meet new people. And it seems like Zarya has finally found what she is fighting for! As with the prior two novels, I enjoyed the quick pace and the writing style from Nisha Tuli (who has become an auto-buy author). I love the sass and humor that she uses.
I enjoyed the cast of characters, though I wished that we got to know some of the new characters a bit more. Zarya is a great FMC. She did annoy me in this book more than the others (lots of acting without thinking) but I think her sheltered background can explain some of that immaturity/naivety. Rabin is a great MMC as well. We got some Rabin POV here and I hope for more in the next book. And the shining star of this book is Yasen. He is the perfect best friend, and I loved his relationship with Zarya.
I both read the ebook version and listened to the audiobook. I really enjoyed the narration by Shiromi Arserio.
Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Select, and Second Sky for providing an ARC of this audiobook.
A Storm of Ink and Blood is a great addition to Zarya’s story! It did take me a little bit to get really into to the story, I think partly due to new characters and places early on. But once things started moving a bit I was fully invested! Cant wait for the final book!
I don’t know how I got so lucky recently with the NetGalley copies I have gotten. First, I get Sophie Lark’s Monarch, and now I get the 3rd book of a highly anticipated reads. Nisha J. Tuli has become one of my favorite authors since I first read “Trial of the Sun Queen” and this series is beautiful, too.
Admittedly, this book fell into that “Sequel Syndrome” to me. The beginning and middle had a lot of filler chapters that made the pace a little too slow for my liking. Maybe it felt slower because I physically read the first 2 books then listened for the 3rd book. Or maybe it was how political this particular book is, which isn’t one of my favorite tropes, but that ENDING! I LOVED IT! Nisha J. Tuli is such a talented author, whose ending made up for most of the book’s earlier slowness. Yasen and Zarya’s friendship continues to be the highlight of this story but getting a glimpse of a softer Yasen was everything I’ve been asking for. All around, I’m so excited for the 4th & final book to this series.
Storm of Ink and Blood by Nisha J. Tuli is the third book in the Nightfire Quartet. The story picks up right where it left off at the end of the previous book. Zarya and Yasen are in a new city as they throw themselves into the rebellion to free the oppressed. Rabin is back with Zarya’s father, trying to earn her forgiveness and prove his devotion to her. The story progresses and readers see a lot of action as Z and her crew make headway into fulfilling the prophecy.
I absolutely loved the first two books in this series and this one did not disappoint either! It was jam-packed full of rich world-building, action, and intrigue. I had a hard time putting the book down. Zarya’s personal growth was fulfilling and the friendships she has developed are truly heartwarming.
But overall I think this book is setting up an epic, likely heart-wrenching, finale to the quartet. I look forward to reading the next book whenever it comes out!
The narrator, Shiromi Arserio, does a nice job portraying the dynamic range of characters in a clean, crisp manner.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and author for granting me an ARC of the ebook.
I love this series but I felt like this book was too much "in between". I knew there were things that needed to be accomplished before they could really get back into the main plot but it was too slow for me this time.
I'm going to continue the series of course, I can't wait to read the finale and do recommended everyone read this series because it really is fantastic,.this just happens to be the book with the most downtime.
Thank you so much Nisha for the eARC. I am leaving my review voluntarily and honestly.
This series is seriously my favorite of Nisha’s. The world is rich without being overwhelming or confusing and oh my gods the food makes me hungry every time.
I couldn’t find a fault with this one if I tried. I absolutely love Zarya and Rabin. Their relationship feels so raw and earned even despite the existence of a bond. I also love Yasen and want to keep him forever.
I received and ARC and advanced listening copy of this book! This book of the three so far in this series has been my favorite! The world expanded, and zarya got to explore and become more comfortable with her magic which I loved. I felt like her motivations and goals were more laid out and she was confident in her choices! Dragon still 10/10 and the pacing of this book kept me entertained the entire time. Also the spice….hit the spot and I could feel the emotional connection between the characters and their bond seems to continue to grow and build. I’m so excited for the next book and to see how this story unfolds!
We rejoin Zarya and Yasen where shenanigans are already in progress....
Zarya is certain of her destiny and it’s to free vanshaj from their oppression and servitude. So naturally her and Yasen have joined a rebellion....
From the first page you are thrown right into the action. As always the story is very well written and you can’t possibly put it down once you get into it.
I love Zarya and though she tries she’s still a bit reckless and impulsive but her heart is in the right place so you can’t help but to love her anyway. It’s like after all the years Zarya spent in seclusion she has to make up for it by never having a dull moment in her life.
Can’t wait till the next one... even though it’s the last one so that’s sad but all good things must come to an end...
