Thank you to @getredpr, @amazonpublishing, and @rochellebweinstein for the incredible gift of this book and the cozy blanket.
Set against the stunning backdrop of the Vis Ta Vie Inn in the North Carolina mountains, this compelling story follows couples as they escape their everyday lives for a transformative week. Among them is a mother and daughter, each grappling with their own set of challenges.
The layers of drama, hidden secrets, heart-wrenching loss, deep love, and second chances weave a captivating narrative that pulls you in from the start. The author excels at bringing each character to life, creating memorable scenes—especially those poignant moments when buried pain and secrets come to the surface. The writing is refreshingly clear and straightforward, making it highly enjoyable to read.
The distinct multiple POVs are expertly crafted and enhance character development beautifully. The pacing is just right, with each perspective switch deepening your connection to the unfolding story.
If you’re drawn to themes of drama, secrets, and forgiveness, this book is a must-read. Mark your calendars—it will be available on February 25, 2025!
Five families all on the cusp of life-altering changes, brought together to the gorgeous mountain retreat of Vis Ta Vi. Each day begins with a curated menu of fine food and wine evoking emotions that allow secrets to surface. Some come for solace and some come to make memories but this year paths will cross, worlds will collide, and emotions will soar.
This is the third book I’ve read by this author and each time I feel like I’m right there with the characters of the story. The setting of this novel is very familiar to me-the North Carolina mountains. I could envision the trails, the shops, and the views which warmed my heart, but also left me feeling nostalgic for the time before the floods that happened just a couple of months ago. I felt a real connection to not only the setting but to some of the hardships the characters faced. This book shows the importance of being true to yourself.
We are Made of Stars
This was an interesting read and quite different from what I expected. There were so many characters, each with their own unique story and drama, all staying at this adorable inn owned by the most endearing couple. I really enjoyed reading about each character’s situation and was curious how it will all unfold. This novel was a solid four stars for me.
“What’s the point of creating something if not to enjoy it?”
“We are all made of stars”
I loved this powerful story set at the Vis Ta Vie Inn. A beautiful mountain setting in North Carolina where the couples have come to spend a week, leaving real life behind. Hike, relax, wonderful food and new friendships are made. Each of the couples including the mother/daughter all have issues to work through.
The story is told through the view points of the characters.
Drama, secrets, loss, love, second chances, complex human relationships. I was drawn into this book from the very first page.
Thank you NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for the opportunity to read this book.
We Are Made of Stars by Rochelle B. Weinstein is the story of good friends who all spend a week every summer traveling to the Blue Ridge Mountains to stay at the Vis Ta Vie Inn to catch up with each other and recharge their batteries. This summer, they all carry secrets and/or problems they do not wish to share with the others. Even the owners of the inn carry secrets.
Enter a single mom and her teenage goth dressing daughter to add to the drama. Things come to a head, as they usually do and they all must decide what their best next move is. Henry is an astronomer who tells them “We are all made of stars”. The guests and inn owners wish they could visit the stars.
The story keeps readers attention because the problems the characters are suffering are all too real. You will want to see how the couples, and the mom and daughter, resolve (or don’t) their issues.
At the Vis Ta Vie inn, Reneé and Jean-Paul De La Rue face the daunting decision to close their beloved home for good.
They’re not the only ones going through a season of change, though. Their guests include three couples in Hollywood celebs Leo and Penny are spending their silver anniversary together while on the cusp of divorce. Lucy, a practical-minded therapist, and Henry, an astronomer with his head in the stars, are struggling to find common ground. And former lawyer and current stay-at-home mom Sienna and charismatic sports agent Adam look perfect but are hiding rifts of their own. Thrown into the mix are self-absorbed single mother Cassidy and her sullen fifteen-year-old daughter, Rosalie.
The stage is set for a week of betrayals, regrets, and shocking truths that can rend the heart or heal it. Vis Ta Vie—live your life—captures what it means to love through the darkness, and to find the light even after the magic fades.
loved it. Will recommend to others
Oh, how I loved We Are Made of Stars. This is the second book of Rochelle B. Weinstein's that I have read, and the second one I gave 5 stars to, which is clearly a sign that I need to read her entire backlist. This story is told from multiple viewpoints with all of the various couples at the inn being represented with a POV from either one or both of them. I loved that Weinstein was able to structure it like this and still keep the mysteriousness of what each of their secrets were, some up until the very end! I was gasping and my jaw was dropping in some instances, and this book is literally full of surprises.
The setting of Vis Ta Vie Inn was beautiful, homey, and iridescent despite all the needed repairs, and it felt extremely vivid thanks to the author's writing style. Each character and relationship are perfectly sculpted and defined, so even though there are multiple viewpoints and lots of them to keep track of you are always firmly aware of who each person is. This was also what I would call a total foodie read, and I loved that each day started off with the menu for the guests. The food descriptions made my mouth water, and I longed to be at the inn. Read this if you love lots of drama, twists that will make your head spin, and astonishing secrets!
I loved how We Are All Made of Stars dives into the complexities of human relationships. The novel explores how our pasts linger, shaping and challenging us in unexpected ways. Through multiple characters and intertwining stories, it confronts profound questions: What can we truly live without? What is forgivable? And how do we define family in the face of secrets and struggles?
One of the book’s most poignant truths is that “relationships don’t work if you don’t fight demons together.” This sentiment underscores the journeys of its characters, who must confront not only their own fears but also the fractures in their connections. The narrative reveals the dangers of hiding secrets—how they can fester and destroy if left unspoken—and how confronting them may offer a path toward healing.
Themes of envy and self-doubt also weave through the story, capturing the universal fear that others’ lives may be better than our own. Yet, the message remains hopeful: “Find the lesson and a way to move on.” The book reminds us that while “people aren’t always bad, some decisions are,” forgiveness and courage are essential to moving forward.
I think it’s like Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty meets This Is Us—an emotionally rich, layered story that masterfully balances heartbreak and hope. With its cinematic appeal, I look forward to seeing this compelling tale brought to life on screen as well. It’s a poignant reminder that love, family, and resilience can guide us through the darkest nights, helping us find light under the stars.
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC of We Are Made of Stars by Rochelle B. Weinstein.
If you are a fan of Liane Moriarty, or TV shows like White Lotus, you should read this book. I just loved it.
First off, if you're going to sell me a book about a group of varied and mysterious individuals, forced together for a week at an exclusive resort, name a price and I'll pay it. I love that kind of premise.
Every family has a story, from the mother/daughter duo that is clearly full of strife, to the two couples that vacation at this resort every year, except this year the whole thing goes sour. There is even a dark story with the couple who runs the kitchen. Somehow they all intertwine, and we see the layers of that onion slowly pulled back with each chapter.
It's well paced, well fleshed out, and a lot of fun. It has a ton of scandal, with a ton of heart as well. Great book.
I loved Rochelle Weinstein's What You Do To Me, but this one was disappointing. It was much slower to get through, too easy for me to put down, and I didn't really feel invested in any of the main characters. Renee and Jean-Paul De La Rue own the exclusive Vis Ta Vie Inn in the mountains of North Carolina. They provide luxurious accommodations and gourmet food to high profile guests, many of whom are returning customers. The De La Rues are financially struggling to hold on to the inn. This week's guests include three couples and a mother/daughter duo. Hollywood celebrities Leo and Penny are living separately but still come to the inn to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. Therapist Lucy and astronomer Henry are also going through marital troubles. Sports agent Adam and his now stay-at-home mom wife and former attorney Sienna seem to be the only happy couple, but appearances can definitely be deceiving. Fifteen year-old Rosalie and her very messed-up single mom Cassidy round out the group. Many secrets and deceptions come to light as the week moves on. I hope that Rochelle Weinstein's next book is more at the level of What You Do To Me because this one didn't even come close. Thanks to #netgalley and #lakeunionpublishing for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
*We Are Made of Stars* weaves a powerful tale of love, secrets, and second chances at a charming mountain inn, where a group of seemingly disparate characters are forced to confront their personal struggles. While the slow burn and multiple POVs may feel overwhelming at first, the emotional payoff in the latter half is well worth it, delivering a poignant story about forgiveness and healing that lingers long after the final page.
Literally everything this author pens is perfection and her newest, We Are Made of Stars, is no exception! Strangers come for a week to this Inn where secrets are revealed; relationships are destroyed and some are repaired; love is lost and found and nothing is ever the same! Renee and Jean-Paul are owners of the Inn who find out they have been scammed out of their life savings and they have to shut down their dream. Henry, Lucy, Sienna and Adam are friends since college and have been coming to the Inn for years only to have each other’s relationships implode and their friendship questioned. Penny and Leo’s world blew apart a few years ago and further blew apart by scandal so they are wondering why they are even coming for the week and then you have Cassidy and her sulking daughter, Rosalie who choose this Inn for her own secrets. These strangers will find they have threads that pull them together and by the end of the story, they won’t be strangers. Another winner!!!
My rating is a solid 5 star for We Are Made of Stars
At first I wasn't sure I was going to like this book because of the many characters and POVs, but I stuck with it and ended up loving it. This is a character-driven and the characters have their own distinctive voice, it was easy to follow the story.
My only constructive criticism is that the character names are too similar to celebrities. For example, Leo, Sienna, Henry... at one point I was expecting that a character called Taylor would show up out of the blue. However, this didn't detract from enjoying the book.
Execellent references to pop culture, too. Reminds me a bit of Plum Sykes!
my rating: 3.8/5
thanks to netgalley and the author and the publisher for giving me a chance to read and review this ARC.
opinion:
going into the book totally blind of the author's writing style and was so surprised at the beautifully-descriptive and well-written characters of the book. it is a strongly character-driven book and if that's something for you, it's definitely a book to give it a try on.
the number of point of views of each character (total of 8) was overwhelming me slightly at the start since everyone has their own characteristics and has made my brain work extra hours in remembering the details about each character in the first part of the book. once the book hits the second part (after the revelation), the plot slowly starts to kick off and it's interesting to read through what each character starts to feel and think.
overall, it's an enjoyable read for me and would love to find other books from the author again for my future reads.
wardah ꨄ
I can see why people would love this book but unfortunately it wasn’t for me. I’ve come to realize that maybe character driven books aren’t for me. I wanted more action and this was a bit too slow for my liking. Overall, an okay book just not for me.
Wish I could give this many more stars it was soooooo good! Emily is in financial difficulty. So she decides to look for a roommate on Craigs list. Pip applies and sounds so great so Emily takes a chance on her. They did an interview on Facetime and it went well. But when Pip turns up she has a twelve year old daughter with her. Very soon Emily realizes she made a mistake, but how can she get rid of them? Tenants seem to have more rights than landlords. This was such an exciting read!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book is an adventure, 8 people arrive at a lovely hotel in North Carolina for a week. Old friends reunite on this break away, and new faces fit in the group. The owners cook lovely food, arrange hikes and plan for the guests to have a relaxing week. However it becomes the longest fastest rollercoaster you could imagine.
Jean-Paul and Renee love their home/hotel and enjoy making it extra special for a small party of guests every week. Jean-Paul makes some impulsive decisions and now is trying to save their special place. Renee is dealing with JP decisions and chances they missed out on.
Cassidy and Rosalie are a mother daughter who are struggling to communicate, while Cassidy is self medicating her daughter is digging in the past.
Sienna and Adam are the ‘Barbie and Ken’ of the group and with Adam becoming a douche! The couple meet head on for a showdown.
Lucy and Henry, she is the group therapist as she never clocks off her job, watching and observing. Henry is a scientist loves the sky. The couple arrive trying to decide if and when they should make an announcement.
Penny and Leo, he is a movie star and is humble. However the life he portrays to media with PDA with wife, is over when they get home.
Ten people in Vis Ta Vie for a week, they all have different attitudes and opinions. Heartache and Lies.
I really enjoyed this book, so much it was hard to put it down and I did make notes of the ‘Easter eggs’ that are uncovered. It’s a wild ride and a high 5 Star read.

Thank you @netgalley for the ARC. What an honest and beautiful story about people, their flaws, faults and forgiveness. I loved the way all the stories intertwined at the end, and the path the characters took. As for the writing, for me, Rochelle B Weinstein’s writing is perfection. Can’t wait for her next one!
Jean-Paul and Renee are prepared to close the inn for good. They have some steady customers coming first though, and they are determined to have the best week. They didn’t expect that everyone would arrive in their own state of change, and with their own secrets brewing. 3 couples, each with their own dramas, and a mother daughter duo that may have the most drama of all. Will everyone survive the week?
I truly enjoyed every minute of this latest book from Rochelle Weinstein! I fell in love with each and every character, well, minus one IYKYK. While they all had their secrets, I just wanted them to all come out with them and be able to come back together. This one hit some hard topics, well, a lot of hard topics, but it was done in a really beautiful way. Everyone had things to work through, and I loved following along as they each did! This is a slow burn for sure, but I enjoyed it so much!
Thank you to @getredpr and @rochellebweinstein for my gifted copy of this book!
Three couples, a mother and her teenage daughter, take a vacation at a luxury Inn owned by Jean-Paul De LaRue and his wife Renee in the mountains of North Carolina.
Jean and Renee are struggling financially and are forced to face the difficult decision of closing their beautiful inn they worked so hard to build. The guests at the Inn are struggling with problems of their own and as the story unfolds, the characters’ problems and secrets come to light and their relationships with each other are tested in more ways than one. Will they find healing in the face of adversity, tragedy and dark times?
We Are Made of Stars is a story of secrets hidden from the ones we love, betrayal, lies, heartache, forgiveness, and hope. The story also deals with the consequences of choices the characters make and how it affects those around them.
I enjoyed how the author navigated the characters’ paths through life’s challenges and their connections to each other. I like the meaning of the book title and how the star theme was woven through the pages.
This is the first book I’ve read by Rochelle B. Weinstein, and I will be on the lookout for more of her stories.
