We are made of stars brings together an unlikely crew of guests at the Vis Ta Vie Inn. Turns out all of them have secrets, regrets and something to learn from their stay. Finding out what each has in common and how they help one another through the week of discoveries, heartbreak and sickness. The characters while so different blend together in a beautiful story of forgiveness, togetherness and growth. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy. Most certainly recommend this great novel.
This book has quite a bit of drama and backstory in it and it was enjoyable reading as everyone worked through their issues. Set in the North Carolina mountains at an all-inclusive inn, the owners of the inn are going through their own conflict, but little do they know that the week's guests are also going through their own issues. Returning guests and new guests are all more connected than you think. Thank you to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for a chance to read this one early in exchange for an honest review.
This is my third book by Rochelle Weinstein. I truly enjoyed her other books and this one did not disappoint. I wasn't sure about the "star" theme but there were a few times I really liked it. One quote was "The sky is unpredictable, Kind of like life". The other "sometimes the stars align and sometimes they fly off course and learn to coexist". Both of these struck a cord with me and brought the story together. This is a story of friendship, love, loss, betrayal and motherhood. The center of the story was the Vis Ta Vie Inn where a group of people come together for different reasons. I enjoyed how each character was introduced and loved getting to know each one of them. The author really has a way of bringing the characters to life. I would love to see this as a movie one day.
I would highly recommend this book to my friends and followers.
Thank you NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for this ARC.
I look forward to reading many more books by this author.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author, for an ARC of this book, in exchange for an honest review.
The premise of the book drew me in but once I started reading it, I just couldnโt get into it at all.
I wish the author, publisher and all those promoting the book much success and connections with the right readers.
A small inn attracts quite a collection of boarders. In this story, we are getting a glimpse into every personโs messy life. Told from various perspectives, I found this story was just a bit difficult to follow and didnโt really like many of the characters. However, the author pulls their stories together into a good book!
In the wonderful ๐ช๐ ๐๐ฅ๐ ๐ ๐๐๐ ๐ข๐ ๐ฆ๐ง๐๐ฅ๐ฆ, an eclectic group of people gather for a week-long vacation at a remote country inn, arriving as strangers, but leaving as family.
Rochelle B. Weinstein draws you in from page one, using multiple POVs to tell the story of the Vis Ta Vie Inn, the couple who run it and their guests. Each person is struggling in their own way and it's not long before secrets and hard truths are revealed. There's loss, envy, guilt and forgiveness with surprises I didn't expect, and I found myself comparing it to Liane Moriarty's books - both authors intertwine groups of characters in intriguing and poignant ways.
When I finished reading, I was both touched and hungry - each day starts with the the gourmet menu being served, and the descriptions of the food and cooking are mouthwatering!
Thanks to Get Red PR for the copy to review.
This is a fun book about Bed & Breakfast owners, Jean-Paul and wife Renee as they navigate a series of guests including Cassidy, "goth" daughter
Rosalie, Adam and Sienna, Henry and Lucy, and exes Leo and Penny with daughter, Lucy. Initially they all get along and love Jean-Paul's culinary skills and the hiking they can do on the beautiful grounds. But their pasts are somehow intertwined and soon secrets and lies bubble to the surface. It's tale of complicated families and the lies they tell to protect themselves and their loved ones.
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!
3.5 stars!!!! this was my first arc/netgalley read! :,)
one thing about me.... i love a good found family trope... and this checked all the boxes. i enjoyed all of the characters - but leo & penny i wasn't as interested with compared to rosalie & cassidy, for example. but that's bc i also love a complicated mother/daughter relationship (mommy issues anyone???) the character development was SO good here... i would read a book purely of cassidy & rosalie's life after this book
overall i enjoyed this book, i'm a chismosa so i love drama ๐ญ this would be a great beach read! the setting was perfect for this story, the pacing was good. i would pick up another of rachel's books for sure!
Told through multiple pov's I didn't find it difficult and usually when there are its hard to read. This was a book I loved deeply and will be in my favourites this year. Now I need to get something to eat since there was so much talk of food.
Thanks publisher and netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own and isn't influenced by anyone else
When I started We Are Made of Stars I wasn't sure how I was going to like it. The story starts with a group of people descending on a cute and picturesque inn for the week. This cast of characters are all flawed, hold secrets, and their relationships are in a state of upheaval.
This group is MESSY! We have two couples that are best friends, a celebrity couple battling demons and a public controversy, a mother daughter duo who are both in rough shape, as well as the hosts of the inn themselves. At first the fact that the author would allude to things that happened off page without divulging all of the information was irritating to me. Luckily, pieces start coming together somewhat predictably in the second half.
Despite the predictability, I enjoyed the book. I loved the exploration of the complexity of long term relationships. By the end of the book they had worked their way into my hearts and I appreciated their strength and humanity.
I would recommend this book to people who love reading character based books with flawed characters and hidden secrets.
This was a slow book about the life of a resort owner. The plot was not much more and it sadly became a bit tedious. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the chance to read this book.
This is a slow-moving story about the personal problems of the owners of a resort, along with the issues all the guests have.
I struggled to care about any of the characters and the flowery language is not my cup of tea.
It's not for me, but readers who enjoy slower character-driven stories will no doubt enjoy it more than I did.
โWe are Made of Starsโ is the newest novel by Rochelle B. Weinstein, author of great reads such as โThis is Not How it Endsโ and โโWhen We Let Go.โ
Several couples are attending a weekend retreat at a country inn located in North Carolina along with a mother and daughter. Naturally, each duo is going through its own set of struggles.
While this story is narrated in multiple points of view, I did not find it difficult to follow the different plots. I didnโt care for some of the couples as much as others and I found myself much more interested in the innโs owners, Renรฉe and Jean-Paul and the mother-daughter dynamics.
Ms. Weinstein does a fabulous job bringing memorable characters to the page and making the reader care what happens to them.
Four out of five stars.
Thank you Ms. Weinstein, Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to give this an early read.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to connect to this story as much as I had originally thought. While the premise of a picturesque mountain getaway hosting a cast of complex characters intrigued me, I struggled to connect with the characters and their respective stories. Maybe at the beginning, we were introduced to too many characters at once, and I wasn't sure who to latch onto.
The novel's themes of love, family, and second chances are undoubtedly meaningful, but I found the pacing to be slow, and it made it difficult for me to become fully invested in any particular storyline. That said, I recognize that this might be more a matter of personal taste. Rochelle B. Weinsteinโs descriptive prose beautifully captures the setting and the emotional weight of her charactersโ struggles, so I imagine readers who enjoy introspective, character-driven stories might find much to appreciate here.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book. Although it wasnโt for me, I know it will resonate with others who enjoy heartfelt, multi-perspective narratives about love and resilience.
Very good. This was the first book Iโve read from the author. I recommend people reading this when it comes out
We Are Made of Stars is a multi-POV story that follows B&B owners Renee and Jean-Paul, mother and daughter duo Cassidy and Rosalie, and three married couples (Penny and Leo, Adam and Sienna, and Lucy and Henry) during a weeklong stay and Renee and Jean-Paul's property, Vis Ta Vie. Each family has their own secrets/hardships they're working through. As the week progresses, and more details of each of their lives start to surface, the interconnectedness of the characters comes to light.
My favorite of these is Rosalie's story, which is the focus for the last 15 - 20% of the book. These final chapters are beautifully told and are the best part of the book. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the majority of the book was not as wonderful of a journey for me. There are three married couples who are all having problems in their respective marriages, and I found this to be dull/repetitive at times. Of the three couples, I resonated the most with Penny and Leo. I was satisfied with their ending, whereas I didn't find myself caring as much about Lucy/Henry and Adam/Sienna.
I did enjoy the multiple POV narration. I think it was a smart move to not use each character as a narrator (Renee, Lucy, Adam, and Leo do not narrate). The author is a good story teller (this is the first book of hers I have read) and I generally felt engaged through out the book. This was a hard review to write because I enjoyed the book, I just didn't love it.
It is not only the guests, but also the owners of the Vis Ta Vie inn, who find themselves at a cross roads in their lives over the brief period of time covered in this novel.
From the Hollywood golden couple on the verge of a divorce, to the single mother and her teenage daughter who lack emotional stability in their lives, and others present at the inn, the writer takes a good look at the emotional makeup of what makes us human.
This is a warm and heartfelt story that will resonate with many readers. Worth checking out, it gets 3.5 stars.
We Are Made of Stars is magical and satisfying. Good things happen to good people even after bad things happen to them too. Rochelle B. Weinstein has crafted a sweet, coming of age (even though some of the characters are adults) story that will make readers laugh, cry, and most of all, relate to those things that we hold onto despite needing to let them go.
Thanks to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for the opportunity to read this ARC.
Rochelle B. Weinstein is a go-to author. She never disappoints. I get lost in her stories; her characters are people you feel drawn to, who tug at your heart, and who you wonโt soon forget.
In ๐๐ ๐๐ซ๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐จ๐ ๐๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ฌ eight peopleโs lives collide at the beautiful and cozy farmhouse inn named ๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐, run and owned by Jean-Paul and Renรฉe.
Over a week of gourmet dinners, generously poured fine wine, and hikes to picturesque waterfalls - layers of betrayals, heartbreaks, secrets, and disclosures will rock these guests and their hosts.
Told through multiple characters' perspectives, I couldnโt stop reading; I was invested in their grief, pain, and love. Rochelle is a master of highlighting the intricacies of human emotions. These pages encompass many different types of relationships, grief, heartache, and healing, yet they are all woven together magnificently.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the Vis Ta Vie Inn in the North Carolina mountains, this compelling story follows couples as they escape their everyday lives for a transformative week. Among them is a mother and daughter, each grappling with their own set of challenges.
The layers of drama, hidden secrets, heart-wrenching loss, deep love, and second chances weave a captivating narrative that pulls you in from the start. The author excels at bringing each character to life, creating memorable scenesโespecially those poignant moments when buried pain and secrets come to the surface. The writing is refreshingly clear and straightforward, making it highly enjoyable to read.
The distinct multiple POVs are expertly crafted and enhance character development beautifully. The pacing is just right, with each perspective switch deepening your connection to the unfolding story.
