Doesn’t that beautiful cover shot of Skye draw you in! Even though this was Book Four in a series of police procedurals I think it read okay as a standalone. The action, characterizations, and scenery all made for a solid mystery. In spite of twists and turns, for me Murder on Skye was an average whodunit.
Gripping, Edgy..
The fourth outing in the Detective Lola Harris series and a high profile case turns ever more shocking when a body is discovered. The detective and her team have their work cut out as the case progresses. A pacy and compelling read with a cast of credible and well drawn characters populating a plot littered with twists and turns. Gripping and edgy.
What a great read! It kept me guessing right until the end, even when I thought I knew who was responsible it constantly shifted. Moving some of the action to a remote isle made it even more suspenseful.
I look forward to following other cases with these team.
Certainly not a bad police procedural and I have read another in this series and enjoyed it. This book is set in Glasgow and as the title suggests, in Skye. Lola is a detective, now looking into the deathg of a juror n a murder trial. A media celebrity is now free after the evidence was contested. Later a witness is also found murdered. During the investigation, Lola is approached about the possibility of evidence which could still convict him. Lola and her team are looking into the murder of the witness(es) and her colleagues, Graeme and Adrian are still looking at the original investigation. The team of men are convinced that Lola and her team are trying to block their investigation, instead of protecting a vunerable family.
On the whole a good read, a decent plot and characters are well portrayed. I personally found the ending too rushed and would have preferred more explanation about Lola's personal issues.
Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC
Book four in the series but a first for me, Lola is a no nonsense determined character who is driven by her need to seek justice.
There was a mix bag of characters which added to the depth and intensity of the story.
The story was fast paced and engaging with the tension building as you turned the pages.
The atmospheric writing in the setting added to the mystery and intrigue in the story
Well deserving of five stars.
When detective Lola Harris is called to the spot where a body has been found she knows at once that the victim is someone everyone has been looking for. She is the juror that caused a mistrial for Carter Craig . She was exposed as one of a group of jurors in the trial who colluded together & enabled Carter to be released. Lola discovers that there is someone who can still put Carter behind bars, however she is in hiding on Skye. There is also a conflict with another detective that doesn't work well with others!
This was a fast paced police procedural. I like Lola & her team & any book set in Scotland gets a thumbs up from me. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.
Set in Glasgow, playboy entrepreneur Carter Craig was convicted of the murders of gangster Alex Sanderson and his girlfriend Xena but not long after he was found guilty, the verdict was overturned due to jury misconduct. Three members were arrested and the fourth, Kathryn Main, said to be the ringleader, disappeared. Friends and family say it was really out of character so was she doing it for someone else, and if so, who? It transpires she was terrified of Craig and was hiding out in a friend’s flat. That is, until she is pulled dead from the river at Kelvingrove Park, garrotted by a wire. There are links to Alex’s murder. DCI Lola Harris, together with temporary DI Anna Vaughan, DS Aidan Pierce and DC Kirstie Campbell are on the case. The original murder, investigated by Lola’s old adversary DCI Graeme Izatt will need to be reopened, and Lola is more than happy to loan him Pierce to help and then someone comes forward with new evidence. Someone with first-hand experience of Craig’s brutal misogyny and proof that shatters his alibi. Could this be what Lola needs to finally prove Craig’s guilt? Did he kill Kathryn or is there another hand at work here? And who has just murdered a prosecution witness? The trail leads her to the Isle of Skye to track down a new witness before anyone else dies.
I really like Lola. She is compassionate and empathetic, incitive, a sharp detective and has a great way with witnesses and staff alike and I’m so glad she has finally got with new partner Sandy and from under the spell of Joe, the married man she has wasted so many years of her life on. Lola is clearly brave and driven and doesn’t stand for any nonsense, for example in her dealings with the odious DS Pierce and DCI Izatt, as she battles with an exciting case full of action and intrigue. A real page-turner and a great addition to a very good series indeed.

Review for 'Murder On Skye' by Daniel Sellers
Wow!!!! Just flipping wow!!!! What an absolutely epic page turner!!! Well done Daniel!!! How on Earth have I never read any of your books before? Absolutely smashed it!!!!!!! This may be the first book I have read by this author but it most definitely will not be my last!! It is also the fourth book in Daniel's 'Detective Lola Harris Mysteries' but can be read as a standalone.
This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions creating the perfect atmosphere for the storyline. The book cover and synopsis works perfectly with the book plot and I am most definitely looking forward to reading the next book, and the previous one in this series.
I have absolutely no idea how this is the first time I have read one of this incredible author's books but I am so glad I have rectified that problem and I cannot wait to get hooked into more books by Daniel. I don't normally like reading books out of order but the one good thing about doing so is that I can now go back and read the previous three books in this series by this fantastic author while waiting for her next book to come out in this series!!! In this absolutely gripping book we are transported to Glasgow where we meet Detective Lola Harris. Lola is called out to a park where a body has been pulled out of the wrist. The body is identified as Kathryn Main who is a juror who was on the case of convicted reality TV star Carter Craig who had been sentenced for a double murder. The verdict was overturned weeks later and Carter was set free. Carter had not even been in prison for a week when it is discovered that the the jurors had been conspiring. Three of the jurors on the case were arrested for misconduct but Kathryn went missing. While this is going on Lola is also fighting with her own battles and a young Mum and child are at high risk and in need of protection. Lola has to team up with DS Anna Vaughan, DS Aiden Pierce and DCI Graeme Izatt to find the killer. Can they get to the killer before it is too late? Grab your copy of this gripping page turner to find out for yourselves and I can guarantee that you will not regret it. With a storyline ram packed with crime, drama, intrigue, tension, murder, suspense, police procedural, mystery and everything that you can ask for and more in a crime thriller what are you waiting for? Daniel does an incredible job of weaving multiple cases and activities together to create this incredible storyline. He ensures the reader gets the bigger picture of what is happening without causing any confusion. An absolutely addictive, nail biting, page turning, heart racing and compelling storyline in what promises to be an absolutely amazing series!! It has so many layers of mysteries and crimes for the reader to be kept guessing throughout. This fantastic thriller is absolutely packed with twists, turns, shocks, crime and red herrings throughout I had no idea who did what until the end. This is an achievement in itself as it is definitely getting harder to surprise me with the amount of crime novels I've read. There was so many explosive twists in this book that I actually lost count on how many times I was shocked which I didn't think would be possible!!! The plot was unique and realistic and Daniel's brilliant descriptions brings absolutely everything to life in front of your eyes. It started straight in the action and kept you going on a roller-coaster ride of suspension throughout. There were several occasions when my heart was in my throat and I the hair was raising on my arms but I won't mention those as not to spoil it for future readers. It is so hard to not say too much without giving anything away to future readers but I'm sure once people have read it they will know exactly what I mean. Well done Daniel you did absolutely amazing and everything was tied up perfectly. The twists and turns in this book left me going from one chapter to another!!! I completely devoured it in one sitting as I just could not put it down. Prepare yourself for a rollercoaster ride!!! I just could not put this book down and I cannot wait to read more books in this series!!!
Before you start this make sure you clear your schedule because once you pick it up you are not going to want to put it down!!!!
Although this is the fourth book in the series I had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.
The characters were very realistic, multi layered and well rounded and again their personalities reflected the storyline and how they would act, etc perfectly. The descriptions gave a really good in depth view of how the characters were feeling and what they were thinking. The characters were complex and each seemed to be hiding their own secrets which leaves you questioning who is telling the truth and who can be trusted. they had their own unique personalities with individual flaws, quirks, secrets, strengths and weaknesses!! I loved getting to know Lola and really cannot wait to see how she has developed from the first book in this series which is called 'Murder In The Gallowgate'. ! I don't want to say too much about the characters though and I will leave you to read this amazing book and work it out yourself. Each of the characters were well developed, unique and thanks to Daniel's fantastic evocative writing skills they all came to life before my eyes. That is all I will say as I don't want to run the risk of dropping any hints or spoilers. However, whether you love or hate these characters, they all have their own strong unique personalities and they all bring the story to life playing their roles perfectly.
Congratulations Daniel on a fantastic and gripping success and here's to the next explosive book in this absolutely epic series!!! This is exactly why I would like to welcome you to my favourite authors club!!!
Overall an absolute must read, pulse racing, addictive page turning crime thriller that will keep you on edge and addicted.

This is the fourth book in the series but which I didn't realise and I haven't read any of the previous books but I didn't feel I was missing anything so can be read as a stand alone. It has a great action packed plot with twists and turns to keep the pace moving and the reader interested. A Very enjoyable read. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Book 4 in the Detective Lola Harris series.
This is the fourth book in the series but it works perfectly fine as a stand alone thriller. I haven't read any of the previous books but I didn't feel I was missing any major details. I do however want to read them as I thoroughly enjoyed this. It has a great action packed plot with some twists to keep you guessing. Really enjoyable book and I look forward to reading more about Lola and the team.
A high-profile case. A murdered juror. A determined detective . . .
Detective Lola Harris is called to a local park where the body of a woman has been pulled out of the river. The victim has a tattoo on her wrist—a dolphin and a heart. Lola knows who she is instantly. She’s the woman half the Glasgow force have been searching for: missing juror, Kathryn Main.
Kathryn was on the jury that convicted celebrity entrepreneur and reality TV star, Carter Craig of a double murder. Just weeks later, the verdict was overturned. Carter Craig walked free.
Three jurors were arrested for misconduct. A fourth, Kathryn Main, disappeared.
Then, a witness comes forward, claiming to have new evidence in the original trial. Lola’s only hope of uncovering the truth lies hundreds of miles north on the Isle of Skye.
But Carter’s alibi for Kathryn’s murder is solid. He isn’t the only killer Lola is hunting.
With one juror already dead, Lola must prove Carter’s guilt and find Kathryn’s killer before they strike again . . .
Another cracking read from Daniel Sellers!
When Lola Harris is called out to another case, she immediately knows who the victim is. Following a recent court case where a reality tv star was jailed - then the verdict overturned - three of the jurors were arrested for misconduct, and a fourth one has been missing. Not any longer. When a witness comes forward with some new information, things take a turn and the focus turns to the Isle of Skye.
I like Lola Harris. She's smart, she's clever and she is definitely nobody's fool. She can think on her feet and make snap decisions all of which make this a fast paced and very exciting read which I just couldn't put down. A fabulous fourth book in a series I definitely recommend. 5*.
My thanks to the publisher for my copy via NetGalley; this is - as always - my honest, original and unbiased review.
Thanks to Daniel and NetGalley for allowing me to read Murder on Skye prior to the publication date.
Although this is the fourth book in the series, it can be read as a standalone book and it is a definite page turner.
The characters are now well developed, some you love, some you hate.
With this book, Daniel has definitely joined the ranks of Tartan Noir authors who I follow.
There are a lot of people to keep track of in this book but I do not agree that reading the earlier novels in the series is essential to get the most out of this book. It can be read as a stand-alone and is a really strong story in and of itself. The setting helps as it is so appealing, especially to those who love books set in Scotland, which has become a genre of its own. The protagonist is fantastic and her reactions are so credible, especially when she first identifies the victim. It’s a great plot and I really enjoyed the author’s writing style.
Another winner in the Lola Harris series by @danielsellersauthor! I've been fortunate to score advanced reader copies from @joffebooks so I've read them all. I love Lola as a character; she's flawed but determined; compassionate but not a pushover. I appreciate the tensions she faces within her department, with her peers and her superiors, always walking that fine line and taking chances (that sometimes pay off and sometimes don't). Sellers is great at creating some true red herrings and chilling moments (and terrific villains). I look forward to the #5.
P.S. Thanks to @joffebooks and @netgalley for the ARC.
I do love a good murder mystery and this book kept me interested and kept me reading with all its mystery and twists. I enjoyed Detective Lola Harris and I do love the Scottish setting and the intenseness of this book. It reads well and kept me interested and wanting to know more throughout.
This is a gripping and thrilling read, it has everything you want from a good murder mystery. It is not predictable and you never know the outcome until the very end. My only complaint is that I didn't know it was a part of a series and there were people and information that I didn't know but would have if I had read the other books in this series. Might have to go back and find the other books in the series and then come back and read this one again!
Thank you NetGalley and Joffe Books for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

Jury misconduct in the controversial trial of celebrity and TV star Carter Craig who was convicted of a double murder should not receive a death sentence for one of those jurors. But she went missing and later her body was found in the water, garroted just days after a mistrial was declared and Carter Craig set free. But Craig has as witnessed alibi. It's up to DI Lola Harris along with DS Anna Vaughan, DCI Graeme Izatt and DS Aiden Pierce to follow every lead and fingertip search wherever necessary until the surprise (to me) ending.
I requested and received a temporary uncorrected proof copy from Joffe Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

Part of a series, best read in order to get a proper sense of the characters.A tricky case for Lola and her team,a good read.
This was a strong suspenseful atmosphere in this wonderfully done novel. I was invested in what was going on and enjoyed the concept of what was happening in this crime thriller. The characters worked perfectly with what I was hoping for and enjoyed the concept. Daniel Sellers has a great writing style and can’t wait for more.
3.5 Stars, rounded up
Detective Lola Harris is called to a local park where the body of a woman has been pulled out of the river. Lola knows who she is instantly. With one juror already dead, Lola must again prove Carter's guilt and find Kathryn's killer before they strike again . . .
Don't do what I did. Murder on Skye doesn't work as a stand-alone. I felt lost as I read the first portion of the book. There were so many names, and so many times back history was referred to without actually explaining any part of it. However, the more I read, the book became easier to figure out. That doesn't mean I was able to figure out who the killer was, however. That was a mystery until the end. Lola was a fabulous character and I have every intention of reading the next book!
Many thanks to both #JoffeBooks and #NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of Running Cold. This book is #4 in the Detective Lola Harris Mysteries series, and it has an expected publication date of October 29, 2024.
I always love to read books set in Scotland, for some reason. This was an entertaining and fairly short read about a court case, judges, a man and her child, as well as a bad man. Easy to read and nicely paced, although felt a bit repetitive at times, but otherwise a good read.
