I found this to be a very enjoyable read. It keeps you interested from start to finish. It is a fictional story set against the eruption of Mount Pelee in Saint Pierre Martinique in 1902. Some of the real life survivors are interwoven in the story. Highly recommend.
Thanks NetGalley for an interesting read. Ethan goes to New York from his little town thinking he will make it big as a newspaper man. Things are not working out as he thought so he sails on a ship with a friend he made to Martinique. He is not sure what to do next but he meets Alice on board and is invited to go with her to her stay with her fiancé. The mountain there is becoming active. The young man isn't what she thought he was. Ethan and Alice find adventure together and he saves her more than once on their travels.
This book was great! The story transported me to that time and it was very heartfelt and deep. I would recommend!
It was a well written story of tragedy and luck. It had so much action, drama, a natural disaster, death, and so many more emotional and intense incidents and twists that kept me engaged. I was happy with the two main characters who had been brought together found love.
This book was okay, while the storyline is unique, the writing style did not resonate either me. It was a bit choppy and stilted. The setting was pretty cool, island paradise.

“Luck and Love in 1902” is a historical romance novella that transports readers to the lush tropical setting of Saint-Pierre, Martinique, during the early 20th century. The story revolves around Ethan Woodward, who finds himself at a crossroads after being romantically rejected. Seeking new opportunities, he aspires to work as a newspaper reporter for The World, one of America’s most-read newspapers. However, his initial attempts are met with failure, leaving him feeling lost and contemplating drastic measures.
Ethan’s life takes a dramatic turn when a sailor saves him from despair and invites him to join his crew bound for Saint-Pierre. Upon arrival, he encounters Alice, an heiress with whom he shares an immediate connection. Despite their chemistry, Alice is engaged to Jean-Paul Moreau and wishes to remain loyal to her fiancé. As Ethan acclimates to the local political landscape and forms relationships with the island’s residents, he stumbles upon a sinister plot that threatens Alice’s safety.
As tensions rise with the looming threat of a volcanic eruption on the island, Ethan must act quickly to protect those he has come to care for. The narrative weaves together themes of adventure, romance, self-discovery, resilience, and hope as Ethan navigates through challenges that test both his character and his burgeoning relationship with Alice.
