Break My Fall by Lynn H. Blackburn continues the author’s “Gossamer Falls” series, thrusting readers into a small community that is once again fraught with danger. Grayson Ward has closed off his heart to a romantic relationship. Meanwhile, Dr. Meredith Quinn has had her eye on him for what feels like forever. When her mobile dentistry practice puts Meredith at the wrong place at the wrong time, the two main characters must face their tumultuous attraction to one another. All while attempting to solve crimes and keep Meredith alive. Break My Fall, however, didn’t excite me as much as I’d hoped it would. I swallowed the novel quickly. Not because the tension had me in knots but rather because I was on a plane, and it was the perfect length for the journey. I started the novel in the airport and finished it when the flight landed at my destination.
The tight, familial ties between the Quinn family warmed my heart. I witnessing them supporting one another through every trial. Break My Fall features real issues that we often must face in today’s world including drugs and violence; Blackburn, however, softens them somewhat for the novel. She delivers a book with a thought-out, well-written plot with a clear beginning and conclusion for the main characters, and she incorporates Christ-centered messages throughout. I saved a few quotes that poked at my heart, drilling into maybe some walls like Grayson’s that I didn’t know I had. It will never cease to amaze me how a novel can open my eyes to so much.
My issue is I never felt the connection between Grayson and Meredith. I understand love is a decision, not an emotion. I understand Grayson considering God having other plans for his life. But…something about Break My Fall felt off. Flat. The characters were characters for me, not actual people. You can tell a woman wrote the book from Grayson’s words and actions, some of which I found very hard to believe. Blackburn occasionally became too caught up in the romance, as it took priority over the “suspense” aspect of Break My Fall. The most excitement in the book is near the end, and only then did I gnaw on my fingernails. Don’t get me wrong, I did not dislike Break My Fall by Lynn H. Blackburn. But instead of the roaring bonfire I expect from a romantic suspense novel, I got a candle.

Synopsis:
Dr. Meredith Quinn always planned to return to Gossamer Falls to practice dentistry. Now that she's back home, she's made it a point to offer clinics to children and adults in nearby underserved areas. Unfortunately, those same areas are known to harbor drug traffickers, and Police Chief Grayson Ward suspects that local law enforcement is looking the other way.
After too many losses, Grayson has closed off his heart. But when Meredith enters his life, his walls crumble, and he's left exposed and vulnerable. To keep her alive, he must keep her close, but that makes it impossible for him to retreat and rebuild. Will she be the one who finally helps him emerge from isolation? Or will this force of nature leave him shattered?
Thoughts:
The story itself is interesting, and I really enjoyed it other than the talk of the women and girls being... Used...
But I really did like it. It took a bit of time to get through, but it gets better a bit before the half way mark. I liked the romance between the two main characters, how it evolved. But... All the characters annoyed me like crazy.
The reason Gray had for not wanting to fall in love, admittedly, was not correct. But. He obviously thought it was true, and it was something he struggled with. And then Meredith goes and insults him and spends weeks crying and weeping. She could have been slightly more understanding, talking to him and helping him understand better. And everyone else was angry with Gray because he made her cry?! She did it to herself. She walked away, not Gray.
But. It was interesting, with a net of intrigue over the whole story.
Not for you ger readers though.

This is book two in the Gossamer Falls series, You can read this and enjoy a great book, however you will be missing another great book and some history of the characters. I loved so many of the characters and can not wait to learn more about them. I love when authors keep lots of characters in their novels and lets us continue to connect with them all still while following an amazing storyline. We met Dr. Meredith Quinn and Police Chief Grayson Ward in book one. There is a lot going on in this book, I can not wait to read more from this series. I love the town of Gossamer Falls. The Quinn and Shaw families. I was given a copy of this book for my honest opinion.

Enjoyed the return to Gossamer Falls and spending more time with characters I'd gotten to know in book one. It had a strong opening that hooked me immediately. However as it progressed I felt a bit lost at times on what the bad guys were up to and what the threat really was. There were times that I really liked the main couple, but at other times I felt like one or both overreacted to things that happened between them personally. The Quinn family is very protective and supportive of one another and this really came out at times. The action picked up near the end and had me concerned at times. Some of my favourite parts were the siblings/cousins recounting memories of some of the things they did as kids, they were hilarious. There are two other characters that things are hinted at about that I am very interested in know what the story is there. I am really hoping the next book features them and I get some answers, but I know I have to wait a while for it to be released.

Love and forgiveness are the important things to have in life as Meredith and Grayson soon discover.
I loved every minute of this story. I couldn't put it down it was interesting!
I learned a few things along the way.
It was nice to return to Gossamer Falls. To me, it's like home.
The Quinn family feels like my own.
I didn't want this story to end.
5 stars for keeping me engaged the whole time. I highly recommend!
My thanks for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine

While this book started out pretty strong, I never felt connected to any of the characters. I was really hoping for some heart-pounding suspense, but it felt more like a romance novel than anything. I found the characters to be immature, though I loved the family bonds.

Book Review: Break My Fall by Lynn H. Blackburn
by Donna F
Break My Fall marks a compelling return to Gossamer Falls and the beloved Quinn family. This time, the spotlight is on Dr. Meredith Quinn, whose mobile dental clinic takes her into the troubled community of neighboring Neeson. What starts as routine care turns dangerous as her patients begin sharing secrets—stories of abuse, trafficking, and corruption involving local law enforcement. The realism of these revelations is both gripping and heartbreaking.
Enter Chief Grayson Ward, a man with his own emotional walls and a fierce dedication to justice. Grayson is determined to stop the crime spreading into his county—even more so when Meredith becomes a target. His struggle between keeping Meredith safe and keeping his heart protected makes for a deeply satisfying, slow-burning romance.
Blackburn’s gift for creating vibrant, layered characters shines here. Whether it's Meredith’s strength and compassion, Grayson's inner conflict, or the supportive circle of friends and family—like Mo, Cal, Cassie, and Donovan—these relationships add warmth and emotional depth. The dynamic between Meredith and Grayson is both tender and full of tension, making their story impossible to put down.
The romance is sweet and the suspense is edge of your seat; thankfully, Mo provides the perfect dose of humor and levity to balance the intensity. And speaking of Mo… I am officially invested in what’s brewing between him and Bronwyn. Blackburn cleverly teases just enough to leave readers eagerly awaiting their turn in the spotlight. Personally, I have been waiting for Mo’s story since book one!
Fans of interconnected stories will also appreciate the cameos from other Blackburn novels, adding layers for longtime readers. Break My Fall is both thrilling and heartwarming, an excellent addition to the series—and one of the most satisfying romantic suspense reads I’ve had in ages.

It's only not 5 stars because there were some parts that felt filler-ish and dragged the story just a enough that I can't say this is a favourite and 5 stars. BUT I LOVED READING IT AND STILL RECOMMEND THIS SERIES OK.
Meredith and Gray were so interesting! They had a rocky start and I actually loved reading that. Gray made mistakes. Meredith said hurtful things. Forgiveness and love are stronger than that.
The mystery was a bigger focus and that lost be just a bit. It was certainly high stakes but I just wasn't that interested in it. I wanted more cute Gray and Meredith dates. Gray with those romantic gestures? Yes Please.

Break My Fall by Lynn H. Blackburn takes readers back to Gossamer Falls. If you love small town romances with a bit of suspense, this is your book. Meredith Quinn moves back home and brings the trouble with her. She's got the support of her family and the police chief Grayson Ward and needs their help to stay safe. Seems that Meredith discovered information about a drug operation in a near-by county and has become a target.
I love Meredith. She's spunky, head strong and loves her family and community. She's got the support of her cousin Cal (from Never Fall Again), and her brother Mo, who's story I hope is coming up. But the author really hits home with the theme of family in a tight-knit community. Gray is a bit of an outsider, and has to win over the Quinn family in his pursuit of Meredith's heart all while trying to keep her safe. I love the character development as the series continues.
I highly recommend the entire Gossamer Falls series. The characters will feel like your best friends but there is plenty of mystery and suspense to keep you staying up way to late at night reading.
I received an ebook review copy of this book through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Oh. My. Word.
I loved this book. And I say that a lot about Blackburn's books, but this one was sooooo good. I was delighted to be back in Gossamer Falls and liked seeing cameos from characters from book one. BUT Meredith and Grayson. Um....yeah they are a fantastic couple. Chemistry is perfect. Grayson is so swoony - he could be the police chief in my fiction story lol. My goodness he was such a great hero. And while I could go on and on, there's so much more to the story.
The overall suspense part of the story was great. At first I thought Meredith was kind of oblivious to what was happening around her pop-up dentist chair, but as the story went on, I could see I was in the wrong about that. Her heart for others spoke to my own heart honestly. And the last like 10% of the book! Obviously I can't spoil anything but WOW - you definitely won't want to put it down.
Gossamer Falls has a special place in my heart and now even more so with Grayson and Meredith. Break My Fall has a great faith thread, lots of nail biting moments, and the sweetest/swooniest romance. Highly recommend!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

4.5 stars rounded up. SO GOOD! I loved the first book in this series but Blackburn keeps getting better. Fantastic romantic suspense!

It was so good to be back in Gossamer Falls! ‘Break My Fall’ focuses on Meredith Quinn, but we get to see some of our favorites from previous books/novelas. I really love the Quinn family (even though I think how close they are is a bit over the top sometimes…it’s almost unbelievable). One thing I do love is that they’re always there for each other.
I really enjoyed the plot of this one. Meredith was determined to help the people of Neeson, even though she knew she was putting her own life at risk. Grayson was determined to keep her safe and get to the bottom of the issues in Neeson.
Their relationship annoyed me at times. More so Grayson than Meredith. They eventually worked it out and when they actually started communicating, I was rooting for them.
I wish the suspense had been a bit more drawn out and not so quick at the end, but overall I really enjoyed this story. I am definitely looking forward to the next book.

I love this series and this book. It's very memorable. It's set in a mountain area and has two key families that have been feuding for years although there are some who have managed to bridge the gap and have relations with those in the opposite family. The Quinn family is "exuberantly loving, wildly protective, and fiercely loyal" (location 3029) so when Meredith finds herself in trouble, they encircle her to the point she feels suffocated. But it's all done in love. There's a lot of wisdom shared between the family too. Cal tells his best friend, Gray, "The main thing is not to expect God to go along with your plans. He has his own plans. And they're better" (location 1619). Very wise words that we need to hear now and again.
There are a lot of mysterious things going on up in Neason. While it's not Gray's jurisdiction, it's a concern, especially since Meredith starting holding dental clinics there. I loved how the deputies made use of Brick's grandmother and how they and "the family" work together. It's wonderful. I can't wait to finally get to the bottom of Mo and Bronwyn's issues in the next book.
I'd highly recommend this book and series. Thank you to Revell for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

If you look at any of my reviews for Lynn's books, you'll know I'm a huge fan. It continues with book two in this series, Break My Fall!
Meredith is a dentist who wears her heart on her sleeve for those in need. Occasionally, she crosses over to a town that's dangerous to help underserved families. The problem is, kids talk. Meredith hears things... and the bad guys know it!
Meanwhile, her family of Quinns (and Shaw) rally the troops and try to keep her safe. Read this story and tell me you wouldn't want to be part of their family! They try to keep her as close as possible, but that doesn't always keep her safe.
Well, Police Chief Gray is also on the job of protecting Meredith, as well as his heart. He's lost too much in his life, and he's not going to add her to the list. Keeping her alive and at a distance are his goals. His heart apparently didn't get the memo! His history leads to him resolving to never get involved with a woman, but Meredith is a force to be reckoned with!
Whew, this story kept me up late! I didn't get to sleep before midnight a couple of times. Guess I should've started reading earlier in the evening! Lynn's stories always have me on the edge of my seat and biting my nails!
There wasn't as much faith in this story as the previous ones. Not that I'm saying there has to be a certain amount. Just not quite like the first book. Totally fine, just an observation. The ending went a bit quicker than I expected. I don't know why, but in suspense novels like this, I love a good confrontation. That's personal preference, of course. While I didn't get a confrontation, there's an explanation, which I always appreciate!
Now I wait incredibly impatiently for Mo and Bronwyn's story! I'm sure it's going to be a doozy!
Thanks to the publisher for my review copy!

Break My Fall by Lynn H. Blackburn is a return to Gossamer Falls and our friends, the Quinn family. This time, Dr. Meredith Quinn has seen and heard too much during her trips to neighboring Neeson in her mobile dentistry van, a fact that becomes painfully obvious when she finds herself stranded on the side of the road with an empty gas tank that should have still been full. It is a good thing Chief Grayson Ward is nearby to save the day. But why is he sticking so close to Meredith, especially when he keeps pushing her away? Drugs and trafficking run rampant in the county next door, but Gray has a problem with letting crime run amok on his doorstep. Fortunately, he has allies in his fight. Unfortunately, the woman he cannot let himself love is in the crosshairs of the worst of the perpetrators. And we all know what happens to those carefully constructed walls when the people who construct them find themselves in the line of fire.
If you read Never Fall Again, you are already a member of the Gossamer Falls community and are practically a Quinn, as well. Meredith and Mo, Cal and Cassie, Donovan and Gray are our people and we know them. Of course, we also know something has got to give between Meredith and Gray. And happy dance of happy dances, we get just that in Break My Fall. Blackburn’s characters stick with you; they are vibrant and relatable, and it is easy to want good things for them. The tension is very real, both in the romance and in the action of trying to keep headstrong Meredith safe when her primary concern is taking care of others. And the romance is so sweet. Maybe I am just a sucker right now, but I think it is more likely that this book is just one of the most downright delicious romances I have read in I don’t know how long. No need to worry, though… Mo keeps it from getting too sappy. Because that is just gross. (By the way, now that my hopes for Meredith and Gray are fulfilled, i have turned my sights on Mo and Bronwyn. Someone has some explaining to do there!) I like when characters from parallel storylines converge, and I have a great appreciation for the way Blackburn weaves in some beloved characters from her other novels to give this one some extra depth. Break My Fall absolutely earns 5 stars, and also a little heart in the margin of my book tracking spreadsheet!
Thank you to the author and publisher for allowing me a copy to read and review. All opinions expressed here are my own and are completely genuine.

Dr. Meredith Quinn is a dentist with a passion for helping the underserved, but those same areas are also known for drug trafficking and Police Chief Grayson Ward suspects that there is more going on than meets the eye. Meredith quickly finds herself in the crosshairs of a dangerous web of drug dealers, she and Grayson must navigate their growing affection while staying out of the those who don't want the law poking around.
A well-done romantic suspense, with a full cast of characters. I like that they are both Christians and their faith impacts how they live their lives, even though they have their struggles. I liked how Grayson is protective of Meredith, and how she helps him work through his fears. Meredith has a big, wonderful family, and they care a lot about her. I admired her big heart for others, and her understanding of the importance of dental care.
Overall, a well-done suspense, with great characters, and good relationship building and growth in faith. I liked that Meredith has a passion to help people. A well-paced plot, with great tension, romance, and faith.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I really enjoy these Gossamer Falls novels! Meredith is back and it feels like home. Using her dentistry skills she does what she can to help underserved areas and one of the big ones, is the county next door. However it seems that those higher up are not happy she is there and often make it difficult for her to set up her traveling clinic. But when some of those patients make comments about the community and she sees bruises but gets excuses for what caused them, she knows she needs to help these people in more than just treating their teeth. She helped one get out, maybe she can help others? Police Chief Grayson Ward has had his suspicions about what goes on in the next community over but it’s not his jurisdiction and he doesn’t have solid proof of things. When Meredith spills what she has heard and seen, he knows she has put herself in danger but this is also what he needed to know. Gray reaches out to a contact and they come up with a plan which will possibly put Meredith in more danger but it’s worth the risk to save others. But can the two of them pull this off and remain safe or will this dance of feelings between them compromise the mission? Another great action filled read! Thank you to Revell Publishing and the author for the complimentary novel and allowing me to be a part of the launch team. This review is of my own opinion and accord.

Thrilling suspense, mutual pining romance, touching faith, & heartwarming family drama make Break My Fall a must read! I loved the first book & novella in the Gossamer Falls series & couldn’t wait for this second book. Lynn H. Blackburn delivers a sweet romance with Meredith & Gray who are instantly attracted to each other but hesitant to fall in love. Against this backdrop is a dangerous human/drug trafficking ring with Meredith in the crosshairs as she tries to help a local underserved community with dental care. It’s an action packed thrill ride that kept me quickly turning the pages.
Dr. Meredith Quinn returned to Gossamer Falls to give back to the community through her dental care services. Unfortunately, her patients tend to share too much & Meredith finds herself a target as she hears things she isn’t supposed to about a trafficking ring & police on the take.
Police Chief Grayson Ward is definitely attracted to Meredith but has experienced too many losses in his life & believes he might be doomed to be alone. But, when Meredith becomes a target, he’s there to protect her & soon his feelings for the beautiful dentist prove too hard to resist. Can he keep her safe while trying to root out the criminals & corrupt police?
I loved Meredith & Gray! Meredith’s such a strong character who can be sweet & vulnerable, but stubborn too. She’s definitely fallen for Gray but has to protect her heart because he has some strong walls to break down. I loved the sizzling chemistry while they’re forced into each other’s orbit.
Meredith’s close-knit family provided plenty of comic relief as everyone has a story or opinion to share. I loved her older brother Mo & can’t wait for his story. I enjoyed Granny’s wisdom & the small town, close-knit community of Gossamer Falls. I also appreciated the gentle faith thread woven throughout with messages of hope & trust.
The suspense definitely kept me on edge! There’re plenty of close calls as Gray tries to find who’s out to get Meredith. The ending had me on pins & needles as it all comes down to an exciting conclusion.
Highly recommend! Can’t wait for the next book! I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own & voluntarily provided.

This inspirational romantic suspense has an emphasis on the rocky road to romance. Both Meredith and Gray have put up walls to potential romantic relationships and the results are some hurts that seem almost too difficult to overcome. Meredith is part of a tight knit family, very loyal to each other. Family dynamics and Meredith's relationships to her siblings are a large part of the plot, as is the troubled potential romance. Characters are well developed, including her siblings.
There is the threat of harm from the next county over but that, as well as the mystery involved, take a back seat in the plot to relationship issues. There is some quick and intense suspense near the end of the novel, however. There is a good contrast between Meredith's desire to give to the community as opposed to the evil happening in the next county. There is also a good faith message included.
This is a novel for readers who like an emphasis on family relationships and romance over consistent investigative procedure or suspense. Blackburn's writing style is easy to read, making this novel a rewarding one.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book through Partners in Crime Book Tours. My comments are an independent and honest review.

Break My Fall by Lynn Blackburn brings readers back to Gossamer Falls a second time for yet another great adventure. This visit back to the beautiful yet dangerous Gossamer Falls hones in on the highly independent and caring Meredith Quinn. Meredith is a compassionate and giving dentist, who offers her services to the underserved in her region. When her caring heart leads her to help those close the more nefarious side of local society, Meredith's safety becomes a serious issue. When stranded on the side of the mountain road, Chief of Police Grayson Ward happens by and comes to her rescue. Grayson takes his job and duty seriously, but struggles to deal with Meredith's propensity to put her safety last. Meredith's heart is bruised from Grayson's apparent rejection of her attempts at friendship. Grayson's heart and manner is closed off to any chance of a relationship. He does not let anyone close. However, when Meredith's safety is threatened, Grayson immediately designates himself as her protector. Can they find a way to move on and grow closer as they are forced to spend more time together? Will Grayson be able to keep Meredith from harm or from even worse? Can Grayson and Meredith survive the proximity without either of them being shattered? Read Break My Fall to discover the answers for yourself!
I appreciated the setting of this book with the Appalachian culture as well as the tight-knit community setting with almost more relatives than non-relatives. The issues that Meredith and Grayson deal with in Break My Fall are real and are true problems for readers today. Whether obvious or hidden in the vicinity, throughout the world there is almost a consistent problem of drug culture, poverty, trafficking, domestic violence, and other evils that pollute the world from man's sinful nature. I always enjoy the humor, witty and bold characters, and the strong faith and family values that Ms. Blackburn's works bring to light as well as the real-world settings and struggles. While I did enjoy the overall book, themes, characters, and action-adventure thrills, I was slightly distracted by some of the dialogue. There were several places where the dialogue just fell flat and felt strained and simple. However, overall, I did thoroughly enjoy this book. The setting, adventurous plot, characters, humor, growth, and faith and family-focused writing made it a great read. Happy reading!
