If you like a long-lost friend group reuniting story, then this read is for you! There were so many mysteries occurring throughout this story, and each twist brought a new surprise. Minus one star simply because I felt the beginning of the story was much slower, and then the end was super fast where all the mysteries and twists came to a head. Overall, I would recommend this story as I can always appreciate a story that keeps me guessing throughout!
This book stared out to be a very interesting and exciting read about high school friends reuniting for Rod and Bella's wedding in Scotland. Lily and Zoe were best friends but have grown apart and all of the friends are 40-ish now. Bella was not part of the crowd and another friend in this road trip is Dan who is the former boyfriend of Zoe. Things get very complicated and I began to feel like I was back in junior high again and I ended up having a hard time finishing this book.
Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC of this book.
I enjoy a mystery surrounding old friends with secrets from each other who reunite to often even more tragic consequences and The Reunion was no exception. As we learn more and more about how each character was affected by the mistakes of the past, the reader is drawn deeper into the story. The characters embark on a road trip through rural Scotland en route to the wedding of the friends to a much younger women who seems to have secrets of her own. A second death sets the group on a harrowing journey to unravel who exactly is threatening their futures. Although I enjoyed the twisty path to the end, I felt there may have been one to many clues and characters at the as I feel like not everything was explained or was hastily wrapped up but it was still an enjoyable story I could not put down.
Four friends have not seen each other for years, but Rod is getting married, and he's invited all his old friends to his wedding in Scotland. Zoe, Lily, Dan and Rod decide ro car share their journey, but Rod brings his fiance Bella along, making it a tight squeeze in the car. Rob has inherited a large Manor house and he is now a wealthy man. Zoe is nervous about the reunion, but meeting with her friend Lily will hopefully put her at ease. We find out that one of heir friends, Saul, had died, and the memory of his death that night had fractured their friendships.
None of the characters were likeable.I did see where this story was headed, but that did not spoil my enjoyment of this book. There's a couple of twists in this easy to read book. It's told over a weekend and concludes on the wedding day. I found this quite an enjoyable read.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #BoldwoodBooks and the author #MAHunter for my ARC of #TheReunion in exchange for an honest review.
Three friends make a pact never to talk about that night again. They all have been tormented by the secret they have keep. Now, Rod has invited them all to his wedding in Scotland. They are shocked as no one seems to know anything about his fiance.
Zoe is looking forward to the roadtrip with Lily so they can have time alone to talk. She was blindsided when she realized-Dan, Rod and Bella were all going to be with them in the car. They have a night out partying but they wake up in a car only to discover that they have hit someone with the car. They all can't seem to remember what happened the night before. They struggle to put the pieces together.
I liked that all of these people had secrets they were keeping from each other and you weren't sure who to trust. I liked that it had multiple points of views and diary entries to give you different perspectives.
A fast paced psychological thriller that kept you guessing until the end.
3.5 stars!
After years apart, Zoe is invited to a wedding in Scotland, reuniting her with old friends and painful memories. A road trip with her friends turns dark and dangerous, leading to unexpected consequences that will make them question everything they thought they knew.
I had the privilege of being invited to read this book, which happened to be my first experience with this particular author. The story felt like a unique blend of The Hangover and I Know What You Did Last Summer, creating an intriguing mix of humorous mystery and suspense. The plot was meticulously crafted, and the writing itself was of high quality.
While I found the pace to be a bit slow for my personal taste, I still appreciated the well-developed characters who grappled with relatable everyday issues and hidden secrets. The first half of the book had me fully engaged, but as the story progressed, the tempo seemed to drag on with unnecessary explanations that left me feeling less connected to the narrative.
Despite my waning interest, I pushed through and completed the book. I understand that everyone has different preferences when it comes to literature, so I encourage you to give this book a chance. After all, our tastes in books can vary greatly, and you may find something to enjoy that I did not.
I am grateful for the opportunity to read this book and am honored to have been invited to do so.
Thank you, Boldwood Books for digital ARC copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Zoe joins an old group of friends for a wedding in Scotland. After some awkwardness of being back together, they run into some trouble which sets off a chain of events leaving them questioning everything they thought they knew..
The storyline in "The Reunion" managed to grab my attention with its plot twists. It was intriguing to see how the characters navigated through the uncertainties. The conclusion, although surprising, left me with mixed feelings. I appreciate NetGalley for providing the ARC.
this is a story about a group of friend who haven't seen each other in years. and three of the four have a secret. about how they were involved in the murder of one of the members in the group. rod is getting married to a women named bella. has invited them to join him. the story for me just feels a bit petty in the end.
I received an advanced copy of this book from Boldwood Books via NetGalley.
Readers follow Zoe as she nervously joins a group of estranged friends for a wedding at a secluded Scottish manor. Years have passed since she last saw them – years marked by distance, fractured relationships, and the haunting memory of a tragic night that claimed the life of their friend, Saul. As the group comes together, old tensions resurface, especially when an unexpected detour on a dark Highland road triggers a cascade of events that forces them to confront their shared past and buried secrets.
Hunter skillfully sets the stage with a gripping prologue that hooks the reader immediately. The novel is enriched by its atmospheric Scottish setting and the shadowy presence of Rod’s mysterious fiancée, which adds an extra layer of intrigue to the story. The pacing is generally strong, carrying readers through character backstories and present-day interactions with well-timed suspense, though it does lag slightly in the middle.
The central mystery—rooted in the friends’ pact to never reveal what happened the night of Saul’s death—unfolds through Zoe’s perspective, supplemented by hints of hidden motives and shifting alliances. While the plot follows a familiar formula of old friends with a dark secret, the narrative’s execution is engaging. The author’s deft handling of tension ensures readers stay invested, even as some twists turn out to be predictable. Those who enjoy thrillers might not be shocked by the reveals, but they will appreciate the steady build of suspense and character dynamics.
Despite its strengths, the book has some drawbacks. Dan’s character, for instance, is frustratingly indecisive, caught between romantic entanglements in a way that detracts from his depth. The twists, while plentiful, may not stun seasoned thriller readers who can piece together motives and truths early on. However, the story’s conclusion, if not groundbreaking, is satisfying enough to provide a sense of closure.

The Reunion by M.A. Hunter is a suspenseful thriller filled with questions and an unexpected ending!
It starts as an innocent reunion but then suddenly past catches up with the present and everyone is in a deep sh...ugar...
The suspense was all over the place! You would suspect everyone and everything! But who is behind the scenes?
I loved the drama behind the character's past and the way they were trying to mask things in present. Loved carefully hidden secrets in the past.
Kind of an unexpected (but a little bit expected) plot twist. Friendships that are questionable. No one to trust...
Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this copy!
Great read. I was enthralled right from the start. Loved the descriptiveness and the storyline. Intense and surprising. Will read more by this author
Suitably Eerie..
A trip for a wedding in Scotland brings together old acquaintances …. and, perhaps, old grudges in this steadily paced novel of suspense. A carefully crafted cast of characters populate a plot with an undercurrent of simmering menace, twists aplenty and a suitably eerie backdrop. Unsettling and compelling.
★★★.5
Four friends reunite after 20 years to celebrate one of them getting married. What was supposed to be a fun road trip to Scotland for former best friends Lily and Zoë turns awkward when they pick up their old friends, Dan and Rod, along with Rod’s fiancée, Bella. Long-buried tensions quickly surface, and the atmosphere becomes heavy. The next morning, they wake up in a strange yet eerily familiar situation, and it becomes clear that a huge secret they’ve kept hidden for the past 20 years is about to come to light.
Although the premise began with plenty of suspense, I found myself figuring out the twist fairly early. There were a few unexpected surprises as the tangled relationships were revealed, but, unfortunately, the main suspense faded for me.
Thank you to NetGalley, Boldwood Books, and M.A. Hunter for an early copy!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
This was a creative book with some surprises at the end. I had some premonition that things weren’t quite what they seemed.
All around interesting book with some plot twists. Definitely recommend it.
Rod is getting married at his parents’ family mansion on the Scottish island Jura. He has invited his old school friends Zoe, Danny, Lily to the wedding that he hasn’t seen in Twenty-four years. When they were at school there was an incident which involved themselves and they made a pact to never talk about it again. But life goes on and they haven’t seen each other since. The friends are interested to see Rod’s fiancé as they have never met.
The reunion brings up memories of the past incident all of them years ago and then they receive some anonymous text messages stating that they know what you did. There is also secrets that all four are trying to avoid revealing but soon starts coming out in the end.
This was quite an enjoyable read but didn’t pack a punch that other thriller stories do. I found personally there was quite a lot of back story and sometimes thought is this really necessary. 3.5 stars from me.
I thought the Saul story was a little blurry. I think there could be more context. Overall, this was a good read and easy to get interested in. The characters were very realistic with real problems! Well written
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of The Reunion in exchange for my honest review.
The blurb for this sounded really exciting and I was looking forward to reading the novel itself. And I did enjoy it. But…. There were lots of use of the word but 🤦🏻♀️
There were times where the characters just kept thinking. And thinking about the same things. Over and over. And why doesn’t anyone talk to each other? Properly!
That said, I did race through this in 24 hours or so, and on the whole I enjoyed the storyline and would read more from this author.
Overall, I enjoyed this. I found the start to be a bit slow, but then it really got going. The climax felt a tad convoluted, but I think it all works. Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley!
I really enjoyed this book and found the different stories of the individuals ,and how it all came together in this story, very interesting . The tale of the wedding and the reunion and the characters all came together into this great book . I would definitely recommend this and give it 5 stars . Look forward to the next by this author
This was a good thriller. On a Scottish island no less in a small house. The group of friends who head there aren't exactly best friends - oh there are some secrets amongst the suitcases! Plenty of twists and secrets that spill out at the most inopportune times. Enjoyed the energy of it all.
