I was expecting and hoping to love this book but it wasn’t for me. The book was pretty predictable.

The fmc wasn’t my favorite character. For being an older character, her decisions were very child like. I found myself yelling at the book, telling her to get it together !

Although it wasn't my favorite book, there were still so many parts I loved. I really appreciated how it explored writer's block and how relationships can influence a writer's work. And Angie and Martin’s love story? Beautiful!!

Just because this book wasn’t for me, doesn’t mean that you won’t enjoy it! Fast pace, easy read! 🤗

I like the relationship between Allie and Martin and thought their relationship was cute but found myself not being as invested in them as I would like. Although the premise was cute and easy going I found myself getting a bit lost and not being invested and found some storyline’s to be incomplete or not as well polished.

I also found the pacing of this novel to be a bit off even though I felt it jumped around a bit and some bits were a bit awkward.

I thought this was a cute idea of a book, but I wouldn’t necessarily categorize it as a romance, as the cover suggests. The romance between the MCs was whirlwind fast and not really discussed in full detail - the main focus of the story to me was the writing aspect and her relationship with Martin. The twists were predictable and we all know I hate the miscommunication trope. But overall a cute quick read with a unique plot line. 3.5/5 stars.

I liked the story , it was different than anything I have ever read . Main characters were relatable

Allie is a bestselling author in a writing slump. She meets another older author Martin who is in the same situation as her. Although they both write different genres (romance and crime), they team up to help get some inspiration and writing done while working on their struggling love lives. This book was a slow start for me, but started to pick up about 30% in. Allie is not my favourite kind of FMC, she seemed very judgy and immature for a 30 something successful writer and I really think she was the base for me not enjoying this book as much as I thought I would. Her love interest Will seemed like a decent guy but the relationship with them always seemed on the back burner, and I feel like I didn’t know him like I knew the other MMC, Martin, by the end of the book. The great part of the book was the friendly relationship between Allie and Martin. I found myself loving their scenes together as they pushed each other and it was so cute to see Martin and his love for his wife, especially that piano scene !!!! Overall, I did enjoy the plot, very cute and unique.

I received this book as an ARC reader through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I thought overall the story was cute but also extremely predictable. Our FMC made situations a lot more difficult for herself by not communicating with people and I felt she was extremely immature at times in the way she acted. The plot twist didn’t blow me away as I predicted it more or less when it started being introduced. It was an easy read but personally it wasn’t me!

So this is a disappointment. The story sounds so promising, but the execution is just meh. I couldn’t understand Allie’s behavior—it’s worse than a teenager’s. I can’t believe this is a bestseller author with several successful books. The storyline with “keeping it distant” makes no sense—where did she get her inspiration before? For a book called The Plot Twist, there’s nothing surprising in it, quite predictable. If it wasn’t an ARC, I wouldn’t have finished this book.

I found The Plot Twist quite slow to start with and I was distracted reading it - a sure sign the book isn't grabbing me. By abou 40% I was hooked and wanted to keep reading.
I actually enjoyed the side plot lines more than the main romance. I loved Martin and the writing partnership Allie had with him. It was great to have the point of view of bestselling authors and it was great when we met Martin's wife Angie also.
Allie's best friend Jess added in a lot of fun. However I don't think the storyline of the big bad new boss Jake and his demise added much to the narrative.
I did like how Will and Allie's story played out, but some things were a bit obvious (eg. what his job was, who he really was) and they were lacking communication.

This story has a creative plot as the FMC is a romance reader experiencing writers block who meets a crime writer who can relate. The twist is that this man is in his sixties and is not the MMC 😂

They become writing buddies and basically help one another write their next book. The male love interest enters the story as a waiter at a publishing party and there’s a “plot twist” that I would be shocked if it wasn’t obvious to everyone immediately haha.

At first, I loved the writing and the set up the story had me really vibing with this read. However, as it unfolded I felt like the FMC, Allie, was hardly actually ever with the “love interest” and the subplots took over the majority of the book. This book had cute elements, but by about halfway through I was struggling to finish.

I felt like all of the conflict in this book was brought on by both love interests being immature. The problems didn’t even really seem like “problems” but were simply dramatized in Allie’s mind and Will being super closed off certainly didn’t help. I also found myself very confused at points in between chapters. The author would skip over entire scenes and then slowly reference back to what had occurred but it felt odd not being able to read about entire seemingly vital to the story scenes. I get closed door romances but this took it to a whole new extreme where I didn’t even know what was going on at times.

Overall, a cute concept that started off strong, but I wish was expected differently. :)

When I first read the description of this book, I thought it sounded charming and was eager to dive in. While the story certainly had potential, the execution ultimately fell short. The book centers on Allie Edwards, a bestselling romance author struggling with severe writer’s block. She meets Martin, a middle-aged author once renowned for his crime novels, and the two decide to collaborate in an effort to help each other finish their next books. At the same publishing party where she meets Martin, Allie also encounters Will, a charming cater waiter who she hopes will inspire a romantic spark to reignite her passion for writing love stories.

Unfortunately, I found Allie’s character to be quite unlikable. Her immaturity and poor communication skills made me cringe in several scenes. While she's supposed to be in her 30s, she often comes across as much younger, more like a teenager than an adult. I did enjoy the banter between Allie and Martin, which added a refreshing dynamic to the story, but I found her relationship with Will to be underdeveloped. With so many different storylines happening at once, the book struggled to maintain focus and ultimately fell flat.

I devoured this book within 24 hours! The Plot Twist is just that. Whenever, I anticipated the plot to go one way, there was a hiccup and it went in a different direction. There are a few different plot lines to follow and I loved them all. It’s not just a romance story, but in actuality felt like a story of friendship.

The protagonist, Allie, was relatable with feelings of imposter syndrome, avoidance, implicit bias, and fumbled communication. I appreciated her character arc overcoming such human and vulnerable feelings of self.

I would have liked more spice and character development with the love interest, Will. It was built up and then left me wanting more. As a reader I felt and knew there was a connection, but was also left me without the more intimate details of how that came to be and wasn’t able to witness the connection develop as a reader. In a way, it’s like the reader was the friend hearing about the connection while catching up without seeing it first hand.

Allie’s relationship with Martin, however, grew and developed in a way that felt I was watching it first hand. I was very invested Allie’s friendship with Marin, making it feel first a book about friendship with the romance part being secondary. I actually really liked this, even though I did not anticipate it.

Additionally, there was another subplot related to shady work scandals and women being taking advantage of. I felt the author wrote about the topics presented with grace that informed the reader in a psycho-educational way, while also checking in on implicit bias, and supported the female characters in trauma informed empathic way.

This was the first book I have read by Eleanor Goymer and I’m looking forward to reading more.

I would give this book a 3.5 overall.

The romance was beautiful however I felt as though it was based more around Martin than Will. So when it got to the point of her falling in love with him I was a little lost as it didn’t feel as though we knew much about Will.

I did absolutely adore the relationship between Martin and his wife, those were definitely my favourite scenes. When they were singing together at the piano my heart was so full!

I liked this as a nice cute romance and the plot was very unique. I’d like to read more from this author!

This is a cozy read on a cold day! I loved the parallel writing stories of Allie & Martin, and the London setting. The publishing issues added a bonus plot element that enlightens readers on what authors endure, but also the ugly side of the power struggles that affect many women’s careers. I wanted more from Allie & Will’s relationship: it is such a cute concept of how they meet, but I was disappointed that their relationship issues left it very surface. Jess is a great foil as is DD. I love the grand gestures at the end, and how it all come full circle.

Hmmm.. the characters are likeable and you can easily get to know them, but also the book is very slow paced and it’s hard to stay engaged.

I really appreciated the premise of this book. It was different and unique in that it involved 2 authors, both at different but similar points in their career. I enjoyed Martin and Allie's relationship and always love books about authors and the publishing process.

Unfortunately, I struggled with the main characters. Allie was self centered and very immature. Will was also immature and miscommunication was rampant throughout the book. It served as a pivotal plot device and it felt like it did not give the plot or character development the depth I was looking for.

I also realize it is an advanced reader copy but encourage further editing as there were many run ons and fragments and it made the reading experience difficult.

I greatly appreciate the incredible effort and heart that writing a book demands and liked the design but not the implementation.

This book was borderline for me. The characters are likable but in my opinion, the pacing was too slow. I was also looking for more romance based on the blurb.

I personally feel that the author went a bit overboard with all the things our heroine had failed to say (confess) for one reason or another, none of which were valid in my opinion. So it was a bit of a forced story, or at least I read it that way, and rather than entertaining me, it made me anxious.

Personalmente ritengo che l'autrice abbia un po' esagerato con tutte le cose che la nostra eroina non era riuscita a dire (confessare) per una ragione o per un'altra, di cui nessuna valida secondo me. Quindi é stata una storia un po' forzata o almeno io l'ho letta cosí, e piú che divertirmi, mi ha fatto venire l'ansia.

The Plot Twist as a title has intrigued me! Coming onto this book I knew it was going to be a romcom, which I felt like delivered throughout the book. Though throughout the book I longed for more of a connection between the FMC and MMC, it could've been more focused. I am huge reader for strong character development and I felt like that didn't deliver as well.

With the book having issues revolving grief, friendship, family and workplace drama. It came all together to develop a easy flowing back story to everything. But overall the premise of the book was quite fun to read.

Allie is a romance author stuck in a rut. She meets up with a famous crime author who is also experiencing writer's block. Together, they decide to switch their plots. This was a cute read but I did have a hard time keeping interest and up with the book. The plot was cute and the characters were too. This book just didn't peak my interest but it is a good book to read after finishing any previous heavy reads to take a break!
