New to me author and this is one of my favorite aspects of reading advance copies. Discovering the voice of an author that touches me deeply. Having my own second chance love story, I’m always drawn to reading these type of stories. Foster and Eve have a bit of a unique story in that they were both a bit too young to actually tie the knot considering the logistics of their careers. It was a relationship that was doomed despite a great deal of love between them.

Beautifully written and the authors note gives a personal connection to the near death aspects of the main characters accident. Really loved the story. Would have just loved a tiny peek into the bedroom. Thanks for the advance copy.

Eve Cassidy believed that Guy Foster was the only man she would ever love. Their relationship was intense and passionate, culminating in a whirlwind romance and marriage. However, their love story took a tragic turn, ending in heartbreak.

Five years after their separation, Eve remains skeptical about the existence of true love. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she learns that Guy has been in an accident and discovers that she is still listed as his next of kin. This revelation compels her to be by his side during his recovery, as she cannot bear the thought of him waking up alone in the hospital.

“Still The One” is a contemporary romance filled with humor and heartwarming moments, appealing to fans of authors like Abby Jimenez, Lindsey Kelk, and Emily Henry.

This was probably one of the best if not THE best second-chance romance I've read in awhile! It was a slow, romantic yet an emotional roller coaster of a read that I will be thinking about for a long time. This was my first Aimee Brown book and definitely will not be the last.

Aimee absolutely nailed this second chance romance and did it with such flawless execution! She did so without making our heroine appear weak by using a little forced proximity to help them rub elbows and help them recall what once was.

Eve is an emergency room RN at a trauma center in the Pacific Northwest and she’s never quite got over her lost love, her ex husband.

Foster is a professional bmx racer who lives life on the edge of danger and he too has never gotten over his one and only love, his ex wife.

When fate decides they have wasted too much time the unthinkable happened and Foster ends up in Eve’s trauma room forcing her to let her walls down to be by his side during his worst. When it’s time for Foster to go home, he can’t fly and doesn’t know anyone in town so Eve is pretty much give little choice but to bring Foster home to recuperate. Being stuck together means they are basically forced to deal with the elephant in the room.

Can they find their way back to each others hearts or are they destined to be apart?

This book blew my socks off! It was so good! I didn’t want to go to sleep and wanted to stay up reading but with kids and work I had to wait but it was such a treat to go back to! I finished this book in less than 24 hours. It was that good!

Thank you to Net Galley, Boldwood Books, and Aimee Brown for the arc!

Still The One is a story about what once was. When Eve runs into Foster due to an unfortunate motocross accident, past emotions are brought back up after five years of keeping them under wraps. Things take a turn when Eve has to be Foster’s caregiver for a little while, and those emotions and memories that they tried so hard to bury come right back up.

This book was an endearing trip that leads us through both the past and the present of our FMC’s and MMC’s relationship. It’s almost bittersweet how each day plays out. I could tell just how much longing Foster still had for Eve and how much longing Eve had for Foster. It was definitely a slow burn to get to the point of reconciliation though.

All in all, I thought this book was pretty good. The pacing was great, the characters were relatable, the writing was decent. I just think this wasn’t necessarily the book for me, so to speak. Doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be someone else’s cup of tea! Because everything is there for a good story. I just think I needed more drama and maybe even more of a backstory on Foster and Eve, despite having the flashbacks.

Overall rating: 3.5/5 (rounded down)

Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Eve thought that Guy was the one. Except that it ended in heartbreak. Five years later, Eve was called because Guy was in the hospital and she was listed as his next of kin. She stayed with him to help him recover...

Love Guy and Eve. Very swonny and romantic. Enjoyed how they work things out. Really enjoyed it.

Thanks to the publisher for the arc.

Eve walked out on her ex-husband, Foster, 5 years ago. She had been trying to forget him and their whirlwind romance ever since. But… as fate would have it, he wound up in her trauma room in the ER on their 5 year anniversary.

Foster is a FMX racer and almost died during a competition away from home. All of Eve’s feelings and nightmares about losing him due to an accident came flooding back to her while she helped save his life and then decided to keep sticking around to nurse him back to health.

Like Eve, I’m an RN, so it was fun to read her experience as an RN and then also taking care of her ex. What a predicament that would be!

It was an emotional rollercoaster of them remembering their past, navigating their present situation, and then deciding how to move forward. As a reader, you want to yell at them and cheer them on to finally express what they truly want and rekindle their spark.

I like how the characters are estranged exes brought together by a medical accident. It's an interesting premise.

I enjoyed how the novel moves at a good pace and doesn't waste too much time on descriptions and boring stuff.

There are some grammatical and editing things that I didn't enjoy. It irks me that there is no line spacing in between paragraphs. There is also no new line for dialogue. There's also lots of boring adjectives, which could easily be changed by opening a thesaurus.

I don't really understand why the main character is supposed to be this really hard working medical professional who does a lot of overtime, yet she has time to scroll social media at work. During the day, not a break time. It doesn't make sense.

I feel like this novel has good ideas and excellent potential. It could be a great novel with a few tweaks and adjustments. As-is, I give it a 3/ 5

3.75 stars! Such a sweet, feel-good story! I absolutely enjoyed it. The main characters, Eve and Foster, are both so likable, and their chemistry is just chef’s kiss. From the very beginning, I was hooked on their journey, and the story flowed so smoothly that I breezed through it.

The book follows Eve, who’s a bit stuck in life, and Foster, her old flame, and you just know sparks are going to fly when they reconnect. Their banter is super cute, and I loved how the author balanced the emotional moments with humor. It had the perfect mix of heartwarming moments and light drama, without ever feeling too heavy or drawn out.

Aimee Brown's writing style is easy to sink into, and the pacing keeps you turning the pages. Everything just flows, making it one of those books you could easily finish in one sitting (guilty!). It's the kind of romance that leaves you with a smile on your face and a warm, fuzzy feeling by the end.

If you're in the mood for a heartwarming, easy-breezy romance, Still The One is definitely worth the read! Thansk to NetGalley and Publisher for the opportunity to receive an ARC of this book.

If you’re craving a swoon-worthy "will they, won’t they" romance, this one’s got you covered!
Eve Cassidy thought Guy Foster was her forever—until their whirlwind marriage crashed and burned. Five years later, love’s still a four-letter word for her… until Foster ends up in the hospital, and guess what? She’s still his next of kin. Cue those irresistible blue eyes that are impossible to resist!

When Eve finds herself playing nurse in her tiny apartment, sparks fly and old feelings refuse to stay buried. Foster’s confused if it's his injuries messing with his mind or if he’s seeing a flicker of that old magic between them. With their close quarters heating up, it's anyone's guess whether they’ll rekindle the flame or fan the flames of frustration. If you’re all about messy, tender, second-chance love stories, this one’s going straight to your TBR!

Eve Cassidy thought Guy Foster was the only man she would ever love. Theirs was a whirlwind romance and marriage - until it all ended in tears...
Five years after their break-up, Eve still hasn’t found a reason to believe in true love. But when Foster has an accident and she discovers she’s still listed as his next of kin, Eve knows she can’t let him wake up in hospital with no one by his side. After all, those devilishly blue eyes have always been hard to say no to… Outstanding. I'll be sorry to not have it to read tonight, but couldn't put the book down! I was fully immersed in this from the start… fascinating!

This was a fun, easy read for fans of second-chance romance. The characters were likeable and the plot was interesting. The writing was good with lots of detail.

However, this wasn’t a five star read for me for two reasons: Eve broke up with Foster but he’s made to seem the bad guy for not going after her - twice - when we should all just accept that “no” means no (and learn to communicate better if we don’t mean no). Additionally, the problems between the two that caused them to break up the first time never really got resolved - and another issue got added with a big lie.

I still enjoyed the story a lot. It was a sweet romance. The ending was well-done and very cute. I give this book 3.5 stars (rounded up to 4) and I will likely look for other stories by the same author.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the free eARC. I will post this review on Amazon and Goodreads closer to publication.

I did not love this book. The writing style just wasn't my Jan. The chapters were rather short, which probably was a good thing. But it made the story feel really choppy

Book Review: Still The One by Aimee Brown

Aimee Brown’s Still The One is a captivating blend of second-chance romance, heartfelt emotion, and slow-burning tension, providing readers with a delightful, swoon-worthy narrative that will appeal to fans of Emily Henry, Abby Jimenez, and contemporary romance lovers everywhere. At its core, the novel is a tender exploration of love lost and found, reminding us that time and space may not be enough to sever deep emotional ties between two people destined to be together.

Plot and Premise

The story revolves around Eve Cassidy and Guy Foster, whose whirlwind romance, marriage, and eventual break-up five years prior left deep emotional scars on both sides. Eve, still struggling with her belief in love, is unexpectedly drawn back into Guy’s life when she discovers that she remains listed as his next of kin after an accident. This unexpected call thrusts her back into his orbit, reigniting long-buried feelings that neither of them have fully moved on from. The plot takes off from here, focusing on their proximity as Guy recuperates in Eve's one-bedroom apartment—a perfect setup for the “forced proximity” trope that romance readers adore.

From the moment Eve re-enters Guy’s life, Brown creates a delicate emotional landscape, lacing it with humor, tension, and undeniable chemistry. The choice to have Eve care for Guy as he heals physically mirrors the emotional healing both characters undergo throughout the story. It’s not only a journey of reconnection but also one of personal growth, forgiveness, and rediscovery. This premise is wonderfully executed, avoiding clichés by balancing lighthearted moments with deeper reflections on love, heartbreak, and second chances.

Character Development

What makes Still The One so engaging is the depth of its characters, especially Eve and Guy. Brown crafts two deeply flawed, yet incredibly likable protagonists who are relatable in their imperfections. Eve is independent, guarded, and yet still vulnerable beneath her tough exterior, while Guy, despite his physical injury, remains charming and sincere, with layers of hurt and longing hidden beneath his devilishly blue eyes.

Eve’s hesitation to let Guy back into her life is realistically portrayed—she’s not a woman who forgives easily, and Brown does a wonderful job of slowly unpacking the layers of resentment and heartache that linger between them. Guy’s own journey, meanwhile, is poignant; he’s a man who never truly moved on from Eve and is grappling with his mistakes. His earnest desire to win her back, combined with moments of vulnerability, makes for a compelling “he falls first” arc that will leave readers rooting for his redemption.

The secondary characters, though not central, are well-written and add richness to the story. They provide light comedic relief and supportive counterpoints to the main couple’s turbulent relationship, helping the story maintain balance between emotional intensity and witty dialogue.

Romantic Tension and Chemistry

One of the novel’s greatest strengths is its romantic tension. Brown expertly builds a simmering connection between Eve and Guy that grows more palpable with each interaction. Their shared history gives their relationship an undeniable depth, while their close quarters create a space where old habits resurface, and unresolved feelings rise to the surface. The slow-burn romance feels organic and deeply satisfying, as every stolen glance and lingering touch carries the weight of their unresolved past.

The tension is further heightened by the fact that, for both Eve and Guy, the stakes are high. Both characters are cautious yet longing to rekindle what they once had. This dynamic adds a level of emotional complexity that makes the resolution all the more rewarding. By the time their feelings finally spill over into something more, readers are fully invested in their journey.

Themes of Healing and Forgiveness

Beneath the surface of this romantic tale, Brown weaves in deeper themes of healing and forgiveness. Both Eve and Guy are wounded by their past, not just from their relationship but from personal struggles as well. Still The One is, in many ways, a story about confronting unresolved feelings, learning to forgive, and realizing that love is not always perfect but can still be worth fighting for.

Eve’s journey toward vulnerability is particularly moving. Her reluctance to trust again and her fear of being hurt add a layer of realism to the romance that many readers will find refreshing. This is not a love story where everything falls into place easily. Instead, it’s about two people who have to confront their flaws and make peace with their pasts to build a future together.

Writing Style

Aimee Brown’s writing positively sparkles with wit, humor, and heart. She strikes the perfect balance between light, flirty banter and raw emotional depth, making the story accessible yet impactful. Brown’s characters speak with authentic voices, and her knack for infusing humor into everyday situations provides many laugh-out-loud moments, even when the emotional stakes are high. The pacing is spot-on, allowing readers to savor the slow-burning romance while still keeping them engaged with the progression of the story.

Conclusion

Still The One is a beautifully written, emotionally resonant romance that delivers all the feels. Aimee Brown has crafted a story that is both heartwarming and heart-wrenching, with characters that are easy to root for and a romance that feels both fresh and timeless. For anyone who loves a good second-chance romance, with all the delicious tension and emotional depth that comes with it, this book is a must-read.

Whether you’re a fan of Emily Henry’s insightful and witty love stories or Abby Jimenez’s emotionally charged romances, Still The One will not disappoint. Aimee Brown has created a love story that lingers long after the last page is turned, reminding us all that sometimes, love is worth a second chance.

This was a cute second chance romance , where we follow Foster and Eve as they navigate seeing each other for the first time 5 (ish) years after their break up. We know going into the book Foster is in an accident and Eve ends up looking after him, I really enjoyed reading about her supporting and helping him heal. This allowed them to slowly talk about the past and rediscover the things they liked about each other.

I enjoyed that the book included flashbacks to their past, allowing us to see how their relationship previously developed and got to see their pivotal moments before they separated. It added depth to the story and gave some insight to their past.

Overall this was a fun and enjoyable read!

I LOVED THIS STORY! I've read a few of Aimee Brown's books and this one is something extra special. I'm a sucker for a guy with tattoos and he reminded me of a guy in my building, so totally relatable! What I loved about this book:

The writing style: The wit and humor just had me giggling.
The story: I was surprised by the emotions I felt for these two.
The characters: I mentioned the tattoos. :) But also Eve and (Guy) Foster felt so real to me. Like I knew them personally, and that's hard to do. It must be because I don't feel that with most the books I read.

5/5 stars from me on this one! Thank you to the publisher and author for the ARC! Can't wait for the next book. Gonna have to go back and read some of her other books I missed.

This was a cute story. With one bad accident Foster literally crashes back into Eve’s life. Jumping back and forth from real time to five years before you get their whirlwind relationship recap and where they are currently in their lives. Foster and Eve never had closure from their short marriage. Seeing each other again brings up all sorts of emotions. The struggle is real to not fall back into old habits. Can a thrill junkie and a career nurse find what it takes to make it work? A lot of laughter, tears and love seem to be the answer.
