Serving as a minister for the past 30 years, it is easy during study time to return to old favorites for new insights. The State of Old Testament Studies has encouraged me to open my mind to new possibilities for study. These essays by a diverse group of Old Testament scholars does a great job of looking at was used in the past, what is new now, and comparing the differences.

I started reading this excellent book thinking I need to read it, just because. But after a few pages and skipping to other essays it became apparent I was enjoying the discourses and learning new things. This is an excellent resource for the scholars and theologians of seminary, but it will also benefit the minister who is studying for Sunday's message. There is a wealth of information that will help anyone searching for an understanding of the Old Testament.
