Thank you @DreamscapeMedia and @NetGalley for the ARC. The narrator of this book was awesome. Perfect for this book. If you are wanting to read or. listen to a great thriller, this is the book. I was guessing all the way to the end. A sister is trying to find out about her older sister who vanished in the blink of her eye. So good.
This was such a good dark and twisty cold case audiobook!!! I loved the alternate timelines and podcast elements!! I was hooked from the beginning and couldn’t stop listening.
Jessica was in college in 1998 when she went missing. Twenty four years later her younger sister Lindsey starts digging to try to uncover the mystery of what happened to her sister. Even though I knew earlier on who the suspect was…I was shocked at the twisted ending!!!! Also I think the author does a good job of making you question everyone! We read this for @thrillersbythebookclub.mke and it led to some great discussions!
Thank you @netgalley @crookedlanebooks and @katherinegreeneauthor for this eARC and ALC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
What the heck did I just read? Man, what a messed up family! I knew from the beginning who the killer was and I had an idea of why, but it was still so messed up. Definitely not your typical serial killer case. It was interesting to watch it play out, but it’s no wonder Jessica and Lindsey turned out the way they did. Honestly, most of the characters were pretty terrible people outside of what happened with the family. That’s not something I normally like reading, but I think it was still pretty entertaining to read!
Huge thanks to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for sending me this ARC for review! All of my reviews are given honestly!
The lake of the lost girls.
The duel storyline about missing college sorority student, Jessica Fadley- who disappeared in spring 1999. An unsolved mystery-,along with 3 other girls from her dorm.
In 2023, Lindsay, Jessica’s sister is trying to get to the bottom of the case that was never solved, Where her sisters body is.
As they pull the other victims from a nearby lake but never Jessica, Lindsay teams up with a journalist who pops in her life at random knowing a lot about the twisted case. Why does he know so much??
This storyline was decent. I liked the duel timelines that shared each of girls sides. The ending didn’t shock me. At all. I think it would work for you if you don’t consider yourself Magnum PI. I saw it coming and it was pre-annoying that we went that way. Too lengthy to then just dump the ending like a hot potato with no background on how we got there.
Just okay.
What a gripping book! I was initially excited to listen to this audiobook The Lake of Lost Girls by Katherine Greene because Helen Laser is one of the narrators and I love her narration! I loved the full cast on this audiobook. All the other narrators Frankie Corzo, Sara Young, Haley Taylor, and David Bendena are all great too. This suspense novel features dual timelines, multiple perspectives, podcast clips and the mystery of three missing female college students. I did not guess the ending! I was so curious to find out the ending so I read this book quickly in three days. The podcast parts were a bit over the top but I enjoyed the ride.
I really enjoyed the full cast narration as well as the podcast elements of this story.
The Lake of Lost Girls is told in multiple POVs and dual timelines, which immersed me in the story from start to finish.
With twists and turns around every corner and multiple suspects that all had motives and opportunities I was on the edge of my seat waiting for each new clue to drop and to see how it would end.
Which was a complete surprise! I feel like that ending came out of left field, but once you know the truth other little things you read before that didn't seem important start to make sense.
This had me hooked, I loved Lindsey and how the story of the disappearance of her sister and the other women at the university unfolded.
I will definitely be reading more by this author.
Ever since "Sadie" by Courtney Summers I have immensely enjoyed audiobooks with podcast vibes. In this book, Lindsey's sister Jessica went missing 20 years ago and now a body has been discovered. A podcast duo has taken on the case based on Lindsey's statement, and they provide commentary through the rest of the chapters. The book is told through multiple points of view and jumps between past and present. Throughout the book you are given clues to what happened, but are left wondering who really did it? Was it the professor, the boyfriend, the dad, or was it Jessica herself? While the ending does wrap everything up, it was not as satisfying as I hoped for. Still an enjoyable book with good narrators.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this eARC in audiobook format.
Katherine Greene’s The Lake of Lost Girls is a haunting and intricately woven mystery that captivates from the first chapter. The audiobook, narrated by a talented ensemble cast including Helen Laser, Frankie Corzo, Sara Young, Haley Taylor, and David Bendena, brings this chilling tale to life with exceptional depth and emotion.
The novel unfolds in two timelines, 1998 and the present day, centered around the disappearance of Jessica Fadley, a freshman at Southern State University in North Carolina. In 1998, Jessica’s life spirals out of control before she vanishes without a trace. Twenty-four years later, her sister Lindsey is determined to uncover the truth, spurred on by a popular true crime podcast, Ten Seconds to Vanish.
The full-cast narration is a standout feature of this audiobook. Each narrator brings their character to life with distinct voices and emotional resonance. Helen Laser’s portrayal of Lindsey captures her desperation and determination, while Frankie Corzo and Sara Young add layers of complexity to the supporting characters.
Greene’s writing is evocative and suspenseful, with a keen eye for detail and atmosphere. The alternating timelines are handled deftly, with each chapter revealing new clues and building tension.
The Lake of Lost Girls explores themes of sisterhood, trauma, and the relentless pursuit of truth. It delves into the impact of unresolved grief and the lengths to which people will go to find closure.
The Lake of Lost Girls is a compelling and atmospheric mystery that will appeal to fans of psychological thrillers and true crime. Katherine Greene has crafted a story that is both chilling and emotionally resonant, with well-drawn characters and a plot full of twists and turns. The exceptional narration by the ensemble cast elevates the audiobook, making it a must-listen for anyone who enjoys a good mystery.
The Lake of Lost Girls is a multi-media thriller with multiple POVs, and multiple timelines set in academia. It was done SO well! At no point was I confused by the number of characters or timeline shifting. I personally love a thriller that includes a podcast, but even if you are not into podcasts, I think you would enjoy this one because it isn’t an overwhelming element to the book. There was this overall sense of unease throughout, the book explored the ethics of true crime podcasting, imbalanced power dynamics, trauma, and withheld truths between friends.
I LOVED this full cast audiobook. Helen Lazer, Frankie Corzo, Sara Young, Haley Taylor, and David Bendena brought each character to life! I was completely immersed in the story. The short chapters in alternating POVs and media-types had me hooked. I had The Lake of Lost Girls in my headphones in every spare moment I had last week.
Thank you Dreamscape and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ALC!
A domestic suspense with some academy vibes. The story is told in alternating timelines with many POVs. There is also mixed media (a little bit from a podcast). I really enjoyed the multiple POVs, it was well done and I was never lost with the character. The narrators, Helen Laser, Frankie Corzo, Sara Young, Haley Taylor, and David Bendena all did a wonderful job portraying the characters. The tones and inflections were spot on. I found this book difficult to put down. I was hooked and I found myself trying to figure out who was behind it all and I was surprised when it was all revealed. The last bit with the podcast show really surprised me how it all ended. Leaving me wondering what Lindsey is up to now.
Thank you Netgalley & Dreamscape Media for an ALC of The Lake of Lost Girls by Katherine Greene. This was my first book by this author and absolutely will NOT be my last. This will certainly be one of my favorites reads/listens of 2024. I was immediately intrigued as I started this one, and found myself sneaking away from my life to listen (even if just for 30 more seconds).
The alternating timelines keep the plot suspenseful, while also fast paced. In present time, a podcast is uncovering a mystery of missing students from the same university while Jessica’s (one of the missing girls) sister Lindsey is desperate to figure out what happened on that fateful day. In the earlier timeline, it’s 1998 and Jessica is going through her own struggles. Her life is spiraling out of control when she suddenly disappears from her driveway.
Alternating between the two sisters, one in the present and one in the past, with podcast snippets weaved in, I absolutely couldn’t put this one down and will be recommending it to all of my true-crime and thriller loving friends. I did not see this ending coming!
4.5 stars! This was such a good cold case thriller that'll leave you guessing at the final reveal!!! The story follows two sisters across two different timelines, twenty-four years apart. Jessica Fadley, the eldest sister, has been missing since 1998. Lindsey Fadley was only six when Jessica disappeared, but her older sister's disappearance has haunted her ever since. When a popular podcast picks up the case, Lindsey is motivated to start digging for the truth but will she want to know the answers.
This is a smart, suspenseful, read. I was afraid it was going to be similar to other girl gone missing/podcast stories I have read but Greene does a great job of pivoting in all the right places and took a fresh angle that I really enjoyed. The audiobook has a full cast, including the talents of Helen Laser and Frankie Corzo. And while the story is mainly from the two sisters' perspectives, we hear from a handful of side characters as well. Overall, a highly entertaining listening experience!
The lake of lost girls by Katherine Greene
When female students all going missing within weeks of each other at a university, no one seems to think much is amiss and the whole investigation is botched but 24 years later a true crime podcast brings it all to the surface and the little sister of one of the missing girls has questions especially when a body turns up…
OMG this one blew my mind!!! It was so good! I don’t normally like slower paced thrillers but this one had me in a vice-like grip. The story unfolds in such a way you have no idea who could be guilty and if anyone even is because the cards are kept close to the chest on this one. You end up questioning everything, everyone, every dang word in the book.
I did not see the ending coming!! Not even a little! I got some serious whiplash for sure!!!
Not one man was likable but I get why it was done this way. Loved the writing and the plot.
4.5 stars!

This audiobook was so good! There’s mixed media, so I loved having the physical book to look through while I was listening. The narrators did a great job bringing the podcast element to life 🎙️
I think the authors did a great job making the reader question who the suspect was. I kept jumping around with different theories and was definitely surprised by the ending!
THE LAKE OF LOST GIRLS is a captivating thriller and I can’t recommend the audiobook enough!
As always, I had a great time discussing this one with @thrillersbythebookclub.MKE, and we’re excited to zoom with the authors on Sunday 💚
5 stars! Alternating timelines and podcast clips in between - this one hooked me! I’ve been in a bit of a book slump but this one had me powering through because I needed to know what happened. Building suspense and about halfway in things took a turn and I just hoped it wasn’t going where I thought it was. My mind kept changing until the end when things clicked into place and 🤯 I really enjoyed the audio version!
This one was great as an audiobook. Full cast of characters with a podcast element, I feel this was the way this one was meant to be absorbed.
If you are a fan of unsolved mysteries or cold cases revisited, this one is for you. When a podcast dives into a list of women that all disappeared from the same area, one of the missing women's sisters gets pulled back in time, to revisit the memories she has, along with the things she never knew about her long-lost sibling. When the bodies start to pile up, that's when things get really interesting.
Family drama, creepy professors, and unreliable investigators will keep you quickly moving through the story with great interest. The ineptitude of the police involved angered me to no end. About a third of the way in, I was a little worried I would be disappointed in the end, thinking I had figured out every twist. I was pleasantly surprised that I was left with one bigger aha moment, that made it all worth it for me in the end.
My only real disappointment was that I missed my book club discussion of this one.
Sometimes books that are told in alternating timelines can get muddled and confusing. But not The Lake of Lost Girls! Greene did a great job keeping me engaged and I never felt confused.this was my first read of this author and I will definitely check her out again. Great Thriller!
Unfortunately this one wasn’t for me. I found the dialogue/romance cringey and the podcast trope has been so overdone. Like the story itself, the narration felt a bit overdone as well. The killer was easy to figure out and will definitely cause an involuntary eye roll if you read a lot of this genre. I can’t say more without a spoiler. Lots of people love this novel, so if the synopsis interests you, you may want to read more reviews.
The book is compared to All Good People Here and We Are All the Same in the Dark, and I must respectfully disagree. It may be the comparison to those two stellar(imo) books that ultimately made this one a disappointment for me.
This book had me so invested, I needed to know who did it!!
I love how the author used podcasts, dual timelines, dual POVs, and other media sources to tell this story. It kept it interesting and incredibly propulsive! I thought I figured it out, then changed my mind, only to go back to my original suspect before finding out it wasn't them! This is the type of read you are signing up for with this one! So yes, I did figure it out by the end. But I was not at all certain of my suspicions until it was all revealed.
I found the ending a bit unsettling and like there were a few unanswered questions for me. But overall, I really enjoyed this book! Highly recommend!
Thank you NetGalley, Dreamscape Media and the author for the advanced audio of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I was excited when I saw this thriller included snippets of a podcast as I like that technique, especially for audiobooks. Overall I thought the narrator did a great job with the main characters, but I didn’t love the voices she made for the male characters. I did hope for more from the podcasters, but it was still fun. Lindsey’s life has been defined by the disappearance of her sister Jessica. Lindsey was only 6 when her college aged sister went missing and nothing was the same afterwards. Three other women went missing that year. Fast forward to the present and a body has been found. This has brought new attention to the cases and especially to the poor police work that was done. Lindsey meets a reporter who seems to be as dedicated to solving this case as her and she finds herself digging into the case and finding pieces of the story that happened to her sister. This thriller was fun, but I didn’t think it was super twisty. The culprit was pretty obvious early on, but I still enjoyed the ride.
