The idea for this story is a good one. There is a lot of potential.
However, this book needs an editor to take another [first] look at it, in my opinion.
The opening chapters are pretty poor. It all felt needlessly bloated and over the top descriptive. There was a lot of nothing.
The chapter where the MC was watching his partner diving and then getting changed was straight up weird and unnecessary.
Then, 5 pages of the two detectives talking about bowl movements was, again, unnecessary. If that moment was meant to be humorous, it didn't land.
There were many movements across the story that were similar to these examples. Unnecessary to the story, not funny, and at some points just weird.
I did appreciate how the story pulled together eventually, but by then, the writing style and additional content that wasn't helpful to the story had turned me off this book
