The wedding witch gives hallmark movie vibes, the story is sweet with a mystery and a sprinkle of spice to bring it all together.
I have been reading this series from the beginning, and every book I get more attached to the brothers and more eager to read their stories, which is often not the case for me with book series that follow families. This book did not dissappoint. I've been waiting for Bowen's story since the first, and this is everything I wanted it to be, plus more. Highly recommend.
Thank you to Netgalley, Hachette Australia & New Zealand, and Erin Sterling for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
3.5 stars, rounded down.
Y'all ever start reading something, immediately fall in love with the writing style, premise, and characters, have a fantastic time, and then hit the 50-65% mark and watch as the book takes a sharp nosedive in the opposite direction of what you were expecting? Yeah. That happened to me with The Wedding Witch.
And that's not to discount its quality, because for me, a three-star rating is a solid read that I enjoyed, but damn, I was so ready to give this book five stars. I feel like I've been walked down the aisle, only for my intended partner to turn around and suddenly be 30 years older than the last time I saw them. Catfished, maybe?
Anyway, The Wedding Witch was a boatload of fun. I had a great time. I liked the characters. I enjoyed the premise. I had fun with this genre mash-up.
So why the three star rating, Kyles? I hear you asking. Well, fellow reader, it all boils down to one simple thing I just could not look past: I hated the way the couple got together. Or if we were going to more accurately describe my sentiments, I hated the lack of explanation for why the couple got together.
If you base the entire premise of your book on 'we can't be together because we are colleagues', have both of the leads follow this and reinforce this for chapters (and chapters and chapters....) and then suddenly, have them get together with zero explanation or conversation about what shifted to lead them to getting together, regrettably, you've lost me.
Also, fair warning: this isn't really a Christmas read. Christmas is kind of just... there in the background, I guess? It didn't feel particularly festive, beyond a couple of log burnings and mentions of the difference between Christmas and Yule. Oh, and a funny reindeer themed drink? It's just winter aesthetic. So if you're picking this one up for a festive time, I rate picking up a different book. You can read this at any time of the year without feeling weird (I read it during October, if that says anything).
Anyway, have fun, pals. It's a good read. I liked it. You'll have a great time if you don't think too hard about it like I did. It's a solid junk food book. I'd recommend it to all of my friends.
I really enjoyed the Welsh holiday vibes, but felt a bit confused if it was supposed to be a Halloween or Christmas read. Maybe both? I love mystical Welsh themes.
Honestly, I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the Ex Hex. It wasn’t really memorable, apart from the time travel. Cosy, cute, but a little forgettable. The beginning of the story dragged when it could have been establishing a more detailed plot. There was alternative formatting early on that helped establish banter with the characters, but it was harder to read and easily flicked through.
I found the relationship went from nothing to everything REALLY quickly. Very much insta love, with not much character development. I was interested in knowing a bit more about Bowen, but missed out on that.
Overall, a light and easy holiday read, or as a palate cleanser from heavier literature
I was delighted when I got approved for this ARC from NetGalley because I've been waiting on the release date to finish this series!
It was a bit of an odd finish to the trilogy since the other two books both take place in Graves Glen at Halloween and this one takes place in Wales at Yule (Christmas) but a delightful read nonetheless! Yay for no third act break up and honestly the whole series is pretty relaxing because the big problem just solves itself at some point. I love the whole two odd ducks finding each other and insta love but we can't give in because we're work partners. A great cozy read for any time between Halloween and the winter solstice for witch romance girlies.
I didn't post this part on my socials - but FYI the formatting on the ebook is wonky, especially the first few chapters with the emails and text messaging; I had to go and read those on the Netgalley app which then seemed to have a weird amount of italics in the formatting.
This story about Tamsyn, a human, and Bowen, a witch, was super fun.
There was lots of banter, but also some really poignant moments that brought tears to my eyes.
The romance was really sweet with both characters secretly gone for each other from the start. However they were given room to get to know each other for a year before the main action started. I enjoyed the use of epistolary narration for this.
The mystery and intrigue as Tamsyn and Bowen work together to get themselves back to the present day after having been zapped back to 1957 was great. We also have a cast of fun side characters.
This book was hard to put down and I highly recommend it for a sweet cosy read.
