This fascinating book contains the writings of the philosopher Dietrich von Hildebrand that concern his battle with the Nazis as they took over Germany and then moved into Austria. The various letters and writings are joined together by a frame narrative that gives the reader context for the writings. von Hildebrand was a fascinating man and an example of one of those brave men who refused to be silent in the face of Hitler's rise to power. This book is a fascinating look into his world and gives context for some of his greater works of philosophy.
