**Book Review: *Angel of Death: Dearly Departed* (The Infernal Artifacts Collection, #3) by Ralynn Kimie**
*Angel of Death: Dearly Departed* is the third installment in *The Infernal Artifacts Collection*, and Ralynn Kimie continues to deliver a fast-paced, mind-bending mix of supernatural intrigue, high-stakes action, and unforgettable characters. This entry in the series dives deep into the realms of chthonic creation, pushing the boundaries of the paranormal and unearthing a new level of danger, mystery, and intrigue.
The story centers on Theodora Sharp, an 18-year-old internet tycoon, who is kidnapped by rogue demons desperate to ensure their survival in a time of unrest across the realms. The demons hold Theodora captive in a high-stakes game of manipulation and torture at the hands of the wicked Lady Lenuta. As the heiress is pushed to her breaking point, her latent, godlike powers begin to awaken. With each torment she endures, she grows stronger, more unpredictable—and possibly lethal. Lenuta, driven by a dark curiosity, continues to push Theodora further, unaware of the terrible consequences that might arise from awakening the immense power within her captive.
The tension in *Angel of Death: Dearly Departed* is palpable from the start, as Kimie crafts an atmosphere filled with dread and uncertainty. The primary focus is on the battle for Theodora’s life, with her incredible powers hanging in the balance. Kimie does an excellent job of balancing the physical and emotional stakes of Theodora’s captivity, showing her transformation from a vulnerable young woman to a force of nature with the potential to reshape the world.
Lady Lenuta is a chilling antagonist, one whose obsession with Theodora’s powers leads her to make increasingly reckless decisions. Lenuta’s arrogance and misguided curiosity are brilliantly portrayed, making her a fascinating character to watch as she unwittingly teeters on the edge of unleashing a disaster. Her dynamic with Theodora is at the heart of the novel, creating a push and pull between torturer and captive, with both women’s fates entwined in ways neither can fully comprehend.
Kimie’s writing in this installment is as captivating as ever, with a strong emphasis on the high-stakes nature of the story. The pacing is quick, with plenty of action-packed sequences that leave readers breathless, while quieter moments of introspection allow Theodora’s emotional and psychological growth to shine. The revelations about Theodora’s true power are intriguing and set the stage for even greater conflicts in the future.
The addition of Theodora’s well-renowned grandmother brings an extra layer of depth to the story. Her role in helping stabilize the chaotic situation adds complexity to the narrative, further blurring the lines between good and evil, light and dark. Her connection to Theodora provides a sense of family and continuity, grounding the fantastical elements of the plot in a human connection that readers can root for.
*Angel of Death: Dearly Departed* explores themes of power, survival, and identity, as Theodora struggles to understand the immense force within her and the cost of controlling it. Kimie touches on moral and existential questions as Theodora grapples with whether her powers are a gift or a curse, and the tension between her desire for freedom and the inevitable responsibility that comes with her newfound abilities.
This installment in *The Infernal Artifacts Collection* is a thrilling ride from start to finish, combining supernatural mythology, heart-pounding action, and deep character exploration. Kimie has once again proven herself as a master of crafting supernatural thrillers that are both intellectually stimulating and emotionally resonant. The cliffhanger ending promises even greater things to come, and readers will be eager to see what happens next.

Angel of Death is a mix of dark fantasy, action, and character-driven storytelling. From the very first chapter, I was hooked by Theodora "Teddy" Sharp's journey.
Teddy’s character development is one of the strongest aspects of the book. She starts as a spoiled but talented prodigy, and through pain and resilience, she transforms into a fierce and complex heroine. Her dynamic with Sam, her bodyguard, adds layers of humor, tension, and warmth that kept me invested in their relationship.
The world-building is fantastic, blending supernatural elements with historical undertones in a way that feels fresh and immersive. The pacing is excellent, with thrilling action sequences, unexpected twists, and just the right amount of emotional depth.
Overall, Angel of Death is a gripping book, perfect for readers who love strong heroines, morally gray characters, and a touch of dark humor.

Angel of Death is so good! It hooked me in right from the start. Teddy's story has a little of everything, from paranormal and mystical elements to romance and struggles with body image, eating disorders, and depression. She goes through event after pivotal life event, and she grows from spoiled, rebellious teen prodigy to a mature person. I was completely into it from start to finish
cannot wait to find out what happens next after that ending

An extraordinary teenage genius and her grandmother are being forced to help stabilize chthonic creation. Theodora and her grandmother are tortured every day by the wicked Lady Lenuta, a chthonic who wants to take the world at her palms. Theodora has a secret power which grows day by day. Then, it is time for her to transform, unleash her evil power and save the world.
Paranormal - sci-fi with magic as the base and semi-superhero vibes as condiments. The FMC, Theodora, is a spoiled brat. In the story, I can feel her character development became growth and mature. The murders happened in a paranormal way. This story is full of tragedy-agony events and many people are killed, including civilians. There’s technology involvement, but it didn’t make the story lose its paranormal elements.
The story itself is a very high fantasy and a little bit heavy alongside with thriller and suspense. Theodora wants to save everybody, like “Van Helsing”, who hunts every evil creature with her own dark evil power that she has.
There is a diversity in culture, heritage and lineage that I'd not have expected to be there in a paranormal fantasy book. It is really such an experience and fun to read a book like this. The one thing that is I'm concern is that I still find it hard to think and imagine what kind of picture Theodora is when she transforms to her “Special form”.
I enjoy jumping in on Theodora's story and will definitely continue reading the next book.

I absolutely loved all three of these books and read them back to back because I needed to know what would happen next! The characters were so well done and believable it felt like I was getting to know new friends and enemies and I was so sad to reach the end! But these are stories that i will absolutely be reading again, the story never went where I expected and had me enthralled throughout.

The third book definitely kept me hooked and took me to a different dimension of worlds altogether! The world of infernal artifacts kept me soaked in for a very long time!!! Can't wait to get my hands on the copy! 😍😍

I love everything that has to do with chthonic so you bet i loved it! But Lenuta? Girl no no. I hated her. Plain and simple. And that’s how I know that the author is good because she made me hate a fictional character that much!

Raye does a wonderful job of mixing mythology and lore into her story and doing so in a way that’s believable. She also has a way of writing characters that are not only likable and relatable but make you feel what they are feeling without spending too much time on it. It’s mastery.
Teddy is relatable and while I was not a child prodigy, I did see a bit of myself in her and in her growth (which was real and not always forward moving, which is 100% relatable). That grieving process, it’s real.

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC!
I've now read all the books and I really liked this one. Took a while to warm up to the main character but there was a good character building so happy in the end. Lots of action, well written side characters, great plot, if you like YA this book is for you!
4 Stars

Book Review: Angel of Death: Dearly Departed by Ralynn Kimie
I have genuinely loved all of the IA books so far, but this one is, without a doubt, my favorite. While it can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the other two books in the series first. Doing so will give you a deeper appreciation of the references and connections, even though they’re well-explained within this story.
Once again, Ralynn Kimie masterfully weaves mythology and lore into her narrative, creating a world that feels both fantastical and believable. Her talent for crafting characters is unmatched—they’re not only likable and relatable, but they also evoke genuine emotion without overly lengthy descriptions. It’s a true testament to her skill.
Teddy, the protagonist, is incredibly relatable. While I can’t claim to have been a child prodigy, I saw pieces of myself in her journey and growth. Her character development is authentic—progressing in a way that feels real, with both forward strides and setbacks. The depiction of her grieving process is raw and deeply resonant.

Kimie has continued to expand upon her world building in the first toe novel and this one does not disappoint. Another page turner, so much happens in less than 300 pages its bittersweet when you finish. I can’t wait for the continuation of all the Infernal Artifacts collection. Just like the previous books this one can be read as a stand alone or as part of the series, and like the previous books this one made me cry as well. One of my favorite parts of this book was a conversation between two characters in which one says “I used to be obese…it made me angry, a little resentful…I got in shape…” and the other asks “did it make you happy” and the first responded “no”

I am officially obsessed with Ralynn Kimie's books, and her writing style!
I love that it's part of a series, but can also be read alone - I highly recommend you pick up all three though! This leads into another series, which I hope will be released soon, because I've been spacing out my books from her so I don't have go wait for another!
Each book in this series seemed better than the last, and I devoured this one. There's paranormal intrigue, mystery, history, and even a little bit of romance tied in that I need more of! It's so easy to be sucked into this world - because it feels like ours, but better. I loved Teddy's character development throughout the book, too! I started out feeling like she reminded me a bit of Bryce from CC - but she came out and is now one of my favorite book characters ever! I found myself flipping the pages not wanting it to hit 100%!

Dot Sharp is a woman from the Corpse Walker. One of the scientists, highly intelligent and super secretive. Dot has a granddaughter that has always been an interesting hot topic, as her daughter and son were killed in a tragic accident, you learn the secret that Dot has kept in order to keep Teddy alive.
Teddy grows up as a super-rich child with the infamous issues of a child with no parents, too much money, lack of self-esteem, an eating disorder, too many paparazzi invading her life and a lack of purpose that stems her reckless behavior as an 18-year-old who has the brain of an off the wall genius. She has a tech company that she's the CEO of, men in her bed waay older than her and awards after awards, plus she can't let go of the penthouse in Seattle. This chick is a mess, and it all takes a twisted turn when she gets her grandmother killed. She realizes that she doesn't know everything and then soon has to grieve and grow the fuck up pretty quickly. She goes through her own trials of identity, and you see the constant troubles of her eating disorder with the uncomfortable-ness she experiences admitting to someone other than herself how she feels. This book does have the connection where she has the supernatural ability to call the Night watch (from the Corpse Walker) and she called the Corpse Walker himself back to the present. The series continues as we still don't know the BIG villain, but we learn more about the SMOKE and MIRRORS and the abilities of these artifacts.

First off, this is nothing against the author or publisher but I need to read better haha. I didn't realize for whatever reason this was part of a series.
With that being sad, it was a okay book. There were some times that the book was boring and I struggled to continue. Teddy was an average character to me but that's due to me going into this book blind. Recommend reading the other books first.
Thanks to author, publisher, and Netgallery for the ARC!

To be honest I wasn’t a massive fan on this book and I don’t have much to say about it.
It was interesting getting to know teddy as a character but I really struggled to get into this book and I did find it quite boring. There was a few times I was like I need to know more but it was only a handful of times. I’m really gutted I didn’t enjoy this book as it seemed really good and fascinating but it’s not something I majorly enjoyed and it did put me in a reading slump as it took about 3 and a half weeks to get through it.

Teddy, Theodore Sharp has been raised by an exceptional grandmother following her parents deaths. She has been blessed with intelligence, wit, wealth and success and I guess you could say despite all the glamour she’s a rather spoiled. Teddy has had a tough life and this book takes Teddy on a discovery about her family, the world, and herself… and she truly is a very special lady indeed!
I enjoyed the plot of this book, there were lots of elements I didn’t expect as the pages were turned and I found the pace from around a third in to be perfect. The first third was a little slow for my liking and didn’t have the world building or character building to warrant it.
I know nothing of the lore introduced in this book or the places but I found them captivating and will be googling more about the lore for my own benefit. The concept of the plot without giving spoilers was well thought out and unique which kept me interested.
The FMC and MMC were great though little growth or character development was there for Sam. Teddy however really was a great development arc! Her tendencies, the root of her “issues” were all well founded and it was beautiful to see her flourish in her own self throughout the book to the end. I really hope her and Sam appear as a couple in later books! They are perfect together, effortlessly made for each other.
The writing felt clunky in parts and I found myself re reading paragraphs or sentences to ensure I had understood the switch in character correctly and had that not been the case, this would be a 5 star read.

I dived into this immediately after finishing Discouri and I think I love this one even more if thats possible!!
Teddy's character development is absolutely precious and I love how she grew into a different version. And her grandma was amazing, so sassy and badass just as Teddy is!
This book had so many twists and turns and it kept me on my toes, I finished this in one day because it was so good I couldn't put it down!! The writing style in this book is just so fun and easy to read and really ties everything together.
100% would recommend this book!
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher as well as the author for an advanced reader copy.

This marks the third installment in The Infernal Artifacts Collection, but Ralynn assures readers that it can be enjoyed in any sequence.
Theodora Sharpe is a remarkable child prodigy whose journey we follow from her teenage years into young adulthood. Her character development was so amazing.
She begins as a spoiled child, but as events unfold, she is compelled to grow and mature. Along the way, she must also face her past, which plays a crucial role in shaping her character.
She is beautifully flawed and relatable. The narrative of her life is nothing short of extraordinary, with numerous moments crafted so skillfully that you can genuinely feel the emotions they convey. There’s joy, sorrow, betrayal, banter, and unexpected twists. And the ending? I’m still buzzing with excitement about it!

This collection just keeps getting better!
The background coming from the previous novels in this collection made this one have that extra reader satisfaction that we all crave from a series.
"Teddy" is not your typical teenage girl - a child genius and prodigy of Dorothea Sharp (the incredible woman who pretty much saved the world), she is thrust into a world of secret agents, demons and of course facing the consequences of her Grandmothers deal with death to save her life.
The infernal artifact, Death's Scythe, is once again the focus. The mystery and suspense of this artifact is so well written. You are immediately drawn to the power and relevance of its background alone.
Ralynn has once again created a complicated world and plot that is easy to understand yet keeps you wanting more with every page.
Easy 4 star rating from me.

I had the amazing opportunity of beta reading this book for Ralynn Kimie and the ending! I was NOT expecting that. I didn't like Teddy much as a character (view spoiler) Teddy does have an eating disorder, so if that's a trigger for you, I would read with caution! She focuses on her body and her appearance a lot. She takes a little while to get comfortable in her own, but it's still pretty apparent. I did like this, only because I'm glad it wasn't overshadowed by the other things she goes through. EDs are a constant struggle and it's not something that's fixed overnight. So I do like that she didn't suddenly love herself by the end of the book and I can't wait to see how she grows over the series!
This is Ralynn Kimie's first book with a female protagonist though and I think she did great! I also loved the brewing slow burn romance. There's a few time jumps at the end, so I'm hoping in the next Angel of Death book we'll have a little more on if there's been any development here! I have noticed Ralynn tends to shy away from romances in her work and as an aro ace myself I don't typically care to read it but I love the way she included it without it taking away from the story and I hope to see something progress between them in the series!
The ending though was... WHAT?!
I need the next book!!
