*The Mindfulness and Acceptance Workbook for Anxiety* by Georg H. Eifert and John P. Forsyth is an absolute game-changer for anyone struggling with anxiety, offering powerful tools rooted in acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) that truly help transform the way we approach anxiety.
In its third edition, this workbook is packed with new exercises, updated practices, and fresh insights that are incredibly practical and accessible. It walks you through the process of breaking free from the cycle of anxious thoughts and emotions without trying to “turn them off” or avoid them, which is exactly what makes it so effective. Instead of battling anxiety, the workbook encourages a more compassionate approach—teaching readers to accept, understand, and make space for their feelings, ultimately weakening their power.
What stands out to me is the emphasis on mindfulness, self-compassion, and values. The authors not only provide helpful strategies for managing anxiety, but they also guide you toward reconnecting with what really matters in your life, so you can focus on what brings you joy and purpose. It’s a refreshing perspective, showing that it’s not about eliminating anxiety but learning to live with it in a way that doesn’t control your life. The exercises are easy to follow, and they really make a difference. Whether it’s through guided mindfulness practices or reflecting on your core values, you’ll feel more equipped to take charge of your anxiety, rather than feeling like it’s in control of you. It’s one of those books you can come back to again and again, as it offers ongoing support for your journey.
Overall, I highly recommend this workbook to anyone dealing with anxiety—whether you’re new to ACT or have used these techniques before. It’s a well-rounded, compassionate, and incredibly practical guide that can help you not just manage anxiety, but also build a richer, more meaningful life.
The Mindfulness and Acceptance Workbook for Anxiety is an incredibly helpful workbook for anyone who struggles with anxiety. The marriage of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) with mindfulness and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) provides an empirically-supported set of strategies to help you stay grounded, think like a scientist, and grow!
This book was a decent beginner book to learn about mindfulness skills. It’s not my favorite mindfulness workbook but it’s not a bad option.
I love anxiety workbooks. I’ve found them to be so helpful. This one is very well done and useful. Definitely worth picking it up and giving it a try.
I love continuing to read and learn about how I can manage my anxiety. While there are many resources available on anxiety, I tend to gravitate toward workbooks because they provide a framework and direction for how to address my issues. This workbook, "The Mindfulness and Acceptance Workbook for Anxiety," by George H. Eifert and John P. Forsyth is outstanding in its focus on identifying and addressing anxiety in a manageable way. I loved that it is organized so that the reader can take this one step at a time. I also appreciated "The Take Home Message" at the end of each chapter as a summary and focus for change. Each chapter provides life-enhancement exercises, worksheets, and questions that as a reader, encouraged me to be thoughtful and introspective. I found the focus on observing, accepting, and being mindful to be a useful approach that I feel will finally allow me to manage my anxiety.
