Oldest Mom on the Playground is a collection of relatable, heartwarming, and humorous essays. Written in her signature conversational style and with a touch of sarcasm, Judy takes readers on her journey of getting pregnant after forty (and delivering the baby during a full moon), raising a child in New York City (including the time she lost him in a grocery store and found him standing on Broadway), leaving the career she spent decades building to volunteer as a preschool class rep, to becoming a card-carrying member of the sandwich generation.
Judy offers no parenting advice, only personal reflection. And she takes nothing in her life for granted. Her message to other midlife mamas is this: trust your gut, let your life experience guide you, and pray no one ever mistakes you for the grandmother.
I am a woman who became a mother at the age of 36, so this book except spoke to me immediately. It was such a great read. I would definitely recommend for older moms, but also younger women as well. It may make you take a different look at us.
I received an ARC of "Oldest Mom on the Playground" from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book completely captivated me! I initially had no idea it was a biography, but once I realized it was the author's personal story, I was all in. Judy's sharp sarcasm and raw honesty shine through as she shares her experiences as a mother to her son, Jack.
I highly recommend this book to all mothers seeking a relatable and uplifting read. Judy's journey reassures you that you’re not alone in the challenges of motherhood. I also appreciated the illustrations sprinkled throughout, showcasing Judy's life milestones with family and friends. It added a lovely touch to the narrative. This is a must-read for any mama!
My mom was forty when she had my little sister, and so this book was just SO good! I am a mom of four, and I just melted with each page. Judy Haveson, you wrote a phenomenal story! Loved every minute of it.
Every mom will relate to this beautifully written book. I laughed and cried as I related Judy's journey to my own experience of motherhood and I found myself nodding in agreement about the joys, struggles, and everything in between. Whether you are a new or established mom, young or one of the oldest on the playground, the theme of friendship, family, love, fear, and the ups and downs of life will remind you of the magic of motherhood.
