In rhyming text by Megan Saben, two eager children watch step-by-step as their new home is built over the course of a year. With an adorable puppy to find on each page and a collection of boards, pipes, and wires, New House, New Home is the perfect gift for aspiring builders.

What a great book for littles to learn about a new home being built and the changes it brings.

A brother and sister use blocks to play at building a new house while workers build their actual new house, including descriptions of construction, plumbing, electrical, and other areas of the building process. The rhyming text has bounce but is a bit uneven; for example, rhyming “come” and “home.” The pastel-colored artwork depicts a white family but the workers represent various racial groups. The style of the illustrations are simple cartoons, almost as if a child did the drawings. The last page lists things to look for, such as “Find the dog on every page.” A serviceable story on moving to a new house.

Very simple verse narrative of the wait for a newbuild house to be finished – while the kids are ready to pack when the foundations are levelled off, they have to wait for the plumbing, electrics and drywalling to be done first. While it's rhymed, and rhymed well, I didn't really take to the visuals, and this contained not enough of the science involved in providing a house, so it's not even really feasible to call this a STEM book – and as a narrative it's a little on the weak side.

This is the perfect book for families planning a move and a new twist on a construction book for kids who love building things! Megan Saben and Liz and Kate Pope capture the excitement and worry about this big life change, while also giving us a fun book about construction and a parallel story with kids and workers creating this new home. The activities in the back are also lots of fun!

Received an ARC from NetGalley.

A simple book about the process of building a house and describing steps. Good for younger children if a bit simplistic.

While the concept of this book was good, the flow and the ending didn't seem to fit together well, at times rhyming but then others ending flat.

As a realtor, this would be such a fun "congrats" gift to give to clients who are moving and have kids. Very fun and cute read.

The illustrations were really sweet, but I found the story itself hard to follow. It required a lot of leaps and I don't know if a kid could do that. I enjoyed the rhyming but, again, the story did feel linear enough. I wasn't sure if the kids on the alternate pages were waiting for their home or if they were pretend playing building. The story did little to explain the building process, just putting in bits and pieces of building-related activities.

There were questions and searching activities at the back and they were definitely a redeeming factor.

Sweet book, but missed the mark for us.

The kids are building a house, step by step and piece by piece. The pictures are simple and fun, and there are little activities at the end like "Find the dog on every page." This would be a fun interactive book that kids could learn to work through on their own. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this

A light story perfect for those under 3. There is not much substance to this book for older toddlers/elementary. I enjoyed the pictures, and my child enjoyed finding the dog on each page. I always appreciate rhyming books as they are so critical for language development.

Saben takes readers through the home building process through the eyes of children. We see them describe what is happening in one sentence for each idea. The artwork is drawn as if the child created it to tell the story of their family's move. The questions at the end challenge readers to look back through the book and find the items. They also ask readers to think about the home they would build. A fun read for younger readers. Perfect for families who are moving.

A quirky illustration style and great topic, I enjoyed the use of rhyme throughout. I had not expected half the storyline to be on physically building/renovating a home whilst the children just waited. Some entertaining search and find elements and questions for those reading to engage with at the end really add to the book!

'New House, New Home' fits the bill for helping children acclimate to the dramatic change of moving into a new home. The pastel hued, welcoming illustrations bring some exploration into the process of creating a new home in all of its complexities. There's so much fun to have when entering a new space and I think that this book will allow kids a better chance at doing so in a positive light.

I was a preschool teacher for five years, and I wish I had this book of Megan Sabens. She wrote the most beautiful words and created such a darling childresns book! It was adorable. My four kids and I cherished every minute of it. Well done!

We get a view of a new house being built and the long wait for completion, as understood by a child. The book has colorful and fun illustrations. It also comes along with a 'look and find' activity list that would be fun to do on rereads as well as questions to discuss with your child.

What a fantastic book for children about the process of building a new home.

It takes children through step by step with short, easy to read phrases. So it is a wonderful storybook with fun pictures, but helps explain what is happening.

Moving, and especially building a new house can be such an abstract idea for young children, especially if they can only remember having one home. This book would be a great tool for families going through this process with young children!

Thank you to NetGalley and Familius for allowing me to read and review this book.

Such a wonderful book exploring building a house through the eyes of a child. Love that it touches base on the timeline. Adorable illustrations. Love the look and find at the end as well as the exploratory questions to encourage children in designing their own home.
