We Three Kings by Kristen Bailey was a delightful Christmas story. Maggie Field is planning on a quiet Christmas alone as her parents are away. She is the head of IT at a financial firm, and her three geeky but lovable work buddies invite her to spend time with them and their families over the holidays. She is looking forward to getting to know them better, until she finds out that she has to make one of them redundant after the holidays. Frank’s work is his world, Jasper’s sarcastic humour is everything but it also gets him into trouble, and Leo her new hire is talented, professional, confusingly attractive, dependable, and funny, but the newest employee. How will she decide? How can she spend the holidays with their families and not tell them?

I enjoyed getting to know Maggie's colleagues and their families right along with her. Maggie's Christmas adventures are wonderful as she plays a fake girlfriend for Frank and accompanies him to a family wedding, visits Jasper at his family's posh country estate and sees the real Jasper as well as rescuing baby foxes and getting more than she bargained for, and finally meeting Leo's oldest friends and chasing a very confused donkey on Christmas Day in the Lake District. I was laughing long and often at times, but also feeling empathy for some of what her colleagues were dealing with. The more time she spends with Leo, the more her feelings grow toward him. How can she decide who to let go? The ending is a wonderful surprise and I enjoyed every minute spent with this wonderful group of characters. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Harrie Dobby. This was a new narrator to me and I enjoyed listening to this one. Her storytelling was spot on, with voices, expression, tone and pacing perfect for me. I definitely recommend We Three Kings in whatever format you prefer.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Really liked it, stuck with me & would recommend
I needed a feel good rom-com and this fit the bill perfectly. I loved the workplace cast of misfits that the main character, Maggie, their manager, leading the charge with compassion and care. And of course this wouldn't be a rom-com without the romance, and that felt sweet, real, and natural. Even though it is set during the holidays, this is cute enough for any time of the year.

The narrator, Harrie Dobby, did a good job, I had no trouble understanding who was saying what, where, when, and with what expression/intension.

Thank you to Dreamscape Select, NetGalley, and author Kristen Bailey for providing me with a digital ARC copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. We Three Kings is out October 14, 2024.

We Three Kings by Kristen Bailey is a festive, feel-good rom-com that perfectly balances humor, heart, and holiday spirit. Maggie Field’s adventure through a Christmas filled with her quirky workmates, career dilemmas, and unexpected romance is both charming and laugh-out-loud funny.

I loved Maggie’s dynamic with her team—Frank, Jasper, and Leo each bring something unique to the story, and their antics kept me entertained from start to finish. The mix of heartfelt moments and absurd, laugh-inducing scenarios (a confused donkey on Christmas Day!) added so much personality to this book. The sparks between Maggie and Leo were undeniably sweet, and I appreciated how their connection developed naturally amidst the chaos.

Kristen Bailey’s writing shines with witty dialogue and vibrant descriptions, making it easy to immerse yourself in Maggie’s world. While the plot was delightful, the resolution of the work-related conflict felt a little rushed, and I would have loved a bit more time spent on Maggie’s tough decision.

Overall, We Three Kings is a heartwarming celebration of friendship, love, and finding your place. It’s the perfect book to curl up with during the holidays, and I’d recommend it to anyone who loves a festive rom-com with big laughs and even bigger heart.

This is one of my favorite holiday books from this year! I loved this story, the characters, and I LOVE a good he falls first story!! Each of the men were charming and I loved seeing their secrets and relationship with Maggie evolve and develop. They were all fiercely loyal and protective of her and I loved their friendship.

I read a lot of holiday romance during the winter holidays, and I think We Three Kings was my favorite among them for 2024. This was a sweet story that I loved from beginning to end. It was not only a romantic love story, but a story of the love shared among friends that happen to worm together. I absolutely loved it.

What would you do if you were forced to choose between firing one of your three best friends? What if you were invited to Christmas with each of them? What if you were falling in love?

This was easily the best holiday themed book I read this year, as evidenced by the fact that it only took me two days. I adored the fact that this included a romance but was not solely focused on that aspect. While a little heightened, the friendships and stories felt grounded in truth. Each of the characters were distinct and I appreciated that despite developing romantic attraction with one, Maggie equally valued her relationships with all three men. It was a demonstration of the value of platonic love, even when held up to romantic love. I adored it!

This is a fun, silly, holiday romp with a lot of heart. It has some lightly described, mostly off page, spice which really appealed to me but may be a point against for some readers. However, I would encourage anyone looking for a feel good Christmas story with a solid romantic storyline to pick this book up. I will definitely be recommending it again next year.

Having thoroughly enjoyed Kristen Bailey's previous Christmas novel, Five Gold Rings, I was thrilled to receive an early copy of her latest festive offering, We Three Kings. This time, we follow Maggie, an IT consultant who manages three men-Leo, Jasper, and Frank-from the cozy yet chaotic basement office they share. Their bond is unmistakably that of a found family: supportive, quirky, and deeply interconnected.
When Maggie is invited to spend Christmas with each of her colleagues, she eagerly agrees, but her excitement is tempered by a devastating ultimatum from HR the day before she departs with Frank to his sister's wedding. She must decide which of the three men will lose their job. What follows is a heartwarming, often hilarious, and sometimes bittersweet journey as Maggie grapples with this impossible choice. Along the way, there's an extravagant wedding, charming encounters with mischievous foxes, a whimsical escapade into the woods, and an unexpected romance set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Lake District.
Maggie is a delightful protagonist-genuine, relatable, and unwaveringly kind. Her relationships with Leo, Jasper, and Frank are beautifully nuanced, with each dynamic revealing her ability to bring out the best in those around her.
We Three Kings is an utterly charming, quintessentially British Christmas tale that brims with wit, warmth, and festive cheer. It strikes a perfect balance between humor and heart. And that epilogue? A delightful nod to the three wise men that was simply brilliant. This is exactly the kind of uplifting story that belongs on every Christmas reading list.

"We Three Kings" by Kristen Bailey is a rom-com. Maggie is the head of the IT department of a big finance company. Just before Christmas, she is told she has to pick one member of her 4 person department (counting herself) to let go at the start of the new year. The problem is that their department is like a family. They're very close. They adopt her over the holidays, and she spends several days with each of the men, getting to know them and their families quite well.

The narrator of this book, Harrie Dobby, has a very thick English accent that I had trouble understanding, especially when I tried to listen to it faster than average.

I felt a lot of this book was told and not shown. Also, something about the dialogue made it seem distant. I was bored quite often.

We Three Kings follows Maggie who works in IT, as she’s thrown together with three of her coworkers for the holidays. It’s classic Kristen Bailey: winsome, quirky, poignant, and hilariously entertaining, with a nice dash of romance. A perfect read for the holiday season, or really anytime throughout the year you need a pick-me-up.

Harrie Dobby did an excellent job narrating the audiobook.

Thank you Kristen Bailey, Storm Publishing, and NetGalley for providing this ARC for review consideration. All opinions expressed are my own.

We Three Kings is the quintessential Christmas romance novel. It's got heart, humor and plenty of holiday misadventures. We follow Maggie, the head of her company's small IT department. She ends spending the holidays with her three employees, developing a romance with one, and close friendships with other two. She goes to a wedding with one, a sprawling manor with another, and spends a cozy Christmas with the third's family. However, things go awry when, just before embarking on this adventure, she's told she must lay off one of them. This conflict feels real and serious, and the author writes each of the men Maggie works with in such an endearing way. They are all unique, and lovable and I really felt for Maggie. The romance was truly sweet, and I really appreciated how Maggie and her love interest considered the issues with their boss/employee dynamic. My only issue with the love story is the spice, which is closed door, but there is still plenty of mentions of an awkward phone sex situation. Still, that barely takes away from Maggie's fun holiday hijinks that involved rescuing baby foxes, fake dating and stealing a donkey. Plus, the audiobook experience was great. Definitely think this is a holiday romance that will bring cheer to many.

It was really ok. I was expected something a little more on the romcom side but this was just a quick, mindless read for the holidays. It was nice to have such a focus on friendship, especially between men and women which always seems to end up in a romance (it did here as well but with one dude out of three). The third act conflict was honestly avoidable had she talked to them in the first place and I thought it kinda ruined the book. If you planned on reading it, go ahead, but otherwise don't go out of your way to read that one.

I received a copy of this audiobook from netGalley for a honest review.

I laughed out loud at this audiobook! Some of the situations Maggie gets herself into are so funny. The tension of the firing or redundancy seemed unnecessary but the ending was handled well. All in all a very enjoyable book!

When Maggie doesn’t have a Christmas plans, her three friends, and employees, invite her along with them and their families for the week. But before she can join the first, the HR department notifies her that she must make one of them redundant in the new year. As she spends more time with each of them men, it makes it harder and harder to make the decision.

Cute and sweet. Maggie is likeable enough, without being too much. The men are all likeable in their own, individual way.

Laugh out loud moments and sweet moments of Maggie being invited into other families and their Christmas traditions.

Kristen Bailey’s We Three Kings is a delightful holiday story packed with humor, heart, and complex emotions. The protagonist, Maggie, faces an impossible dilemma: she must let go of one of her three employees, who also happen to be her closest friends. As if that’s not hard enough, she’s also spending the holidays with each of them, adding layers of guilt and emotional tension to her decision.

The strength of the book lies in its characters. Leo is effortlessly charming and deeply caring toward Maggie. Jasper balances his no-nonsense demeanor with a surprisingly compassionate side, while Frank’s bluntness and workaholic tendencies are softened by his hidden kind heart. Their distinct personalities and interactions make them unforgettable.

Bailey’s sharp wit keeps the story consistently funny, while the emotional depth ensures it’s more than just a lighthearted read. It’s a testament to friendship, loyalty, and navigating life’s toughest decisions. The audiobook narration brings the characters to life, making the experience even more enjoyable.

We Three Kings is an absolute gem, perfect for the holiday season or any time you’re craving a story that will make you laugh, cry, and cherish the people in your life.

What a treat! I thoroughly enjoyed Kristen Bailey's marvelous We Three Kings.

This one reminded me a bit of Bridget Jones, just because of the plucky heroine and the wacky friend group. Plus romping all over the British countryside lends to that atmosphere too.

The story totally resonated with me and the characters are completely engaging. What fun.

The audio version is beautifully performed by Harrie Dobby.

Thanks to Net Galley for the advanced Listener copy! This is a very fun Rom -Com for the holidays. Contemporary setting - fake dating-workplace romance. I did enjoy this novel and the narrator was top notch. I felt transported to current day London! This is a somewhat low stakes, very realistic romance full of friendly situations and fun, with of course one big problem for our main character Maggie to solve! This would make a fun gift for the romance lover on your list- even if that romance lover is you! Treat yourself!
The audio book was really fun, and the narration was so on point, there were no really sticky plot points and I feel like this would be a hit for any romance reader-especially those in the age range of 20-35.
