Sophie wakes up in a white room after a one-night stand. She doesn't remember anything. Her purse, jacket, phone are all missing. And the door is locked.
I loved the premise of this book, how quick it was to hook me, how fast it moved. I just felt the ending was a bit of a let down. I do love that the girls start a detective agency in the epilogue though!

This story kept you on your toes and at the edge of your seat. The story does bounce back and forth some but overall it was a great book. I had no idea what was happening and if it was real during parts of it.

This was a weird story! I thought I had figured out what was happening a couple of times, and each time, I was wrong. Kiersten Modglin kept me guessing to the end and I 100% thought that this book would end differently. I look forward to reading more of Kiersten's work in the future.

Gail Shalan did a good job narrating the story and keeping up a good pace.

Sophie wakes up in a room and doesn't know where she is or how she got there. While trying to figure out what has happened and how to escape, she's soon joined by someone from her past that she never thought she'd see again.

Not my favorite from Kiersten but I find all of her books to be such easy listens and this was no exception. This book gave me vibes similar to the movies, Saw and The Cabin in the Woods, without all the gore though. I was invested the entire time trying to figure out what was going on. This book had me up until we got to the conclusion and it completely fell flat for me. I think if the ending had been different, this would have been a much better rating. Still a decent thriller but you're either going to love the ending or hate it and unfortunately, I didn't care for it.

The audio performance was fantastic though. While the story may have fell flat at the end for me, I think Gail Shalan gave a stellar performance.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ALC.

This was a wild ride! I really enjoyed the story, the character and the setting! It was definitely dark so I would recommend checking trigger warnings but it was a quick read.

What would you do if you suddenly woke up trapped in a house? What would you think if one of your exes suddenly shows up as well, trapped. With you. Why? Who? The countdown on the black box in the house reads a series of red numbers...is it a count down? But to what?

I always enjoy KMod. Her books are usually easy read and not super long. The story is just dark enough without being considered horror.

The narrator of this audio was amazing. She was able to perform voices of many characters so that you could keep them separate. She even spoke the male voices voices convincingly. The pace was good for me at 1.2x and transitions between chapters was smooth. I would definitely choose audio for my preferred way of taking in this story!

Thank you for this book and exchange for my honest review. I thought the book was written very well and the author did a great job of building the characters. I was interested the entire time and I was shocked by the ending. It was wrapped up well.

3.5 not my favorite by her.

Fast paced
Psychological thriller
Locked in a room
Memory loss
⚠️ Check CW
Small romance plotline

This is marketed as an lgbtq+ psychological thriller.... And I believe that the lgbtq+ part was just tossed on to check a box. It's a very very small part and we have no insights really into that relationship.
The thriller aspects were fast paced and no one could be trusted vibes. She wakes up from being drugged locked in a room then finds an ex that is also locked up and drugged with no memory.

Kiersten Modglin has once again showcased her talent for creating thrilling novels that keep readers engaged from start to finish. As I began this book, I had no idea of the intricate twists and turns that awaited me. By the end, I was astonished by the depth of the plot and the unexpected revelations.

The central premise is brilliant. I kept hoping for a logical explanation for the unfolding events, but the truth was far more complex and compelling than I anticipated. Just when I thought I had figured everything out, Modglin surprised me with yet another twist.

Reading this book with an open mind is crucial, as it explores dark and disturbing themes that reflect uncomfortable aspects of society. Modglin approaches these issues thoughtfully, encouraging readers to confront these realities.

In summary, this is a captivating thriller filled with shocking twists. Kiersten Modglin has truly outdone herself. Bravo! I also want to thank NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review. It was an exhilarating read!

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an audio copy of this book for review purposes. This IS NOT a psychological thriller. This is a if-I-don’t-read-it-I-am-not-missing-anything book. Sophie Thatcher wakes up in a room with a countdown clock on the wall. She has no idea how she got there. She can’t remember if she was on a date. She is an almost 30 clueless person. The next morning, her former boyfriend is there. Then he is not. Sophie has a history of being unstable but this is ridiculous. I wanted to reach through my headphones and slap her. The narrator does the best she can but this is not worth all the hype. Usually I like Modglin but this is a hard pass for me. There are so many books and so little time. Skip it and thank me later. (Two stars is generous)

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC of this audiobook for my honest review

I liked the plot when we found out what was happening, it’s something that happens to people irl so it is a very scary idea. I just found getting up to solving the mystery I didn’t care much for the characters and it felt just a bit slow for a thriller. And I didn’t figure out the ending so that’s always good that a books not predictable !

I'll be publishing my review on Goodreads and StoryGraph 1st December and on Tik tok most likely will add to a monthly wrap up post with review the beginning of January

This is a quick thriller. It’s a lot different than Kiersten Modglin’s previous books (not that this is unusual, she likes to go in new directions constantly). I’ll admit this one wasn’t my favorite but I did enjoy it. The narrator did an ok job with the main character but her other voices weren’t as good. Sophie wakes up in a strange apartment and soon finds she is locked inside. As she tries to escape she realizes she can’t remember anything from what happened before. Her college sweetheart Ethan joins her and the two try to escape, but it seems impossible. There’s a menacing countdown clock in the living room and they can’t figure out what it is counting down to. Overall I gave this one 3.5 stars rounded up because it is a story that keeps your attention and goes super quickly.

"The Hidden" is a mystery thriller novel by prolific thriller author Kiersten Modglin. I recommend this book for thriller lovers!

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Gail Shalan. It runs a little over 5 hrs at 1.0 speed. The only issue was that the audio gave away part of the story one wouldn't figure out from reading it until much later.

This is an easy to binge read story. It's exciting and a bit scary.

Sophie wakes up in a strange house and can't remember anything from the night before. She finds she is trapped in this house, and there's a clock with a count-down to something. After a few days, she wakes up to find her ex-boyfriend from years ago is there. They are both trapped.

Kiersten Modglin’s The Hidden taps into a universal fear with chilling precision, drawing readers into a suspenseful psychological thriller that feels uncomfortably real. The story follows Sophie, who finds herself trapped in an unfamiliar house, unsure of how she got there, feeling unwell, and completely at the mercy of a masked figure who brings her food but offers no explanation. As the plot unravels, Sophie discovers her ex is also confined in the same space, creating a tense and claustrophobic environment where distrust and survival instincts clash.

Modglin skillfully alternates between past and present, providing context that deepens our understanding of Sophie’s life and her relationships before the ordeal. The narrative builds a gripping suspense as Sophie pieces together the mystery of her captivity, while the forced collaboration with her ex brings additional tension. Modglin’s pacing is sharp, with each revelation upping the stakes, creating a relentless atmosphere that keeps readers hooked.

For fans of psychological thrillers that explore dark, realistic fears, The Hidden delivers a well-paced, action-packed story that delves into what it means to face one’s worst nightmare—and find the strength to survive it.

This was a good book. I thought the plot was unique and kept me interested. Even though I figured out what was going on, it was still enjoyable and had some surprises in the end.

Imagine waking up in a locked house with no idea of where you are or how you got there. That’s exactly how Kiersten Modglin’s newest thriller, The Hidden, starts. For much of the story it almost felt like a very dark lost episode of the Twilight Zone. With each new twist (and there are plenty) you can’t help but question what is truly happening. And for about 90% of the story I was all in. Unfortunately it stumbles a bit at the end. Not enough to totally ruin the experience but I’ll be honest and say it knocked my rating down a star. As for the narration, Gail Shalan for the most part does a really good job. My only complaint is how she chose to voice one or two characters where their voices were supposed to be muffled a bit, but that made it a bit too difficult to understand what those characters were saying. This is a short piece that can easily be listened to in a single sitting and the compelling nature of the mysterious story will keep you listening. I’d like to thank Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to listen to an advanced copy of the audio version of Kiersten Modglin’s The Hidden.

I didn’t read the synopsis of this book before starting it. I’ll read anything this author writes. Wow was that a mind f*ck of a book. I couldn’t put it down. I had it done in one sitting.

3.5/5. My first Kiersten Modglin book. I enjoyed this book. It was a fast paced, short thriller. However, the plot twist wasn’t very original. I had seen basically the same plot twist in two books I’ve read this year.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for granting me an arc audiobook!

This is only the second book I’ve read by this author, and I’ve really enjoyed both of them! I definitely recommend this to any thriller lovers! This is a fast paced book that immediately has you questioning what on earth is going on.

Sophie wakes up in an unknown location, having no idea how she got there or any memory of the night before. At first she thinks she’s just gone home with a one night stand, but quickly discovers that there’s no way for her to leave the house. Panic sets in, and Sophie has no idea where she is, who is keeping her there, or their reason why. All she knows is there is a countdown clock in the house, but what is it counting down to?

This book switches between the present of Sophie trying to figure out how to escape this nightmare, and the recent past and final days leading up to her waking up here. When an unexpected person appears in the house with her, Sophie doesn’t know what to think or who to trust.

As mentioned before, I was granted an audiobook arc, which was how I read this book. I did enjoy the audiobook and thought the narrator did a great job! The only critique I have is that it was really hard to hear/understand the characters when they were masked. I know the intent was to have their voices muffled and disguised, but since I didn’t have the book to find out what they were actually saying, I definitely missed a couple of things because it just sounded too garbled.

Sophie just woke up. She is in a strange room. She thinks she has had a one night stand. She just can’t remember. Then she realizes…she can’t leave.

When I first started this book, I thought it was going to be a bit like a science fiction…Like an alternative universe. But this is where you trust your author. The intensity just kept building and I just kept reading. Of course it wasn’t an alternative universe, it was just a wicked psycho and you don’t want to miss it.

Kiersten Modglin has become one of my favorite thriller writers. Now, this is not my favorite but it is still full of intensity and creepiness.

The narrator, Gail Shalan, is perfect with this drama. And it is full of drama!

Need a twisted thriller…THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today.

I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review.
