This storyline was so interesting ! I was hooked from the start and I really enjoyed the plot twists. The narrator was great and I feel like her voice really fit for the main character.

The Hidden is a gripping, addictive, fast paced and action packed thriller that kept me hooked. Straight from the start you're put right into the suspense. It truly never lets up until the end. I felt the characters' fear, the setting was absolutely chilling and eerie. I binged thus in one sitting, it consumed me and I needed to know !

It was such a strong read and I couldn't put it down. Unfortunately, the ending just didn't work for me. It felt like all that build up and then just stopped and I was like that's it? i was expecting a killer twist with all the build up, i just felt there was a missed opportunity for something more shocking.

Overall, it's a good psychological thriller but the ending was a little disappointing for me. Although it did work for a lot of people, so if you love KMOD and these types of thrillers, give it a shot !

🎧 The narration by Gail Shalan was so good. The emotion, the fear in her voice was unreal. I felt every single thing. Her tone of voice was just perfect to relay all of it and make you feel for the characters.

✨️Thank you to @netgalley, @dreamscapemedia & Kiersten Modglin for my gifted ALC in exchange for an honest review.

Finished this one in one day.
What a psychological roller coaster!! I was confused at some parts but ultimately a really good book with a lot of surprises.
Great narration as well!

I just finished The Hidden by Kiersten Modglin and narrated by Gail Shalan. All I have to say is "what the heck did I just read?"

I finished this one quickly. It was a shorter book and was intriguing enough that I needed to find out what in the actual was actually happening. Gail Shalan does a nice job with her narration for Sophie, but I did not love her narration for the unmuffled male characters.

Well, this was a wild ride. Sophie goes out to either the bar or possibly on a date and wakes up after a black out sort of night. She cannot remember who she was with, or where she went, but she knows something happened. She is in some random bed.

After leaving the room, she sees she is in a very generic looking apartment. There are minimal pieces of furniture and nothing personal. She tries to leave and sees that the door lock has been turned around. She is locked in. After trying to open or break a window, she is visited by a man that is completely disguised.

This is one very crazy ride. I kept listening to figure out WHY. There is a lot of crazy that happens. And it is quite the ride.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the advance listen in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

At times this felt like it had a much more psychological aspect than KMod's usual stories which I liked; it felt like I was trying to unwind what COULD be happening as we go through the days with Sophie. This is dark and twisted when we figure out what is happening. The usual last minute super out-of-the-blue twist that I hate was not present so YAY!

The narrator was fantastic. Very emotional so the listener feels like they are right there with Sophie in her distress. The male voices were super creepy too.

Sophie wakes up in a room and has no idea how she got there. She soons realizes that she has been kidnapped, and things blow up when someone else joins her...
This mystery/thriller was fun. It was not my favorite by this author, but it was still entertaining. The ending was a bit rushed though.
I received an advance review copy of this book for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

3.5* rounded up. I really enjoy the to-the-point and easy-to-devour KM suspense thrillers and this one followed the same format. It wasn't the most memorable of her novels but I enjoyed the quick ride and commend her for continuing to bring fresh settings and plot lines. I never really connected to our FMC but felt I knew "enough" about her to follow along and root for her. If you are familiar with KM and her style of writing, I think you'll enjoy this one. If you're newer to her books, I'd recommend starting with something like "The Arrangement" series.

Thanks once again for the nightmares. I finished this last night and I am still so creeped out. Yikes. The narration was perfection. The story was one I could not put down. I may need to join a support group to discuss the ending.
Love it. Can't wait for the next one.

The Hidden (audio)
5⭐️

What an amazing thriller audiobook! It was quick, suspenseful, and heart pounding. Sophie finds herself trapped and attempts to piece things together. Is this really happening? Is her mind playing tricks on her? While many parts of this story is typical locked-room thriller, the excellent writing and narration pulled me in and held my attention from beginning to end. This could easily be finished in one sitting.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this audio ARC. This review will be shared on NetGalley, Goodreads, and Amazon.

Kiersten Modglin is well known for her twisted and shocking plots, I didn’t necessarily get that with this book. It was very entertaining to listen to and I was intrigued and wondering what was happening in the story. The plot is very interesting when you wake up not knowing where you are and locked up, set up for good reading!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my opinion.

Sophie wakes up in a room she doesn’t recognize after a night she doesn’t remember. The less you know about this book going in the better! Told in dual timelines, back and forth from being in the room to events leading up to the present, this is a dizzying and claustrophobic psychological thriller that is well worth the read.

The star of this story is the narrator, Gail Shalan, on this amazing audiobook. From the very beginning, she completely draws you in. Her different voices are distinct and realistic. It was really entertaining listening to her interpretation.

Thanks for the opportunity to listen! I’ll definitely be recommending!

4.5/5 Extremely fast paced. Kept you on the edge of your seat the entire time. Kiersten Modglin doesn’t let me down ever. Didn’t see the ending coming. The ending did feel a bit flat. But still enjoyed it.

WHAT. A. RIDE! I absolutely devoured this short but completely gripping story in one sitting. There was no way anything was going to tear me away from finding out the truth!

Sophie wakes up in an apartment, with what she thinks is a monumental hangover, until she realises it’s the after effects of having been drugged, she is totally alone and the door is locked. A clock on the wall is displaying a countdown… to what?

This was a totally immersive, fast paced and darkly disturbing listen that was brilliantly narrated by Gail Shalan.

The only negative for me was the ending; after the twisted tension, it fell a bit flat, but I still absolutely loved the journey to get there!

4 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Kiersten Modglin and Dreamscape Media for an ARC in return for an honest review.

I always enjoy KMod's books and get excited when I see she has a new one out. She has the knack of throwing in twists that leave my jaw hanging. Sadly this one fell a little flat for me. I was so keen to know where this story was going but was left disappointed at the big reveal.

The audiobook narration was excellent - cannot fault it.

I’ll never turn down a Kiersten book and this one definitely didn’t disappoint!

The story is as always fast paced and easy to digest, and i think it’s safe to say this plot is probably a lot of peoples worst nightmare.

When Sophie wakes up feeling horrendously hung over in an unfamiliar room she assumes she had too much to drink the previous night and ended up at her dates home, however when she looks around and realizes not only is nobody else there, but she is completely trapped with no way of escape.

Things go from bad to worse when a person from her past resurfaces in the same predicament, at this point she really doesn’t know what to believe. Has she been kidnapped? If so how does her kidnapper know about her connection to this other person? Is this some psychological experiment she didn’t sign up for? What is the end goal? The search for answers as well as an escape will keep you glued to the pages!

Thank you to Kiersten Modglin and Dreamscape media for the ALC!

When Sophie wakes up locked in an unfamiliar place with an ominous countdown clock, she's terrified. When she's joined by another kidnapping victim, she's momentarily comforted when she realizes she knows them....but things quickly escalate as they try desperately to escape.

I absolutely loved this one. It's creepy, it's unique, it moved quickly. The story was pretty extreme and wild but the characters felt real and their behaviors were reasonable which grounded the story well. I loved the dual timelines and the way the story unfolded, it was all just really intense and quick and I couldn't put it down. It was kind of a crazy ending that gave me a little bit of a black mirror feel but I think it pulled it off. Highly recommended!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (4.5/5)

Another KMod win! This latest novel by Kiersten feels like it could be on made the big screen for sure. I don’t want to spoil too much, as I believe experiencing the story with minimal prior knowledge is best, the confusion is part of the fun.

One notable shift in this book compared to her others is the ending, which feels surprisingly happier compared to her previous works.

The characters are wonderfully crafted, and as usual, I found myself second-guessing who to trust. Sophie, the main character, resonated with me deeply—her struggles and growth felt incredibly relatable.

Here are some quotes I loved that might convince you to pick this one up:

“We aren’t estranged necessarily, nothing has happened to make me cut them off. There came a point when, through therapy I realized our relationship was never going to be what I hoped for. My parents will never be the type of parents to think about me or check up on me. I will always have to call or text them first.”

“I have to choose my own happiness even when it stings.”

“I want a family that feels like they would choose me if they had a chance.”

I definitely recommend this one…just like every other book I’ve read by KM.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this eARC in audiobook format.

Kiersten Modglin’s latest thriller, The Hidden, is a masterclass in suspense and psychological intrigue. Narrated by the talented Gail Shalan, this audiobook takes listeners on a harrowing journey that is as gripping as it is unsettling.

The story centers around Sophie Thatcher, who wakes up in an unfamiliar room with no memory of how she got there. The room is stark, the fridge is empty, and the doors are locked from the outside. As Sophie grapples with her disorientation, she realizes she is not alone in her predicament. The narrative unfolds with a relentless pace, revealing a series of twists and turns that keep the listener on edge.

Gail Shalan’s narration is nothing short of captivating. Her ability to convey Sophie’s fear, confusion, and determination adds a layer of depth to the story that is truly immersive. Shalan’s voice modulation and pacing are impeccable, making the tension palpable and the characters’ emotions raw and real.

Modglin delves into themes of trust, memory, and survival. Sophie’s character is well-developed, and her journey from confusion to empowerment is both believable and compelling. The secondary characters, though seen through Sophie’s limited perspective, are intriguing and add to the story’s complexity.

Modglin’s writing is crisp and evocative. She masterfully builds suspense, dropping clues and red herrings that keep the listener guessing until the very end. The confined setting of the story enhances the sense of claustrophobia and urgency, making The Hidden a truly immersive experience.

The Hidden is a standout thriller that showcases Kiersten Modglin’s talent for crafting dark, twisty narratives. The audiobook format, brought to life by Gail Shalan’s exceptional narration, makes this a must-listen for fans of psychological thrillers. It’s a story that will linger in your mind long after the final chapter, leaving you questioning the nature of reality and the depths of human resilience.

For those who enjoy a blend of psychological depth and relentless suspense, The Hidden is an audiobook that should not be missed.
