This book had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I listened to the audiobook in one sitting because I needed to know what was going on.
We follow Sophie after she wakes up in an unfamiliar room after a date. However, her date is nowhere to be found. To make matters worse, the doors to the house are locked from the outside and there is an ominous countdown clock in the living room. With no memory of what lead to her being trapped and a clock counting down to an unknown deadline, Sophie starts planning her escape. However, she is soon joined by someone from her past leading her to wonder why they are both there.
The Hidden was extremely fast paced. I had absolutely no idea what was happening until the final reveal. This book was a quick and entertaining read. Also, the audiobook narrator did a great job! Definitely recommend if you want a suspenseful, exciting read.
I always jump at the opportunity to listen to a Kiersten Modglin book. This was fast paced and entertaining. I was a little disappointed in the ending, it seemed too abrupt and I was hoping there would be more explanation, or a good twist.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
Waking up after a date, Sophie finds herself alone and trapped in an unfamiliar place.
This book was so intense! Here's what I liked:
The non-stop action: this one was one big long heart attack. From the moment Sophie. wakes up, this is non-stop and super intense.
The concept: The overall concept was interesting. I found myself wanting to keep listening because I just had to know what the heck was going on.
The audio: Loved this audio. Gail Shalan was so good with this one. She kept me on the edge of my seat with her tone alone
Overall, this was a really interesting and heart-pounding thriller.
Thank you to the author and publisher for the gifted copy!
I love Kiersten Modglin books so I was really excited to get chosen for this ARC audiobook. I do love a mystery that starts out with someone waking up, locked up, without knowing what is happening. There's a countdown clock but nothing else really threatening. And then suddenly her ex joins her and they try to hatch a plan to escape before they are killed. There's a lot more going on than just the two of them being locked up together, though. I enjoyed this one.

Sophie Thatcher has turned to a Dating App after not being successful on her own in finding the right guy. Sure enough she meets the handsome, funny, smart DJ.
Sophie knows to be careful ~
• Never accepts a drink she hasn’t ordered herself.
• Don’t get drunk and blackout
• Always tells a friend where she is going.
So how is it that
Sophia wakes up wanting to throw up – she realizes that this has happened before. She is sure she went on a date but doesn’t remember who. Yes, she knows she drank too much.
She doesn’t recognize where she is or can remember how she got there.
She decides it is best to call an Uber and get out of there but finds she is locked in with no phone or credit cards!
Story is told present day as well as two years ago- moving forward to present day.
This is my Thirty-eighty Kiersten Modglin thriller.
So yes! I am a big K-Mod fan but profanity is something I don’t like. Since there was a lot, I found I was struggling to stay interested in these characters.
I love and trust K-Mod so knew I had to hang in there!
Story did have me curious. However when I finished I did not have the typical Wow K-Mod got me again reaction.
Want to thank NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this early audiobook.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for November 5, 2024.
Interesting idea but the novel is short so I don't think the story is as developed as it needs to be for this to earn more stars. Going along then the it ends just like that...the "game" isn't explained very well until the epilogue so the action that takes place in last chapter is underwhelming and rushed. Still a good story to read if you want a quick one.
Thank you, Netgalley, the author, and Dreamscape Media for the gifted audio book! ❤️ #gifted. My review is comprised of my honest thoughts.
Read this book if you like: Locked door, fast-paced reads, multiple timelines
Whatttt. I had no idea what was going to happen. The narration was well done. I wouldn't change a thing. I couldn't stop listening. It was suspenseful and fast-paced. I highly recommend it!
This book had me all over the place trying to figure out what was going on, who to trust and what to yell at the characters next when they did something I disagreed with. I read this as an audiobook and thought the narration was excellent.
Poor Sophie thought she had finally figured out how to stay safe as a single woman when somebody thinks up the unexpected and she finds herself captive. That took some twists and turns I wasn’t expecting. But then Ms Modglin is really good at twists. That’s what I like about her books. Just when I think I know what’s going on, nope.
I received this audiobook as a free ARC and am leaving a review voluntarily.
Thanks to #NetGalley and #DreamScapeMedia for the book #TheHidden by #KierstenModglin. Sophie wakes up a prisoner in a room she doesn’t know after a night she doesn’t remember. She soon realizes she is stuck on this place with her ex boyfriend, Elliot. Is he behind this and why? It’s been so long ago that they broke up. And what is with the timer on the wall? Such an amazing book, highly recommended.
I am a huge KMod fan. I’ve been looking forward to this release so receiving can ARC of the audiobook version of The Hidden made my day. The narrator did a great job. This is a fast paced, suspenseful thriller that will keep you guessing and hanging on every word. The only thing keeping it from getting five stars from me was the ending, but I’ll leave it there so as not to spoil anything. Thank you to NetGalley and to Dreamscape Media for this ARC of the audiobook version of The Hidden!
My thanks to Net Galley and Dreamscape Media for allowing me to listen to arc.
I love this author but this missed the mark for me.
I'll start with the positive. Premise was fantastic. A woman wakes up in a locked room with no recollection of she got there and no way our. Great narration. The narrator was fantastic and engaging. You felt the emotions of the character.
The negative. I got vibes of Cabin in the Woods and the 1987 movie The Running Man with Arnold. I had many unanswered questions like the why , how did they get to the house. And that ending. Strange. I can't recommend
I really wanted to love this story. The mystery had so much promise, and I was captivated by the intriguing twists and turns throughout. The narrator did a fantastic job, bringing the characters to life and enhancing the overall experience. Their voice and delivery kept me engaged and added an extra layer of depth to the story.
However, as the plot unfolded, I found that the big revelation at the end didn’t quite land for me. I had hoped for a moment that would leave me speechless, but instead, it fell a bit flat. While I appreciated the effort that went into crafting such an intricate narrative, I felt that the conclusion didn’t live up to the build-up.
Despite this, I recognize that many readers might find value in the complexity and ambition of the story. Overall, the audio experience was enjoyable, even if the ending wasn’t as impactful as I had hoped.
I enjoyed this fast paced quick read, although had to suspend disbelief for a lot of it.
Kiersten Modglin writes great character dynamics and I really bought into the relationship between Jas and Sophie, it really pulled on my heart strings.
The story seemed short and sweet but I enjoyed the tension and the ending.
The Hidden is a quick, twisty and chilling read.
True to Modglin’s style, it has a dark and confronting presence that is equal parts engrossing and thrilling. Whilst the premise seems totally out there, it seems creepily feasible, and I had to finish this book in one sitting. The characters were well developed for such a short read, and it was hard to know who or what to trust throughout.
The audiobook puts the reader into the thick of the experience. The villains voices felt a little cheesy at first, but the overall production was great and really added depth to the characters.
I’d highly recommend for anyone looking for a highly bingeable psychological thriller.
Thank you Dreamscape Media for a copy of this book. Opinions expressed are my own.
Oh did this audio make my little ears oh so happy! Not only was the story itself amazing and captivating, the narrator did a phenomenal job! I could not stop listening and I didn't want it to ever end!
Holy snap! Now there is a twist of events I did not see coming! Sat on the edge of my seat, the whole time for this one. As always, this author did not disappoint. If you like the thrill in a psychological thriller. This one will do it for you.
Sophie Thatcher wakes up in a room she doesn’t recognize, thinking she just had too much to drink and went home with a date. However, she quickly finds no one is there and her phone is nowhere to be found. The walls are bare, the fridge is empty, and even more disturbing, the door is locked from the outside. Sophie is trapped inside this unfamiliar place with a clock counting down to what exactly she doesn’t know. Soon she is joined by another person, someone she never thought she’d see again. Who brought Sophie to this place and why? Sophie is determined to find out before the countdown clock runs out and it’s too late.
Wow! Kiersten Modglin has done it again! She has delivered another twisty thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat desperate to find out what will happen next. The narration by Gail Shalan was perfect. I enjoyed her voice and the way she portrayed the characters throughout the story. I highly recommend this one to anyone that enjoys thrillers, especially KMod fans! I give it 4/5 stars.
Fast-paced, heart-pounding, relatable, and didn't disappoint KM, knocked it out of the park again.
Sophie wakes up in a strange room with no memories and no way out. We follow her story as she fights to remember and fights to survive.
I absolutely loved this book. It was dark and twisted and very relatable with all the dangers very real in the world right now, it's a reminder of what can happen in the blink of an eye and to always trust your instincts.
Thank you to both Km and the publisher for allowing me the pleasure of reviewing this ARC.
It's been a while since I've read anything by Kierstin Modglin, the Queen of Twists and Turns.
The Hidden begins with Sophie the MC wakes up hungover in a room she's not familiar with and no clue how she got there.
Multiple timeliness and single 1st person POV, present tense.
I wasn't necessarily a fan of the narraton in this audiobook, she sounded like she was out of breath throughout the entire book and her male voices all sounded like Thurston Howell from Gilligan's Island.
This wasn't her best work. I got pretty bored with the story. No twists and turns like her previous work.
The ending felt rushed. The Hidden definitely won't be memorable for me.
Thanks to the author,Dreamscape Media and Netgalley for this ARC.
This review will be shared on Goodreads & Netgalley.
The story was fast paced, intense and exciting! I felt the oppressive feeling of being kidnapped and trapped in a locked room and Stella’s fear as she slowly pieces together what happened. It was a well thought out and well written story with twists I loved. I couldn’t stop listening to the book and finished in a day.
I loved the narrator, Gail Shalan. She did an amazing job. All her characters were well done and her voice added to the anxiety and tension I was feeling from the story. I will check out more books she has narrated.
