THE HOUSEKEEPER by Sadie Ryan.
Release date set for the 5th of December.
When you're reading a book and just want to punch one of the characters in the throat..... well this is that book.
And Oh My Goodness the twists at the end.
Cracking job Sadie.
Loved this book and had me binge reading from start to finish.
This is my first book by this author and I'll deffo be reading more of her books.
I’d like to thank Joffe Books and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Housekeeper’ written by Sadie Ryan in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Lindy Villas, an American from Charlottesville married to Englishman Frank, is obsessed with Mia who she’s been watching from afar. Mia is everything Lindy isn’t, she’s beautiful has lots of friends, a perfect life, and a happy marriage to Ricky who obviously adores her. But after meeting in the hotel where Lindy works, she soon realises that Mia’s life is anything but happy and when Mia reaches out to her for help Lindy comes up with a plan to solve both Mia’s problems and her own. But the best laid plans don’t always work out as intended.
‘The Housekeeper’ is a twisty psychological thriller that I couldn’t stop reading even if I’d wanted to. At first the plot appears to be simple but it quickly becomes more complex the further I got into the story with the drama, suspense and tension rapidly increasing. The occurrences of domestic abuse were difficult to read at times but were an important part of the plot, with the characters cleverly thought out. This has been an exceptional thriller that’s had me gripped from the beginning and even with the shocking and unexpected conclusion it’s been a pleasure to read. This is the first novel I’ve read by this author and it definitely won’t be the last.
Lindy is a housekeeper. She's obsessed with Mia and starts stalking her. Mia has the perfect life, she's beautiful and has two grown-up daughters. But in reality - that inly people's opinion if her. Behind closed doors, her husband is a bully, he even mistreats the dogs. When Lindy discovers what is going on, she decides Mia needs her help.
The domestic abuse is hard to read. Mia did not know that Lindy had been stalking her, she thought they had met by chance. But Lindy knows everything about Mia's life. We discover the problems both women have. It's quite an uncomfortable book to read. There was a good unexpected twist.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #JoffeBooks and the author #SadieRyan for my ARC of #TheHousekeeper in exchange for an honest review.
The Housekeeper by Sadie Ryan is a zinger of a psychological thriller! It had me on tenterhooks and left a perpetual foul taste in my mouth. Attention grabbing for sure.
Lindy's new obsession isn't a thing but a person. Mia seems to have it all, a luxurious house, lovely children, attractive job and an attentive husband. Lindy's life as a housekeeper is less exciting and her home life a bit on the tedious side. She places herself in situations where she is sure to encounter Mia. But when Mia calls, Lindy's reaction is not all selfless. Lives spiral out of control and people show their true colours. Everyone hides secrets.
The taut suspense and thick tension are fantastic, as is the fascinating premise. What thriller reader doesn't crave something unique? However, the darkness was a little too dark for my liking. A constant state of unease can be a good thing but in this case it was an ick thing. Abuse is rampant in all forms which should carry a trigger warning. The characters are despicable, those you love to hate intensely. I did like the writing a lot and Sadie Ryan is skilled with weaving words.
My sincere thank you to Joffe Books and NetGalley for providing me with an early digital copy of this engrossing but troubling novel.
Wow! The twists and turns. This book had me wanting to abandon all my real life responsibilities just to keep reading.
The characters are complex. The storyline is quick paced. The cover got me hooked but the story made me so glad I go based off book covers. I am excited to recommend this book to my book club and excited to read more from Sadie Ryan.
This was a very dark disturbing read. I did really enjoyed it I loved how the creepy claustrophobic atmosphere which was throughout. I was hooked from the first chapter and could not put it down I loved the writing style and how well written and realistic the characters were. It was such a good thriller with plenty and of twists and turns which I definitely didn’t see coming. Overall a great thriller which I can’t wait to recommend. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this great book.
Dark with some really good twists. It's quite a quick and easy read. There were some bits that might be tough reading for anyone who's been in a dv situation but it's well written with really horrible characters and some really good wee twists and turns that I didn't see coming!
This is a hard book to review. On one hand is dark descriptions of abuse and stalking and the other a rather predictable story.
I do think that the stalking plot was written well, but the story didn’t pace itself well enough and the climax was a let down.
This book should have come with a large trigger warning at the beginning of the story. I'm a rather hardened reader of psychological thrillers but even I felt sometimes very uncomfortable with what happened to Mia during her marriage to handsome and popular Ricky. Not to speak of what he does to her beloved dogs - no, they survive - otherwise I would have not given this story three stars.
The plot is not very original with two women who have different reasons for wanting to kill their husband - albeit Lindy at least isn't a victim of abuse. And still it is Lindy who is the most desperate of the two and who's actions set everything in motion.
A quick read that lacks real depth and intrigue, but nevertheless not bad and it cannot be read without evoking some feelings.
Started slowly, but great ending
The beginning of the book pretty much just described the relationships/actions of two women. Mia looks from the outside to have the perfect lofe. Handsome, charming and attentive husband, two great daughters, and plenty of money.. Lindy, who works as a housekeeper, seems to be obsessed with Mia. The first 60% of the book is setting up the rest. We learn that Mia's husband is horribly abusive. If you have dealt with any psychological or physical abuse yourself, this book can be very triggering.
I enjoyed this book and loved the ending. But it took a long time to get going. I am glad I stuck with it, but considered skipping ahead several times.
This book sounded interesting so I was excited to get an ARC of it. I should have known from the start that this book wasn’t for me. I definitely think there should have been trigger warnings listed at the beginning of the book. If there was, I wouldn’t have read this book. It’s very dark and uncomfortable. Mia’s husband is abusive and an absolutely piece of trash. This book was hard to get through. I couldn’t wait to be done with it. Thank you NetGalley, Sadie and Joffe Books for the ARC.
I really enjoyed this story, it was creepy and enjoyable read , although similar to others I've read. Good read xx
This psychological thriller begins with Lindy who works as a housekeeper. Lindy becomes obsessed and begins stalking Mia; a beautiful married woman with two adult daughters. To the outside world Mia looks put together and perfect but just beneath the surface there is pain and secrets buried. Mia is married to a terrible man. Lindy has a proposal that might help her but Lindy has pain and secrets of her own that she has to live with. Both women become friendly with each other but darkness is always lurking and how far is too far?
This one had nice twists. I did not see that end coming. One part of this book was uncomfortable to read so a trigger warning might be necessary.
3.5 stars
Thank you to NetGalley and Joffe Books for the e-ARC. This is an honest review.
I got the email at 4 this morning I was approved. I immediately started reading it. I just finished it. What can I say? Well it's definitely a page gripper, some things were predictable most weren't. I really liked the book. If your look for a fast read with twists than this is it.
Thanks for the ARC, Netgalley and Sadie Ryan. This book was a thriller which is kind of new to me but boy oh boy did it have my head wide open. It reminded me of a few Lifetime movies I’ve seen over the years. Linda becomes obsessed with Mia, she has the life of a wife and mother. She soon finds out that the life she assumed Mia had wasn’t as it seemed. In this book and the way the story was going you couldn’t tell who to even believe it was twisted but the plot is there. It is a pretty decent read for my first thriller.
Thank you Joffe Books and Net Galley for an early copy of The Housekeeper. Very, very, very disturbing scene in the beginning of the book that basically ruined it for me. I couldn’t get the image out of my head. Truly not believable with the way Ricky was, abuse doesn’t happen as ridiculous as that. The way he treated the dogs was horrendous, that could be believable. The ending was NOT what I expected at all, Mia really switched into a loony. I was disgusted, I laughed, I cried all in this book, a lot of different emotions.
This was a great story full of twists until the end and not what you would expect. The characters were both highly flawed individuals who were both desperate to change their situations at home but clearly went about it differently. I thoroughly enjoyed all the ways the author kept you guessing until the very end.
This was a book that entertained me over a dull weekend.
Lindy has a bit of dull life and Mia is quite the opposite. Mia has a life that's perfect and Lindy wants some of the same. She starts to stalk Mia.
Mia's life isn't that wonderful she has na abusive husband ..so why does she stay..
I loved this book. it was gripping tense and a little creepy..
I thought this was an okay read. I wished that I had liked the characters more ,but I didn't really take to them. If I had liked them more I would have been more invested in their story. It was alright but lacked something for me.
This had that psychological thriller element that I was looking for and enjoyed how good the twists were in this. The characters had that element that I wanted and were realistic written. Sadie Ryan has a great way of writing this and left me wanting more. I thought it was a great idea to use a housekeeper and it had me on the edge of my seat.
