I loved reading Allan's book and found it informative and engaging. I genuinely had trouble putting it down. It references the emergence of new technology (like photography) that was eagerly utilised to capture images of places others would never see. I found this aspect very informative. I was initially surprised by the amount of time taken up by Egypt, but that makes sense in the context of the biblical narrative and the history these explorers were trying to uncover.

As a concise book about the Victorians, their searches and finds in their time, and their advent of travel, The Victorians and the Holy Land is a book worth reading! In the book, we learn the history of many things, including the beginning of biblical archaeology, how traveling to the Holy Land started and changed, as well as how the Victorians' original interest in the Holy Land began. Though concise, there is much detail that explores facets of what the Vice started and the legacy they left. Anyone who is interested in history (not necessary just that of the Victorian Era), archaeology, and even the development of traveling will enjoy this book!

I was so invested in what was going on in this nonfiction book, the historical element worked well overall. I thought the time-period was fascinating and glad I got to go on this journey with them. Allan Chapman wrote this well and had that researched element going through this.
